Who has flown Egyptair recently here? I hope I have no surprises.

Meanwhile it appears airlines have reverted to 634/$ as exchange rate.

What kind of gifts would you buy for village people abeg?

I used them December last year, and I pray never to be in a situation to use them again. Long delay in Lagos and in Cairo. And after landing at Heathrow over one hour later, still waiting for our luggage. I had to pay extra £35 to the taxi company I pre booked, because I really really delayed them.

On how it works, get an apartment and make friends with your neighbours, then ask them about the network with more service within your vicinity, they will gladly tell you.

Meanwhile the position of the flat might also be a factor, I know of ones that drops on just switching rooms

Thanks Boss, I'll find out which works best here.

Oh that enquiry is happening sooner or later. If contrey gets even harder than this as it will, it may not even be needed as will be clear to all and sundry that we ve been royally freaked by Brexit and its proponents.

Lol. Don't mind them. They wanted Brexit so badly and now they have it.

Oga! Them no think anything.
Britain cannot be great, make private decisions if they are still under the shadow of European Union.

Freedom is such a sweet thing and it helps people to develop at their own pace and strength.
You seems to have forgotten what prompted the fast tracking of that Brexit? The 'must' decisions taken by Europe to share Refugees & illegal crossers from Libya to Italy & Spain.

A couple of group of people may try to bring up that issue and how it is not beneficial, but the Israelites knows they will never go back to Egypt.

Na only Germany never want leave that their contraption, abi because them done use Germany self. (The most dreaded has been boxed & they become too soft)....on the softness,Japan too

But the situation on the ground shows the Brexit is biting hard on their businesses and other sectors. The PM has been going about trying to cut travel deals with the same EU they left because they wanted to have 'full control' of their borders and immigration system. And mind you, Britain has always made the loudest noise about immigrants, asylum seekers. Successive governments seem to be capitalising on that emotional topic to make the public think immigrants and immigration are the root causes of all their problems. Meanwhile, they're cashing out big on economic and academic migrants to the country, and aren't taking as many asylum seekers and other vulnerable migrants as Germany France and Spain. Yet, those countries don't go about complaining as much as the UK. Of course, rejoining EU is almost impossible at least for the foreseeable future as even the EU will be reluctant to have them back, but those truthful enough among them are admitting howbeit reluctantly that Brexit was a mistake. You don't pull out of the world's biggest market and expect not to feel the impact.

https://www.bbc.com/news/uk-politics-65384431

MPs have urged the UK government to launch a public inquiry to assess the effects of Brexit in a parliamentary debate triggered by a petition.

A three-hour debate was held after 183,000 people signed a petition calling for a public inquiry into the impact of leaving the European Union.

The government says Brexit was a "democratic choice" and dismissed calls for a public inquiry.

But some MPs branded Brexit a "disaster" and an "error".

They seem to be gradually admitting that Brexit was a mistake and misadventure.

You've said it all Bro. People should critically weigh their options well before making the move. If you think staying back in Nigeria is the best for you, all well and good. And if you think you'd fare better abroad, good luck to you. It's time we stopped this dick measuring contest on which is better between home or abroad, as well as the daily lamentation and complaints about UK, Canada, US, and others after moving there.

The last time I checked none of those countries forced anybody to move.

Absolutely! The dominant contest is with AI and tech in general.

Had a discussion with the heads IT operations and governance for a leading insurance group in the UK and I marvel at the disruptive impact AI is going to have on people's work. Companies are massively investing in automation and cutting out human interventions.

One thing I know is humans will evolve and survive.

Aptly put! The disruption is serious and there seems to be nothing stopping it, at least for now. Most industries and organisations that are hitherto against AI automation are now accepting it. Even one of Google's most recent updates said it's no longer against AI generated content, so long it gives value to readers.

Microsoft, apart from its billion dollars investment in ChatGPT for its search engine, is also rolling out designer Microsoft, which will significantly disrupt the graphics designing industry.

And like you said, we'll just have to keep evolving and reinventing ourselves. This has come to stay and like a friend once said, any organisation that's not thinking of incorporating AI into their business operations will soon find themselves left behind and possibly out of business.

Sad but it's a necessary evil; change in sync with global realities.

The next 50 years will witness massive career disruptions and transformations.

Aside the massive layoffs in Tech and Media, more are happening and will still happen, howbeit, they are/will be underreported. For instance, many banks and stores are closing up in UK, do you think they'll still retain all their in-branch workers?

On the bright side, new roles and careers are popping up. More opportunities are emerging. People will only need to readjust their lives and career goals.

Right now, careers that were lucratively distinct some 50-100 years ago are no longer the hot picks.

With the pandemic, global unrest, economic crisis and artificial intelligence, I can almost say that not so many careers can be future-proofed.

The way to get ahead is to incrementally add value to one's self, monitor/understand and strategize with insight from trends. Being flexible is key to achieving success in this age and time. But more importantly, is be have a super-consciousness: connection with God through Jesus.

Yes, many careers will be rendered redundant in some years to come, and that has always been the norm since time immemorial, though it's happening at a much higher paced rate now than before.

The concern really is that people aren't getting laid off for incompetence or failure to upgrade their skills, sometimes it's because their roles have now been automated and require less human element to function.

For instance, my team shortlisted some guys for data Entry job. Just as we were about to invite them for interviews, we came across a software that can perform the role we wanted to hire them for even better. That was the end of the application. Similar thing is happening now as we've started testing GPT4 for certain tasks we had planned to hire for.

Sometimes when I remember that we would have had additional 4 or 5 team members in the past few Months, but technology made them not needed anymore, not because they lacked the necessary skills, it becomes clearer that even the smartest people could be hit by this wave.

People learn differently so for some people when the pay for bootcamps, they learn better are able to practice and bag jobs. But the thing is you can actually make the transition your self by studying your self. Youtube is one of the most underated resources that most people are sleep on. Say for example if a bank teller want to transition to business analysis. You can search youtube for videos that give an overview on business analysis. Then then there are lots of reseource that go even deeper into it. If you discipline and spend your time. what you get would be an equivalent of 2 or 3 bootcamps. Simplilearn is one youtube channel that has several great materials on this and other areas. After understanding the landscape, you can go a step further and search for virtual internships to garner practical experience. Forage is on good resource for virtual internship and it take less than 5 mins to register. You get to work on live projects from fortune 500 companies(Deloitte, GE, TATA, KPMG) and can even reference this on you resume. The most important thing is get the experience and skillset. And you can do this without paying a penny by just investing time, internet connection and research, research research!!! From your room you can get experience. Especially if one is not an Omo babalowo.

For interviews, there are lots of materials youtube that can guide you in answering questions in your subject area especially using the STAR method. Record your self during interviews so you can know how well you perform. Take note of the questions you were asked, and research after the interview how to answer optimally. You can even use CHatgpt to get good answers and relate it to your experience. Searching for jobs is a job on its own. With grit and perserverance you will get what you looking for.

Thank you very much for these wonderful suggestions. I've always underrated YouTube courses, but with what you said here, I'll just have to start paying attention to it now. Many thanks Bro

Oops! Sorry you had such an experience.

The BA School run by Eno Eka is more fixated on optics and revenue than delivering value.

I once attended one of her sessions and all I could see was hype, motivation and a marketing scheme to get more money from students. I've had to unsubscribe from their mailing list after they bombarded me with tons of promotional content.

Regardless of your pathway - IIBA or BCS - you can self-study and ace the exams but the bigger challenge will be accessing the job market on a personal pedestal. However, this won't be much of an issue if you're looking to transition into a BA role within your current company. Either way, nothing is impossible, might just be difficult initially.

For IIBA's CBAP, you can buy the Udemy course by Ciel Academy. Engaging lectures delivered by a Nigerian, Obalim. For BCS, you can self-study as well or register with Twim Institute, a BCS-accredited academy in Nigeria.

I recently saw posts from Advance Care UK. It somewhat akin to High Impact Hub. See their poster below.

If person 2500 pound and e no get job after 2/3 months, no be gbege be that?

Thanks Bro for those helpful insights. You are right about their unending promotional content and marketing gimmicks. Lol at the last paragraph. It's not even just about getting a job, the question is will their course offer as much knowledge as it ought to?

Ah! Eno, and to think I considered taking her training. I think I listened to one of the intro sessions and decided against it. Thanks for sharing. Sometimes these first hand reviews are vital in helping us to make the right choice.

Yea, that's it. I joined one of her masterclasses and it looked promising, probably because she held that herself. That was what prompted me to enroll.

Please share the one you used.
I have attended info sessions with high impact and I think they are legit. I personally rate some of these Nigerian trainings higher than some in the UK because they tend to focus on getting the job, especially with the rise of remote working. I may go for a BA with them in the next cohort if I don't get the position I desire.

That's very correct.
The one I used was Business Analysis School, owned by a Canadian-based Nigerian lady. After paying over N200k they just assigned us an uninspiring teacher who was just taking us through a boring class. She would just present a slide and start reading to us. They expected us to complete the whole online teaching within 2 or 3 sessions (I can't remember now because I quit after 2 classes). It was so boring and cumbersome, like sitting from morning to evening just listening to some boring presentation. I have taken several courses on Coursera and I know how interactive they can be. That was what I was expecting, but ended up disappointed.

Why pay that high for Data Analytics when High Impact Career is there for you. It’s £600 for 10 weeks but subsidized for Nigerians and Africans at large to a price of N200k or it’s equivalent.

Check Ogbeni Dipo’s bio on Twitter for more information.

This sounds interesting.
Please, have you taken any courses from them, or do you know anyone who has? I'm considering their BA or DA course but would like to hear from someone with firsthand experience. I once paid for a BA course that turned out to be crappy, as far as I'm concerned, and just trying to avoid making the same mistake again. I've checked them on Trust Pilot but they don't have any reviews. Thanks

So well said, sir!

Your statement above (bolded) is the major bane of many Nigerians right now!

Many Nigerians seem to be hailing and praising their enemies, guised as friends or helpers. Suddenly, Buhari and Emefiele have become their heroes after 8 years of raining curses on them, simply because they foolishly think that the Naira re-design policy will hurt Tinubu.

As in, it's annoying how they allow politicians play on their intelligence. Fayose, FFK, Deji Adeyanju and several other political jobbers were once their heroes simply because they appeared to be against their perceived enemies. Emefelie and Buhari preside over the worst economic situation I've experienced in Nigeria, so it's amazing seeing people hailing those two simply because they made a "policy that will stop vote buying" grin hahaha

It baffles me how anyone in their right senses would think this nonsensical policy is meant to do Nigerians any good. I'm sure all those praising Buhari and Emefiele then can now see the effects of the poorly intended policy. Anyways, I am not surprised, Buhari has been an insensitive leader who cares less about the masses.

This same government put Nigerians through hell by closing borders without adequate plans and provisions for our import-dependent food items and rushed people through NIN registration without provisions for enough manpower and the required technology. I mean it's so bad that people are scampering for two of the most basic everyday needs: fuel and cash.

Of course, government after government will keep doing this as long as they know they can sell cheap lies to the masses who will hail them because the policy is "targeted at the elites." Forgetting that when two elephants fight, it is the grass that bears the brunt. Maybe one day we will realise that the enemy of my enemy isn't necessarily my friend, after all,

After all this initial gra gra, we all will finally come to the realization that ChatGPT isn't as reliable as most of its hypers would want us to believe, at least the current version.

Although it's expected that as companies try to get
back to pre-cobid work culture, many roles that became popular during lockdown may now become redundant. Plus, there's a massive war going on against remote work culture, as employers and industrialists, especially those whose businesses are directly connected to people's every day mobility and gathering, seem to be losing out. And the anti working from home team seems to be winning the war, as there has been an exponential decrease in fully remote roles advertised on job sites in the past few months.

So, in essence, the downsize at Google might be completely unconnected to ChatGPT, as the writer posited in the last 2 paragraphs.
Foreign Affairs / UK Finance Minister Kwasi Kwarteng Fired After Market Chaos And Tax-cutting Plan by LionInZion: 1:23pm On Oct 14, 2022
LONDON — British Finance Minister Kwasi Kwarteng was fired on Friday, amid mounting political pressure and market chaos after less than six weeks in the role.

Prime Minister Liz Truss is reportedly set to announce that the government will abandon key fiscal policy pledges laid out in Kwarteng’s controversial “mini-budget” on Sep. 23, including vast quantities of unfunded tax cuts.

Among the policies on the chopping block are Kwarteng’s pledge to reverse predecessor Rishi Sunak’s hike of corporation tax from 19% to 25%, estimated to cost around £19 billion by 2026, and a 1.25% cut to dividend tax.

The government earlier this month abolished its plan to scrap the top rate of income tax after a substantial public backlash, but this failed to quell market turbulence.

Kwarteng cut short a visit to Washington on Thursday to fly back to London as government ministers scrambled to address the market chaos unleashed in recent weeks.

This included a sell-off of long-dated government bonds that led the Bank of England to intervene in order to save pension funds from collapse, and a spike in mortgage rates for prospective homeowners.

Truss had been under immense pressure to rethink her economic policies, with opinion polls showing support for the ruling Conservative Party collapsing and lawmakers from within her own party reportedly plotting to oust her after a tumultuous first five weeks in office.

Despite this, both she and Kwarteng had remained publicly resolute in recent days, accusing critics of the government’s radical fiscal plans of being part of an “anti-growth coalition.”
