bisiaet:It is very important that you relax yourself when you want to communicate, whether verbally or in writing. Otherwise, what you say or type will be incomprehensible nonsense as is the case in this instance. How does someone "mistakenly fall sick"? Lol. Please, uncle, take it easy, eh? E ma binu. E go better. |
There are literally thousands of Nigerians in hundreds of universities around the world doing wonderful things, but it's important that people do not get carried away with degrees. After all, what's the point of a three degrees if your earning power does not increase exponentially? Really though, academic work is 10% intellect and 90% persistence. |
I don't really like being bombarded with calls; at the same time, I don't like to feel like I'm not getting called enough -- so it's all about balance. Also, don't try and use sex as a tool to punish me because, really, I will just go and get it outside. Lastly, do not even think of cheating. |
This is not surprising in any way. Attending university in Nigeria is not a serious way to gain post-secondary education. |
Is this thread a joke? |
Jonathan is daft. He does realise that Nigeria's educational system is in the toilet because of ineffective leaders like him, right? |
If you are a Nigerian citizen by marriage, birth or naturalisation, or are an offspring of a Nigerian, you are Nigerian. Everything else is philosophical. |
tensor777:Do I strike you as someone who has a problem? If that's the impression you get because I decided to respond to the idiocy you've been spewing then you need to start seeing a therapist. What I concern myself with is not something that is your business. This is not a protracted argument. This is a sonning. An argument implies that both sides come to a debate with a fundamental disagreement about a serious matter. It also implies that both sides have functional brains. You and the other guy, Slyfoxxx, clearly do not. As I have said: you don't know me -- so don't try advising me. I've got it together. With your post counts damn near pushing 2000, you obviously need to shut down your computer, take your dog on a walk and kiss your girlfriend. There's more to life than tapping furiously away at a computer. |
Tony Blair is a nitwit. He does know that it's unethical to interfere in another country's elections, right? It's like as this man progresses in age, he grows dafter. |
Who are these? Like: what do they do? |
slyfoxxjoe:Se you see your life? Se you can see your life now, abi? You're now crying like a baby, telling me about your life and how you're paying for your MBA. F-u-c-k I care about your MBA? Your MBA can kiss my arse. I am not going to get into an argument about who has a better education or who's smarter because this s-h-i-t is like the American Declaration of Independence, it's "self-evident." As I pointed out, you are strutting through life with an IQ that's dangerously low, an analytical prowess that makes a 3-year-old look like a genius and a brain the size of my girlfriend's Chihuahua's left testicle. If this weren't so, you wouldn't choose the side of the debate you've chosen. It's so patently hopeless that it's laughable. The idea that, somehow, referring to Nigeria as "Naija" is the bane of our problems is just outright dumb. You're so daft I am certain that you're pretending. Nigeria's problem is traceable to consequential things like biting corruption, clueless leaders (like Ms. Dora) and substantive issues -- not because I choose to sag my pants on a Friday night, blaze a hydro and sing that I'm a Naija boy. It's daft to hold that view. It's even more daft that you continue defending it whilst moaning that I spend all my time on Nairaland. Fothermucker, you don't know me. Stay in your lane and study for your MBA biaatchhhhh! |
She fell off. |
slyfoxxjoe:The above comment is ironic. A supposed literate saying: "help me ask this illiterates". Nah, mate, people like Ms. Dora are the ones responsible for the state Naija is in today. Clearly, as a Minister, she's confused as to what her job entails. You defend her so stoically I am starting to think she's your mum. If she is, tell her to switch it up. You are obviously going through life with an IQ that's around 0.00879 of a percentage point. If this weren't the case, you'll see that I have attempted to empirically discredit the suggestion that there's a problem with referring to Nigeria as "Naija". I've even compared it to other nationals referring to their native countries by terms reflecting endearment. All you have done is declare that people like me are dumb. When it's you who is obviously strutting around with limited brain power, the analytical strength of retarded raccoon and the IQ of a shoe-lace soaked in water. This isn't vitriol, this is just fact. |
Mate, I said "unless you have a PhD". Perhaps you should read the post again. You know: for someone who attends college in America you're beginning to disappoint me. I don't give two squirts of piss about Dora. She's a snub. Apart from Transparency Int'l, all these awards are essentially pointless. I think that she should focus on substantive policy not nonsense. And you, my friend, need to study harder. |
slyfoxxjoe:Awww. Did I hit a nerve? Bottom line is this: people like you and Ms. Dora are snubs. You think you are better than everybody else. You think that you know what's best for Naija -- note the use of the word -- simply because you attend some obscure college in the U.S. I am not making assumptions about you, I am just calling a spade a spade. You are an elitist snub who thinks saying the word "Naija" automatically means the user is dumb. Unfortunately for you, I see through you, so, once again: f--u--c--k you and Ms. Dora. Saving Naija is not my priority at the moment. I'd leave that to elitist Ministers who can barely contain their contempt for the people they are supposed to be serve. Don't worry about my education slyfoxxjoe. My daddy saw to it that I gained it from solid institutions. But unlike you, I won't tell you where. Mumu oshi. |
I would go so far as to refer to myself as an atheist, but I am definitely agnostic. I simply don't care. These feelings are traceable to the fact that an empirical consideration of what's written in the 'holy' books -- in my opinion -- do not really pass the sniff test. So, I just live my life day to day, trying to stay within the ambit of the law and treating people as fairly as I can. In the end, I think we are most likely worm food; so, I don't really care. |
slyfoxxjoe:Nobody disputes the notion that an educated and innovative workforce is a prerequisite for a strong economy. That, however, is not the issue here. The issue here is divided into two flanks. One: you and other people like "Prof." Dora have a problem with people like us referring to Nigeria as "Naija". Two: you equate the use of that word with illiteracy. On both flanks, you are wrong. Firstly, here has never been anything fundamentally, historically or culturally wrong with referring to where you're from by a term reflecting endearment. Even Pres. Obama has said on TV before that he is from "Chi-town" (Chicago). Secondly, that people use terms of this such is not indicative of their level of education. Obama, for instance, has a JD from Harvard and a BA from Columbia. I use the word "Naij" and unless you have a PhD, it's probably safe to assume that I have a more robust education that you do. And just to piss you off even more, I'd say it: "I'm a Naija boy. Screw you and "Prof." Dora!" |
KenGali:What on earth are you on about? So many words, yet so little substance. |
tensor777:Ah, mumu dey sha. You are certainly entitled to your opinion. However, you are not entitled to you own facts. And the fact is: anybody who is actually connected in anyway to contemporary Nigerian life (who isn’t a member of the political elite, and, thus, far removed from reality) knows that Nigerians have been referring to Nigeria as “Naija” for a long time now. While the heavy use of this phrase is relatively recent, it’s not as if it just started. For Nigerians in Nigeria, it’s probably used in a way to expedite conversation and keep things moving. For Nigerians abroad, it’s mostly used as a term of endearment by which they refer to Nigeria. So, it’s not uncommon to hear people on the streets of England or the U.S., for example, use the word in conversation. (Think: “When you dey go Naija?) Words like “Naija”, “Naij”, “Lasgidi” and “J-town” are obviously used to refer, affectionately, to places Nigerians, home and abroad, feel indelible connection to. Somewhat similar to Jamaicans referring to Jamaica as “Yard” or “J.A.”. Or People from Trinidad & Tobago referring to their home country as “Trini”. To somehow equate this with illiteracy or vagrancy as you do is, quite frankly, idiotic. What exactly is the problem with Nigerians referring to their home nation as "Naija"? When somebody is able to answer this question intelligently, without resorting to senseless obfuscation, we'd take them serious. You know what your problem is? It’s not that you are unintelligent – this is not in doubt. Your problem is that, despite the obvious limitations of your brain, you think you are intelligent – this is your problem. You clearly have limited understanding of Nigerian culture and the Nigerian soul. This is why you would take offence to the fact that people refer to their home nation affectionately as “Naija”. Ironically, people like you, once in the U.S., have no problem with people from South Carolina saying they are from “South Cacchie”, or people from the Brooklyn saying they are from “Brook-nam”, or people from Mississippi saying they are from “Ole Miss”. These terms are essentially terms of endearment. Nothing more, nothing less. And “Prof.” Akunyili obviously gaffed by making this comment. It is condescending, it is bone-headed and it is moronic. In the final analysis, in this country, we actually have more serious concerns. People are worried about real things: how they’ll pay their bills, etc. Nobody cares what some elitist politician thinks. |
Akunyili is being ridiculous. The word is obviously used in most cases as an affectionate way to refer to the homeland. There are many variations. I know a lot of Nigerians that say "Naij", "Naija", etc -- just as some people affectionately refer to Lagos as "Lasgidi". There is nothing offensive about this. Offensive to who? And for a Minister to focus on this is shameful really. It's reflective of how hopeless things are. She's just being a slowpoke. Unfortunately, this is someone's mother. |
Seriously, somebody needs to line all Nigerian leaders up and execute them in cold blood. That this is even a debate is appalling. These are the same people that literally steal billions from the national coffers. |
By and large, indications point to the sense that Sanusi is an able banker with a moderately sound understanding of banking and finance. I think this is where his intellectual prowess is limited to though. He shouldn't attempt deep rationalisation. That s-h-i-t is for people with Ph.D.s. Don't try that s-h-i-t at home. Somebody pointed out that we shouldn't pretend that Northerners haven't always attempted to dominate this "union" we refer to as Nigeria. This is correct. In our bid to pretend as if we are uber-patriotic, we mustn't ignore the fact that the Muslim elite -- the Babangidas, Ciromas et al. -- from up North has always viewed Nigeria has their personal cash-machine to do whatever they deem fit with. For instance, their posturing and game playing to see to it that they snatch the Presidency is apt. (This is not an endorsement of Jonathan though. I personally think he's way out his depth running the country.) Instead of the Muslim-Northern candidates to test their popularity and proposed policies at the ballot, they are huffing and puffing about zoning. How is the notion of zoning even remotely compatible with the notion of democracy which we claim we practice? I find that Sanusi in his "essays" and speeches often skilfully ignores these matters. Rather he proceeds to lecture us on obscure tribal history that, frankly, no one gives three squirts of p!ss about. Until he addresses the reality of Muslim-Northern hegemony, it is difficult for people who actually understand issues to take him serious. People like me cannot get carried away by nonsense couched eloquently. Bullsh!t continues to be bullsh!t regardless of how one dresses it. |
Cram for exams, write sensibly, pass and gain your degree. If it's coursework, do proper research, write a sensible essay, footnote effectively and keep it moving. Nothing dey happen. |
It is physically impossible for a woman to give birth to a snake. Let us not waste too much time and oyinbo on foolishness. |
This guy thinks we are idiots. Neither President Obama nor Prime Minister Cameron earn a million a month. Obama struggles to gross slightly more than half a mill a year, and this monkey, Atiku, is trying to convince us that some American academics with ragtag degrees from shitty universities in the American South are paid a mill a month in an even shittier university in Yola state? Negro puh-lease. What a dunce. Somebody needs to slap this monkey into 2010. He's still in 2009. |
Yorubas do not originate from Mecca. That is a rather unintelligent position to hold. This reveals a painfully obvious lack of knowledge of black history or even black people. How can Yorubas, who are Africans, originate from Mecca when life originated in Africa and people migrated outward? That's just contradictory. Mumu dey sha. |
By all accounts, Obasanjo is a useless man, so I am not convinced that writing a book filled with lies will do anything to rehabilitate his image. This is a man who sleeps with his son's girlfriend for christ's sake. |
I must be losing my motherbleeping mind. Is this thread a joke. We should pray for a man who literally stole depositors' funds? Does the thread-starter know what they refer to as fiduciary duty? This thread is a joke. |
She ain't even hot, but I'd hit. |
I don't even know much about this Asa girl, but the one song I've heard, 'Bibanke', is pretty much grammy material had the production been world class. Further, criticisms levelled against her with respect to the title of her forthcoming album, 'Beautiful Imperfection', is simply ignorant. It betrays a lack of understanding. Literally, as someone pointed out, this is an oxymoron. She's probably trying to get at a message along the line of one being imperfect, yet beautiful. For someone to grasp on to this and then criticise her on that basis is, quite frankly, stupid. Obviously, she's striving for an Indie Arie/neo-soul look, which would explain why she's dressed like this in the above picture. (By the way, she looks like she's got some thick thighs on her. I'd hit!) The idea that, based on her look, she's possibly a lesbian is just as equally stupid. Of course, she could very well be a lesbian. There's nothing wrong with that. Ain't no shame in the game. |
To answer the question in the thread title: "Why the f-u-c-k not?" |
