iNanaAma: They seem to generate out of "nowhere" because they are actually hatched larvae of some insects. Some insects lay their eggs in or on the shells so that their young ones will have a healthy start to life (at our eggs expense. We no go agree). This is also the case when the fly lays its eggs in a mature snail and the "maggots" larvae kills them. Do a restart of your farm. Change the substrate and bio secure your pens. ...as for the "fridge incubator" ..... eggs can be put in trays (sandwiched between moist soil) and placed in the different layers of the disused fridge) . What I am skeptic about is the need for air inflow. A bowl of water can be put in there to maintain high relative humidity. 1 Like |

iNanaAma: Hello and sorry about the late reply. (I have been neck deep in new projects. Not that I am complaining. MORE PROJECTS ARE WELCOME!). To your questions, 1. To protect Against flying insects, a layer of "mosquito or window netting" in addition to chicken wire will deter most insecta from accessing your pens. For crawling insects, apply insect powder (Piff paff , Rambo etc) around the outer fringes of your pens. Engine oil can be messy . Note. If you already have a huge infestation, I suggest removing your stock and sterilization of the soil substrate. 2. Do you mean a working fridge? No no no. Eggs require a temperature range of about 28-32 degrees Celsius. A working fridge will give you frozen eggs. Note. I can see an adaptation for an incubator with an old disused fridge in my head right now. I might be able to work out a good one if it was all I had. Please continue with soil and tray method or leave the eggs in the pen soil (after dealing with the insect problem). Cheers. 1 Like |

I had my mind on a flashsale for later this afternoon (D PS4 at 45% off. Yes! I De play game for old age.) BUT DECIDED TO START SHOPPING FROM THE HOT 2 BY MIDNIGHT. 1. I could not get the Hot 2. 2. I decided check for "other phones" if I could find a "normal good Friday deal". (Of course those "90% off " are limited) . NONE!!! just their normal prices in the usual fashion of 13% , 15% , 22% off. But of course we know say that na another "white lie". We know the price for market. 3. Noticed the main deals on offer (real deals) where in fashion and some small home appliances. Lalasticlala , this is a developing story you need to push. Modified- The best place to get deals are China based web malls. Gearbest , coolicool and aliexpress of course. You can see "50%" and you will not experience heart attack trying to get it. Lol. Make sure you hold your ATM card. |

plopapy: Good morning sir, Do you really treat snail "disease and infection"? Please, I know you have experience in the field. You should be stating you can provide pest and predator free housing, best management practices , feed solutions and so on. A "diseased or sick" snail dies more often than not. I am sure you don't have snail drugs as is the case in treatment of other farmed animals. Just my humble opinion and I might be wrong. Peace bruh! |

diddo: I would advice you build pens with cement blocks. I just finished a job upgrading a rotting wooden pen . The pics will give you an idea. NOTE- I RECOMMEND FREE RANGE SNAIL FARMING BUT YOUR FLOOR IS CEMENTED. FREE RANGE SYSTEM CAN BE SETUP FOR PRIVATE USE ON ABOUT 5SQM. IT CAN FORM A GARDEN AND WOULD PROVIDE YOUR FAMILY VEGETABLES SUCH AS CABBAGES , CARROTS, TOMATOES ON A REGULAR. FOR A PLOT OF LAND (60X120 FEET, A 15,000 CAPACITY CAN BE PUT IN PLACE. MODERN "STRESSLESS" FARMING. DECENT PROFIT MARGINS AFTER 8-12 MONTHS OF SETUP. OR THE INDUSTRIAL TYPE FOR 20ACRES I HAVE ALWAYS DREAMED OF AND WORKING TOWARDS THAT CAN RAISE 1.8MILLION THEORETICALLY. WHAT AM I TRYING TO SAY IN ESSENCE? ...SNAIL FARMING CAN BE DONE ON ANY SCALE AND THE BASIC PRINCIPLES HOLD AS THE MODEL BECOMES LARGER. Your 30,000 can build you 2 pens of 3blocks by 9blocks to 2blocks in height. That's 3x2 + 9x2 all multiplied by 2 (the height). 48 Blocks in all. Buy 55 Anyways! 2X2 wood lids framed with chicken wire and net mesh should form the pen cover. Fill with sterile sandy loam and follow the other things you have learned on the thread. Today is your lucky day mate as I usually charge for such information. (Who wants a competition anyways?). Stay good. Snail farming is a slow but stable way of making money. I can however maximise your margins by integrating mixed organic farming into the mix. To find out all out takes to start today, call or Whatsapp 080.30964896 To discuss your needs and receive professional planning, project setup, management etc. We are very affordable. 4 Likes 3 Shares

internetpo: The housing is not pest secure. remove the snails, pack out the soil substrate. you need to seal up the pen ground. the ants burrow up from their nests into the pen in search of food. You can heat the soil substrate by placing and tying in nylons and heating in huge pots or drums with water. Steaming is the key. Replace soil in pen and reintroduce snails after cooling. |

ViktorMartins: First of all, none of what you said above corroborates with your original comment below...# JJKADRY. Nice try but I noticed you didn't cut the unripe pawpaw into small sizes, it will save the snails a Lotta strength when eating. In your first bolded, cutting up food does not help snails in any way. Baby snails or adults. The scratch with tiny teeth on their tongue called a radula. It is the strongest organic matter in the whole world. (google and be educated).Chopping up feed will only accelerate decay. In your second bolded, a soil that is silty-loam is too water retaining and will kill off eggs easily. The OP has a sandy-clay soil. It would help him to get increase the organic component of his soil substrate anyways. Lastly, you mentioned those look like A. Marginata. Marginata hatchings are bigger and darker. I am sorry but even though the camera is blurry, such a hatch number (at the same time from the same clutch) can only be observed in A.A populations. A.Achatina it is. Happy sunday |

W3xy1: Sorry for the late reply sir, You should feed only when feed is exhausted in the pens. You should also remove rottening foods and replace with fresh feeds. Its best to understand them and give them a day's worth of feed at a time. 1 Like |
Agriculture / Re: Have You Ever Seen Some Days Old Snail Before? by lordhugo(m): 4:38pm On Nov 15, 2015 |
ViktorMartins: I am sorry but the OP is totally correct in using a large contiguous slice of pawpaw. 1. The flat planar areas help the young snails in moving around quicker. 2. The huge size of pawpaw has a large surface area. Less amount of area for bacteria to work on. Simply put, decay will be slowed. 3. The huge slice also serves as shelter for the young snails. This is especially true of using cabbage leaves. 1 Like |

EverestdeBliu: We should be careful not to mistake age with price. I discussed price under the premise that the snails were raised under 'organic and innovative methods'. For a well "farm raised" 1 year old snail....350-400 is achievable. Snails from the wild or improperly fed and managed would take 2 years to attain that size and hence, market price. For snails, size is price...not age. |
