I was beginning to think Immigration (Legal and Illegal) was all they could flex their muscles on and naturally wondered if they had plans for other sectors of the economy: can't remember when last I read or saw a major immigration news until the whole thing on sick notes and public benefits.

The way they went on about it from middle to ending of last year ehn. grin At least Tier 4 holders can breathe some fresh air. Even Oga James Cleverly, we no hear about am again. Immigration this! Immigration that! No more anxiety inducing headlines for students. grin

As them don gather fight immigrants, the natural progression na to fight theirselves now at the bold. grin

UK ehn, na fad country. One fad fit reign for 4 months until it's replaced by another. grin

You've forgotten Aunty's Suella. That woman, Cleverly's own small for where she dey. Mehn, you've got to be really strong then for the bashing not to get to you as an international student. Anyway, hopefully their apologists will now begin to see that immigration isnt the cause of all their economic and infrastructural problems as their leaders tried to make them believe then. I agree that immigration should be controlled, but you don't have to demean immigrants, especially legal ones, to do that.

God bless Air Peace. Imagine if His Excellency Peter G. Obi was sworn in on May 29, 2023? By now it won't be only Air Peace ruling the skies, Innoson (Nigeria) motors would have been the government official car, modular refineries would have been licensed, National refineries would have been on the way... Most likely some of us here would have stayed back in Nigeria. But it is what it is... We'll eventually get there.

Hmnn I'm just wondering if you knew all these because you had a crystal ball? ๐Ÿ”ฎ

Maybe neocolonialism is the the reason why snakes keep swallowing money in Nigeria

So you don't know?๐Ÿ˜„ In fact it's the reason why we have one of the highest number of out of school children. It's the reason why our currency is weak. It's the reason we're world's poverty capital. I can go on and on. ๐Ÿ˜†

Sometimes when people blame neo colonialism for Nigeria's woes, i just dey think to dash them slap

I think say na only me. That's stupid victim mentality narrative is one of the dumbest arguments I've ever heard. Blaming slavery and colonisation of centuries ago for Africa's woes means we're still far from taking our destiny into our hands.

If the lady is on a spouse visa, ie.her husband was British, settled etc , then there is a specific application that allows her to apply for ILR as a bereaved partner.

Unfortunately, for dependants where the sponsor was on a points based visa, the home office will consider cancelling leave, although they can also exercise discretion if there are compelling compassionate factors in the case.

There are guidelines, for example the home office must allow a minimum period of one
month after the date on which the individual died before they contact any dependants
about the case. If they decide to cancel leave they can also exercise discretion to allow longer than the usual 60 days to depart/vary leave.

In this time the woman could explore obtaining sponsorship (although this would understandably be quite challenging for the poor woman to do at this very sad and difficult time) or making a Discretionary Leave to Remain application which is considered for exceptional or compassionate circumstances that are not accommodated in other immigration rules. If granted, it is usually for a period of 30 months after which further leave may or may not be granted depending on the facts of the case.

Thank you so much Zahra29 for the well detailed answer. I have been curious about this since reading various news of newly migrated Nigerians dying.

I am actually on about immigration wise, the hubby is the main applicant on skilled work visa.

Just out of curiosity, what will happen to the woman's and her children's stay in the UK no that the main applicant is dead? How does Home Office handles matters like this? Zahra29, any idea?

He is Nigerian, that's a fact that cannot be denied. His action has not added value to us, and we must condemn it. Other nationals might be doing it, but doesn't mean we should overlook this. The wife might have frustrated him, but violence has landed him in more trouble. Simple.

I don't think anybody is denying the fact he's a Nigerian, neither are they commending his action. But the fact is his action did not represent the wider Nigerian community, neither is it worth giving us a bad name over.

Hello my people, I have come again, my appreciation for your prompt response to my request/worry earlier today, I appreciate them a lot. My thanks goes to @Lexusgs430, @Controlv, @LaXxOnebody, @LionlnZion and my special thanks to @Jamesclooney; God bless you sir for your advice and encouragement, am grateful. I appreciate all Nairaland family, this is a community like family that relieve your burden when you don't see way forward.
About my last request and worries, tonight around past 7pm, I got home office approval for our skilled worker dependent visa and that of my children.
I will tell little of my story, I came into the UK late 2022 on a student visa, couldn't get a job, we were spending the little change we brought from Nigeria though we had paid 6 months rent in advance before leaving Nigeria and that really helped us when there was no job.
Early 2023 I later got a factory work, after working there for like 4 weeks, the stress was too much on me so I had to resign, the thing wan destroy my waist and leg, so I ran for my life. Thereafter I was using my car for Domino delivery though they only give me around 14hrs/week and sometimes even 10 hrs/week. I also was doing teaching as a cover supervisor to cover the remaining hours. Also my wife was really helpful during this my 1 year studies.
Fast forward, I was applying for jobs late December as my course ends in January, 2024, a lot of rejection because of student visa stuff but from January 2024, I started getting some interviews but when it gets to right to work, they always back off.

Along the line, an agent from an online jobsite categorically call me and told me that since I don't have UK experience, I should come down on my salary expectation and come to something like 35K or 40K but with my 16 years professional experiences and my experience in my last job in Nigeria, I was determined to go for the best. Also, from this forum, there were advices by some of our people that said you should go for the salary range you want and someone even said here that don't apply for salary range you don't want. Before I forget, I graduated with distinction when my result came out in February (All Glory to God). All these encourage me to go for what I want, I was applying for as many as I could in my desired salary range and later within the last two weeks of interview I got a job of over 60K with hybrid working and a lot of benefits.
I am so grateful to God for His mercies and to this forum for all the precious advises. Am grateful.

I decided to write this long epistle as this might encourage someone in this group that it will always get better. Thank you once again.
Please pardon me for any typo.

Congratulations brother. So happy for you. This is another evidence that with dogedness and planning, opportunities plenty for this land. Success in your new job!

Happy Sunday, below is my situation, I got a job offer(application /interview process was faster than anticipated) and I initially told them I will be resuming next week but my issue is, have already applied for my skilled worker dependant visa but not out yet and I supposed to submit it with my documentation.

I can't resume the work with my student visa hence why I applied already to switch.

My question is: can I write the company to change my resumption date?
Or what's your advice?

Since you've made the application, you've done your part, and the rest is out of your control. It's left for the Home Office to make a decision on it, which might take up to 8 weeks. The question is will the company be patient to extend your resumption for another 8 weeks? I really doubt that.

In your shoes, I would gather all relevant pieces of evidence for the application as part of the documentation for the job resumption. Most employers would be happy to onboard you once they see evidence of your application even before the visa approval, except of course you're applying from outside the UK.

Is trainline I used. I only got booking reference, no tickets..

Another option is to send the reference number to the person. If the station has manned ticket booth, your friend will only have to show the staff there the reference and they'll print the ticket for them.

Biko, please, edakun, abeg can we please refrain from discussing Naija politics here. The vibe is not good for this beautiful thread. In the end It'll always be a waste of time arguing who's better between two Nigerian politicians, especially the crop of 1999 to date - it's an insult to the word "better". Maybe Who's worse would be more appropriate.

This has nothing to do with black people or Nigerians. People argue nonsense and allow their egos push them into d**k measuring contests all the time whether thatโ€™s based on income or other things. Itโ€™s definitely a human thing and not racial.

If you constantly come across this among black people you interact with, itโ€™s a reflection of your circle and not a valid basis to generalize.

20 hrs/ week should remain 20 hrs/week.

After you submit dissertation, you can start working full time.
Mind you most employers will request share code or some kind of evidence showing you have been cleared.

It is not always straightforward like that. You can only work full term when you are NOT in term time and/or after you have officially completed your course. You may submit your dissertation and still be in term time. and even still have other coursework to complete

CC Mosme, I will advise you check your term time calendar or ask from the school. These things vary from one school to another even across different courses in the same school

It is you and God. What skills will they be looking for that someone like that will not have. Someone that can pass cfa all stages cannot be daft. He was working for international investment bank in Nigeria. Any body that can work a Russian investment in some depts cannot be stupid.
In healthcare assistant jobs theu are crazy about cert because they easily pass that but when it comes to the other one they say it is skills cos u cannot defend it so much during interview.
Some foolish ones will say it is attitude and every thing can be learnt . How do u determine someone with the right attitude to work within 30mins for an external candidate?
My female cousin who graduated years ago without job in Nigeria started doing catering in Nigeria didnt stay up to months after graduation she got a job in this UK and dont go telling me skills.
I have anotherguy who told an agent not put him forward for strategic post where he will be in charge of a team because he knew that unconscious bias will be involved. To some Europeans every african represents someone who lives on a tree.
Have u asked yourself why a group of people came up with 10k black interns?
If you have a job because of your skills good for you but don't think others do not have because they are unskilled or not smart. It is all about "time and chance"

@Poanan,

So many strong statements and jabs in this short post of yours. It makes me wonder if you are talking about different UK that I also live in.
1. A lot can be determined within the short 30-minute interview by both the interviewer and interviewee, and there is also a probation period.
2. Why would anyone chicken out of a prospective great role if they are confident of their ability?
3. If any European is still thinking Africans live in trees, it's not because they are European - it's because they are foolish. And foolishness isn't peculiar to a race.

Lastly, if I may freely advise, you might need to start letting go of certain prejudices.
