the UK has minimum corruption and they are efficient in managing resources for development. Can you give us the economic benefit to our nation? All our roads are bad without marking and road furnitures yet we are spending this amount of money on coastal highways that benefit the few who got the contract. The UK has a ministry that oversees and execute projects but here its contract to few individuals who lacks capacity to execute. It would have been better if we developed our seaports and railways in 8 years and we try to be efficient than building a road that will be abandoned in the next 6 years

Why can't the sub nationals take over the maintenance of sections of those roads that falls within their states if it will boost the economy of the state......I always refer to Edo state under obaseki,sapele road was an eye sore ,but all the revenue that comes from developments around there goes to the state govt,why couldn't the state govt take it up to fix it? Same is the bayelsa end of the east west Rd that's not more than 30kms,why can't the state govt fix it to the benefit of it's citizens ?

When conceived the eko Atlantic 25 years ago,no one saw th vision but he did,now how has that panned out,it's now a multi billion dollars investment haven which is a plus for not only Lagos but the entire country,he also conceived the lekki corridor development, look where that as also gotten us,progress and development......there was alimosho,mushin,badagry,ikorodu etc before lekki epe exp way but now those places are now getting the needed attention and development at their own pace.

One political dimension to the Lagos-Calabar coastal Highway is that it will kill the political will and investors motivation to build or develop deep seaport projects in other regions of the country.

The arguments will always be that- if you can move your container by trucks from Tin can, Apapa or Lekki Deep Seaport to anywhere in the country in record time, why spend $2B to build another? This argument doesn't take into consideration the regional development that comes from functional Seaports.

I don't mean to sound tribalistic, but this same subtle economic suppression of other regions is why the Ibom Deep Seaport project has not seen the light of the day. That project is located in Ibaka in Mbo in Akwa Ibom where the natural drought does not need the continous dredging that is required in Lagos Seaports. In 80% of Federal Government's mega economic projects and decisions favours Lagos, I hope indigenous Westerners won't ask why people are leaving other regions to Lagos.

Imagine how relieved Lagos will be if the Ibaka- Onitsha economic corridor is active. And before you blame the State Government, remember that outside investors fundings, 70% of approvals and licensing for Seaports projects come from the Federal Government.

For the Highway project itself, I commend Mr President and the commitment of the Minister of Works, Mr Umahi from Ebonyi.

I beg to differ.....if Nigeria economy grows as tinubu is projecting 1 trillion usd GDP,we definitely need more ports,the problem with developing more tight now is that it isn't economically viable as at present based on our current economic realities.....would you rather over saturate the country with more ports when the 3 you have in Lagos are not even being used optimally.

The ibom deep sea port is very important as it is a natural deep sea with adequate draught,it can also serve as a hub for transit to central African countries......the completion of the coastal road will even boost th development of the ibom port as it will easily connect it with other parts of the country as an importer in Lagos for instance will be able to quickly evacuate and transport his container to Lagos from there......also to Abuja through the calabar Abuja highway being conceived by this govt.

Lagos is the economic hub of Nigeria and it's only natural that it gets the most development attention and capital......it's in the best interest of govt to strengthen Lagos than abandon it to start new developments in other areas considering the limited resources at govts disposal,it doesn't make much economic sense at the moment.
