Akin quickly charged towards Victor, held him by the back of his head and slammed his head real hard against the steering wheel right in his front; Victor was dazed and lost his balance as he raised his head to come to terms of what just happened.

“Wha!!!” Victor was about asking slowly…

Before he could regain his composure, Akin slammed his head against the wheels again, even though physically Akin was no match for him, there was little he could do as he completely pinned down by the fallen tree and Tonye’s body. His face was already bloodied and blood could be seen tripping out from his nose and he raised his head one more time, turned his head to take one look at Akin who was fast approaching with his hands to slam Victor’s head against the wheel again.

Victor face cut out a picture of a man filled with regret, disappointment and anger all at the same time, he thought looking straight into Akin’s eyes will make him consider not killing him, but like a man that was possessed by evil forces , without thinking twice Akin slammed Victor’s head against the steering wheel of his car for the third time in quick succession this time harder than the previous two.

Victor passed out immediately on the third impact with the wheels; Akin on seeing that he has passed out, repeatedly slammed his head against the wheel till his forehead was completely bashed in and he could feel blood and some brain matter splash on his own face.

The sight was graphic, horrific to say the least and would take a man with heart made of stone to take a second look, two dead bodies gruesomely murdered in cold blood and the whole explanation for their death would be a car crash…

Akin just killed Victor without any asking any questions or giving any explanations, after satisfying himself by checking Victor’s pulse and realised it was numb, he reached for his pocket and pulled out a stick of cigarette as he fumbled around his trousers looking for his lighter, he could not see it

Damn!!! He cussed out loud, he then realised the lighter probably had fallen off him when they crashed into a tree, as he made his way back to passenger seat where he was previously, he could see the lighter on the car foot mat, just before picking up his lighter, he quickly rummage through the car to see if Victor kept any record or document in his car that could implicate him or link him to any of the previous crimes,he tried really hard looking through the glove compartment and other parts of the car but he could not see anything.

The ripped seat belt of the passenger seat caught Akin’s attention as he was busy searching the car, he noticed that it was nicely sliced in half with razor and the other ripped part caused on impact with the tree, he took a look at the dead body of Victor as a thought crossed his mind…he quickly checked out the deflated airbag space in the dashboard and he noticed it was tampered with too…

“Ain’t I one lucky dude”…he said on realising the trap Victor had set for him in the event of a car crash, two traps designed to kill him, the less important one worked, the most important didn’t.

Back at Akin’s compound, when Victor has gone to place Tonye’s body inside the car, after successfully placing her on the backseat, some thoughts crept into his mind…

Why don’t I kill two birds with one stone…He said to himself, this could be his way out since he wanted one so badly, he could sabotage the seatbelt and the airbag of the passenger side of the vehicle, leaving Akin at the mercy of the car crash.

This could be my chance to get out he said to himself as he pulled out a razor and sliced the pulled out seat beat into half as he released the belt to let it roll back into position, well designed to rip on impact with a stationary object, he opened up the airbag compartment and place a two big stones on the edges to prevent it from ever deploying in the incidence of an accident…

“V…what else do we need to bring along…Akin called out to him from his apartment entrance.

Victor who was caught unawares fumbled as he quickly closed the airbag compartment of the passenger seat to prevent Akin from noticing is plans. And that was the only reason the airbag worked when the crash happened.

So Victor too had a plan of his own all along, Akin felt it was only fair he killed him since it was Victor that had planned to kill him first

“You don’t think there would be a next time right Victor? I don’t think there would be a next time either”…Akin said to himself in reference to what Victor muttered to himself earlier in his apartment.

Akin finally picked up his lighter when he was satisfied with the search, he raised up his head, took one final look at his dead friends and a snicker could be seen emerging on his face.

He lit up his cigarette, unbeknownst to him when the car hit the tree, the impact had caused the gas tanker of the car to shift position therefore
causing a leak of petrol to the bare floor, he tossed off the ashes of the cigarette he was the smoking as he emerged victorious from the car.

A string of wind blows unfortunately blew the red hot ashes to the direction of the gas leakage under the car.

KABOOM!!! That was the next sound that resonated through the surrounding as the car exploded in a burning fit of rage, the dismembered body of Akin was flown some meters away from the explosion site as the cigarette he was smoking landed few centimetres from him.

His body was badly charred and obviously, he was so dead!!!

Nature just fixed up three loose canyons as Tonye herself was not so innocent, because back at Akin’s apartment, a text message was seen on her phone Akin and Victor had left behind when they rushing to dispose off her body. Her account officer was notifying her of a successful transfer of funds from the disputed account to an offshore account of the same bank overseas branch, she had the account frozen and all transaction inaccessible to third parties.

She found out about the laundering few weeks earlier and thought of it was her get out ticket from Akin who wayward life she couldn’t cope with anymore, but instead of leaving honourably by breaking up with him and getting him arrested for fraud, she choose to be greedy by fleecing the devil of his money.

Well, nature had plans of FIXING itself from bad people as Akin, Tonye and Victor were just pawns in the grand scheme of things…

As the first Samaritan packed by the road to help accident victims.

The car could be seen burning in the background.

THE END

Could develop a sequel or give an alternate ending.

Depends on popular demand.

But i think an alternate ending would make more sense.

He lit up his cigarette, opened up the car's gas tank, placed a piece of rag he found in the car right into the car gas tank, leaving a tiny part of the rag just outside the gas tank, he took one final look at the dead bodies as he set the rag on fire.

Akin quickly walked away from the wreckage to a safe distance, he watched as the rag burn up, realising what was about to follow, he used both his hands to cover his ears as the car exploded in a fit of burning rage.

It was still early in the morning and it was the outskirts of town, the traffic was relatively absent as he looked around to ensure no one saw him while he was doing all this.

“You don’t think there would be a next time right Victor? I don’t think there would be a next time either”…Akin said to himself in reference to what Victor muttered to himself earlier in his apartment as he exhaled the smoke trapped in his lungs.

He did achieve his aim, as there was no witness in sight.

Akin didn’t really need a fixer in the first place, because he just “FIXED” his own life himself, his money successfully laundered as he had unlimited access to Tonye’s account as he had made himself the next of kin to the account and as such has the legitimate right to the money in her account, triggered immediately with her death.

Also all his secrets and bad deeds for the past two years are all dead and buried with the cold blooded termination of Victor’s life
Tonye and Victor were just pawns in the grand scheme of things…

Akin heaved a heavy sigh of relief but there was visible scornful look on face and a mischievous smile to go with it, as he gently planted his butt on the black asphalt puffing his cigarette as he awaits the first Samaritan that would help an accident victim.

The car could be seen burning in the background.

Done with my first official story on Nairaland, I really hope it was worth the readers while, if there are any additions or suggestionS you have, be kind enough to point it out.

I was thinking of creating alternate endings but that would be based on the reviews and comment of the readers.

Do not forget to score me on a scale of 10.

Victor raised up Tonye's head to see the damage that was done to it by the fall as he thought of a way out of the quagmire.

“I can claim it was an accident right or maybe self defence”…Akin’s chipped in trying to help his “friend” do the thinking.

“No, you can’t…I am sure this is not the first time you would be having an argument with Tonye, your neighbour must heard you guys once or twice and I am quite sure yesterday was not an exception. It will be easy for them to counter your claims of accident or self defence”…he replied quickly dismissing Akin’s thought.

“Johnbull saw me drop her off yesterday night”…Victor let out his thought unconsciously

“Okay!!! This is what we will do”…he seemed to have seen a solution in head.

“We will clean up this mess made by her blood, clean up the wound and clean her up, dress her up and apply light make up to her face”…he paused to take another moment to think it through as he explained to Akin on how to salvage the situation from becoming a murder case.

“Yes, I am listening”…he replied eagerly awaiting the concluding part of the story.

“It is going to cost you a new car and maybe sometime in the hospital for both of us”…he finally said something after some minutes of silence.

“How?” A bemused Akin asked, he was totally lost as he could not find a correlation between what Victor had said before and what he just uttered.

“We are going to make it look like she died in a car crash, this is the story, you called me early this morning to help you and your girlfriend out of town, but unfortunately we were involved in a car crash due to the brake failure, she lost her life in the crash, this is Nigeria nobody would investigate the deep gash on her head…he finally concluded the story as he seemed to have found a solution to the problem.

“So at day break, we put her in the back seat of my car, your neighbours and the guard can see her “alive” when she was leaving for the trip, that should remove any murder case from your head when they finally hear about the crash”…he dished the order out to Akin, who nodded his head like a little puppy eagerly awaiting it master commands..

Akin did as Victor instructed, he knew the plan was close to perfect apart from the fact that they would also be involved in the crash; he
seemed satisfied with the story/claims.

By 6:37am the sunrise is not that obvious yet, they set out in Victor’s car, perfectly tucked in the back seat of the Toyota Camry was Tonye’s dead body. It will take a soothsayer to tell that she is dead; Victor meticulously placed her in a sitting position, while Akin was in passenger seat and Victor drove out of the estate. They did achieve their aim of letting the neighbours and the guard see them leave the estate clearing any suspicion that Tonye was dead already.

Victor drove towards the outskirt of town, as Akin prayed that they do not meet any police patrol on the way, God did answer his prayers as they made it out of town without seeing a patrol vehicle,

Some few kilometres after driving away from town, without any prior warning to Akin so to prevent him from going into shock due to the unknown impact the crash might have, Victor steadily increased the speed at which they were moving and sudden swerved the car towards a big tree by the side of the freeway.

GBAM!!! There was loud bang that followed, the car airbags all came out shielding both the driver and the passenger from the impact of the crash, but Tonye’s dead body was not so lucky as Victor had strategically placed the body in the middle of the back seat and deliberately didn’t use a seat beat for her, so the body was flung head on towards the wind shield on impact with the tree and as such the body could be seeing hanging in the broken wind shield with head hanging outside the vehicle and the body inside the car.

The sight was really gory to behold as Tonye’s face was totally unrecognisable again, as tiny pieces of glasses could be seen protruding from the once cute face.

Victor was the first to open his eyes and when he saw Tonye’s body hanging in the wind shield, he knew the plan was a success, he look at Akin who was also trying to move his hands and legs; the plan wasn’t so bad after all. He brought out the car keys and deflated the dispatched airbags.

Unknown to Victor, the tree he rammed into was a dead tree, due to the impact of the moving vehicle on the tree; the tree had broke off in the middle.

GBOOOAAA!!! A deafening sound could be heard, it was the upper part of the broken tree and it had just fell straight down on the middle of the car roof, completely bashing it in and smashing the wind shield completely.

Unfortunately the broken tree part fell on Victor’s side of the car, his case was not helped as the fallen tree had totally shifted Tonye’s body position on him leaving him with little or no movement as he could only turn is head sideways and nothing more, he could not move his arms or legs any more he was completely trapped with nowhere to go.

Akin was scared with the new development as adrenaline rush made him hurriedly make his way out of the now stationary not so pristine Toyota Camry, he was visibly okay except for some cuts and bruises on his body mainly caused by the shattered wind shield, he made it out alive.

“Get me out here!!!”…Victor barked Akin as he is trying really hard to move his body parts.

“Right away”…Akin replied, just as he was heading towards the crashed car, but what followed was really shocking.

The time was 4:07 AM Saturday morning, he was trying really hard to battle his emotions as lying on the ground was Tonye’s lifeless body, she still looked pretty even though she is dead, her once glowing skin did betray her thought as it was now looking pale, indicating she is not alive any more, as she laid down on the white marble floor, motionless and in a pool of her own blood.

A visibly distraught Akin could be seen sitting down on the sofa staring blankly into the wall in front of him, two thing are probably going through his mind, the fact that the only woman that understand him very well is dead and the fact that he was the one that killed her, that is going to haunt him for the rest of his life.

“What happened?” Victor finally broke the awkward silence that enveloped the living room of Akin’s apartment.

Akin raised up his head, making eye contact for the first time since Victor walked in, he replied…does that really matter at the moment, we need to clean this up before daybreak, he uttered with so much discomfort.

If we are cleaning anything, I need to know what caused this, so start talking…Victor lashed out with a raised voice, Akin realised he was not happy with the event that happen, so he sobered up and explained what happened.

“Yesterday evening after you left, we were having a good time in the living room when Tonye received an email from her bank, notifying her of the deposit we made two days ago, speaking of which I thought you said she was not going to get the notification?” He tried to digress trying so hard to reduce the tension that had enveloped the room by trying to divert to another topic.

“I said she would not get the SMS alert, which I am quite sure she did not receive, you on the other hand did not tell me she receives email notification; she is your girlfriend right? How about you pay attention to details like that next time”…he quickly fired back at Akin as he looked straight into eyes and gave him the look that signified that he should finish up the story

“When she got the notification, she decided to check her account history…she discovered all the money we have laundered through her account and she found out that we has set her to take the fall should it backfire”…he finally gave the reason for the fight that broke out between them.

“I told you not to put her name as the depositor’s column time and time again, in case there should be a bust, the cash should be traced back to that phantom company your father created solely for this purpose, but you were just too clever and paranoid…see what that has lead to”…Victor heaped the blame on Akin as he sank his buttocks into the soft couch that was always accommodating regardless of the size of the bearers buttock, well only the rich can afford such a luxury.

“You know Tonye now, she hot blooded, without even asking any questions, she started shouting calling out everyone in my family and threatened to blow the whistle on the whole matter, she picked up phone and was about to call her account officer to notify her of the situation on ground, I tried to grab the phone from her ears but she held on tight and pushed me away”…he paused to catch his breath.
Victor motioned his hand to him, signalling him to continue as he is yet to be satisfied with the explanation Akin has been giving since.

“When she pushed me away, I heard her said “Hello” to the fellow at the other end of the call, I knew she was through to her account officer, I was enraged and I don’t know what came over me, the urge to push her back overwhelmed me and without even blinking twice, I gathered all the strength left in the me and pushed her away with a bid to make her drop the phone but unfortunately she was wearing heels and she slipped and hit her head hard against the sharp edge of the marble”…he said as he hot tears rolled down from his eyes…

“I heard her let out a deep breath, as she gave up the ghost, I was stunned and stood over lifeless body for like 5 minutes as I saw blood trickle out of her head as if someone had opened a tap…I realised I just killed my girlfriend” he concluded, as emotions overtook him and he was wailing really hard.

Victor looked at him without any pity, he was fed up with Akin’s excesses and this was the final straw that broke the camel’s back, he knew he had to get out of this dirty game.

“All this could have been avoided if you had just listened to me and just put that company’s name in the depositor’s column but NO!!! Akin Ilesanmi is always right, now you have added murder to your infamous CV”…Victor compounded his friend’s woes by heaping all the blame on his head, he was not moved by his remorseful attitude, he knew they were all lies and he would be back to his wreck less ways in few days.

“Next time I will let you handled all this businesses”…Akin replied in an apologetic tone.

“Next time?” Victor asked Akin rhetorically…

I don’t think there would be a next time…he muttered to himself as he sounded inaudible to Akin.

“I cannot have a murder case on my hands man, not with the elections coming up next year, my dad is going to have my head…I can’t believe this”….he paused midway to continue his sobbing, he looked pathetic.

Sorry it took this long to update( just got my system back few days ago). I would be finishing up the story in the next two or three post, and I would like all reviews (positive and negative) to continue flowing in.

Thanks.

That was two years ago, back to present day Victor made his way to where he packed his pristine black Toyota Camry that was gifted to him by the influential Senator Ilesanmi, the man that gave birth to Akin Ilesanmi.

True to Akin’s word that night, his father took an instant likening to Victor when he heard about the events that happened that fateful night at the NYSC camp. It could be because of that or due to the fact that Victor has a very likeable personality due to his ability to see through people and relate with them like he had known them for a lifetime.

Akin did fulfil his promise as they both did eventually serve their fatherland in one of his father’s firm in the city of Benin as they were reposted from Kwara state to Edo state to complete their service year due to security reasons, you never cannot be so sure, those weaklings that call themselves military men might have one last sinister move up their sleeves. Victor did not take any chances has he convinced the astute senator to use his influenced to make the relocation possible.

Over the years, Akin and Victor grew closer and closer, as Victor was always there to save the spoilt brat’s blushes and mistakes, something that had become like a second skin to the scion of the illustrious Ilesanmi family.

Officially Victor has been Akin personal guiding angel and this earned him the nickname ‘Fixer’ in the Ilesanmi’s family circle.

But Victor was not always a willing fixer, he only took up the role after so much demand from the influential Senator. The only way out is by agreeing to the senator’s proposition first while he carve a way out of the dirty game after all he is the fixer, fixing his own life would not be a bad thing he thought as he heaved a sigh when he inserted the key into the ignition.

As Victor drove out of the compound that housed his flat, he was already tired of being a grown man’s nanny as his mind wandered back to the day the older Ilesanmi made him the offer of the ‘fixer’

“Come and be my son’s guiding angel… and boy I am not taking a no for an answer”… those were the exact words that came out of the senator’s mouth that day, as he made him an offer he could not turn down.

“Only a fool will reject the offer of the senator”… he chuckled as he took a right turn to face the road that leads to Akin’s estate.

Not only was the senator one of the powerful Nigerian that could make you disappear without a trace, the role of the fixer came with a managerial position at the senator’s company in Benin, coupled with a flat in a decent suburb in the Edo state capital and to top it off a brand new Toyota Camry, in an economy where making a decent living is a herculean task, he jumped at the offer as it was placed on the table.
At first he revel in the job as it something Victor has always excelled at as he was a gifted master strategist with getting people out of difficult situations.

But time and the type of work he was doing did their bit in making him depressed, as his innocent heart was made weary, this made him had nightmares even when he was wide awake. He had always made bad situations nicer for Akin but he screws up the other party involved in the tango, his conscience grew heavy with guilt with every passing day, one of the reasons he cherished his sleep, because that was the only time he had peace of mind.

He was tired of the whole arrangement as Akin was a spoilt brat that is always up to something sinister that will always require fixing.

But Victor knew he could not just quit as he very important to both father and son, as he keeps Chief Ilesanmi political enemies at bay by providing a clean slate and covers his son excesses from his political enemies.

He is also Akin’s only confidant as he is the only one that knows of dark secrets, Akin was not afraid to share his secret with Victor, after all Victor made them secrets in the first place and he has never had any reason to doubt his loyalty as he has a very tight lip.

Honk honk!!!…he blew his car horn to alert the security man in charge of guarding Akin’s Estate of his presence.

“Who be that?” Johnbull asked as the headlamps of the car shine straight into his eyes.

“It’s me, Mr. V”…Victor replied from the comfort of his car.

“Haha, oga V! no vex oh… I no know say na you oh…this your full-light fit blind persin oh..shey na from club you dey waka come this night?”…he kept on talking incessantly as he opened the barricade that was guarding the vast estate.

“Yes! Johnbull…na from the club…I am tired and I need to rest”…Victor said to him because he knew Johnbull would not stop and he was not in the mood for small talks, as he made his way into the estate.

I mean who want to have a conversation at this time of the day…Victor scoffed as he thought of Johnbull’s gestures with disdain as he drove straight towards Akin’s apartment in the very vast estate.

Victor drove past a couple of bungalows before parking in a the space right in front of Akin’s apartment, Akin saw the headlight beaming right into his sitting room as he had intentional switched off the lights in his apartment.

From where he was standing in his living room…he knew it was Victor, he seem relieved as he knew solution to his problem is going to walk in through his main door any moment.

“V never disappoints” he said to himself as he tried to calm his nerves while awaiting the entry of the fixer.

Few minutes later, Victor was standing in Akin’s apartment as he was still coming to terms of the case at hand; there was visible sign of struggle as the whole living room was really messed up, the couch had all changed position, even a 3 year old would quickly decipher that a fight had happened in that very space.

I would not blame ppl that lost their money because they came late but I would blame the greedy ppl that lost money (thinking MMM is now a source of employment)...i mean how can u even borrow money to invest in MMM...that is crazy.

Well, we have all learnt our lesson the hard way.

On a final note just watch ur friends n family that have their money trapped in MMM because alot of suicide will happen in the next few months.

Funny enough my sister is number 96 on the list and she was not admitted for Medicine either thankfully she did pre degree, that was what saved my sister.

Post UTME shud be brought back, in this case now...the Aror girl 'probably' wud have scored another 300 (she seem very brilliant) and would 'probably' be admitted now, scraping it seem like a bad idea because the extortion of students the lawmakers are trying to avoid did not work, most admission seekers still had to pay for screening in most universities they applied for.

u r doing a grt job man, btw o how will it b possible for victor to record such scene clearly to reveal d face of d privates at night, evendou he own a smart fon. cox Kelvin has already moved away from where d camp fire nyt was taken place or howcome d privates fall for d trick.

yeah, i get your drift...

It was not a video to reveal their identity in d real sense of it buh a blurry video that would just show the abduction (light reflections wud still be dere wen he was taken) and d other part of d video which Victor was really banking on, was when deh were about to start the torture and that would be audio recordings.

If the video/audio was to be real n was projected everione would see/hear it and deh wud be easily fished out since d bust up btw Tony n Victor is still fresh in d memory of most people, dia voices would also be identified in d audio.

And d soldiers fell for d trick easily because deh could not take d risk of being exposed based on "what if" the video was for real. They didnt really know if the tape was real or not and dey were not ready to take chances as deh were scared already and knew the consequences of their actions shud they be discovered.

It was a risk Victor took and it did pay off.

Altho i did skip a part i was plannin to include bfor, the part of him recording their initial plans wen he overheard them in d bush but i scratched the idea after some thoughts.

I like ur point of view tho,

Kwantinuation cheesy cheesy cheesy...

The two privates made their way deep into the jungle, as the other corps members were basking in the euphoria of the campfire, the reverse was the case for Akin as he struggled to free himself from the clasp of the unknown, but all his struggles were in vain as the soldier boys held on tight to his arms and legs.

“Hmmmm hmmmm”… that was the muffled sound that emanated from his mouth, he tried to figure out the identity of his abductors in his head, but he could not pinpoint it, he had stepped on a lot of toes within the short period of three weeks that he himself had lost count, it was time he faced the full wrath of his actions.

He gave up the struggle when he realised he was not going to win, maybe the alcohol in his system also played a part in making him accept his fate as he grew weaker and weaker with every attempt he made to break free, this was a battle he was not going to win.

“We don reach the arena”…he could hear one of the abductors say, as they stopped and dumped Akin on the ground like a piece of dirt on the innocent earth violently, Bam!!! Was the cry the earth made as the earth cried for help when Akin full bodyweight gave it a good blow.

“A man die but once”… he concluded in his mind as his body touch the ground, he felt the pain all over his body, he wanted to cry but that would not make abductors have mercy on him, it was pointless and he knew it.

“Bad guy, so you no even chop any liver, see as you weak like vegetable”…Private Tony said him as he busted in a series of sinister laughter.

“Stupid bagger”…the other private barked as he proceeded to join his colleague in the laughter that connoted victory.

They refused to remove the gag from neither his mouth to prevent him from drawing unwanted attention nor his blindfold to prevent him from knowing their identity, after all he had made plenty of enemies so the abductors could have been any of those.

“Wey that whip, to flog this boy dey hungry me”... Tony stretched out his right arm demanding for the horse whip from his accomplice.

“”Na hin be this”…he replied as he handed the fierce looking whip to Tony.

“Today, you go see heaven... you no go die oh”... Tony said to Akin, to reassure him of his ‘safety’…

“But your papa wey dey give you liver self go pity you when he jam your yeye sef again, mumu boy”…Tony promised Akin as he raised the whip intently with his left arm and with full power ready to unleash its wrath on the fresh looking back of the ‘innocent’ boy

Tony was about to bring back the raised arm with so much speed that could make the speed of light look like child’s play when Victor emerged from the darkness…

“I would not want to do that, if I were you!!!”…he said with so much confidence as he step forward, holding his fanny pack in his left hand.

Tony paused for a second as he was scared shitless, he started sweating even though the weather was quite cold, he was visibly shaken, and another voice was the least of things on his mind, the other private scampered away from the arena, leaving Tony to face the consequences of their actions.

The confidence exuded by the speaker as he confidently made the speech made him thought that a superior officer had caught them in the act.

“Don’t run away, I know who you are””…Victor said to him as he finally revealed himself

Tony heaved a sigh of relief when he saw that it was another “white fowl” giving them order.

The other private who has now regained a bit of composure charged angrily towards Victor, even thought Victor could pass for a giant as he was well over 6ft tall and had a well built body that could rival most military personnel, it better to be safe than sorry he thought as he took two steps backward in a bit to avoid the fury of charging soldier boy.

He knew he could not outrun or overpower a trained military personel should it turn to a battle of wit. But should it be a mental battle, he knew there was no way the privates were going to win.

“You don’t want to do that”…He quickly retorted as he conjured up a stop signal with an outstretched hand to stop the charging private in his tracks.

“Who you be?” The other private asked with so much anger, Victor could feel the burning rage in his voice.

“I am just a concerned citizen and I am doing this to protect you guys interest”…he said gently to calm the nerves of the angry privates.

“You see that white wall over there” using his right hand to point at the wall few meters away and adjacent to where they were all standing.

“You know there is projector attached to the ceiling there right?”…he asked rhetorically with a raised right eyebrow, something he does when he is calmly stating his points to his listener.

“Ehen en!!!, wetin come happen”…the privates fired back, they were growing impatient with his narration.

“Let just say… I have on tape the events of the past 10 minutes on how you guys abducted the corps member over there”…he said as he pointed his fingers in Akin’s direction, he deliberately avoided mentioning his name to prevent the soldier boys from knowing that he was familiar with Akin.

To them, he just wanted to play a Good Samaritan poking nose in their private issue.

“This one na fool oh, come where dem bring all of una come sef?”…the other private asked Tony rhetorically with so much disdain, Victor knew the guy was not convinced enough, but he knew what he was doing.

“I know I might not get out of this alive so I just sent copies of the file to two of my friends via whatsapp. With instructions that state that, should I fail to return with that tied corps member to the parade ground in 2 minute, they are going to project a very nice movie to the whole camp and it is going to be on a loop till everyone sees it”…he concluded as looked into the eyes of the two privates, he could see defeat.

He had won the mind game even though he knew the privates stood no chance in the first place, it was unfair for Akin to get away with some much bad attitude but all is fair in love and war they said.

“You would be surprised what a smartphone can do these days”…he said to the privates who by now had given up, you could feel the sarcasm laden in his tone as delivered the final nail in their coffin.

“We do not want get court – martial(ed) now, do we?”… He concluded with another rhetorical question, he had so much confidence the private could not question his claims.

“Na God save you”…Tony said to the kneeling Akin that still had blindfolds on his eyes, as Tony withdrew his whip.

The other private hissed and decided to leave the arena right away as you could hear them cussing Victor and arguing till their voices faded away with the night.

Even though Victor was using a Nokia phone that had no camera, he was able to win the battle with his head rather than his might, this scenario could be likened to the popular phrase of “the pen is mightier than the sword”

Victor basic instinct came to f.oreplay here, the awareness of his immediate environment saved him and Akin that night, because the projector he used to blackmail the privates did not work last time the camp officials tried to use it for a camp activity.

Neither did he have anything on tape nor had he sent any file to any of his friends and up until that very moment, he had no idea what the Privates final plan was all about, all he knew was their initial decision to deal with Akin.

“Thanks man… you are a lifesaver bro”…a now sober Akin said to him as Victor helped him remove the blindfold, you could see the surprise in Akin’s eyes when he saw him.

You!!!, how did you kn…he was about to ask when Victor cut in.

“Don’t thank me yet, as it is now your turn to save my life…he replied with so much seriousness as he untied Akin’s hands and legs.

“Those guys are going to come after me immediately we leave camp, so you need to work your magic with your father and get me posted to the same firm as yourself, maybe then I would accept the thank you”…he quickly retorted with so much concern in his voice.

“Done!!! Anything you want man, but wait I know you don’t own a smartphone, because I have never seen one on you since this camp opened. How were you able to tape or record anything in the first place”…a visibly surprised Akin asked, you could see the eagerness for the answer on his face.

“Two things…either I watch too many movies or maybe I just have a death wish, either way…I was able to get you out”…he replied with a gentle smile as they both made their way back to the parade ground.

“Could you please not tell anyone about what just happened”…Akin asked with so much meekness in his voice, a trait Victor has never seen him exhibit.

“And also can you provide the identity of those stupid guys?”…Akin asked

Nope!!! Victor replied accompanied with a nod of his head to acknowledge the earlier request.

“Hmmm”, Akin scoffed and he decided not to probe any further.

“My father would like you; you showed loyalty to my abductors by keeping their identities secret and remained loyal to me by keeping my secret. You, my friend have something that is very rare these days, loyalty!!!”…he concluded while they both made their way back amidst smiles as they joined other corps members to continue the merriment of the famous finale of the camp fire.

Op! Where our dialogue nau? I think it's essential for dialogue to take place in the story often. For example, you might have dialogued the Soldiers' conversation while victor was in the bush.
Just a little bit of opinion though.
Point taken, I will try to chip in more dialogues in the next post.

Thanks.

sorry for the very late update, GLO no try these past few days...let us continue shall we?

Victor and Akin met two years ago at NYSC orientation camp in Kwara State, they were bunkmates back then but they were not exactly close mainly because they had different approach to life…

Victor is from an average family, he had the proper upbringing that every normal kid would have; nothing was in excess, this made him more cultured and respectful. He also a temperament of the speak less and listen more type, the kind that think deep before he utter a word and pay attention to the tiniest of details to things that are oblivious to many people. He has always used these traits to his advantage like getting himself out tight situations, getting things done his way in a less obvious manner; he is always two steps ahead of his adversaries.

Akin on the other hand was a typical rich spoilt brat who also happens to be the only son of his family as such he was over pampered by his father although he did lose his mother when he was young this did not stop him from being hot headed and was always impatient, he was so used having his ways right from when he was little boy and he had less regard for anybody that was not his father as that was the only man he feared and respected.

Akin was a notorious “white fowl” during his time in the camp, as he stepped on toe of many officials most especially the soldiers in the camp but he was untouchable as not only does the regulations of the programme forbade manhandling of corps members, his father was a very influential politician in the country. We all know politicians as powerful as Akin’s father have strings they pull when they want things their way, so everyone who valued their jobs or position avoided reacting to tantrums threw by Akin. Everyone did a wonderful job of letting it slide even when they don’t seem too comfortable with that option.

Victor and Akin could be likened to two parallel lines whose path seem like it will never cross beyond the fact that they are bunkmates, but life had the last smile before the end of the orientation programme.

It was four days to the end of the orientation camp, that evening Victor who was really pressed and needed to answer the call of nature had rushed to his hostel restroom to ease himself, but the odour that ooze from the restroom could make a dead man turn in his coffin, he made a U- turn and decided to do his thing in the bush very close to his hostel, one thing must kill a man he said to himself as he made his way to the bush, it is better to die from a soldiers whip than die choking on the odour from another human body waste, at least you die a hero...he mused to himself as he gently made his way to the bush.

One quick look around to make sure no one was looking as he was trying hard to avoid being seen as that would definitely attract some punishment, he squat down like a little boy that is yet to get a hang of the water closet system, ready to do his thing, few minutes into what seem like heaven to him as he was finally relieved.

He sudden he heard footsteps and twigs breaking behind his back, he knew those were the guards he wanted to run but on a second thought, he just went into stealth mode, the guards were not looking for him in first place so why make them aware of his presence, “let me just finish what I started” he concluded in his mind.

True to his thought, the soldier were busy talking loudly about their escapades in camp, while Victor was busy eavesdropping and enjoying their talk, he smiled and shook his head in disbelief “this people no get chills at all, see as them dey dissect female corpers”. He said to himself
He continued to listen on but as the talk proceeded, something caught his attention when one of the soldiers said he really wants to deal with a rude “white fowl”, he decided to listen attentively and try really hard to determine the identity of the corps member from their talk. As fate would have it, the apple did not fall far from the tree as he could deduce from all indications it was none other than his infamous bunkmate, Mr. Akin Ilesanmi , “that was expected” he shook his head in affirmation.

Victor peeped really hard through the dry bushes trying to know the identity of the soldier and Bam!!! He could recognise one of the Privates as his yellow skin betrayed him in the darkness, there was only one light skinned soldier on camp, Private Tony the notorious playboy, his reputation does precedes him as he quickly connected the dot of his escapades he had narrated earlier.

The events of two nights ago played in his head, there was a clash of ego over a very pretty Fulani girl between the Private Tony and Akin at the popular Mammy market, although the cause of clash was made secret but everyone suspected it was over Halima as Akin had used his money and influence to win the affection of the pretty girl much to the chagrin of the fine soldier boy.

To begin with, all the odds were in favour of Victor’s bunkmate, the relationship between the Tony and Halima was inappropriate as it was totally unacceptable for an official to date a corps member, but we are only human and we cannot choose who to love, this fact gave Akin the undue advantage in the race coupled with his bad boy persona and influence, Tony stood no chance, he was pained and the climax of the cold war happened that fateful night as they had a heated exchange.

All the pretty boy soldier could do was shout “Bloody civilian!!!”, he knew he had lost to a blood civilian and there is nothing he can do about it in this situation, maybe if the scenario were a little different, he could have seriously dealt with Akin, but in the particular script he could not touch a hair on Akin’s head, should he try it, he knew the consequences of his actions would be dire, but if he can’t get Akin in the full glare of everybody, he always thought he could deal with him in closed quarters.

And that was exactly what the Private and one of his colleagues were planning that night in the bush, creating a strategic military plan that could be likened to the military coup that have ousted many head of states, the two private planned and dissected the idea of punishing Akin with so much gusto, that a war veteran would give these Privates a wonderful salute but unbeknownst to them Victor also was a master strategist and the last “white fowl” you would want eavesdropping on your civilian coup.

The penultimate night before the close of camp was the famous camp fire night, where every corps members celebrate and enjoy their last moments in the orientation camp, Victor who decided not to tell Akin about the evil plan of the privates, was keeping a very close tab on Akin and on the privates, as he knew something would definitely go down that night.

Few hours into the merriment, a visibly drunk Akin deviated from the lot of other corps members as he seem to pull down his trouser to urinate, he was oblivious of the fact that he had strayed a little too much from the whole lot. It was now or never for Private Tony to carry out his well laid out coup.

Like a guerrilla styled kidnap, Akin was abducted by the two privates, gagged and blindfolded and taken towards the secluded dark part of the vast Yikpata Orientation camp, Victor who seem like the director of the movie watched as everything unfolded and stealthily followed the two privates as they made their way to jungle.
