Chapter 31

Sam walked back to her to her bed with one of her hands on her head. She was feeling very dizzy and she had a horrible headache. it was also making her feel nauseous.

Her head started pounding any time she tried to remember things or events, it was like trying to see through thick dense fog.

The Doctors had said she was trying too hard, the gaps in her memory would eventually return when they were ready to. She was putting herself under too much stress by trying too hard to remember.

Due to the amnesia and the knock on her head, they said she might also display unusual behaviour that might be different to the norm for her.

The PTSD they had diagnosed was keeping her up at night, she wasn't sleeping at all, any time she closed her eyes she experienced the flashbacks that took her back to Tokyo airport, where everything got replayed in brilliant technicolour. The bomb went off again and again in her head every time she closed her eyes.

She breathed a sigh of relief when she got back to her room, she poured herself a glass of water and decided to rest as she got on her bed.
Auntie Lara, Yomi's Mum had left an hour ago to rest and cook her up something hot and spicy, as far as she was concerned the bland food wasn't helping her situation, she need pepper.

She needed her own Mother she thought, she had never seen her Mum ever since she had dumped her, when she was aged 5.

Right now she needed someone to lash out to, someone who she could really reveal herself to, without pretending that everything was fine. Without having to box in her real feelings and emotions due to a sense of obligation. The obligation of gratitude.

She needed someone who would do that for her and comfort her, she wished she could have that. She had always acted like the perfect daughter, she had always done what was expected of her since the two families had taken her in.

All she wanted right now, was the hugs and comfort of her mum, for her to lie beside her and comfort her and tell her that everything was going to be OK.

She had been dreaming about her a lot, but her face was always blurred out in a funny way.
She had seen the two of them repeatedly at a beach playing and watching the dolphins swim. It triggered a deep memory from her childhood that she had buried deep down in the recesses of her brain a long time ago.

She had never found out who her father was either, the feeling of loss and lack of closure made her weepy.

She turned on her bed and picked up the television remote from the side table, to find something interesting to watch.
Before Aunty Lara had left she had berated Sam on her appearance, she had moaned that just because she was in hospital did not mean she should not brush her hair and add some gloss to her lips.

Sam had rolled her eyes at her.

She hinted that there were some nice looking Doctors around that she had noticed and who knows what might happen, staring at her mischievously.

Sam rolled her eyes at her 'Aunty this is not one of those Doctor shows that you watch where they stare soulfully into each other's eyes this is real life. Such things don't happen.'

Before she left, she had forced Sam to get her natural hair in a decent state, without looking like Medusa and she had put on the prescribed lip gloss.

Sam was busy flicking through the channels when she noticed the most adorable hunk of a black man standing hesitantly at the door. She unconsciously looked around the room, thinking he could not be coming to see her, rather someone else in the room.

He was at least 6'2 with very manly broad shoulders, and um,um, um, those shoulders were to die for OMG. His biceps, oh lawd they were sexy and strong.

He was wearing a tight black t-shirt that did a lot for that manly chest, the t-shirt hugged a long lean hard torso. His bottom half was encased in black jeans, this guy definitely needed to come in and speak to her and not whoever he was going to see.

Her headache pounded harder as her eyes slid down to his lunch box, she had to stop her appraisal of that piece of his anatomy when the man said Hi.

'Em Hi' Sam replied, as she tore her gaze away, and slowly moved it up to his face.

'Who are you looking for?' Sam asked.

The hunk took a couple of steps into the room and she noticed he had a very desirable and delectable backside, very nice to hold onto...

She brought herself up short regarding her carnal thoughts, when she remembered the doctors saying she might exhibit strange behaviour for a while. This was strange or was it?

Mmm, she could not help but admire him, who ever his personal trainer was she wanted to meet him.

She shifted her focus back to the TV. She expected him to leave anytime soon, she wasn't expecting any visitors.

'Hi Sam', the hunk said as he took a few more steps into the room.

'Do I know you?' as she quickly pulled up the sheets to cover herself properly using it as a shield for any verbal onslaught about to drop.

'Sam, it's me Remi' the hunk replied.

She had never seen him before, damn she said to herself she should have made an effort to look better if she knew she would be entertaining this prized specimen of manhood in her room.

'My Mum's name is Remi' she replied.

'I don't know who you are' she said, a look of confusion on her face.

The hunk sighed as a sad look came into his eyes 'Do you remember Matt?' he asked looking at her.

Sam put her hands to her head as the pounding increased in severity, 'No' she whispered.

'What are those names meant to mean to me?' she asked the man.

'My head hurts' she said as she lay back on the bed, she closed her eyes and the image of the man setting off the bomb came unbidden.

She screamed and started crying.

She heard the stranger drop his stuff on the table and felt him take her in his arms and comfort her.

That's what broke her, as she inhaled the smell of his aftershave, it made her feel protected and safe, as she sobbed into his shoulder. He kept on soothing her, his hands on her hair while rocking her gently and whispering in her ear, that it was alright.

A nurse quickly ran into the room, alerted to Sam's distress having heard her scream. She moved in on her and checked her vitals.

'She is getting flash backs' the nurse turned to Remi. She was close to the detonation as she had tried to reason with the man not to set off his vest.' she continued. 'I will be outside if you need me.' she said to Remi as she walked out of the room.

Sam detangled herself from the stranger and laid back on her bed. The hunk pulled up a chair next to her bed and held her hand, as he stroked it gently.

She turned her head his way.

'Who are you? Sam asked.

Literature › Re: The Auction by Lleigh(op):
Chapter 18

Linda opened her eyes and took in her surroundings. The air was still and stifling, she took in a deep breath and realised that she was lying on a thin mattress. She looked around and she remembered where she was, but not how she got onto the mattress.

What day was it?

How many days had she been held captive by Charles?

Everything had all blended and blurred into one big fog of pain and humiliation.

He had played back the video of her with the three men again and again, mocking her and giving her a running commentary on the comments people had posted about her performance on the site where he had posted the video.

She moved around on the bed as she tried to orient herself to her surroundings. Her neck felt exposed as she touched her it, something was missing but she couldn’t put her finger on it as she looked around her.

She tried to get up from where she was lying down, she got up to move when she realised she was no longer in the Orangery room that was filled with the roses.
She had been moved into a room with similar proportions to a small cell. The tiny thin mattress she was lying on had been placed along one wall, a few steps away from where she was sitting, she noticed that there was a metal toilet with a shower head attached a few feet above the toilet seat.

She moved to go to the toilet when she realised that her ankle was still shackled to the floor. She got up and tried to pull the chain again, but to no avail. Then she realised why her neck had felt exposed and odd, her hair. Where was her hair? She raised her hand over her head and realised everything had been shorn off.

She started crying again, this time in anger.

How dare he?

Who the hell did he think he was, as she tried to pull the chain from the bolt on the floor.
She gave up pulling when the chains started chaffing her palms as she winced in pain. She was going to get out of here, one way or the other, she thought to herself.

Charles’s games had to stop.

This isn't a game, a voice in her head told her.

She looked around the room again and noticed a door, someone had placed the two dog bowls she had noticed in the Orangery there by the door.

How long ago was that? When had she arrived here to help Charles with his catering?

How long had she been in the room, she wandered to herself. She still couldn't remember being led into the room.

How did she get here? kept going round and round in her head, like a special mantra.

She could see that there was some kind of dry food in one bowl and water in the other.

Looking at the water and food made her realise that she was extremely thirsty and hungry. Her stomach growled loudly making her aware of how hungry she really was.

She stood up to get a feel of her surroundings, there was just enough length in the chain to get her to the toilet and the dog bowls by the door, she couldn’t touch the door, no matter how much she tried.

The other wall in the room, which was opposite the wall where the bed had been placed, looked into the Orangery, but she couldn't reach the wall to bang on it to get the attention of the two men sitting in there.

She hadn't seen either one of them before. A big white fat man and another light skinned man were in there talking, she noticed that there was a table set up in front of them, similar to ones used by doctors to examine women she noticed that there were two leg restraints hanging off the table.

A machine that had various knobs with lights blinking on and off, had been placed near them on another table.

They must have heard or noticed something as she saw them stand up and walk over to the wall near where she was standing. The light skinned man pressed something and the wall moved upwards, supported by the hidden tracks that had been incorporated into the wall.

The sweet and fragrant smell of the roses assaulted her senses, she tried to move, but was quickly reminded of her inability to do so as she felt the pull of the chain on her ankle.

‘Who are you’ she said, as she moved back to the comfort of the mattress.

‘Where is Charles?’ Linda asked, turning towards the light skinned man.

‘He isn’t here at the moment Linda’ the man replied.

For a second Linda could swear that the unknown man she was staring at sounded exactly like Charles.

Linda looked at him closely, under different circumstances, he was what you would call handsome and beautiful at the same time. His face defied description, all she could say was that for a man he was exceedingly handsome. He immediately made her aware of her na$ked state.

His skin had an ethereal glow to it, it enthralled you to such an extent that you just wanted to touch the skin to see if it was real.

Such beautiful skin was wasted on a man, but he carried it very well.

He could pass for a mixed race man or a very light skinned Nigerian man, Linda thought to herself. His face reminded her of…yes that was it he looked angelic and caring.

‘Are you brothers?’ she asked, as she looked at him again, confused.

This man sounded like so much like him.

‘Why did he have to cut off my hair, I am going to…’ she cried.

‘I am not here, to answer your questions Linda. Let me introduce you to the Doctor.’ She was now sure that the voice was the same as Charles voice.

The emphasis on the word Doctor, made her heart skip a beat.

Who in the name of hell was he?

‘Peter, as you are aware I do believe she has a host of nasties growing exponentially between her legs, I just need you to confirm my fears’ he said, as he looked at the Doctor.

‘Please run your tests and let me know what you find.’

‘I also want these on her Peter, when you finish your exam.’ The light skinned man pulled a box out of his pocket.

The way he said that made Linda shiver, the white man was rubbing his hands in excitement, it was obvious that he could not wait to get on with what he was going to do.

‘Linda’, the light skinned man turned to her.

‘I know how much you like your jewellery. You were always showing off to your friends the latest trinkets that you had charmed off your sugar daddies. I am going to give you some of your very own.’

‘I am sure you do want to add mine to your list don’t you’ he said.

She watched him as he walked towards one of the black rose bushes in the room and inhaled the scent.

‘Lovely’, he said, as he picked up a pair of garden shears and cut a stem. He turned around holding a very exquisite black rose and stared back at her.

Linda now knew without a doubt that whoever this man was, had to be Charles or Lucien.

Whoever either man was.

The man she knew as Charles had a prominent scar on his face, maybe Charles and this man were twins? The thoughts barraging her mind thick and fast.

Lucien why did that name sound so much like Lucifer?

‘Ah yes, your jewellery….’ He murmured, as he looked up from his rose.

‘Peter I want these two rings on her ni!!ples.’

‘This one is to go on her cl%it, then these six rings are to go on her outer lips three on each side.’ He said, as he stared at Linda.

‘I have a nice gold and diamond chain I want to loop through all those rings.’ He said, as he smiled at her.

‘Imagine that Linda, you will be dripping in gold and diamonds’ as he continued to sniff the black rose and walked towards where she was standing.

‘All the stuff you bragged about to your friends. You certainly are living the high life here on Banana Island don’t you think’ he said.

‘Which reminds me I must send a message to your friend Ngozi, we have been having some very illuminating chats’ as he studied his rose.

He stopped in front of her ‘don’t you just love it, Linda, the rose is a thing of beauty and mystery. I bet you don’t even know what the black rose symbolises’ he said, as he stroked the petals.

His voice combined with the stroking motion of his hands on the petals which helped releasing the heady fragrance was very hypnotic.
Linda found herself mesmerised by his voice.

‘Peter’, he said as he turned to the Doctor breaking the spell.

‘Give her some shots so that the piercings don’t become infected. I don’t want her indisposed for a long period of time. She has duties to perform this weekend’

Linda tried to tug on the chain one more time, she needed to get out of here. Hoping and praying that by some miracle that she would be able to pull it loose and run out of the room.

Please someone, please come and get me out of here o, she cried to herself.

‘Linda oh, Linda why are you crying’ Lucien said to her, pity and menace in his eyes.

Only a person named Lucien could be this mad, she thought to herself.

‘Are you afraid of the pain? Lucien said.

‘You shouldn’t be afraid, you need to embrace it Linda, get to understand what it feels like. Get to understand what pain really feels like Linda’ he said, as he stroked her cheeks.

The incongruous gesture at odds with the current situation she found herself in. The look on his face was like a father trying to comfort a distressed child.

‘How do you feel Dotun’s baby felt when you threw it away like a piece of trash after giving birth to the young boy?’ he whispered in her ears.

‘How do you think he felt Linda? You never answered my question the few times I asked you, did you? The menace in his voice was now obvious.

‘Yet you cry to God all the time to save you’ he chortled, as a loud laugh escaped from his lips.

‘Oh Linda you do make me laugh’ as tears of mirth ran down his cheeks.

‘Oh God please help me’ he said, as he mimicked her voice to perfection. While he stared at her, the angelic beautiful face at odds with the menace in his eyes.

Linda stared at him, she could only come to one illogical conclusion, that the man standing in front of her was the devil himself.

Who else in the world would name a child Lucien?

He walked away from her and placed the black rose on the examining table the Doctor seemed itching to use.

‘I shall now retire to my study, Peter, enjoy yourself with her. The condoms are in the fridge’ he said as he turned to the Doctor on his way out.

‘Linda enjoy the rose, by the way it symbolises death. Maybe you can think about what the red one symbolises while you receive your piercings’ he said as he walked out of the room.

To the readers of 'The Auction'

We are about to enter a very dark part in this piece of work. Some people might find it too hard to read, I apologise.

What you will read is nothing that isn't currently happening around us, that you haven't read in the news or even on the Crime section here on Nairaland.

One thing I do appreciate about writing on here is the discussion going on in the comments after every post. I appreciate this and I thank you.

On a lighter note if it becomes too dark, please remember 'The Club' is accepting new members cheesy'

the next update is going to drop shortly.

Dedicated to ALL readers of the club

Three months later.

Remi looked at the clock on the wall opposite his desk, it was already 7pm. Where had the day gone, he thought as he ran his hands through his hair, he was tired and exhausted. Unfortunately all the issues that had arisen while he was away had not been resolved or acted upon in his absence. No one wanted to risk making the wrong decision so everything had been left for him to deal with upon his return.
There was a hell of a lot to do and finish, he thought to himself.

In a way he had been grateful for the full on work, as it had helped keep his mind away from the mess he was currently in.

He needed to catchup on all his paperwork and emails before he went away again for the weekend in New York.

The last time he had been there, Sam had been very groggy she had been coming in and out of consciousness, unaware of her surroundings. According to Yomi's Mum she was now making progress. She had started eating properly and had been asking if there was a gym in the hospital, that definitely was a sign that she was getting better. He had been warned that her memory hadn't fully recovered, there were still some things she could not remember.

He raked his hands through his hair as his eyes dropped to the brown envelope lying on his desk. it contained the results of the prenatal paternity test he had requested from Mercy.

He had finally gone to see her two days after he and Bayo arrived back in Nigeria.
Bayo had recovered from his fall with no visible complications, apart from the scar on his face which had suddenly turned him into a babe magnet. The air hostesses had fawned all over him on the way back home, so much so, that they had upgraded the two of them. It was a shame that such a gesture was wasted on Bayo, he had accepted the phone number the lady had slipped into his hand with suaveness and aplomb of a seasoned playboy.

He had hesitated at her gate wondering how he was going to handle the situation he currently found himself in. The baby might not be his he thought, they were meant to be friends with benefits. However, the last couple of times they had been together, there had been a few mishaps that he himself was ready to attest to.

However, the fact that she had started going all clingy on him, even before the scare, had made him contemplate on whether he should continue to see her again. Life was definitely full of complications, he thought to himself as he drove into her compound.

He got out of his car, locked it and knocked on her door.

In another life, Mercy ticked all the boxes of what he had thought he wanted in a woman.

Mercy was very pretty, he could not take that away from her, she was roughly 5'9, very light skinned, with 36 D bosoms that just made you stare at them instead of anywhere else. She wasn't thin, but she was what he would describe as voluptuous, she had a reasonably small waist, wide hips and a nice bum.
She was very attractive, but for some reason at this current moment in time, it did nothing for him.

He heard the keys turning in the door and the door opened.

She stood there looking a bit pale and tired, which had nothing to do with the fact that she wasn't wearing make up.

'Hi Remi, please come in' she said, as she opened the door wider for him to step in.

He walked into her living room and sat down, sprawling on the chair with his hands on his head as he watched her.

'Can I get you anything to drink Remi?' she asked him, as she hovered around his chair.

'I will have some water, thanks' he replied.

He watched as she walked into her kitchen, sh!t he thought to himself.

She came back into the living room and placed the glass of water on a stool. He watched her, as she took a seat opposite him in her living room.

'Mercy are you ok?'
'Are you sure you are pregnant?' he asked her.

'Remi I have done the test three times. You do remember the last couple of times we were together we had a few mishaps' she said, as she played with the hem of her dress.

'I want to have an abortion, actually I am going to have one.'
'I was in a state of shock and panic when I sent you that message, don't worry. I will not be saddling you with a child' she said, looking down at her dress.

Remi hesitated, he was being given a get out of jail card here. Relief washed over him as he heard those words from Mercy about the abortion. He had initially thought she wanted to use the pregnancy as a ruse for emotional blackmail, but it seemed she wasn't willing to keep the baby anyway.

Suddenly out of nowhere, he heard a voice in his head say 'Nothing is coincidence, embrace the lessons' while he was staring at Mercy.

'Mercy that's our baby you're talking about, it would be a bit hasty for you to make such a unilateral decision.' he said, looking at her in the face and holding her gaze.

He had blurted that out on impulse, it wasn't what he had planned on saying to her.
He hoped that the softly, softly, approach would help diffuse the tense situation they were currently in.

He didn't want her to do anything rash.

'Remi I don't want a baby right now and it doesn't fit in with my plans or schedule' she said, as she played with her hair.

'Plus I don’t want the stigma of being a baby mother.'
'Not that it matters these days, but it matters to me' she said, staring at him defiantly.

Remi took in her words, there was no way he would marry Mercy even if the baby turned out to be his. Maybe, before the events of the the last few weeks he might have considered it but now, it was totally out of the picture.

Mercy was a party girl and had never worked a day in her life, as far as he could tell. How she managed to keep herself in such a place was anyone's guess.

They had met and became friends through a mutual acquaintance at a party. Her physical attributes had initially blinded him to the fact that, intelligent discourse wasn't her forte.

'Do you want to get married then? Remi asked, staring at her.
