What is surprising is that Nigeria does not seem interested in telling it's own version of the story. The result is that we believe what we are told. After all, in law silkence is an admission of guilt

Mutegi, a Constitution is just a document, which is as good as a person behind it. A constitution is not a cure all. It only provides certain benefits to an individual. A good leader does not need a constitution. He needs good people. As for change, we can see what is happening in Kenya now. You are now aware of who is responsible to the disappearance of maize in Kenya. I am sure you have been getting the news in the last 24 hours. And I am not talking about all the other scandals which are now coming out. And what is Raila doing in India anyway. He likes spending money travelling while we are starving. While at it, tell him to resettle the displaced persons. They did not vote for him, but that does not mean they have no right to live on the land they bought.

Nigeria's Economic Options

In the recent days, the international media has come up with some very interesting stoies from Nigeria. Firts, there was a story about the expansion of Calabar by the Federal Government of Nigeria. Then there was a storyu about the abject poverty of the people of Niger Delta.

Nigeria is a major oil producer in Africa. It is also the most populous with some 150 million people. With the oil revenue. Nigeria could start some petro-chemical industries. These would in themselves, start other industries. It is strange that Nigeria produces oil, but does not have an oil refinery. Kenya does not produce oil, but has an oil refinery that serves most East and Central African countries. Some of the refined oil is infact, from Nigeria! And with the oil revenue, Nigeria could improve the infrastructure.

Nigeria has a large population, and this translates into a huge market which needs to be satisfied. So Nigeria should embark on industries intended to satisfy this demand, before going international. This is what China and India have done. You can clearly see the amount of investment that has since been pumped into these countries.

The Niger Delta is the third largest in the world. It has attracted a wide variety of birds and wildlife. It is a home of many trees. But these are fast disappearing, because the people are cutting down trees. They are too poor to buy the oil under their feet for domestic purposes. This is very unfortunate.

If the oil was refined within Nigerian, and was to cater for Nigerians first before the international markets, it would be cheaper. It could then be used to produce and provide cheaper energy and generate electricity. Cheaper energy translates to lower costs. Lower costs translate to a booming economy.

Kenya is at crossroads. In what is looking as a tuff war. the two main partners, the Orange Democratic Party of Raila Odinga and the Party of National Unity of President Kibaki, are now digging in on who is in charge of Governmenet. And this is very sad and unfortunate, coming as it does, barely a year after the ill-fated elections, and in which thousands of Kenyans have yet to be resettled.

To begin with, I did, somewhere last year, argue that Odinga should not accept any discussions oon a Coalistion Government until some matter on who was to do what, were settled. This was ignored. People were too busy, and in a hurry to secure Government positions.

So the Constitution was changed, to create a position of Prime Minister without fine-horning the whole Constitution. The result is that the President, read Kibaki, is still very much in power. Nothing has changed, and it has suddenly dawned lkate in the day to Raila and his sympathisers, that he really doesn't have any authority. Whatever he has is superflous

What Kenya has witnessed in the last few days, is a tug-of-war between Raila on one hand, and the Head of the Civil Service. It has something to do with who has the right to hire and fire members of the public Service, and specifically, who is authorised to restructure the Electoral Commission of Kenya.

The fact is, since the Constitution was never really changed. the President is still the Head of Government. Raila supervises and co-ordinates the Ministries, but this turns him into no more than an errand boy. He is just a supervisor, but cannot make decisions! The Head of the Civil Servive can work independently, citing direct orders of the President. After all his office is a Constitutional office.

I have stated in the past, that the coalition was not the best way for Kenya. I stated that it was a threat to democracy in Africa. I even quoted examples of Prime Ministers before. We had this set-upn the Congo, and ended up with the longest conflict to date. In Uganda, Milton Obote removed the Kabaka who was President, and we ended up witnh Iddi Amin. In Zimbabwe, Robert Mugabe removed Canon Banana and we can now see the results.

Is another internal coup being set up in Kenya to remove Kibaki and instal Raila as President?

I hope my fear is misplaced. But too many things have happend and can happen. The situation in Kenya is too volatile. Such an act would cause instant bloodshed. Raila has too many enemies, people who fear him or don't trust him. And people who are too ambitious, even within his own party. It is highly unlikely that he would survive such an act.

The year 2008 is gone and we are now in the early 2009. So we have our dreams and we passed our resolutions. Now we must honour the girls who have been contributing in Nairaland and give them their due respect and appreciation!

So all you red-blooded guys have a real duty to do this year. We simply must decide, who gets the title of the sexiest girl on Nairaland? Who is the most desirable and the most beautiful?

You base your judgment on one simple fact; if Nairaland was to wake up one day, and ask you to choose the girl you would like to spend sometime with on a deserted island, whom would you chose? The main condition is that she must come from among the Nairaland dames, married or single.

I would chose Lady T. Any other?

Capitalism has always been there. So has communism. They are not new. They only had different names and the situation was different. But is is not an excuse to destroy the work of Jesus.

Somewhere in the Bible, there is a verse which says, Heaven and earth shall go away, but my Word shall never go away. So people and situation may change, but the word of God will never change. So let us not misuse his word to enrich ourselves. Remember. only the meek shall inherit the earth

Jesus never built any of those. If you remembers, when human beings started building the tower of Babel, God himself destroyed it!
