Juliusmomoh: Some ignorant kids will come here and be saying "Only in Africa". I'm not saying the story is true or false but not "Only in Africa". CBS Reality airs ghost programmes all the time. There are white people who are professional necromancers. Some secondary school children without any life experience are always quick to mention "Only in Nigeria or Africa". In the meantime, ops story just made me laugh whether true or false. 7 Likes |
Sports / If Your Money Is Returned Everytime u Lost A Bet, Would You Use The Betting App? by Lindner: 12:05am On Nov 11, 2021 |
So , this is a question and straight to the point. I was part of a distributed team of Blockchain Engineeres that developed an application and I feared the idea was not validated before development. All we had was just the optimism of the promoters. This is it.. You placed a bet and you lost, the sports betting company refunds your money instantly. No stories, no bullshit. Guaranteed, everytime. Guaranteed because it's on the blockchain, cannot be manipulated. I know this because I was part of the team. Now my question to the regular betters... Would you use such an application? To the non-betters... Would you consider betting just because you know your money would always be returned to you even if you loose? Don't bother about how the winners will be paid or the technicalities. Note, this is just a personal survey, I'm not acting on behalf of any company. The project is completed and the team has been disbanded. The company is even foreign. I'm just curious. |

BSsniffer: Bro take am easy o.. I'm sure he has learnt his lessons this past few days. To the OP, most trials, both the ones we caused ourselves and the ones we did not, usually feels this way. It'll be like it's the end of the world, you may even loose interest in living. But see it for what it is... trials. All though you allowed youthful indiscretion dent your future with an unwanted pregnancy, you can still make something very good out of this. You are not the first to experience this and you wont be the last. Remember, at this point, the somewhat easy actions would prove to be the wrong ones. My advice to you is that you both inform your parents. Difficult, right? YOU CANNOT TAKE CARE OF THAT BABY YOURSELVES no matter how hard you work. You are both in school. Your parents would be angry and disappointed but you need them. You've both made wrong choices but for the sake of that baby, don't compound it with more wrong choices. This too shall pass. 1 Like 1 Share |
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: How Being A Nigerian Cost Me A Foreign Job by Lindner: 2:53pm On Oct 21, 2021 |
EjaikreTheViper: Can we stop this attitude of putting all the blame on our government. Yes, our government is a useless and irresponsible one. In all my travels, I've seen the way Nigerians live irresponsibly, they are fraudulent and criminally minded. These people would rather make a living through illegal means than than do honest work. Everywhere I go, there's this unspoken disappointment in people's faces when i introduce myself as a Nigerian. Few that bold enough and when discussions reach that point, they would voice out their reservations about us and I'll quickly clarify that it's not all of us. Are you telling me it's the government that is making Nigerians take to crime even in a foreign land? The building I lived is a 26 flats building, about 8 of the flats were occupied by Nigerians, ALL OF THEM WERE INTO FRAUD and constantly being a source inconvenience to the remaining neighbours with the way they live. The property management company had to be involved in many occassions. Our government is useless but we need to stop quickly passing the responsibility of our every terrible act on the government. THE TRUTH IS THAT A GOOD NUMBER OF NIGERIANS ARE BAD PEOPLE whether home or abroad. 9 Likes 1 Share |

Programming / Re: The Myth Of Saturation With Regards To Web Development. by Lindner: 10:52pm On Oct 20, 2021 |
tensazangetsu20: Of a truth, the industry is not saturated. We had the agricultural revolution and then the industrial revolution, now it's the technological revolution and it has not even peaked yet so if you're entering the industry now, you're still early. But this post would have been better if you added statistics especially the Nigerian market and for people targeting Nigerian employers. How many tech jobs are available and how many people are jostling for those jobs? I have a feeling that the Nigerian tech industry (as with every other thing in Nigeria) is near saturation. Ratio of opportunities (in any sector) in Nigeria to people is just too low. At my first real job in 2012, we were told by the HR at the induction that 44000 people applied for the job with first class and 2.1. Countless 2.2 and below. Figures would give a good sense of what the true situation is in Nigeria. But for international roles, there are literally thousands of open positions. The question is just how good are you to fill those roles. Some of us were just favoured by God. 3 Likes |

ezechidera: This is exactly what I've been saying. It's not until when the blockchain ecosystem becomes saturated that people will now start making effort. We need to understand the times. The best decision I made early this year was that I pivoted as full stack developer to blockchain development. If you have some experience, the demand is crazy and the pay is insane. My first pay as a blockchain developer with a US company almost drove me mad for the first few days even though I had little blockchain work experience. It's not necessary to abandon your current tech stack, but if you find passion in blockchain development, please do not hesitate. Its happening already. 4 Likes |

devmek: To be honest, I'm not qualified to give tips on how to beat HR's Applicant Tracking System. However, you'll be surprised at the volume of information available for free on the internet from qualified and experienced HR consultants. I didn't even bother about ATS, I just made sure I tailored my resume to meet international standards and specifically for a developer. If this is what you want, I can take a look at it on Sunday and give you tips if any. 2 Likes |

Nabi2000: Entry level devs are getting employed everyday however, you'll need to put in a lot of effort in the application process. Assuming there's no question about your development skill and your job application tools are top notch, you still have to develop a tough skin for rejection because most companies would still not trust you because you have no experience. But be comforted with the fact that it is only hardest when you're just starting out without experience. My advice to most beginners without experience (assuming the conditions I mentioned above are met) is to increase the number of QUALITY job applications they send out. At this stage, it may be down to a game of numbers. Myself as an example, when I started out, my first 100 to 200 applications were rejected. Some would not even reach HR because companies use automated screening tools to screen out resumes that failed some key words based on the advertised role. Once I got my first response/interview/chat/technical assessment e.t.c, I knew how to gauge the range of how many applications/rejections I needed to send out to receive a positive feedback(I learnt this during my banking days). I just targeted that number of applications per day. Thanks to LinkedIn, I filtered the type of jobs I wanted and experience level required and I started applying. On a particular day, I sent out up to 50 applications in 10 minutes( I dont advise this but I was desperate). I targeted ONLY foreign companies. Also, be ready for algorithm and data structures test as a beginner. They just want to be sure about the risk they want to take on you. Once you break that jinx of getting your first job, it becomes really easy. Depending on your experience, recruiters may even start messaging you privately and try to poach you away from your current employer. The interview becomes a mere chat. Nothing like tests e.t c. But the whole hassle is worth it. Even if you're paid $10/hr working 40hrs per week, it's not a terrible start. 6 Likes |

genaro2000: If you know react, it means you know some JavaScript. Also, most blockchain DApps use react as the frontend. You should find understanding Solidity easy as against someone without any coding knowledge. Most of those tutorials typically say you dont need any prior knowledge but I advise against it. You'll really enjoy it if you know the fundamentals. |

tensazangetsu20: I don't think women get roles easier than men. Perhaps because women are less represented in this field and men dominate, it may appear there are more unemployed men. All the women I've worked with are really "MAD" in terms of coding. 2 Likes 1 Share |

genaro2000: I think I know this tutorial. It's very good. I think it was done in 2017. It includes everything including frontend and web3. The only problem is that 4 years is a really long time in blockchain development. Most of the frameworks and tools are actively being developed. What you used last month may break this month. But altogether it's a good resource. |

airsaylongcome: I've worked for three different US companies plus the one I currently work with (there's another one I currently do part time with) , it's true that it's easier for them to make you an independent contarctor. Health insurance, benefits e.t.c are typically waved. Some do full time employment though. All these is just to make it easier to recruit remotely because the process of hiring full time can be unwieldy. Whether full time or contracting, just make sure you're well paid. I don't know much about remote job possibilities for other careers but software developments, there are thousands of open positions. The question is whether you're a great fit for those positions or not. 6 Likes |

Eggovic: You're correct. Diving straight into Solidity may not be a good idea for a beginner. Nothwithstanding, I've seen people without any prior programming knowledge trying to learn it but they suffered ALOT. They still end up writing smart contracts and deploying it to the blockchain but they still lack that basic foundation. Because it's an emerging technology, most employers too are not particularly keen about blockchain experience, they however require strong programming experience and knowledge of fundamentals. 1 Like |

airsaylongcome: Yeah. The IT ecosystem is wide and deep. The best way to stay sane is to choose a niche based on passion and stick to it. I've done frontend, backend and full stack roles but it bores me to death. My newly found love is blockchain engineering especially decentralized finance. Perhaps because of my background in banking. Writing solidity codes that could potentially handle several hundreds of millions of dollars would send your heart racing knowing a single vulnerability could wreck the lives of thousands of people. It's like writing codes on drugs. I really wish more people would consider blockchain development. That ecosystem is exploding and employers are desperate for talents. Unfortunately, it's when it becomes saturated, that's when you start seeing posts like "Help, I want to learn blockchain development". In 2020, the demand for blockchain developers grew by 512%. No other skill in any field had such growth and they're the highest paid also from statistics. With what I've seen in 2021, that growth is most likely going to be doubled. 12 Likes 2 Shares |

It's already too late. Your son also smokes and possibly do drugs. The only thing within your control right now is that he doesn't disrespect you by doing those things in your house. You gave him too much free hand. You need to start by shocking both your son and the olosho girl. Wait till he smuggles her in again and throw both of them out in the middle of the night, seize the key to his room. He's able to bring olosho home because he has a room. But again, you heaped all the blame on the girl, there is the possibility that your son is worse. He's not doing stuffs in your presence. Like I said, it's too late. Just manage him till he gets his own house and pray for him that he doesn't loose his life or encounters a life bending tragedy. 3 Likes |
