Cryomancer:People don’t go to university only to get jobs after graduation. A better educated society gets better citizens, and is better governed. |
Imo state which has the highest number of qualified university applicants but who cannot get places in existing universities loses this opportunity. Rochas government Eastern Palm University laying idle in the cooler. |
asha80:Bros, what mind of his own had a state governor, Rochas, who built about 98% of what he thought was development projects only in one senatorial constituency, Owerri? |
Igbo leaders with their easy way out. Oyibo or even Fulani leaders would first provide treated public water supply system for their subjects. Igbo leaders go for where it’s cheaper - roads, because it costs more to provide modern public water supply system, than build roads. Igbo leaders watch their subjects unknowingly consume untreated deadly water from private water boreholes. Since late Mbakwe, only Umahi the governor of Ebonyi state has built surface water supply system which Mbakwe built in four cities in 4 years. |
McStoic:As your Owerri expands and attracts more population from Orlu and Okigwe zones, governments are constrained to build more social infrastructures in Owerri to match the rapidly expanding city. There shall be little or no funds to provide basic development amenities in Orlu and Okigwe zones. Orlu and Okigwe areas shrink and possibly go to extinction. Your Nda Ejiogu, Onwuemeodo and “Olu Owerri” knew this fact as they pushed Ohakim and Okorocha to build mega capital city first in Owerri. Owerri zone has mass education from hosting the tertiary education institutions in Imo state at the exclusion of Orlu and Okigwe zones. With the mass education, people of Owerri pressure and hoodwink every governor of Imo state to become quasi governor of state capital. |
McStoic:Your Ndaa Ejiogu, Sam Onwuemodo, both from Owerri zone, were the henchmen and ideologues of then gov Okorocha when Okorocha government built the flyovers, and later the tunnels were built in Owerri. Together with “Olu Owerri,” they pressured Okorocha with the phrase: “first build Nd’Imo a mega capital city like Dubai, after which future governors shall take care of Orlu and Okigwe areas.” Okorocha who was courting Owerri support for his political empire through building Owerri to Dubai level agreed. You pretend you don’t know of these, abi? The flyovers and tunnels are part of the Dubai city in the making in Owerri. |
Dedetwo:Imo state university was established in Owerri May 1992 by then governor Evan Enwerem from Owerri senatorial district. Abia state university that was once called Imo state university, was established by Mbakwe government in 1981. Do some research before you come online. Stop confusing yourself, there is only one Imo state university today. That’s the Imo state university placed in Owerri on the premises of an abandoned and dilapidated secondary school in the centre of Owerri, whereas there was a better, larger and recently refurbished university premises in Orlu then at the old Bishop Shanahan Training College where AICE Campus was opened but closed shortly after Mbakwe who opened it left office. Enwerem was not supposed to locate Imo state university in Owerri, given the fact that FUTO, Polytechnic Nekede, Alvan Ikoku College of Education were then in Owerri. What happened was that Owerri people told Enwerem not to locate IMSU outside Owerri zone, given the bitter assets sharing process between Imo state and new Abia state then. Owerri people believed that Njaba state would soon be created with Orlu zone as nucleus, so if IMSU got located in Orlu, it’s likely that Owerri might lose IMSU to another new state again. Define primitive greed and parochialism considering what transpired in location of IMSU in Owerri. That primitive greed and parochialism persist till today, and have given rise to Imo state where Owerri area is donkey years of modernity ahead of rest of Imo state. Name any other state in Nigeria where all six tertiary education institutions are in one senatorial zone, except Imo state. Imopoly is closest to Owerri. |
Dedetwo:Poor you. It’s not only people of Imo state that pass through, or live, in Owerri. The flyovers will never collapse unless vehicles ply on them. Why deny Owellle now? You and others like you from Owerri clapped: “Owelle mere yaaa,” when the flyovers and tunnels, Federal Police and Prisons Hqtrs and six inland roads clustered together, were being built by Owelle in Owerri with federal allocations of the 27 local government areas of Imo state; federal allocations that should have gone for providing basic social amenities, including roads and drainage gutters and running water, in the local government areas. You pretended you didn’t see the decadence in Okigwe and Orlu areas then. Folks like you have already started to demand that gov Uzodinma build skyscrapers in Owerri. What do you people interpret state capital to be? Greedy and most primitive folks like you have been working for long to make Orlu and Okigwe dry up and possibly go to extinction. |
McStoic:Evil mind, you knew that uncompleted urban drainage system was wrecking Orlu when you were asking Ohakim and Okorocha to build you flyovers where roundabouts or traffic lights would have sufficed in Owerri. You foolishly believed that flyover is a sign of big city. The two governors hurriedly built you flyovers in Owerri. They will never collapse so long as vehicles don’t ply on them. Let them remain flyover monuments for you; at least to make you learn a lesson that other parts of Imo state need the most basic infrastructures like treated running water and good roads before unnecessary flyovers in Owerri. |
Areas mapped out for housing in the 27 LGAs of Imo state must be fully occupied before talk of building skyscrapers. Perhaps more than 100 years from now. Japan has little land mass but used skyscrapers to make up housing for its people. Japan did not go into building skyscrapers in the capital city, Tokyo, while rest of Japan lay fallow. But if any private developers love skyscrapers, it can be built. People from Owerri area are supposed to be very rich as funds of government to Imo state have circulated mostly in Owerri since 1976. Native land owners in Owerri sell a plot of land and become millionaires. People from Orlu and Okigwe zones are saddled with the LIFE TORTURE of building two living houses- one in Owerri where public infrastructures like water, universities and good roads are restricted to in Imo state, then another house in their villages in Orlu and Okigwe zones. So let the rich people from Owerri area build skyscrapers in Owerri. It’s only a stupid fellow who can lobby IMSG to build skyscrapers in Owerri because he/she sees skyscrapers in other capital cities. |
hammer3:Rochas Okorocha is no more governor. Okorocha is the only governor in the world who can put in millions or billions of Naira to decorate state capital in a state without common treated public water supply systems. He expected Imo people to consume untreated water from water boreholes for ages. Abagworo then goes online to show off the decorations. |
Let IMSG let the flyovers remain like that for the flyover crazy - capital city people who asked for them. Millions of Naira state funds must not be put into demolition of the flyovers while rest of Imo state have no common pipe borne water, hardly any passable urban roads in towns outside the state capital. How much shall end up in demolishing this tunnel built where there was no hill in Owerri, where a roundabout would have been better? Owerri clapped “Owelle mere yaaa” when the tunnels were built.
|
Yampotatocarrot:They may now be lobbying gov Uzodinma to build skyscrapers in Owerri to, according to them as usual, make Owerri look like OTHER STATES CAPITAL CITIES, the same way they lobbied Ohakim and Okorocha to build FLYOVERS in Owerri to make Owerri look like other capital cities. Most annoying thing from this Owerri people is that they don’t want to see that common urban drainage system does not exist anywhere outside Owerri in Imo state, no sustainable public water supply system exists anywhere outside Owerri in Imo state, no public university exists anywhere outside Owerri in Imo state, yet they push every governor of Imo state into wasting scarce funds to build vainglorious boulevards and other edifices in Owerri. Where are the flyovers and tunnels they literally forced Okorocha to build in Owerri where roundabout or traffic lights would have been better? |
Dedetwo:What template in governance justifies yearly demolition and rebuilding by successive governors of Imo state in your Owerri area while rest of Imo state remain wretched? Stop being selfish. Population of Owerri is about 850,000 people. Population of Orlu is about 430,000. Google. Owerri has about 200,000 students who come and leave. So what capital investment can government do in Orlu that can’t yield, unless you sabotage it? You lice-like there must learn to invest your capital in your Owerri zone, but let IMSG invest its capital in all parts of the state. Enwerem from Owerri zone governed Imo state for 20 months from 1991 to 1993. Common research, you can’t make. Put Evan Enwerem on Google search. Enwerem saw FUTO, AICE and Polynekede in Owerri zone, yet he established IMSU in Owerri. That’s capital investment in Imo state which you wanted to lecture us about? |
I often regret to condescending to join in roads roads roads discussion here. Nit wits on this thread in Imo state don’t even know that treated pipe borne water supply for all in Imo state is more important than roads they crave for the state capital. It’s a pity. Imo state Commissioner for Works have been naming every road and track route in the state capital he has completed or about to complete, and the water supply project of Owerri zone. But I don’t know if he thinks people in his Mgbidi hometown deserve treated public water supply system. |
asha80:You can spew yarn to suit your interests but truth remains: 2007 to 2019, politicians with pin-size intelligence thought Orlu urban LGA is property of former governor Achike Udenwa. They destroyed nearly every government development project in Orlu. Okorocha enlarged four roads in Orlu urban LGA, that lead to the main road to his Ideato South home. Orlu urban roads were laid since the 1970s. But just about 2% of them were paved during Udenwa’s govt. Those paved were left to decay. Imo government has destroyed and rebuilt some urban roads in Owerri more than three times since then. Those who created states didn’t imagine that what has been happening in Imo state could be. |
Ikengawo:Ikega from Awomamma You deceive yourself and ENTERTAIN those of you here who don’t believe that government development projects in Imo state can go beyond the state capital, Owerri. This road in Orlu municipal local government area leads to IMSUTH in Orlu. The road has been like this since APC came to Imo state. 98% of urban roads in Orlu are more or less like this. Una no shame for Imo state. This type of road can’t exist anywhere else in Nigeria. Imo APC still exists in this part of Orlu zone. If Imo APC does not change its trade mark of demolishing and rebuilding and demolishing and rebuilding in state capital but abandoned rest of the state, we shall soon set to ROOT OUT APC TOTALLY from Imo state. People who live in Owerri capital territory judge Imo APC not from what’s rebuilt in Owerri, but from development projects in their hometowns.
|
Yampotatocarrot:Some shoot-my-self-on-the-feet persons from Oru-Awoomamma up to Ohaji in Orlu senatorial district would rather have all development projects of government to be in Owerri, instead of anywhere in Orlu or elsewhere in Orlu zone. Did you not read an Oru-Awo handler here questioning why anybody would ask for removal of any development project like tertiary education institutions clustered in Owerri, from Owerri to any other place in Imo state? One Mgbidi man, Ralph Nwosu, who is Imo Works Commissioner has refused to reconstruct any urban roads in Orlu, not even the roads given out by Ihedioha for reconstruction in Orlu. But he is proud displaying online the urban roads of Okigwe and Owerri his Works Ministry has either completed or completing. Result: that Mgbidi-Awo to Ohaji side of Orlu zone gets nothing from government, Orlu and rest of Orlu zone get nothing from government. |
Ikengawo:Ok. Sensible man, you needed to have posted any photos of Orlu here to debunk my assertion. Present Imo state was created with Owerri, Orlu and Okigwe as urban centres. Since 2007, ndi arurala and most poorly educated in charge of Imo state relegated Orlu and Okigwe to rural area status, waste the state’s resources on building and demolishing and rebuilding and rebuild infrastructures in Owerri; because Owerri people bamboozled them that state capital must be developed first before any other place in the state. After telling Ohakim and Okorocha to build us flyovers and tunnels in Owerri to make Owerri look like other big cities, they are now telling present leaders of the state to build us skyscrapers in Owerri. Iberiberism: 1) no town planner would build flyover unless options of roundabout and traffic lights are not possible. 2) Skyscrapers in Owerri with little electricity is waste of money, even though we may have to close rest of Imo state to come to settle in Owerri. |
Abagworo:Bros, this Orlu you like to mention upandan, have you been there of recent? There is no one motorable street, no public water supply, pits were deliberately dug in town centre to drain floods instead of completing the town’s urban drainage tunnel started by a former governor from far away Bende in Abia state. Politicians from Orlu zone since BC have been building Owerri state capital. It’s like they were told that unless state capital becomes like London, no dice for Orlu. |
Lol. Iyamu already displays his servant-master relationship role if elected governor of Edo state. |
A VC’s son in charge of collecting fees from students? Selfish. Prof Adaobi, Prof Awuzie, Gov Okorocha - three actors on top of university education in Imo state for 8 years, but could not understand the importance of the advantages of closeness to government subsidized multi faculty university in their Imo West senatorial district. Replace these names with Prof Viola Onwuliris and Emeka Ihedioha in 4 years, new university would have been in Mbaise. Viola Onwuliri was instrumental to conversion of AIFCE to full university when she was mere Minister of State in Education at Abuja, though Buhari government reversed the conversion. Info has it that politicians from Imo West even want to convert another college to university very close to Owerri. That’s how the cookie is crumbling for most people in Imo West. |
Politicians from Orlu zone may not be aware of this, because Owerri has become home to almost every one of them. They pave almost all the streets of Owerri while Orlu remains like a civil war area. RIP young man. |
bigtt76:Problem is that there are too many ignoramuses in Imo state capital who believe that FLYOVER is sign of a developed mega city. But no good town planner goes for flyovers unless roundabout or traffic lights can’t be built on the junction. The Ignorant people in Imo state capital don’t have access to treated public water supply, they consume untreated water from boreholes, but pressure successive governors of Imo state to build them flyovers in Owerri. And they are blind to the fact that other urban areas of the state have no good roads, are being wrecked by absence of common urban drainage gutters, no town planning, talk less, treated public water supply system. |
Abagworo:Okorocha was building tunnels and flyovers where no hills exist in Owerri, where simpler roundabout or traffic lights could have easily allowed free flow of traffic. He built 6 Inland Roads where two would be okay in Owerri - all these because he had no attachment to other urban areas of the state. Okorocha was building City Schools at nearly every street junction in Owerri but schools outside Owerri were dilapidated. As Okorocha was building in Owerri, floods wrecked Orlu due to uncompleted urban drainage project started during the tenure of Amadi Ikwechegh, urban roads of Orlu are wrecked. Don’t cheat nature. A governor putting 90% of his attention with capital development funds, including federal allocation, of Imo state, into building structures in the state capital alone, such a governor is working against nature. Okorocha who built nearly everything he considered development only in the state capital worked against nature. Any governor who followed Okorocha’s pattern must be discredited at last, like Okorocha. Imo state is not state capital alone. Less than 5% of the people from Imo state come from that state capital. Google estimate has Owerri pop. as 1 million people, but Orlu as 430,000 people. Come and go Students make up a large part of Owerri population. It’s wishful thinking for any Imo governor who thinks he can earn plaudits by concentrating only on Owerri capital territory but relegate Orlu to the back yard. That a governor has no special attachment to a place is no reason to undermine modern development in the place. |
decatalyst:Since 2007, Imo governors build, demolish and rebuild state capital because the governors have no attachment to the other principal urban centers in the state. Money that should have gone to provide basic services in other urban areas of the state are either wasted on demolition and reconstruction in the state capital or vanished. |
leicestercamper:Thank you. We build and rebuild state capital. Ralf Nwosu, Imo Commissioner for Works, I cannot hold my head high if I am Imo Commissioner for Works but see this type of road in your hometown. This is a major road in Orlu Municipal local government area of Imo state . Population of Owerri is about 1 million, while Orlu is about 430,000 - Google estimates.

Technical drawing of tunnel not found shouldn’t have been excuse for demolishing the tunnel. We all know that the tunnels, like most of Okorocha’s projects, are sub standard. Imo has become a state where every government buries itself in the state capital demolishing and rebuilding what was already built. Rest of the state are no-go areas: decadent. |
akinegba1:You talk about Owerri as filth. But Orlu the next most populated urban centre after Owerri is a shame to Imo state; but shortsighted people in Imo state no longer see Imo state beyond the state capital. Rochas Okorocha left the impression that Owerri is Imo state, as he built nearly everything he considered as development project in the state capital. |
Western Education is Haram govt. A modern technology that should have enhanced fair elections, but which you refused is what you want to use as evidence to uphold your rigging of election. You are not ashamed of that. Bin such evidence.
|
Fulani owns Nigeria, since Fulani-loyal soldiers created 20 political units in old northern region but created only 17 units in old two southern regions. New political units like states are created in equal proportions between the regions that originally formed a country, not by use of land mass or population figures as yardstick which gave rise to 20 units in one region. A presidential candidate must win 25% of votes in 24 states to be proclaimed winner of Nigeria's presidential election. Thus, no southern presidential candidate can ever win Nigeria's presidential election unless accepted by Fulani. That's how Nigeria gets the inept Obasanjo, Atiku, Buhari, and even Jonathan as presidents or candidate. |
@asha80 with his talk about erosion job in Ideato. Most of Owerri people are smart - but by half actually. The ages deplorable concentration of all 6 tertiary education institutions in Imo state in Owerri imbued people of Owerri with knowledge, but they apply the knowledge against rest of their state outside Owerri; rest of the state outside Owerri zone are deprived the advantages of mass education; they thus remain docile, as Owerri aims for the state government to develop Owerri to touch the sky before any other place in the state is looked at. |
