MMA fighters, Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Weili Zhang have both been handed two-month medical suspension after their brutal bout left them disfigured. During the fight in Las Vegas last Saturday, the pair inflicted bloody injuries on themselves and were taken to hospital after their five-round contest saw strawweight champion Zhang retain her belt following a split decision. According to MMA Mania, Nevada State Athletic Commission has now issued a two-month medical suspension to the athletes. The fighters who both will be out of the Octagon until May 5, were also ordered not to take part in contact sparring until April 22. A randy Economics teacher at Alarelu Comprehensive High School, Igbara Odo-Ekiti in Ekiti South Local Government Area of Ekiti state, has been sacked by the State's government for impregnating a 17-year-old student of the school. The Grade level 10 officer identified as Mr. Owoosi Gbenga, reportedly impregnated the SS3 student who was preparing for Senior Secondary Certificate Examination. Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission Chairman, Hon. Babatunde Abegunde confirmed the teacher's sack and also revealed that the decision was taken after a six-member disciplinary committee carried out a thorough investigation. The Head of Human Resources for Health, Federal Ministry of Health, Shakuri Kadiri has disclosed that Nigeria currently has 1 doctor to 2,753 patients, an abnormality from the World Health Organization's standard of one doctor to 600 patients. Kadiri disclosed this at the launch of the Nigeria Health Work Force Country Profile 2018 and handover of the Nigeria Health Workforce Registry by the ministry in collaboration with the World Health Organisation and other partners. He stated that the country recorded a progressive increase in migration of medical doctors from 2005 to 2018, adding that 59 per cent of the registered medical practitioners were in good standing with 35 per cent being females. He also revealed that the number of medical doctors registered with the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria is 74,543, suggesting there are 36.3 medical doctors per 100,000 population. It was further gathered that the last health workforce profile of the country was done in 2012. The WHO Nigeria Officer in Charge, Clement Peter who revealed that the current National Health Workforce Registry had health workforce information for 10 states, called on the federal government to support the scaling up of the registry to cover the remaining states as well as the federal departments, agencies, parastatals and the private sector. He added that Nigeria could only improve its health indices by ensuring that the health workforce is accessible and equitably distributed. The Minister of Heath, Osagie Ehanire on his own part said they've been working to obtain accurate data on the existing health workforce in the country, to facilitate human resource for health planning and thereby deliver efficient, effective and high quality health services to citizens. Babajide Akeredolu, son of Ondo state governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu says he is proud that his father could consider him for the role of his chief of staff. The Senior Akeredolu had during his 3rd-anniversary dinner in Akure said his son, Babajide worked hard during his campaign and there is nothing anyone can do if he decides to appoint him as his chief of staff. “When somebody says Baba (Babajide) is this, I just laugh at them. If I wanted to make Baba my chief of staff, he can be; did you do more than him in the campaign? Ask yourself, how many of you did more than Baba in the campaign? A Nigerian Professor, Maduike Ezeibe has announced that he has discovered a possible cure for the dreaded coronavirus and lassa fever. Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a 13-year-old SS1 student who allegedly committed suicide after being accused of sexual assault in school. Juwon, a student of Foldemi Private School located at Ola Farm area of Abaranje, Ikotun, Lagos, was suspended from school after he was accused of touching the butt of a female classmate, named Chinaza. The incident was reported to the school management and they questioned him. However, he denied the accusation. The school found him culpable, according to PM Express, and he was suspended for two weeks to serve as a deterrent to other students. The publication adds that when the boy got home his parents were not home, so he ingested the Sniper insecticide. His parents returned home to find him unconscious with a bottle of Sniper insecticide beside him. He was taken to a hospital where doctors certified him dead. His corpse was taken to the cemetery and buried immediately. Juwon's death sparked a protest in the area as his classmates and other youths in the area stormed Chinaza's home to attack her since they blamed his death on her. However, sensing danger, Chinaza's parents snuck her out of the compound. She's remained in hiding since then. The publication adds that the school has remained locked to avoid reprisal attacks. A convicted murderer was put to death in Tennessee's electric chair Thursday, becoming the fifth prisoner over 16 months to choose electrocution over the state's preferred method of lethal injection. Sutton was served his last meal about three hours before his execution on Thursday evening. He ordered fried pork chops, mashed potatoes with gravy and peach pie with vanilla ice cream, the Tennessee Department of Correction said. Death row inmates typically have a $20 limit for their last meal. Nicholas Sutton, 58, was pronounced dead at 7:26 p.m. at the Riverbend Maximum Security Institution in Nashville, the Tennessee Department of Correction said. Sutton who got married to his wife Reba in 1994 while in prison, gave a statement after he was strapped into the chair, thanking his wife, family, and friends for supporting him and saying Jesus Christ "fixed me." "I'm just grateful to be a servant of God, and I'm looking forward to being in his presence," Sutton said as witnesses looked on. ''I have had the privilege of being married to the finest woman, who is a great servant to God,' he continued. 'Without her, I would not have made the progress that I have made. I hope I do a much better job in the next life than I did in this one. Sutton was sentenced to death in 1986 for killing fellow inmate Carl Estep in a conflict over a drug deal while both were incarcerated in an East Tennessee prison, where he had been serving time for his grandmother Dorothy Sutton, his high school friends John Large and Charles Almon - in 1979, when he was 18 years old. As prison guards were on a shift change on January 15, Sutton and Thomas Street entered Estep's cell and stabbed him 38 times in the chest and neck with two homemade knives, prosecutors said. One of the inmates also said Estep was a marijuana dealer at the facility who had sold the men 'bad merchandise' and refused to refund their money. He testified that after the men took Estep´s watch, Estep threatened to kill Sutton. In 1986, a Morgan County Criminal Court jury convicted Sutton of first-degree murder and sentenced him to death. Street was convicted and sentenced to life in prison. A third man who was accused of taking part in the attack was acquitted. Estep's oldest daughter has said Sutton did her family a favor when he killed her father, who she describes as an 'evil man'. Rosemary Hall said that her father, who was jailed for raping her stepsister when he died, set their house on fire and deliberately caused a traffic accident that killed her baby sister. She described his death as a blessing. 'To say that was the best day of my life is an understatement,' she said in a statement that was included in Sutton´s clemency petition. 'I felt as though a 100-pound weight had been lifted off my shoulders and I thought to myself, 'There is a God!'' Sutton's supporters, including several family members of his victims and prison workers, had asked Governor Bill Lee to commute his sentence, saying Sutton had rehabilitated himself in prison and was not the same man who first entered prison 40 years ago. But Lee declined their plea and said he would not intervene in the execution. Anti-death penalty activist Dan Mann said he and another activist had intercepted the governor on the way to work Tuesday and prayed with him. He added that the church told the deceased's family that they will only bury him on the condition that they pay the tithe he didn't pay in the last three years of his life.
