I wonder what Amaechi think he is. Few months ago, APC and their internet rats made us to believe that the problem of rivers state was CP Mbu, Today, it has become obvious who is the beginning and end of Rivers State crisis. |
The Presidency has condemned the Governor of Lagos State, Mr. BAbatunde Fashol(SAN) over his attack on President Goodluck Jonathan at the lecture to celebrate the 50th birthday of a former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Timipriye Silva in Abuja on Thursday. The Presidency said it was not true as alleged by Fashola that the Federal Government has been inactive for the last three years and that it was planning to give the electorate kerosene, rice and money for the purpose of seeking their votes.Senior Special Assistant to the President on Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, who spoke at a press briefing in Abuja, said Fashola might have been too occupied in Lagos and that this might have narrowed his vision or precluded him from appreciating lofty developments by the president administration in the country. He said it was also not correct that the President had lied to Nigerians on the issue of insurgency, which he described as a global phenomenon.Okupe said that as its peak, insurgency ravaged some 12 states in the north, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. But today, he said he was happy that “because of the courage, resilience and capability of the armed forces and security agencies,” the insurgency had been pushed to the fringes of the north eastern parts of the country. While agreeing that there were challenges, he nevertheless said that the government was giving its best attention and conversations possible. On the issue of the alleged missing of $49b from the NNPC account, Okupe said it was regrettable that even some of the best among Nigerians would in the name of politics descend to the level of belligerent liars to continue to propagate a confirmed falsehood. He said even the originator of the story had since changed the fugues for at least three times and that yet, none had been substantiated. http://www.punchng.com/news/presidency-chides-fashola-over-attack-on-jonathan/ |
Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi has denied campaigning for his party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), during his recent ‘Meet-the-People’ tour of the 23 local government areas of the state. He was responding to the state Police Commissioner, Tunde Ogunsakin, who on Tuesday frowned at his (Amaechi’s) political speeches during his tour of local governments. Ogunsakin spoke during an interaction with newsmen at the police command headquarters on Moscow Road, Port Harcourt. This was the second time in less than one week Ogunsakin would express dissatisfaction with statements credited to Amaechi and activities of politicians and youth groups during the Governors’ tour of the local government areas. While reiterating the earlier ban on political activities in the state, Ogunsakin said “the police has observed with dismay that some political office holders have begun flouting the earlier ban under the guise of local government familiarisation tours or courtesy visits to local governments in the state. “Particular reference is made herewith of some youth organisations that have hijacked such visits or tours and turned them into full scale political rallies. “The command unequivocally warns that anybody caught in this act will be decisively dealt with within the ambits of the law. “The ban on political campaigns, especially unauthorised gatherings of people who directly or indirectly advance the aspirations of politicians or political parties is premised on the strength of the Electoral Act,” the police boss said. But the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Ibim Semenitari, said in a statement in Port Harcourt on Tuesday that “the Rivers State Government is worried about the tone of the statement credited to CP Ogunshakin and concerned about the implication of the same. “For the purposes of clarification and emphasis, the administration of Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi considers participation a key element of democratic rule and good governance. “As a result, it has consistently embarked on stewardship accountability fora and stock taking since Governor Amaechi assumed office in October 2007. “Town hall meetings, meet the people tours and engagement with professional groups and other publics is neither novel nor strange with the Amaechi regime. “The alleged comments of the CP appear curious, especially coming on the heels of the overtly political purported endorsement on Minister of State for Education, Nyesom Wike, for governor by some members of the Rumueprikom community and the visit of the wife of the President to local government areas in Rivers State. “While the purpose of these obvious political gatherings of the PDP is campaign for 2015, CP Ogunshakin appears unable to see or hear any evil. “The Rivers State Government is conscious of this but wishes to reassure CP Ogunshakin that it is not a brigand or an irresponsible government,” the commissioner said. Semenitari further explained that “Governor Amaechi has clearly stated that the purpose of his ward tours is to find out the impact of his numerous projects on the people at the grassroots and what gaps still exist to enable him cross all T’s and dot all the I’s as his administration finishes its last lap”. Semenitari added: “We can state unequivocally that we will not disregard the rules of engagement and that when we are set for campaign, it will be clear not just to the Rivers State Police Command but to the entire world. “We will not hide our glowing light under a bushel; however we would wish to respectfully request CP Ogunshakin to be even handed in his caution and ensure that what is sauce for the goose is also sauce for the gender.” It will be recalled that former Rivers State Police Commissioner, Mbu Joseph Mbu, had placed the ban on early campaigns in the state before his redeployment to Abuja. http://dailyindependentnig.com/2014/08/amaechi-cp-may-clash-campaign/ |
It's obvious that APC can never win election based on good reputation or capability as political party hence their desperate poaching of good electoral material from PDP. Today, PDP is "reproaching" from them, they're crying. |

The northern delegates has no alternative than to come down from their high horse. |
A former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Malam Nuhu Ribadu, has said he is not bothered about the pressure mounted by his party, the All Progressive Congress (APC), to halt his planned defection to the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). The APC leadership has continued to dissuade the former anti- corruption chief from defecting to the PDP. But reacting to the move, Ribadu noted that while he appreciated the gestures, he is entitled to his decision. Speaking through his media aide, Abdulaziz Abdulaziz, the former presidential aspirant seeking to contest the Adamawa governorship election said the current pressure was a sign of his competence. A statement signed by Abdulaziz and made available to THISDAY in Abuja yesterday noted that: “Ribadu has support irrespective of political leanings in the state. The people need someone with Ribadu’s credentials. Thus it is no wonder he is under pressure from all quarters.” Abdulaziz also added that Ribadu had grassroots appeal as a result of his anti-corruption crusade which made him a house hold name. Since it got out that Ribadu wants to run for the governorship, many commentators have either hailed or flayed the decision. Apart from the choice of the PDP platform, some observers have criticised the office the Adamawa politician is seeking. But Abdulaziz said the former EFCC boss was enjoying massive support from the state because the people have identified corruption as the biggest issue. He noted that although Ribadu did not have a godfather, he has widespread support from major stakeholders both in the state and the presidency. Meanwhile, a former scribe of the PDP in the state, Mr. P. P. Elisha, has faulted moves by some political heavyweights to deny Ribadu automatic admission into party Elisha who spoke with journalists at his residence in Yola, described the action as unfair to the party and freedom of individuals to associate. He maintained that “these” people who now pride themselves as members of the PDP were given waivers in 2011, adding that some of them had added colour to the party with their aura. “It is an act of gross injustice and unfairness not to allow Ribadu join the PDP,” he said. According to him, the elders and those crying foul had in 2011 disregarded due process in picking candidates according to laid down guidelines, as he expressed surprise that the same people were crying foul, adding “that he who must agitate for equity and justice must come with clean hands.” “I remember in 2011 when we were in Bauchi, the incumbent national chairman of the party was aspiring to contest for primaries for the presidential ticket of the party. He mobilised for an alleged imposition. The same scenario is playing out now. “But when we went to Eagle Square in Abuja, nobody protested against the imposition of the party’s presidential candidate in 2011. The convention was held as the president emerged the candidate and eventually won the presidential election,” Elisha said. The former scribe explained that the national chairman of PDP should not be crucified for replaying the same type that was played in 2011, saying it was the same method applied to some person who had aspired for the presidency of the country on the platform of the PDP despite the fact that there were many presidential aspirants then. “The same thing rolled out in the state when we came back to the state after the convention. The same stakeholders crying fouls now said we should adopt Murtala Nyako as the governorship candidate of the party against all odds, despite the fact that there were many aspirants for the office. “At that time, only five of us, Musa Kamale, PP Elisha and three others who frowned at such action said it was imposition as primaries were not conducted. Between our trip from Bauchi and Abuja, a decision was taken in favour of Nyako without primaries. “If it was done in 2011 or 2012, why should it not be done now? Why are the same people crying foul? Adamu Mua’zu suffered the same fate because he was a presidential aspirant.” “They are only making noise, am sorry to say that, but the facts are there for everyone to see.” Elisha, who vouched for the credibility of the former EFCC boss, said Ribadu could only be likened to the disposition of General Muhammadu Buhari (rtd), whose aspiration for Nigeria “is to free the society of corruption and indecency.” He said if elected, Ribadu would make sure that there is equity and fairness in the political and the administrative system in the state “because he is a tested and trusted person whose passion is needed for the development and growth of the state.” http://www.thisdaylive.com/articles/ribadu-i-am-not-bothered-about-pressure-from-apc/186315/ |
The National Conference came to a peaceful end today, as delegates agreed to a change in the draft constitution, through majority voice vote. The ability of the conference to end in peace was sequel to the series of meetings the Chairman of the Conference, Justice Idris Kutigi, held with many zonal leaders at the National Judicial Institute, venue of the conference on Wednesday. Members agreed to a minor amendment to the the third volume of the conference report by replacing the ‘draft constitution’ to read ‘Resolutions of the conference as draft amendments to 1999 constitution’. Northern delegates who had insisted that the leadership of the national conference should withdraw the contentious ‘draft constitution’ also towed the line of the other delegates to adopt the recommendations of the conference. The motion for the amendment was moved by Maina Waziri. A former Minster of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Chief Richard Akinjide (SAN) moved the motion for the adoption of the conference report and was seconded by Yadomah Mandara. The conference, which began on March 17, 2014 will be formally declared closed by President Goodluck Jonathan on Thursday, August 21, 2014. President Goodluck Jonathan has said no group can threaten him before he will perform his official duties. He said it was wrong for any group to issue a threat asking him to rescue Chibok schoolgirls before he could get the support of any person or group for his 2015 presidential ambition. President Jonathan, who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant to the President, Public Affairs, Dr. Doyin Okupe, said he was already working on how to rescue the abducted girls. Okupe, in the statement in Abuja on Tuesday, was responding to a threat by the members of the Northern Elders Forum on Monday, where they issued October deadline for the condition to be met. The NEF position was made known through two of its members, Solomon Dalung and Dr. Hakeem Baba-Ahmed. It will be recalled that since three months ago when the more than 200 girls abducted by the members of the dreaded Boko Haram sect have been, eleven of their parents have died. The northern elders were of the opinion the military can defeat the Boko Haram terrorists – if, indeed, the government wants to subdue the sect. They said, “We are convinced that most of these conflicts are being engineered to weaken the North politically and economically by interests, which intend to exploit such weaknesses for electoral benefits. “In the light of our firm conviction that the insurgency and related security challenges pose threats to the 2015 elections and the survival of our nation, we strongly advise President Goodluck Jonathan to bring an end to the insurgency in all its manifestations and produce the Chibok girls before the end of October, 2014. “The circumstances under which our fellow citizens in and around Gwoza in Borno State in particular live and die will not be tolerated by any people who have a government and a leader sworn to defend them, and they must be reversed immediately.” Okupe, while faulting the northern elders, said “President Jonathan does not require any threat or ultimatum from any group of persons to be alive to his responsibilities to the Nigerian People.” He added that the issue of insurgency, especially those ideologically based on Islamic extremism was a global phenomenon, which he said required tact, military capability, serious de-radicalisation techniques and community based counter insurgency programmes to ensure success. In these areas, he said the Federal Government was making progress. He said the military and other security agencies were improving on operational capabilities and efficiencies by acquiring more advanced weapons and technologies. Apart from this, he said the government had also drafted more military personnel to the region to strengthen its fighting power. Okupe added that the government was equally taking advantage of the offers from international military and intelligence allies to assist in identifying key locations. He said, “We are working with our neighbours to secure the borders and limit the movements of the Boko Haram fighters, building on the agreements reached at the recent summits in Paris and London. “We are deploying more resources to maximize operational efficiency, acquire more advanced and relevant weaponry and boost the general morale of our combatants. This is why the Government recently requested for an additional funding of $1bn. “And the last piece in the puzzle is targeting the domestic and international funding, and stopping the money flows into the coffers of the terrorists.” On the suggestion that the government was carrying out plans aimed at scheming to annihilate any section of the country for political gain, Okupe said such accusation was “preposterous, contrary to common sense, divisive and essentially a deliberate attempt to disseminate ‘hate mentality’ and cause mischief.” He said President Jonathan was voted for by an overwhelming majority of Nigerians across the board, and that he will never promote any policy that is either divisive or inimical to the wellbeing of any section of the polity. http://www.punchng.com/news/you-cant-threaten-me-jonathan-tells-northern-elders/ |
