My fellow etche , Ikwerre and ika brothers and sisters in this site let me tell you something.if Ikwerre and etche were carved into imo and Abia states we would be be claiming Igbos today.i once hate Igbos with passion because I believe they easily dominate wherever they go and they seem proud however I discover I was only hating on myself .I like digging deep and I found the truth which is we are a different dialects of the Igbo people.

I strongly believe The hatred and denial began during the civil war , because my father told me how ojukwu was conscripting ikwerre and etche children into the army against their parents will. most of the boys never came back home alive maybe they died in combat.he also said they denied being Igbos because they heard how Nigerian soldiers massacred innocent Igbo civilians whenever they conquered any territory
So denying Igbos was a way to save their ass because it was a genocidal war lets not let people separate us from our brothers nature will punish us for it. It's more like a North and South Korea thing political borders is just what separates us that's all.I

What does Ikwerre people talk of themselves?

The Ogbakor Ikwerre Convention, a cultural organization of Ikwerre people, in a paper presented to the Human Rights Violation Commission headed by Rtd. Justice Chukwudifu Oputa on 10 October 2001, said:“Ikwerre ethnic nationality is not and has never been a sub-group of any other tribe in Nigeria including Ndi-Igbo. There is no doubt that the advent of the British and later regionalization put Ndi-Igbo at the helm of affairs in Eastern Nigeria. This brought Ndi-Igbo into Ikwerre land. In course of time, the Igbo took advantage of their position in the then Eastern Regional Government to grab land in Ikwerre and occupy political positions such as the mayor of Port Harcourt. In the process, Ikwerre along with other minority groups were marginalized and driven to the background.”

Just like Ogoni people have Ogoni Bill of Right, Ijaws have Kaiama Declaration, Urhobo have theirs same with Efik ans Ibibio, so is Ikwerre.

I'm not aware that anything has changed.

If I say some Igbos are threatened by the blessed Ijaw group, some people will call me "hater". This is one reason I will always side my people that Biafra is a wicked project aimed first at targting the Ijaws, and later other ethnic groups.

Let us address this issue:

1. At no time did ANY Ijaw leader in the old Rivers state tell anyone that Rivers state is for Ijaws. It is a fact that since the creation of Old Rivers state, elections into office of Governor was held only Three times. The first was in 1979 and was won by Melford Okilo, an Ijawman. The Buhari December 1983 coup means Okilo couldn't stay more than 4years in office. The secord was in 1983 but winners didn't stay more than two months before Buhari struck. The third was in 1991 and was won by Ada George, an Ijawman from Okrika. Ada George only stayed for 20nmonths before he was kicked out by Abacha in 1994. In total, Ijaws only spent 5years and 20months in government house in PH in the old Rivers state prior to Bayelsa creation.

2. Since the creation of the New Rivers state, Ijaws had a gentleman agreement with others that the uplanders produce the Governor in 1998. Odili, an Ndoni man was supported by the whole state. After staying for 8years, the Ikwerre made case for themselves. The Ijaws never opposed, we supported Omehia(2007) and Amaechi 2011 even against our own sons like Abiye Sekibo and Tonye Princewill from Okrika and Kalabari respectively. In 2015, the Ijaws(like me) are even in support of Wike(Ikwerre) more than fellow Ijaw(Peterside and Princewill). And someone call that domination?

Since 1999, the Ijaws have settled for Deputy Governors despite our spread and population. Our votes have never been divided. We believe in brotherly Rivers. Is that Dominance?

3. The so-called Portharcourt city did not start with Obi Wali. In fact, portharcourt as a city is sharply divided between Rebisi(Ikwerre) and Okrika(Ijaw).

4. While the OP tried to paint it like Ijaws killed Obi Wali, the truth is that Obi Wali was said to be killed by his own wife(an Ikwerre woman) in alliance with his political foes, Odili was fingered. Is Odili an Ijawman? This was said by Obi Wali's brother before Oputa panel in 2001.
