Your question isn't very clear. Do you have a new passport yet or not?

If you have a new passport, yes you can travel with both. You present both at the airport. This is normal and happens all the time i.e visa in previous passport.
If you don't have a new passport, you may be able to travel with the one expiring in May 2024. You'll need to call the airline you wish to travel with to confirm if they'll allow you travel with a passport that has less than 6months validity. They should, since you have an immigrant visa and most likely a one way ticket.

However, I'll suggest you get a new passport before leaving Nigeria. It'll be much cheaper than having to get it in Canada. Passport fee is higher and there's also the cost of travel to Ottawa.

May06:
Hello everyone,

I would like to find out whether anyone has done their PR landing with a renewed passport. My passport will expire in April 2024. I am travelling this December. Is it advisable to renew my Passport in Nigeria before travelling to Canada?I will travel with both the old and new passport but I would like to know whether anyone (a) has done this, (b) if yes, please dkd you face any challenges because of this?

Thanks.

oh this sounds very interesting!! alone?!

Why did you do it so quickly though? I'm thinking going slower will give you more time to enjoy the sights

Afolavid:
About 2 months ago, I embarked on the longest road trip in my life, it was a Solo trip (Alone!). I drove from Eastern Canada to the West Coast via the Trans Canada Highway. This trip is over 5000km and it's 3days if you drive nonstop (takes a week with normal driving), this is about the distance from Nigeria to U.K, the amazing part.? I did it in 3 days - fastest ever possible!!!

On one of those days, I drove for over 15hours in the 24hours I had to myself. The Mind-blowing part is, I was physically present in 4 provinces in a single day (Manitoba > Saskatchewan > Alberta > British Columbia) and I changed timezones three times on that day while driving. I learnt a lot on this trip, I saw the vastness of this amazing country and I realized I'm actually tougher than I used to think.

I had an encounter with a Black bear on the 3rd day. Too many gist, too many videos, too many pics, It's overwhelming! The trip is daring and dangerous especially for a lone driver and it feels endless. Would I do it again? Most likely!

#gbam! Finally I found someone.

Just wanted to know if to redirect my efforts in this job search. Thank you, I'll continue my applications.
Merci

AyabaS:

Don’t let anyone discourage you please. I am a PR, I I haven’t been in Canada for up to 3 years and I’ve been working with the FG for over 2 years. When it was time for security clearance, I didn’t have to do anything other than fill a form. It took about 2 months for my clearance to be issued, it wasn’t a big deal at all.

No interviews, I have only been applying.

I know it takes quite some time for these kind of jobs, but I just want to be sure I'm not wasting time and energy.

Thank you. I guess I'll continue *phew

MayorOfEdmonton:
Hi,

A question for you- So is it that you’re planning to apply to FG jobs or u have interview pending already.

I have a friend that works with Federal government(CRA) & some friends working with provincial government (Finance Division). They didn’t need to do any elaborate security checks from Nigeria I think.
I imagine the CBSA security checks during PR processing should be enough. They only needed to do criminal background check from RCMP, & it’s not only government jobs that require this.

Another angle- PRs can now join Canadian Armed Forces if qualified. There’s no condition of ‘pending security clearance from home country in the requirements’ before they can be employed. I imagine CAF should have stricter security concerns. Just saying.

Cheers

Thank you. I had thought all of these roles require the security clearance. I'll look through more closely.

olalekan9320:

Apart from CCIS, you can get any FG job. Security clearance depends on the role though especially those that has to do with some information and some of them require 5 years stay in Canada but it's often in the job description so if it isn't there, apply!
Travel / Re: Living In Canada/Life As A Canadian Immigrant Part 2 by Llaye: 9:32pm On Dec 09, 2023
Hello everyone,

Please does anyone know of a Nigerian here who works with the Canadian Federal Government as a Permanent resident?

I ask because I know that to work with the FG as a non-citizen of Canada, a security clearance is required from your home country. And I recently learnt that the Nigerian govt never responds to the security clearance request. Someone I know says he was turned down at the interview stage when they learnt he's Nigerian and they gave him the reason "it's very difficult getting security clearance done for Nigerians" but this was many years ago.

I've tried to ask around and haven't been able to find anyone who knows a Nigerian who's successfully done it recently. Those I found had become Canadian citizens before getting into the FG jobs.

So I'm starting to believe the guys who say it may be a worthless venture applying to those roles as a PR with Nigerian citizenship. *phew

So maybe IRCC made an error and didn’t list updated POF. But please include it all the same. They’ll most likely ask for it later on and that will delay your PPR

dabyem:
Hello Good morning,

Please at what point will ircc request for an updated pof for a family of 2?.

A little context; so I recently notified ircc of my marriage and they sent an email listing all the documents we have to submit. However, in the email, nowhere does it state we have to submit updated pof.

Will they request for it at a later date or is it just assumed that we should attach it?

Meanwhile what is happening to the exchange rate 🤕🤕

Maybe do ND and BTech would be better. It would give you points for two or more certificates. (ND and HND may give you two or more certificates also, but not sure about the HND)
dvdami:
I have read the recent discussions on this thread about WES evaluation.

I would like to ask for your best advise on which of my academic certificates to evaluate.

I have ND, HND and B.Tech.

ND - 2004 to 2006
HND - 2007 - 2009
B.Tech (HND to B.Tech conversion through Jamb DE) - 2017 - 2019

The B.Tech was for 2 calendar years but 3 academic years were done within that period (300L to 500L)

Considering the timeline of the certificates, which combination should I evaluate with WES that will give me the highest CRS score possible for me?

For this trip you should have four stamps:
exiting Nigeria
entering Benin
exiting Benin
entering Nigeria
If you don’t have at least one of these stamps, there is no proof at all that you went into another country, so leave it out. If you have any, then you can include it and write the LOR

Good day, I went on a road trip with friends to cotonou this year. I showed my national ID card at seme border. The police just smiled at us and told us to proceed. Post ITA I have to scan all passport pages because of travel history. Should I attach LOE to my application, stating I used my national identity card? Or just leave it like that since I didn't use my passport.

Please hire a Canadian immigration lawyer.
It’s always risky providing information that wasn’t asked of you so giving details of why he included you as married in his application may actually cause you more problems. I’m not sure the EE application asks anything about who you applied with. All they ask is that you declare any refusals.

Plus, it’s not your name on that application. He wrote your first name and his surname e.g Ravissante Femme, but your own name is Ravissante Partenaire. They are not the same person.
And he could have been married to another woman at the time he applied to America. will you be worried about not disclosing that?

A lawyer is additional cost, but it’ll save you plenty of worry.

But if na me, I’ll do as you originally thought to do: Apply single, get married after AOR and then add him as a dependant.

Let him answer questions truthfully
Q- were you ever refused a visa
A- YES
Q- provide details
A- I was refused a US study visa in 2021 and 2022. No detail or explanation was given for the refusal
(America no dey give reasons on why they refuse you)

Finish.
Risky yeah, but my mind carry am.
For you, please get professional help

Ravissante:
Good day everyone, please i need advice on the issue below:

I have received ITA, passed Medicals and also done biometrics. My fiancee and I have our court wedding scheduled for sometime in June 2023 after which, i am to update/inform IRCC of the change in my marital status and then include him as an accompanying spouse.

The issue now is he had, in 2021 and 2022, applied to US for school and was refused VISA both times. Unfortunately, he had put in the second time(in 2022) that he was married to me and provided my name (i.e First name, second name and his surname) in a bid to show home ties.

I feel this may constitute an issue as i entered the pool in NOV 2022 as a single lady (rightly so as i was and am still unmarried) and this misrepresentation may be known to them when running their background check on previously visa denials.

Can anyone who has been in this situation or has an advice for this help with how this can be handled?

Travel / Re: USA Visit Visa Part 4 by Llaye: 10:38am On May 22, 2023
The US guys mostly don’t look at your statement of account during interviews. But if they do, they’ll be looking at the inflows (money coming in) and the account balance.
If your parents are sponsoring your trip, then you shouldn’t write self. Self is for when you’ll be paying for the trip

LawyerBB:
Please I filled my ds -160 myself but going through people's interview story, I truly want to know what they mean by 'statement of account'?
Are they demanding to know if the account has been receiving millions since this year or they want to check the balance?
Secondly,I filled 'self' because it will be my parents that would sponsor, is there anything wrong with what I did?

I had this confusion as well. But I discovered you can submit your passport at any DHL office listed on their website. In Lagos, it’s Surulere, VI or Isolo. Submission for IW dropbox is not at Walter Carrington.

However she must pickup at the DHL office she chose which is shown as Muri Okunola on your attachment

lorladeh:
hello everyone. My mom got an interview waiver for her US visa application, but on the appointment confirmation given to her, there were 2 details there. the first one says consular appointment details at Walter Carrington, while the second one says document delivery info at DHL Muri Okunola. We are now confused. If she has an interview waiver, does she still have to go to Walter Carrington or should she just drop her docs at DHL. Also, she was given a date of July 18. Does this mean that she needs to drop her docs at DHL before the 18th?

Thanks a lot
Travel / Re: USA Visit Visa Part 4 by Llaye: 8:12pm On May 19, 2023
The quote you put up is just asking if you’ve lost any passport since you got your last US visa. If you have all your passports with you, then you answer Yes to the question.
Having a passport in between doesn’t disqualify you from using Dropbox.

My last visa was in an old passport and I only submitted that and my current passport. The DHL lady refused to accept my in-between passport since there was no US visa in it.

Jomonix:

The passport in-between doesn't exist. I guess that disqualify one from using the Dropbox. Thanks for the feedback

Ohk. Understood now.

Thanks.

Profgordons:
To bring a perspective to it, it was “morally wrong”. The New comer in that video is not the class of people food bank is meant for. If you have a Car and can legally drive, you have no business with a food bank. When relocating you are meant to have some settlement funds, let’s assume this wasn’t existent, it means you already lied about your finances and there could be a legal side to it if properly investigated.
Also, the recording was secretly carried out, none of the people in the video knew they were being recorded. It could be interpreted in various ways, legally or morally but you can be sure who would be at a disadvantage.

Travel / Re: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Worker Program - Connect Here Part 11 by Llaye: 11:19am On Mar 20, 2023
Ok thanks. I understand the recording without consent part. (even though in most countries, you don’t need permission to record or photograph people in public places, not sure what the law is in Canadian)

I’m really more interested in the food bank visit. Why is it wrong to use the food bank as newcomers to Canada?

ciwi:

It seems like the workers in the video were not aware that they were being recorded. If that is the case, this exposes them (the YouTubers) to possible legal action, like a lawsuit, because it’s an invasion of their privacy to not just make a video of them, but also upload it on YouTube without their consent. I, for one, will not like to be recorded at work or anywhere without my knowledge or consent. That’s my own observation
Travel / Re: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Worker Program - Connect Here Part 11 by Llaye: 10:31am On Mar 20, 2023
Please guys, I’m interested in understanding why that youtube video is wrong. This is a genuine question, can some just help explain. Is it legally wrong or socially wrong? I watched some parts of the video and they said there was nothing illegal about it and they had registered online. I’m asking so I can be educated.
Travel / Re: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Worker Program - Connect Here Part 11 by Llaye: 10:54pm On Mar 15, 2023
I believe ednut is right. Keeping the scores high to achieve what?? Many people join the pool everyday and get high scores without French. There are people with job offers inside and outside Canada, people with Canadian education etc.

It’s obvious they’re trying to switch focus to PNP though. And they’ve made several announcements about that. I think we’ll see fewer FSW draws until they eventually begin implementing the Bill C-19.

Timmypaul:
Bro let be realistic, ircc are giving priority to bilingual, the bilingual are those with high scores together with those with Canadian experience. They are kinda forcing people with below 490 to provincial nomination. It’s as simple as that.
Travel / Re: Canadian Express Entry/Federal Skilled Worker Program - Connect Here Part 11 by Llaye: 10:45pm On Mar 15, 2023
Tough, but I’ll say accept the ITA.

Of course your wife can go with your son, and then you begin the process for you to join them.

If you think you can afford to wait a bit longer for another draw, you can decline. Bear in mind the next draw (FSW) may not come for another month, or even later. Or never, if they switch to the occupations in demand draws in Spring like they announced earlier.

saskatoonguy:

We have stayed long in this Process, we cannot take any chance anymore.

Na wa oo. I’m surprised that people are oppressed by IELTS scores of others posted here.

@piekna3, you don’t need a remark. Because with a 7.5 score, you have the maximum points possible for that section. The CRS calculator groups 7.5 - 9 together for Writing. I hope this helps.
