Politics › Re: Petrol: 58% Price Difference Fuels Smuggling To Neighbouring Countries by lionshare: 10:47am On Nov 25, 2024
This is beneficial for the economy since our rate is already deregulated. The government should implement a special tax on petroleum product exports by road and legalize smuggling, which would create more business opportunities for Dangote, generate additional revenue for Nigeria, reduce stress for smugglers, and eliminate bribery at borders grin.

Do u think u are talking to a child?
This trader's perspective is quite short-sighted, as the role of middlemen is rapidly fading with the rise of the D2C (Direct-to-Consumer) model. Just look at what Temu is achieving—can any trader compete with those prices? It's time to focus on empowering people with new skills for value creation, going far beyond just trading.

Mad people.

Individuals within and outside the country don't sponsor Ekpa to destabilize the South East.

Spits!!!
why are you lots seemingly unhappy about this guys arrest—don’t you want any semblance of progress in the east—the very premise of progress is peace.

If it’s not diplomatic pressure what’s Finland’s business with insecurity in Nigeria?

All this uproar over a single generic CIA response! It’s merely speculation without solid evidence. The federal government should urgently declare a state of emergency in our education sector to address the fundamental issues hindering our citizens’ ability to think critically. Am I mistaken? Do you have any proof to support your claims beyond that generic CIA statement?

Not true, Atiku lost because he lack the know how on all manner of corruption, and greedy to a point,
For someone who has been at that political level for over three decades, if he were truly more popular, combined with Buhari's ineptitude regarding the economy, the election should have been a walkover for him.

Obi lost election because he was hoping on the court to reinstate him, forgetting that politics on a national level is different from politics with kinsmen…
The same thing atiku has failed to understand… to win presidential elections, you must be ready to do the following:

1. Grab the ballot box
2 Grab power by all means
3 Intimidate the citizens
4 Bribe the officials, especially inec chairman and the judges
5. Kidnap , threaten, cajole the officials that refuse to accept bribe and even their families are not left out

6. Be the one the citizens dislike

If you do these 6 things, be rest assured you’re the next president of Nigeria,
You cannot pursue any of the above if you lack popularity; in every Nigerian presidential election since 1999, the most popular candidate has always won, without exception.

I'm a Peter Obi supporter till tomorrow. But, tbh, he messed up in that statement. The singling out was the problem. And, it probably reveals why Obi lost the 2023 election despite the strong human support he got. He may have downplayed the Divine aspect.

Even in your deepest privacy, you know that Obi will rule Nigeria better than 98% of everyone who has shown or is showing interest in occupying Aso Rock. But, you Nigerians are legendary at rejecting good things so that you can enjoy complaining against the bad things. It looks like a curse actually. No quarrels though cos I don't have that time.
There is no evidence to support this assertion

No...all it takes is a squeaky clean leader everyone trusts, and a willing citizen ready to adjusts to a corrupt free Nigeria! If you don't break the law, you have no business with the police run by the military, or the Judiciary run by the military court... If you use the civil services, you will wait on the queue and give no bribe....

Is this too much of a problem to endure for six monthshuh
You must suspend the constitution to do this; otherwise, even a magistrate court can declare it null and void, not to mention superior courts. Also, no one on earth is perfectly Squeaky clean; that's an unrealistic dream.

The first time I realized that Nigeria can work was when a baby I know off, born abroad in a common area country, and needed a passport so he can cross back and get a resident permit in he country his parents resides, it was done together with a new NIN within one week. that was early this year!

I was like what? So its this easy, was it because of the payment was in USD?

Here now, is some fellow getting his within 26th hours!

A serious president will first of all sack the Police force, give the Army control over internal; policing for 6 months while a new band of patriotic police force is recruited and and trained among all cadre.

Sack all lower to middle cadre members of the civil service. hand it over to a new set of contractors for six months while a new set of civil service is recruited and trained. Every one who had earlier worked can not be reemploy. They should go start a farm! Or any side hustle or work as contractors etc.

Disband the entire judiciary and hand over all civil matters to a Military court, while a new set of NJC and its judges and members are recruited and trained. for six months. All former employees are not allowed to work. If caught forging credentials to get employed...life imprisonment.

Within 1 year, Nigeria will be the most corrupt free country on earth grin grin grin grin grin grin grin grin

The problem of Nigeria lies in these three set of people.....Both politicians and the ordinary corrupt Nigerian needs one or all of these three to do wrong and get away with it!
This is only possible under a dictatorship!

May God bless all past and present leaders of Lagos. To accelerate progress, let’s mandate each Local Government Area (LGA) to develop 10MW of power annually for four years, totaling 800MW. This would allow LGAs to disconnect public infrastructure from the national grid and provide affordable electricity to select customers.

I understand that everyone pursues their intest, and the interest of you and I as consumers is the price we pay for petroleum products. The only party that can control price is the Government. Unfortunately, they are saying that they have a law which has deregulated the sector and they are no longer in control of pricing. So the only option is to persuade the Government to reconsider their stand as provided for in a democracy.
You want government to regulate PMS price? really?
Politics › Re: We Support Competition But Won’t Allow Continued Petrol Import –Dangote Refinery by lionshare: 7:14pm On Nov 07, 2024
TheBillyonaire:
I agree completely with your assertion. Mrs. Dangote's pricing model is disappointing. A refinery is a generational investment, given that he might be owing some loans, he should renegotiate his credit lines repayment and drop down the price of the products. That way he can actually encourage higher marginal sales.

I think he might need help in Sales strategies, over the years Aliko has been operating on common-sense strategies which are really counter intuitive. He has opportunity to own the Africa's market but his price engineering and crude profiteering strategies is somewhat archaic.
Thank you for your insightful commentary. The core issue here revolves around the foreign exchange (FX) rate. As rates increase, it becomes more expensive to pay down and service dollar-denominated loans. This situation suggests that he is not generating enough FX from export sales, which forces him to maintain higher selling prices. This may explain his request for a special rate from the federal government, potentially at the expense of Nigerians.

However, I believe he needs to consider the bigger picture. A reduction in the price of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) could lead to greater stability in the FX rate. With the upcoming Electronic Foreign Exchange Matching system, we can expect rates to decrease as all FX transactions become more transparent, similar to the Nigerian Exchange Group (NGX).

I also agree with the federal government's somewhat detached approach; allowing market participants to navigate these challenges independently may be beneficial. As long as Kudi is involved, PMS importers and Dangote are likely to find common ground through either intense competition or dialogue, ultimately benefiting the public in the medium to long term.
Politics › Re: We Support Competition But Won’t Allow Continued Petrol Import –Dangote Refinery by lionshare: 11:10am On Nov 07, 2024
TheBillyonaire:
Competition is a game between partners on the same field of business. Importers compete with each other. Mrs Dangote is a refiner and the parties that are qualified to compete with him is Mrs NNPC via their refineries. So Importers and Mrs Dangote are actually not in the same line of business.

The importers are getting their products from Mrs, Dangote's competitors abroad, while neglecting a local refiner like Dangote, because their excuse is that Dangote's product is expensive, but that is not totally true. They do not want transparency. Mrs Dangote has declared the price point for her products, so the importers can as well buy from her and retail at a price, which we will know the profit, but they prefer importing from abroad because they can actually buy sub standard product at ridiculously low price and flood the market with it therefore undermining local refining dynamics. The effect will be massive profits for them, rising fx fluctuation margins and empowring other economies.

It is better than they form a joint venture and build refinery to actually compete with Mrs Dangote, because right now they are not in competition. Mrs Dangote refiners and importers are mere traders.

I want this discomfort to end in this generation.
Personally, I find the discussion about quality to be troubling. Ideally, local refining should lead to slightly lower prices—perhaps a reduction of around 10-15%—which would account for the premium petrol that typically retails at a maximum of 20% above the regular price. Therefore, Dangote's pricing should either match that of importers or be slightly lower. What is the point of local refining if it doesn't ensure energy security and affordability? Additionally, quality control falls under the regulator's purview; if importers are violating regulations, we need to take decisive action. Otherwise, we should keep the market open to all players. In my opinion.
Politics › Re: We Support Competition But Won’t Allow Continued Petrol Import –Dangote Refinery by lionshare: 10:30am On Nov 07, 2024
TheBillyonaire:
Importation should be banned for now. All importers should concentrate their assets in building refineries in Nigeria. If we do not go through this painful phase, our children will.
No, we must allow competition; otherwise, monopolies will emerge. I acknowledge that there are several refinery projects underway, but none are likely to be operational in the next few quarters. We need a free market with free entry and exit. Dangote should compete; he has the economies of scale necessary to drive down prices and outcompete importers.

Foreign Affairs › Re: Now That Trump Has Won, What Are Implications To FG And Nigeria? by lionshare: 7:27pm On Nov 06, 2024
The FG must diversify its income sources due to expected declines in oil prices, driven by Trump's push for lower energy costs to curb inflation, which may boost U.S. oil production and create a global oversupply. Also, reduced global conflicts could stabilize inflation, benefiting emerging markets and attracting FPI & FDI to countries like Nigeria.

Sheuns:
The main problem aren’t the dogs themselves but the irresponsible owners that don’t know how to train dogs but will keep them.

Some are so irresponsible to the extent that they laugh when their dogs chase or bark at people. All they will say is “It won’t bite you” “Don’t run”. They don’t even understand dog’s body language.

Restrain your dogs if they start barking at people.
Solution: Let’s tax dog owners based on the aggressiveness of the breed of the dog. Should the dog hurt anyone, the animal should be euthanized, and the owner imprisoned for several months and banned from having any other pet for 10 years.
