Education / Parents Reject N175,000 Monthly Fee For Online Learning In Atlantic Hall School by liltee123(m): 12:12pm On May 16, 2020
Parents of the Atlantic Hall School has rejected the N175,000 monthly fee for Online Learning imposed by School, after paying N4.5million annual school fees. See details below.

The Authorities of the Atlantic Hall School, located in Epe area of Lagos State have come under serious criticism from parents who describe the virtual lesson fees imposed on them during the school closure as exploitative, wicked and unfair.

The School had imposed an initial monthly fee of N195,000 per student for online lessons pending when schools reopen after the relaxation of the COVID-19 restrictions. This led to an immediate protest by parents and resulted in a N20,000 reduction to N175,000.

Parents were still not impressed with the new fee, and hit hard at the school board of trustee during an emergency PTA meeting they had via zoom. The parents accused the board as ‘too profit-oriented’ with no regard for the setback triggered by the coronavirus pandemic on the nation and world as a whole.

Travel / Illegal Immigrants Affected By Coronavirus Will Be Given $500 Each In California by liltee123(m): 12:25am On Apr 16, 2020
California governor, Gov. Gavin Newsom has announced that illegal Immigrants affected by Coronavirus will get $500 each.

The governor made the major announcement on Wednesday, saying State taxpayers will shell out $75 million from their Disaster Relief Fund, and another $50 billion will come from a network of philanthropic foundations to help illegal immigrants struggling to pay bills.

“We feel a deep sense of gratitude for people that are in fear of deportations that are still addressing essential needs of tens of millions of Californians,” said Newsom, who noted 10% of the state’s workforce are immigrants living in the country illegally paid more than $2.5 billion in state and local taxes last year.

“Every Californian, including our undocumented neighbors and friends, should know that California is here to support them during this crisis,” the Democratic governor added. “We are all in this together.”

California has an estimated 2 million immigrants living in the country illegally but they are not eligible for the $2.2 trillion stimulus package approved by Congress last month, which gives cash payments of $1,200 to Americans.

Newsom said the money will not be distributed based on income. “Their personal information will not be required to get those support,” he said.

Illegal immigrants will be able to apply for the money beginning in May.

How about disavowing them in GSC? As long as your site is concerned, the links are still pointing to your website. Your options would be to:

1. Disavow via GSC.
2. Ping your site to inform crawler bots of a major change.
3. Wait a while before your site is recrawled and the new data updated.

Crime / Residents Eat Baboon In South Africa by liltee123(m): 3:30pm On Apr 14, 2020
Residents of Jeppes Reef near the Matsamo border with Swaziland last Sunday gathered to kill and eat a baboon which was found wandering on the streets during lockdown.

When pictures of the slaughter emerged on social media, it prompted Mpumalanga MEC for community safety, security & liaison Gabisile Shabalala to warn the community that they were breaking the lockdown regulations as well as the law.

“This now wrong; as the department we condemn the behaviour of some communities [together] with the one in Nkomazi [municipality] where people decided to kill an animal in large numbers," Shabalala said.

"We are warning against such gatherings because that is against the lockdown regulations [about] where people should now gather, as we are trying to curb the spread of the coronavirus pandemic. Again, it’s criminal to even kill an animal just because they have seen it in the community. It is deeply regrettable that our people would still gather in such a manner. We are appealing [to them] to work with us and stay at home during this difficult phase. To save the public, the police should act against such behaviour,” Shabalala added.

One community member who didn’t want to be named told Sowetan that they initially thought the baboon was from a certain house.

“People came in large numbers and we were told that it [the baboon] was from a person whom was suspected to be casting spells using it. But some people decided to burn and eat it because they said that was meat,” said the community member.

Business / Full List Of 25 'poor Countries' Granted Debt Relief By The IMF by liltee123(m): 1:47pm On Apr 14, 2020
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has announced it has granted debt relief to over 25 poor member countries.

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) is an organization of 189 countries, that helps foster global monetary cooperation, secure financial stability, facilitate international trade, promote high employment and reduce poverty around the world.

Created in 1945, the IMF is governed by and accountable to the 189 countries that make up its near-global membership and helps countries during times of financial crisis.

Describing the Covid-19 pandemic as an unexpected shock to the financial situations of so many countries, the Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Ms. Kristalina Georgieva, in a statement in Washington last night, announced debt service relief for 25 poor countries saying the debt relief was to enable the affected countries to better tackle the COVID-19 pandemic.

The countries that were relieved of the debt include Afghanistan, Benin, Burkina Faso, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, D.R., The Gambia, Guinea, Guinea-Bissau, Haiti, Liberia, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mozambique, Nepal, Niger, Rwanda, São Tomé and Príncipe, Sierra Leone, Solomon Islands, Tajikistan, Togo and Yemen.

She said, ” Today, I am pleased to say that our Executive Board approved immediate debt service relief to 25 of the IMF’s member countries under the IMF’s revamped Catastrophe Containment and Relief Trust (CCRT) as part of the Fund’s response to help address the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“This provides grants to our poorest and most vulnerable members to cover their IMF debt obligations for an initial phase over the next six months and will help them channel more of their scarce financial resources towards vital emergency medical and other relief efforts.

“The CCRT can currently provide about US$500 million in grant-based debt service relief, including the recent US$185 million pledge by the UK and US$100 million provided by Japan as immediately available resources. Others, including China and the Netherlands, are also stepping forward with important contributions. I urge other donors to help us replenish the Trust’s resources and boost further our ability to provide additional debt service relief for a full two years to our poorest member countries.”

Romance / Things Emotionally Intelligent People Don’t Do by liltee123(m): 9:51am On Apr 08, 2020
Most people think about emotional intelligence as a skill, something you can build and train with practice. Well I don't know if that is true, but let's blindly agree with them by saying that one of the most important skills for being successful in life at work and at home, is not just being intelligent (meaning having a high IQ) but also being emotionally intelligent (EQ), which is the ability to understand, manage, and monitor your emotions constructively. We have all met people that seem to have the innate ability to stay calm and to be emotionally mature.

Emotional intelligent people don't have temper tantrums

Temper tantrums are unpleasant and disruptive behaviors or emotional outbursts. They often occur in response to unmet needs or desires. Emotional intelligent people don't have temper tantrums because they have control over their emotions, and they know that when they have a temper tantrum, the people around them will shut down. They have learned it is more effective to stay calm and logical in order to communicate.

They don't behave insensitive

Emotionally intelligent people are keenly aware of other people’s emotions and feelings. Because of this awareness, they make sure to be sensitive to how other people are feeling. They show true concern about other human beings and how their approach to interactions affects others. This can also be described as empathy, which is putting yourself in someone else’s shoes.

They don't contemplate or ruminate on past mistakes

Ruminating on past mistakes is a misguided attempt at control.

Just like we humans crave order and certainty, we also crave control. We’re obsessed with the idea that, with enough effort and perseverance, we can do or achieve anything.

Of course, most people who get stuck ruminating endlessly on past mistakes and failures don’t actually believe that they can change the past. Instead, ruminating about the past gives the them the illusion of control, however fleeting and temporary.

When you’ve done something bad or made a mistake in the past, you naturally feel guilt and regret. Chronic ruminators develop the unconscious habit of constantly replaying past mistakes because it briefly gives them a feeling of control. And feeling in control helps distract from feeling helpless — which is what we really are when it comes to past mistakes.

To think too much is a disease.

― Fyodor Dostoyevsky

In reality, no amount of rumination or analysis of your past mistakes will change what happened. Which means helplessness and powerlessness are inevitable.

This is a hard fact of life that emotionally intelligent people not only understand, but accept.

 They maintain unrealistic expectations

Unrealistic expectations are a misguided attempt to control other people. Just like ruminating is an attempt to control the past and how we feel about it, maintaining unrealistic expectations is usually a subtle attempt to control other people.

Of course, most people with unrealistic expectations don’t see it that way. You probably see your expectations of other people as a good thing: Having high expectations for people encourages them to grow and mature and become their best self!

Maybe, but this is still a subtle form of control. You have an idea for what another person in your life should be or do or accomplish and your expectation is your way of trying to make it happen.

But what does it mean, exactly, to maintain an unrealistic expectation?

Simply put, it means you spend time crafting stories in your head about what other people should do. And when they inevitably fail to live up to those standards, you reflexively compare reality to those expectations and feel frustrated and disappointed.

And how do you respond to this frustration and disappointment? By creating even stronger and more elaborate expectations, because it makes you feel good and in control!

Look, of course you care about the people in your life and want the best for them. And it pains you to see them hurting or struggling or suffering. So, when you create a story in your mind about them succeeding and doing better (i.e. an expectation) you feel a little better.

The problem is, you can’t actually control other people, even for the better. Not nearly as much as you would like, anyway. Which means you create a constant vicious cycle of sky-high hopes and grave disappointments and frustrations.

What’s more, eventually your attempts at control begin to be felt by the people in your life and they become resentful. And if it goes on long enough, they may even act contrary to your expectations simply out of spite!

The solution is to let go of your expectations. Stop creating stories about what you want for other people. And instead, just be present for the person they are:

Validate their current struggles instead of daydreaming about their future successes.
Set real boundaries on their behavior instead of wishing for perfection.
Meet them where they are instead of where you want them to be.
