Scientists have condensed billions of years of evolution into a flash with an AI that has created a miniature walking robot from scratch. We’ve come a long way from the dawn of robotics way back in the early 1950s, with scientists endeavoring to build on this discipline in the decades since. While there have been many successes, including much of the automation we see in factories today, there’s also plenty that researchers are trying to iron out. Likewise, we’ve seen plenty of examples of robots that can walk and navigate their terrain from the likes of Boston Dynamics, but it’s taken years to get to this point. Now, an AI system devised by a team at Northwestern University has intelligently designed a walking robot in just 26 seconds, with the findings set to be published soon in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences. The AI program can design new systems and structures from scratch, and runs not on a data center, but on a normal PC. This is unlike many similar AI systems that rely on huge amounts of power. Researchers then tested the AI-powered algorithm they created by giving it the prompt to design a robot that could walk across a flat surface. REF: https://www.techradar.com/pro/and-thats-how-it-all-started-ai-managed-to-design-a-robot-that-walks-from-scratch-and-in-less-than-60-seconds "We discovered a very fast AI-driven design algorithm that bypasses the traffic jams of evolution, without falling back on the bias of human designers," said project leader Sam Kriegman, according to TechXplore. "We told the AI that we wanted a robot that could walk across land. Then we simply pressed a button and presto – it generated a blueprint for a robot in the blink of an eye that looks nothing like any animal that has ever walked the earth. I call this process 'instant evolution.'" The computer began with a block about the size of a bar of soap, and the AI ran through several iterations to assess the design, identify flaws, and physically carve the structure to perfect the design. After nine attempts, the robot it designed could walk at a pace equivalent to the human stride – but, of course, scaled-down relative to its own size. |
EleventhWeirdo:This is why we need to evolve into a society of evidence, evidence EVIDENCE - or we'll be destroyed by actions informed by superstition's speculations, tales, rumours and social media's The People's armature news... |
I mean to offend no one and apologise in advance for any offence caused but has anyone considered whether there was actually no Israeli Intelligence failure? Spock’s Illogic: “The Needs of the Many Outweigh the Needs of the Few” |
Judybash93:If you're going to be basic, i'll respond basically. Majority of the world has nothing against your skin colour. Black people largely face these prejudices because it pays handsomely to be prejudiced to black people. It pays financially , socially, religiously, politically and in so many other ways to be prejudiced against black people. Here are some basic example: You only need to search the Internet a second to find some beautifully built, superior in any way you care to imagine, African American male or female asking inferior looking beings such as an Indian, South American, Chinese, Japanese, Aboriginal, Tahitian etce, would you date a person like me? Would your parents accept ,me,a black person? These questions alone will fill the inferior Asian, European, Latina individual being questioned with a sense of superiority, which is a gain to them. Another example, there is trillion dollar cosmetic and hair industry founded on black females believing that they are inferior to the females of other races. Black people will not support a black enterprise because it is black owned so other races will fill the gap. It pays to keep black people self hating. |
Yeah, I found the Dele Farotimi performance referenced childish and irresponsible. There are a number of high profile Nigerians like this - righteously angry. At this stage, no one should be impressed. |
Tribe as a weapon is used by a third party not Igbo, not Yoruba not Nigerian to sabotage threads on Nairaland by disrupting Nigerians unifying to attack the right targets. The tread about Ethiopia officials killing a Nigeria woman is an example. Ethiopia deserved severe criticism from Nigerians for that act and the Nigeria government needed questions asked on what actions it would take. But the thread was hijacked by the third party, directing comments towards childish, stupid, tribal cussing. |
Ultimately, Nigerians of all persuasion will have to mentally decide if they want a sitting president impeached on a Technicality because that is what the fudged documents amounts to in this matter. Acceptable evidence will emerge through the fog of doubt and alternating arguments that he, Tinubu, did attend the high institutions claimed (acquiring the qualifications claimed ) and confirmed by the relevant institutions. It cannot however be satisfactorily dismissed that, not having the authentic documents required by the Nigeria electoral rules that qualifes him presidential candidate, Tinabu gave in to the typical Nigeria urge to circumvent obstacles by plumbing for a short term, short-cut, statutory unlawful means. This attitude sterming from the frontiers nature of our Nigeria realities. He went and obtained a custom-made replica document from unauthorised vendor. Nigeria progresses silently and invisibly and he Tinabu was a victim of this just as the railways of modernity overtook the cowboys frontiers. He did not count on what he did becoming a bone of contention in a Nigeria where such behaviour was staple. His "criminal record" not helping. Nigerians will need to weigh up whether to risk the existence of the nation on this technicality. Contemporaries argue that in the case of AL Gore v Bush, the US supreme court made controversial decisions in order to safeguard America and mitigate civil unrest. In our current Nigeria climate that would be corruption. In our defence, It is axiomatic that devouts of other people's religion are more rigid and fanatical than originators . We need to be pragmatic. |
“Nigerian woman, Chizoba Favor Eze has been brutalised to death at Kaliti Prison in Ethiopia. She died on March 12, 2023. It’s so sad that the policemen killed our sister. They gave her internal injury on her chest after brutally hitting her on the breasts which led to her death,” a source in the facility had said Nigeria government needs to raise concerns over this incident. Then there's the issue of the other Nigerians jailed over there, if they received fair trial. Nigeria authorities also need to start issuing Nigerians travel advisories. We need to prioritise the safety of our people over diplomatic niceties such as courtesy, respect and not causing offence. If Nigeria has warnings in place against travel to shithole nations like Ethiopia, Libya etc then incidents like these without prompt action by Nigeria government, wouldn't be so condemnable. |
The Nobel Prize in Physics has been awarded to three scientists for discovering a way to study the world at a level previously thought impossible. The Nobel Assembly announced that Pierre Agostini, Ferenc Krausz and Anne L’Huillier would receive the 2023 prize of 11 million Swedish krona (£824,000) for creating extremely short “attosecond” pulses of light in order to study the inside of atoms. Applications for the research include molecular fingerprinting, which could lead to ways to detect cancers at a very early stage. “We can now open the door to the world of electrons,” said Eva Olsson, Chair of the Nobel Committee for Physics, during a ceremony in Stockholm on Tuesday. “Attosecond [one millionth of a trillionth of a second] physics gives us the opportunity to understand mechanisms that are governed by electrons. The next step will be utilising them.” She added that the laureates’ contributions “have enabled the investigation of processes that are so rapid they were previously impossible to follow”. Professor Anne L’Huillier from Lund University in Sweden becomes only the fifth woman to ever win the Nobel Prize in Physics in its 122 year history. “It’s incredible,” she said. “There are not so many women that get this prize - so it’s very, very special.” The award comes a day after the Nobel Assembly awarded Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine “for their discoveries concerning nucleoside base modifications that enabled the development of effective mRNA vaccines against Covid-19.” The awards for chemistry, literature, peace and economics are set to be announced between Wednesday, 4 October, and Monday, 9 October. |
BoldBrainz:Top answer. |
blueAgent:Cyprus is a small insignificant Nation that couldn't arguably beat Nigeria in anything save cleanliness. The argument you could make for Cyprus is ultimately meaningless because it is too small compared to Nigeria. A nation of 250 million people approx compared to 1.2 million. |
phemmyfour:If, academically, you had to make the case for a nation as an evil entity, you would not struggle with Brazil as your topic. |
No African country on the list is better than Nigeria and apart from basic infrastructure cleanliness, Nigeria is also better than a few of the none African nations like Fiji, Cyprus etc |
Niaralanders often ask why are white and Asian nations so much better than Africa nations. I believe that at core Africans don't want to do well because they prefer "Violence" as one poster keeps posting memes. It seems to me that solutions to problems are a dime a dozen and easy to implement due to the world's general advancement since antiquities. But black people don't want solutions to problems they want excuses to cause problems. |
Nigeria could also introduce some invasive species like the American wild boars.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g9eONFHrW8U?feature=shared |
Rising Cost Of Living In Nigeria, What Of The Poor Among Us?Help one another between berating government and doing the Opposing & Opposition Government stuff. Nothing stops the wealthier individuals or moderately okay elements in Nigeria society opening Free Meals Centers. In Jamaica, wealthy people used to run places where the very poorest could go and eat. These places served free and pay-what-you can meals once a day. People can donate food to the place or help out by cleaning, serving, washing plats and street children etc. I don't want to credit Jamaica alone, my mum used to do something like this but small scale. I grew up wanting to establish permanent free food places on an industrial scale all over Nigeria with my name as the brand. |
Why didn't anyone think of providing the governor a megaphone. Actually , as a man who seems to monologue often with the public, a megaphone aught to sit on his desk like part of the office furniture. |
A teacher in the UK, I believe, once informed a Nigeria parent that thire child was failing and the parent replied that they didn't understand why the teacher was telling them this without shame since it was the teacher's duty as a teacher to ensure the child was passing. You the teacher is failing not the child. Governors and people in authority positions in Nigeria should never point to any failure in the system, it is thire duty to make things work. |
iamtardey:Indeed. These things- ceremony, occasions etc are very important in life, for children and adults. They help discipline, give purpose, inclusivity, bonding, creat memories, imbue expertise, skills and so on. Life without social events, can be directionless. Hope the governor isn't discarding the ceremony due to one of the chief reasons that hold back Nigeria. I mean the inability to Organise. Our lacking maintenance culture is due to our inability to Organise. Perhaps failing or finding the requirements needed to get the event up and running too fussy, involved, pricy, they took the easy options of abandoning the event. Publicly, they offer excuses the masses are amenable to accept as reasons for cancellations. Tell the average Nigerian you're no longer going to do or provide him or her X, Y or Z because of some supposed national flaw and he'll jump up with glee like some demented masochist. Opposition Politics created this mindset in Nigeriains. |
