Tunde watched the countryside go by as they drove along the expressway to Owerri, deep in thought.

Tunde wished his driver would go a bit faster, isn’t there any quicker route he asked his driver as it seemed they had been driving for ever.

‘Oga, this is the fastest and safest way for us to go, Sir. We will be there soon’ as he continued driving.

The driver had said the same sentence to him three times already, but he decided to keep quiet.

He was on his way to Linda’s parents’ home, she had been quite tearful the last time he spoken to her on the phone. She didn’t think her Father would make it, he had been diagnosed with cancer.

She must have been very distraught because when he had asked her if she needed any financial assistance, she had said no.

‘Linda baby, are you ok? You sound very tearful’ he said into the phone.

‘Oh Tunde, my Father is very ill, they think it is cancer. We need to take him to another hospital’ as she sobbed down the phone.

‘Do you need me to send some money to you, baby, I am sorry to hear that’

‘I am ok on that front, thank you. It’s just a lot for me to take in’ she said.

‘I will speak to you tomorrow’ she said as she ended the call.

He had heard the anguish in her voice, which was why he had lost it with Enitan when he had received the email with the video.

It was obvious that it had been doctored, who did Enitan think she was kidding. She wanted to get back at him and Linda. Well she would have to deal with it, with him being with Linda.

He didn’t even know why Enitan bothered, he had not been near her sexually for over two years and he certainly wasn’t interested in her anymore. If she stayed she could continue cooking for him and Linda, Enitan was a very good cook.

He was allowed two wives if he wanted and if she couldn’t take it she could leave. She had already asked for a divorce, so it did not bother him good riddance he thought.

He had been speaking to Linda every day, ever since she had gone to see her sick Father, she was the one who had suggested that he come down and see her as she missed him a lot.

He had felt touched when she said that, hence why he was making the journey from Lagos to Owerri to see her. He had kept the flat she stayed in, in good shape for her eventual return.

Tunde reminded himself that he needed to go and see his Doctor, he had noticed that he was getting very tired and forgetful recently.

It could be the stress at work, he thought to himself. Most Nigerian companies were going through a lot of turmoil due to the current economic uncertainty.

He put a reminder in the phone to call the Doctor and book an appointment for a check-up.

Two hours later they arrived at Linda’s parents’ house. He knocked on the door and a middle aged woman opened the door.

‘Good afternoon, Sir’ she said, from the half opened door.

‘Good afternoon Ma’ Tunde said. ‘I am here to see Linda. I hope her Father is recovering well?’ he said.

Confusion appeared on the woman’s face, as she opened the door a bit wider.

‘Linda isn’t here. We have not seen her eye to eye since last year.’ The woman continued.

‘I am her Mother’

‘We normally speak to her every week without fail, however since she met her new boyfriend her calls became less frequent’ distress showed on her face.

‘My husband? Linda’s Father passed away a few years ago. God Rest his soul’

‘He will be turning in his grave if he saw…’ she stopped herself.

‘Who are you?.’ Linda’s Mother asked.
