OTEDOLA is a trained YORUBA man, respect for elders is paramount
He drew blood. The weeks ahead would be interesting ...here

In this exclusive interview, Otedola breaks that silence.

Nairametrics: When you made your investment, First HoldCo was carrying legacy challenges that eventually culminated in the record impairment losses reported in 2025. Was there any point during that period when you questioned your investment thesis, or were you always confident the bank would emerge stronger?

Otedola: First Holdco Plc was an institution on the brink. Before 2021, First Bank of Nigeria — the country’s oldest and once most trusted financial institution — stood at a genuine crossroads. Years of weak governance oversight had allowed unethical practices to take root at the highest levels of the organisation, culminating in a period where the institution’s stability was in serious question.

The bank’s loan book had deteriorated to the point where over ₦2 trillion in bad loans sat on its balance sheet — a burden compounded by a culture of recalcitrant and delinquent debtors who treated the institution as an outlet to exploit, obtaining credit facilities with little or no intention of repayment. The Central Bank of Nigeria found the bank’s capital position so compromised, and its governance failures so severe, that the institution stood on the verge of regulatory takeover to protect its over 30 million customers and minority shareholders.

In a decisive intervention, the CBN dissolved the entire board of First Bank and its holding company, citing breaches of regulatory directives, unresolved insider exposures, and a leadership transition executed without due process or regulatory approval.

If Aradel should start having problems, these your fine adjectives will change overnight.
As a downstream company, Investors were also praising Oando when it was declaring N2-N4 dividend and bonus up to around 2012.

They both are in the upstream sector.

Oando started struggling as upstream company, apparently because of inexperience and lack of full knowledge of the challenges and intricacies of the industry. That is very poor, an indictment and indication of incompetence of the management. They seem to be learning as they go, which is very bad enough for investors.
But hopefully the biggest problem (debt finance) will be reduced drastically with a successful fresh capital raise.

The MD/CEOs of Aradel, Seplat etc are people with solid prior experience who had worked for decades for big IOCs like Shell, ENI, Mobil. Addax etc.
But Wale had no such experience. He was probably lured into ''upstream'' by the hype, and fortunes associated with these big players.
You just affirmed that Oando has not been on the ordinary shareholders side since 2012.

But more importantly you affirmed that wale and his team are utterly clueless and incompetent and couldn't even hire competent management....

Finally if I buy any company that goes astray like Oando I'd be gone in a jiffy... My umbilical chord is not tied to any shares.... Na investor I be not family member....as at today my investment have been recouped out of FIRSTHOLDCO.... So whatever is left there is for me to monitor ote$ to the end before bailing...

Oando operates in the upstream only, for now
Complete vertical integration. With competent management and transparency.... No deliberate excessive corporate debt

Are you concerned with the amount of dividend payable to Ote$?
I think SEC and CBN are more concerned with statutory, regulatory and industry compliance. The amount a shareholder receives as dividend is not their worry.

Business life cycle. The format is very well known it involves a pattern of aggressive fund diversion, severe corporate indebtedness, and high-handed management..... If you were of age then you can remember one lawyer like that that ran an airline, insurance company and oil firm into the ground....if not seek people like megawealth01 or peter or mercy to explain the format to you....

Aradel is only comparable to dangote Refinery and seplat, but with the cowboi going to the latter I wouldn't hold my breath

Governance risks the lone key man control is the chief issue with Oando.... And may creep into seplat.... Whereas aradel hasa balanced board and healthy institutional consortium led management and vertically integrated (Refinery, Gas Plant, Upstream) operational focus....
Investment › Re: Nigerian Stock Exchange Market Pick Alerts by londonerr: 11:54am On Aug 01
Aradel and Oando are not in the same sector. One is a complete system with it's own refinery, competent management who have investors in mind. The goals of management is aligned with that of the shareholders.

The other has divergent goals. If break even happens in Oando today....the management might decide to go and acquire another moribund asset elsewhere.... taking deliberate care to deprived the long-suffering ordinary shareholders of their financial benefits.... I don't understand why Oando CEO is the top two best remunerated after MTN Nigeria.... At a time the firm shareholders are doing night vigils.... Profit tanking, share prices plummeting the CEO was busy increasing remuneration by 67%....

My financial advise:
Sell OANDO. No matter how long you travel on the wrong road you'll never get to the desired destination....the earlier you turn back and get on the right lane the better for you.

Even when Oando was running petrol stations I had the worst experience with them in Abuja....

I respect your view, but I think it's too early to conclude JapaulGold has "nothing tangible."

The market isn't pricing only today's earnings—it's pricing future potential. JapaulGold has been repositioning through its mining business, strengthening its balance sheet, and raising capital specifically to execute that strategy. Whether management delivers is what the market will judge over time.

Yes, the stock has speculative elements, but that doesn't automatically make it a bad investment. Many successful growth companies traded on expectations long before their earnings caught up.
Time is money. Japaulgold has nothing to scale up. It's overpriced based merely on speculation. Hope it's not a Ponzi stock... The fact that you're marketing it like it is among an ngx30 turnaround story is exceedingly suspicious.... Again I respect your hustle even though I don't agree

It may not get there... Japaulgold has nothing tangible to scale towards such growth.... It's a pure speculative play. Always consider wider sources for your investment decisions... Some of these firms ought not to be allowed to collect investors funds.... Including Oando

JAPAULGOLD: WHY ₦5 IS NOW A REALISTIC TARGET

With the release of the Q1 & Q2 2026 financial results, JapaulGold has given investors more reasons to believe its mining transformation is progressing.

Why the market is becoming more bullish:

• Mining is now taking shape. The Q2 report disclosed Mining Work-in-Progress, showing that the company is investing in developing its mining assets rather than just holding mining licences.

• Fresh capital is available. The report also confirmed that funds were raised through a Private Placement, giving the company additional working capital to execute its mining plans.

• Subsidiaries are being strengthened. Recent board changes in Japaul Mines & Products Ltd., Japaul Shipping & Offshore Services Ltd., and Japaul Dredging Services Ltd. suggest the company is positioning its businesses for the next phase of growth.

• Corporate governance is improving. The company has strengthened its governance through board committees, ESG oversight, board evaluation and other governance initiatives.

• The balance sheet is stronger. Earlier financial statements showed improved shareholders' funds and net assets, giving the company a stronger financial foundation.

• The mining vision remains on track. Japaul continues to pursue its long-term mining strategy, with ongoing investment and development across its mining assets.

Market Outlook

The stock market prices future expectations. If Japaul continues to execute its mining plans and delivers further progress, the market could continue to revalue the company.

Based on the company's recent progress, a move toward ₦5—and possibly higher over time—appears achievable, provided execution continues and market sentiment remains supportive.

Bottom Line: The Q1 & Q2 2026 results, fresh capital, mining investment, stronger governance and subsidiary restructuring all point in one direction: JapaulGold appears to be moving from planning to execution, giving investors more reasons to stay optimistic.
This is purely better characterized as a bullish, promotional piece that omits the risk warnings, regulatory disclosures, and independent valuation necessary for a professional investment recommendation.... Who's bankrolling you?
