how can a snail with egg be identify and also wat feed supplement should be given to it for the whole 6-8 month.

Sadly, it is hard or practically impossible to know a pregnant snail. (I am laughing right now). Do we have snail ultrasound?

However, there is an archaic method I use for guessing.

"pregnant" snails usually fill up their shell and find it hard to retract fully into their shells when handled.

On the other hand, this could be due to having well fed snails.(fatty orobo... The type all farmers like).

Did I make sense?

The solution to Tuta is more of preventive.

Traps work best.

Don't allow them reproduce or their young will multiply the problem exponentially.

I'm curious how did your tomatoes fare? I've read NOT to plant tomatoes with any of the brassicas as they inhibit tomato growth.

Hehe.
Tomatoes that i have sold.

The tomatoes did good. The brassicas do not inhibit growth. They simply use away the nitrogen that would have gone into making leaves for the tomatoes (inhibiting growth in a sense) while leaving more phosphates in the soil which helps flowering and fruit setting.

This is "common sense" as most organic and inorganic ferts available in the Nigerian setting are rich in nitrogen...

Imagine tomato likes dodo while brassicas love beans.
So it's like i gave both of them beans and dodo in one plate because the food seller doesn't sell one without the other. Let them sort out their feed themselves.

This is necessary because if tomato is in a nitrogen rich medium, it will get too leafy and bushy with less fruit.

(to others people- abeg brass I as are simply cabbage and its family members)

I planted in sacks recently and here they are...

Agriculture / Re: Processed Snails Sales : Bulk/retail Buy And Sale Thread by lordhugo(m): 2:49pm On Jul 08, 2016
This is current stock of processed snails ready for sale as at 08/07/2016.

I sell snails per Kg.

Prices are also dependent on the size of individual snails as well as the time of the year. Snails are more expensive in the drier months.

This stock is about 200kg and ready for sale in Lagos.

Agriculture / Re: Processed Snails Sales : Bulk/retail Buy And Sale Thread by lordhugo(m): 2:32pm On Jul 08, 2016
First of all,

What are processed snails?

Processed snails are mature snails which have been killed (humane means), cleaned, washed (the slime isn't pretty), and frozen (preferably) before sales are made to the consumer.

Many consumers today want to enjoy the crunchy but chewy meat of snails but are often put away by the tedious preparation. This has given rise to a huge market today locally. (Lets not even talk about export. a story for another day)

Hello N'landers,

After exposing many secrets about snail farming in my previous thread, see https://www.nairaland.com/2659715/a-z-snail-farming-nigeria-what , i have been inundated by calls most of which are from consumers and would be 'suppliers' who want to buy snails.

But guess what?

80-90% of consumers actually want it cleaned, washed and frozen. Infact, someone called once for peppered snails. grin

What am i driving at?

I can barely meet demands of people i have received calls from and thought it wise to create an online marketplace right here on NL.

1. I will help inexperienced farmers with methods of processing, packaging and so on.

2. You can post order requests as well as post stocks for sale.

3. All post of such in (2. above) should come with verification such as pictures or video.

4. All 22 rules of Nairaland remains in full effect on this thread. (especially number 21 smiley )

So, here we go...

Why not situated huge ranches along rivers and tributaries up North to be used as grazing reserves?

Cheap land is critical for commercial livestock farming.

Just irrigate with waters from rivers and plant silage making grasses.

Minister of agriculture, do you need my help?

This is not a 'fulani herdsmen' and religious angle.

Business / Re: Tomato Millionaires In The Making... by lordhugo(m): 8:54pm On Jun 06, 2016
Tomatoes farming is lucrative but also with a lot of pitfalls just at the OP rightly stated.

Your inputs in tomatoes farming have to be top notch and the most important input is the SEED.

All seeds have to have their right nutrient and environmental conditions met for optimum growth.

Some are best for rainy season... Others dry

Determinate varieties in open fields and greenhouses
Inderterminate in greenhouses only (but year round production)

I recommend East-west seeds Padma.
Very tolerant of heat and humidity and wonderful plum fruits.

I distribute vegetable seeds from cucumber to peppers, watermelon to cabbage...
...and tomatoes of course.

Attached are pictures of seedlings, after transplant and the fruits of padma.
