Abak Soup is exactly the same thing as Banga soup. The difference is that in Calabar they add leaves to the soup while in Delta area's they add sticks of spices to the soup and leave it plain. |
mukina2:No, lots of Nigerians and Koreans eat it too. |

KarmaMod:Did you mean Afang or Edikang Ikong soup ? |
They sell large snails at Peckham Rye Lane market. They range from £1.50 to £2.00 each. |
Queenisha:They are very rich in Iron and Calcium contents. They taste wonderful, both with the shell on and without the shell. If you are from the Riverine parts of Nigeria you'll appreciate them, they are in the same sea-food class as Clams and Oysters. |
is there any MacDonalds franchise shop in Nigeria yet ? |
I have actually prepared Moi Moi using a newspaper. The newspaper is folded into a cone shape and the liquidised beans is poured into it. Interestingly, it does not spill out or get burnt because sticks are laid at the bottom of the pot. |
Calabar men cook better than men from other parts of Nigeria and even much better than most Yourba women( who always think that boiling tomatoes with pepper is soup). |

The dogs are brought down from the pick-up van in a cage. One- by one each dog is snared out of the cage and hit on the back of the head with a pestle. When the dog is sub-conscious it is quickly killed. this method is preferred to the alternative of trying to fix a stick in between the mouth of the dog before killing it. The dogs used are normally the local dogs (the one's you would normally call "Billy" or "whisky" in your neighbourhood). The dog meat is then carefully cut up according to its marketing components. There are parts of the dog known as the Gear Box,Telephone wire, etc and they are under very high demand. Dog meat has lots of natural oil. After it has been cut up and diced into small chunky pieces it goes into a giant boiling pot (cauldron), Ntong leaf is added with lots of pepper and Ogogoro is normally added to the cooking. It is served with White rice (the stock of the dog meat serves as the sauce) or just with Unripe plantain and Palm wine. The meat is very very delicious and addictive. Dog meat is also eaten in parts of Plateau state (Birom) and in Southern Zaria (Kachia,Kagoro,Kanfanchan, etc) although they roast their Dog meat instead of cooking/boiling it the Calabar way. Saturdays in Calabar is the main day Dog meat is being sold and lots of visitors do conquer their curiousity and demolish large portions of dog meat in various locations on a weekly basis. |
