Less than a week after denying nursing a Presidential ambition, branded noodles bearing the name and portrait of former Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, have made their way to the Nigerian market. . Kingibe, in an advertorial in some major national dailies last Thursday, dismissed media reports linking him with the 2019 Presidential election. . 2019: Kingibe’s noodles flood market In the said advertorial, Kingibe had said he “Neither produced nor authorised” anybody to produce campaign posters on his behalf. A source close to Kingibe said the former SGF believes he’s been singled out for vilification by his political detractors. . Some Directors of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA) had written to the House of Representatives Committee on Security and National Intelligence, alleging that Kingibe who headed the Federal Government panel that reviewed the “Operational, technical and administrative” structure of NIA, following the discovery of $43 million of the agency at a Lagos apartment, recommended the appointment of Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, as Director General of the agency. . There is a chance that Abubakar’s appointment will culminate in the retirement of some of the directors if the agency. . This much was stated in the advertorial by the ex-SGF when he noted that “The phantom allegations and pasting of posters are striking to be coincidental. This is a miscalculated attempt to malign and defame me.” . The source who sought an audience with the President early last week following the appearance of the posters , added that Kingibe elected to take paid advert in some national dailies as a means of pledging his loyalty to the Commander-in-Chief. . https://www.vanguardngr.com/2018/02/2019-babagana-kingibes-noodles-flood-market/ |
A professor of History at the University of Texas, Toyin Falola, has warned that if national leader of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bolaji Ahmed Tinubu dumps President Muhammadu Buhari, he (Buhari) runs the risk of losing popularity before the 2019 elections. . Fielding questions from Punch, Falola noted that Tinubu is the only hope of Buhari’s election come 2019, adding that the former Lagos State governor may also decide to withdraw support for the President. According to him, the South East, South South, Middle Belt and Kanuri have already dumped Buhari. . He stated, “We don ’t know what Bola Tinubu (APC national leader) will do because if he says that he will not support Buhari, the South-West is gone. . “Already the South – South, South – East, Middle Belt and the Kanuri are gone. The Boko Haram insurgency is a (source of) deep anger of the Kanuri against the Fulani that has merged into the pre -existing Boko Haram issue. . “The conflict between the Kanuri and the Fulani dates back to the time that the caliphate was established. “Uthman Dan Fodio established the caliphate. When he wanted to conquer the Kanuri, they refused, which led to the collapse of the dynasty and the emergence of the current dynasty. An anti- Fulani movement is already building in the North- East . . “Once Tinubu leaves him, that is the end of his regime. That is one scenario. . “The second scenario is that he (Buhari) controls the whole security apparatus and the Independent National Electoral Commission. He will drop electronic voting and win the election. . “You don’t have to ask me why. He only has to fill the ballot boxes and he is back in Aso Rock . So , he also has his own nuclear option which is ‘if you don’t want me , I can rig the election’. . “He has the power to do that. In the next 12 months, there will be no governance in Nigeria. What we are going to have is politicking ; nobody will be talking about development anymore. They will talk about it as empty promises , which is what they are clever at doing.” http://dailypost.ng/2018/02/04/2019-falola-reveals-will |

The Depot and Petroleum Products Marketers Association (DAPPMA) has claimed that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) lied to Nigerians on the ongoing nationwide shortage of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) or petrol. . DAPPMA made the claim in a statement issued on Monday. Signed by its Executive Secretary, Mr. Olufemi Adewole, the statement rejected accusations of product hoarding leveled against DAPPMA members. While DAPPMA explained that it can neither confirm nor dispute NNPC's claim of having sufficient product stock, the association said it can confirm that the products are not in the tanks of its members. . According to DAPPMA, there are always hitches in product distribution any time the NNPC assumes the role of sole importer of products. DAPPMA added that 80 percent of the country's functional product receptive facilities are owned by its members and such do not currently hold products. . "The NNPC imports and distributes products through DAPPMA, Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN) and Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria (IPMAN). . Our members pay NNPC/PPMC (Petroleum Products Marketing Corporation) in advance for petroleum products and fully paid up PMS orders that have neither been programmed nor loaded are in excess of 500,000 metric tonnes (about 800,000 liters) as at today and enough to meet the nation's needs at a daily estimated consumption of 35,000 liters. . Our members' depots are presently empty. However, if the NNPC /PPMC provides us with PMS, we are ready to do 24 hours loading/truck out to alleviate the suffering of Nigerians until the fuel queues are eliminated," said DAPPMA. The association maintained that the NNPC has been the sole importer of the product since October for various reasons. . Among these, DAPPMA said, is the fact that the country currently runs a fixed price regime without any recourse to subsidy claims. It noted, however, that the international price of crude oil is beyond its control. DAPPMA stated that the current price of PMS is about N170 per liter, with the NNPC, importer of last resort, absorbing the attendant subsidy on behalf of the Federal Government. . "We understand that NNPC meets this demand largely through its DSDP platform framework. However, due to price challenges on the DSDP platform, some participants in the scheme failed to meet their supply quota of refined petroleum products, especially PMS, to NNPC. This is the main reason for this scarcity," explained DAPPMA. . It added that the current exchange rate of naira to the dollar is N306 for PMS importation, stating that banks also charge interest at a rate above 25 percent. http://saharareporters.com/2017/12/26/fuel-scarcity-depot-and-marketers-association-exposes-nnpcs-lies |
Gunmen, armed to the teeth and dressed in military fatigue on Sunday raided the Kaduna home of the former Chairman the Presidential Task Team on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina. . Residents of Kano Street, Kawo New Extension, Kaduna where the house is located, reported that the gunmen càme in a Hilux van and were later joined by plain clothed men in another Hilux Van. . The Spokesman of the Kaduna State Police Command, ASP Aliyu Mukhtar confirmed the incident, saying that the Divisional Police Office in Kawo informed the command of the incidence. . He explained: “We got a report from DPO Kawo regarding the raid on Maina’s house. But we are yet to confirm whether they are really officials of EFCC. Investigation is on going,” he told our correspondent on phone on Monday. . An eyewitness told journalist that the gunmen began surveillance of the area at 5PM till at 8PM when another car (Peugeot 406 brand) with plain clothes security personnel, forced the gate open and drove into the compound. It was gathered that a security guard oñ the premises was handcuffed and asked to take them round the 4-bed room flat. . The 22-year old guard, Ahmadu told journalists that the gun men kept asking him whether the house belong to Maina or whether he (Maina) was staying there. . Ahmadu said the gunmen told him that they were from the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) to carry out a search on the house for alleged hidden arms and ammunitions as well as cash (money). . He said, “They came in military uniforms and Hilux van with another small car after they had forced the gate open around 8.PM. . “They handcuffed me and started forcing doors to the bedrooms open, they turned everything upside down. . “They were communicating with somebody somewhere in Hausa, directing them to one room or the other where to find cash. . “They must have been disappointed because at the end, they found nothing, neither cash nor arms as they claimed. . “They now drove away with me and dumped me in the bush along Mando road, close to Kaduna International Airport. . “They said I should go to any police station so that the police can unlock the handcuff on my hand. . “I hide my cuffed hand in my shirt, so that nobody could suspect me and that was how I got commercial motorbike that took me to Kawo police station where the handcuff was unlocked.” . https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/12/police-confirm-raid-mainas-house-handcuff-security-guard-gunmen/ |

Former Nigerian international, Garba Lawal has explained Victor Moses’ exclusion from the final three-man shortlist for the African Player of the Year 2017. The former left winger said Moses’ persisting injury problem was responsible. Moses was left out of the race for the individual accolade at the expense of Egypt’s Mohammed Salah, Senegal’s Sadio Mane and Gabon’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang. The decision by CAF has met a lot of questions as the 27-year-old helped Chelsea to the English Premier League title in a resurgent 2016-17 season. . Moses also played a key role as Nigeria booked a place in Russia 2018 World Cup ticket. Lawal told Goal, “Salah was a fantastic player, scoring 14 goals already for Liverpool. He has won the BBC African player of the Year and playing week in, week out. “Mane is doing okay too, likewise Aubameyang. All these three are doing fantastic football at the moment too because those contending with him are in form and made it really tough for him. . “Moses was in great form last season but the injury gave him no chance. I believe this was his time seeing his great form last season but when I saw Salah was also coming up, I knew it will be really difficult. . “As a footballer, when you have an injury, in football it is going to be difficult to recover quickly and compete strongly. I believe if four players were to be shortlisted, Moses should have been part of them. It is not easy playing consistently for a top team and luck been injury free. . “In the German Bundesliga too, Aubameyang is scoring a lot of goals for Borussia Dortmund and currently still in a very good form. . “It has been a long time that a Nigerian last won it and missing out again is very disturbing! This time, we thought the form of Victor Moses for Chelsea from last season would see him win it so easily,” he continued. . “But with what we are seeing now from Sarah and Mane, it is really very tight. If you will put the achievement and form of those players against each other, you will see the difference. . “But I believe if Moses continues to play week-in, week out at Chelsea, he will be in strong contention for the next award. He should just focus on his game and keep playing regularly.” . http://dailypost.ng/2017/12/20/african-player-year-2017-moses-excluded/ |
The Advocacy for Integrity and Economic Development (AIED) has described the documentary made by the Presidency to show the ‘human side’ of Buhari as an inhuman gesture by the Buhari-led administration. . The organization described the documentary as a “spat on the tears of Nigerians” at a time when Nigerians are struggling due to scarcity of fuel, high unemployment rate . . In a statement issued on Tuesday by its Deputy Director, Adekoya Boladale, AIED said the timing of the documentary is wrong and distasteful, adding that no documentary will bestow the qualities president buhari does not possess. . “The documentary is a spat on the tears of Nigerians who for the last few days have been spending sleepless nights at fuel stations and paying through their nose for black matter rate fuel at 500 naira per litre. Coming at a time when the population of unemployed Nigerians is at an all time high and the means of livelihood is next to impossible, this documentary is distasteful”, it read. . “To add salt to an open wound, the Presidency assembled redundant men of questionable characters most who are known signature of corruption to vouch for the President on a trait they lack. Agents and cronies of the President who are benefitting from the systemic corruption and esprit de corps graft activities that have overclouded the presidency. . “It is disgusting that a Presidential tenure characterized by state-backed extra judicial killings, blatant disregard for the rule of law, economic decadence and hyper profligacy can engage in image marketing rather than fixing the hell hole it has dragged Nigeria into. . In a sane society, the crops of individuals that presently make up the Presidency should have been arrested, tried and jailed for taking the country to a state of chaos. . “No amount of documentaries will bestow upon President Buhari the character he doesn’t posses. There is no human side to anyone who care less about the pains and agonies of his people, there is no human side to anyone who does not posses any iota of empathy and certainly, no individual can claim a human side if such individual blatantly defend the murder of thousands of citizens because they had the ‘audacity to tap a General’s chest’. . “The true human side of any individual doesn’t require so much shoving in the throat for it to be known. It is self revealing. Evident in deeds, character and posture. All which Buhari does not posses”. . Meanwhile, Nigerian presidency has lambasted Nigerians for attacking it over the film. In a statement on Sunday, president spokesman, Femi Adesina, said those condemning the idea have no pastime and will complain about God if they “mistakenly” make heaven. http://dailypost.ng/2017/12/24/buhari-no-human-side-aied-rubbishes-documentary-president/ |
The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ekiti state says it will not participate in Saturday local government election. . In a statement on Thursday, Taiwo Olatunbosun, the APC spokesman in the state, said the party is boycotting the election because it has been “compromised”. “The compromised state Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) is composed of members who are card-carrying members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with a mandate to endorse and implement the decisions and directives of Governor Ayodele Fayose and his party,” Olatunbosun said. . He said no democratic institution or political party “will waste its resources and time” to participate in a “compromised” election and under a “lawless administration as exemplified by Fayose.” He also accused the governor of demonstrating an “extreme recklessness and executive rascality” in the last three years of his government. “Fayose has constituted himself as an enemy of democracy, rule of law and a electoral process and therefore an institution, such as SIEC under him, is an aberration having been instituted contrary to the provisions of the law of the country, and, unfortunately, Ekiti courts are helpless in calling him to order because of fear of violent attacks,” the statement added. . “Again, the process of the emergence of the so-called candidates of PDP under the supervision of almighty Fayose inside Ekiti tate Government House was patently illegal and unconstitutional, yet SIEC accepted and approved of such undemocratic and illegal conduct, which points to the direction the charade is headed. . “We won’t join this charade because if they could do that to members of their party, then it is instructive for us as an opposition party to know we cannot have a free, fair and credible election, particularly under a caged, compromised and biased umpire.” https://www.thecable.ng/ekiti-apc-backs-saturday-lg-poll-accuses-fayose-hijacking-electoral-process |

For berating reggae maestro, Majek Fashek with reckless abandon on Tuesday, for performing at Commonwealth of Zion Assembly’s Christmas Concert, popular radio presenter, Ifedayo Olarinde, also known as ‘Daddy Freeze, incurred the wrath of Majek’s manager, Omenka Uzoma Day, who threatened to deal with him if he ever dares to repeat such a statement. . In a chat with Showtime, Uzoma said Majek performing in a church is not out of place, but rather a welcome development. . “Music is supposed to preach love and peace; don’t you like the idea of Majek going to sing in a church? Even politicians go to church because it is a place of hope where they can meet people for encouragement. I’m not fighting for pastors but for Majek, “he said. . Uzoma added, “In life people have ups and downs but Majek survived it all; we all know what happened to Whitney Houston and Michael Jackson, and Majek Fashek is in that class. He is the only Nigerian artiste that has made it to the billboard in America; in the whole of Africa no artiste has achieved that.” . According to Uzoma, Majek is too peaceful for anyone to court his anger by making such derogatory remarks. “Majek is too much of a humble and peace loving person that will never make trouble for Daddy Freeze to belittle him without doing proper research. That’s why I said I’ll beat him and conduct deliverance on him because he talks like a kid. So, the idea of beating him and conducting deliverance on him is meant to teach him how to talk.” . Confirming that he wasn’t bluffing, Majek’s manager said “ I wasn’t kidding, I will beat him because he wags his mouth anyhow for cheap publicity. People have called me from England that he’s like that, these are the things he does to make sure his name is everywhere; but he should go and be doing it where he’s from because he looks like people from Niger Republic. . He can’t be allowed to continue talking like that; even Jesus Christ in the Bible flogged people who were trading in the church. I don’t have a problem with him but if he dares open his mouth to talk about Majek again for cheap publicity I will beat him. I’m not making an empty threat, I’ll beat him.” . https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/12/wasnt-bluffing-beating-freeze-majek-fasheks-manager/ |
