A bill for an Act to Provide for Establishment of a Federal Polytechnic, Aba, Abia State, on Tuesday passed second reading at the House of Representatives.

The bill titled: “A bill for an Act to Provide for Establishment of the Federal Polytechnic, Aba, Abia State; and for Related Matters (HB.1613)” emanated from the Senate.

The bill was seeking concurrence in the House for a second reading.

Moving the motion on the bill, Rep. Idris Wase (APC-Plateau), said it was important to pass the bill for such an institution in Aba.

Also, the Deputy Chief Whip, Rep. Pally Iriase, said that Aba deserved a Federal Polytechnic given the industrial ingenuity of the people of the area.

“It is good to lend our support and see reasons cogent enough to establish a federal polytechnic in Aba. This is one bill to my mind that is very well thought out.

“Aba is noted for industry and the ingenuity that today’s science can only help to improve upon. And no institution can do this better than a federal polytechnic.

“This is one bill that is nice for this House to pass,” Iriase said.

Similarly, Rep. Nkiruka Onyejeocha (APC-Abia), said that the establishment of the Polytechnic will assist the factories in the city.

“We have a lot of factories in Aba that if we establish a federal polytechnic in Aba, it is going to help a lot.

“We need federal presence in Aba. Mr Speaker, I appeal that our colleagues should please support the bill,” she said.

Rep. Betty Apiafi (PDP-Rivers), spoke in favour of the bill, saying it should be supported.

Similarly, Rep. Wole Oke (PDP-Osun), said, “Abia State deserves federal polytechnic in Aba. Abia is also an oil producing state. So, I support this bill,” Oke said.

Meanwhile, Rep. Uzoma Nkem-Abonta (PDP-Abia), said that though he was in support of the establishment of the institution, it should, however, be sited in the area that “lays the golden egg”.

Nkem-Abonta was referring to the oil producing zone of the state which he represents.

“We should look at the demography of the state. We should not forget the hen that lays the golden eggs. The area to site it is very important,” he said.

He then moved to propose an amendment to the bill to include the clause but was advised by the Speaker, Mr Yakubu Dogara, to do so at the Committee/public hearing level.

The speaker, in his concluding remarks to the debate, expressed surprised that Aba did not have a federal Polytechnic before now, insisting that it deserved one.

“It baffles me that we don’t have a polytechnic already in Aba. The location shouldn’t be a problem.

“If there is a place to establish a federal polytechnic in Nigeria, it should be in Aba. It is long overdue. When it gets to committee level, you can raise those issues,” he said.

When the bill was put to a voice vote by the speaker, it was unanimously adopted by the members and passed through second reading.

The President General of Igbo apex socio-cultural organisation, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Mr. Nnia Nwodo, has charged Nigerian women to rediscover their talents and stop over-dependency on men, adding, “he who dares wins.”

He said that the concept of ‘a woman is a passenger and not a partner’ should be discarded, stressing, “in all civilised climes, a woman gives love, respect and care not at a price but in reciprocity for her partner’s affection and care.”

Nwodo gave the charge in a keynote address on Thursday when Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom recognised Prof. Uche Azikiwe and Prof. Joy Ezeilo for their contributions to the cause of women in Nigeria.

The event held in Enugu.

He regretted that in Nigeria, notwithstanding that women are more than men, public offices are still dominated by men.

“Women find it difficult to mobilise themselves because most of them are economically dependent on men and find it difficult to pursue their convictions when such convictions go against the wishes of their male partners.

“You can’t have talent and hide it like a lamp under a bushel. You must not let people second-guess your abilities. It must be so uncomfortable to see things go so bad when you know that you can do them better,” he said.

While he identified economy of scale as a dire necessity in women emancipation programmes, Nwodo enjoined women to combine efforts and build stronger and broader-based organisation to reach out to more people rather than “have multiple unrecognisable and less impacting organisations.”

In her address, Prof. Joy Ezeilo commended the organisers of the event for identifying her effort in advancement of women’s cause in Nigeria.

A man recently took to social media to share unseen pictures showing the moment one Ebinebi Ernest, a youth leader in Ikoro community in Olodiama clan, Ovia North East Local Government Area of Edo state, was allegedly murdered by some former militants years ago.

According to Comrade Daniel Ezekiel Pere who shared the report online three days ago, Ernest was lured to the river side at Ajakurama town, Egbema kingdom under the guise of sorting out issues with one Robert Okubo (ex-militant leader) and his group. Ernest Ebinebi being one of the founders of Olodiama camp.

Ernest was said to have always kicked against Okubo's maltreatment and cheating of other youths who embraced amnesty in the community.

It was gathered that after being lured, several bullets were fired at Ernest but none could penetrate his body due to his 'spiritual fortification'. The thugs were said to have then attacked him with wood, bottles and other weapons until he became extremely weak and later died.

No single bullet wound was found on his body which was paraded by his alleged killers.

Comrade Daniel shared the report online while highlighting one of the alleged crimes committed by the former militant leader (Robert Okubo) and his brother, Pepe.

If by now you do not know that Daddy Freeze is out to pull you away from your journey towards discovering God, then I guess it's because you were never really on such journey. Today, a post he made on social media further proves what many are saying about him, that he's an Antichrist out forward to deceive many.

In the post he made, he stated that the books of Proverbs and Psalms were not written by Christians but by Solomon and David and we should not build our doctrines on them. See screenshot below.

What he has clearly said is that we should get a knife and cut out those two books from our Bible because they were not written by Christians. I think he just couldn't boldly day we should cut out the entire old testament, because those books therein where not written by Christians at all.

What he has clearly done is to preach heresy. Now, are we to follow his advice? No, because it will spell doom. We can't throw seat any portion of the Bible because they are a God's word given by inspiration and are all profitable for doctrine.

2 Timothy 3:16-17 (KJV)
16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:
17 That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

If the passage above says all scriptures written in the big are profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness so that a man of God may be perfect, then don't you think that you taking away the books of proverbs and Psalms will reduce us from being perfect?

Let's even examine the books he wants us to throw away.

We all know Psalm 23 and how powerful that chapter is. Freeze wants us to throw it away, meaning he wants to disarm us of that powerful weapon against the enemy.

What about the verse below from Proverbs the book of wisdom?

Both books contain solid messages which help build and strengthen our faith, yet Daddy Freeze says you should throw them away and build your faith on only Jesus, as if he really cares about Jesus. Yes, Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith, but the same Jesus said he didn't come to abolish the law and the prophets, rather he came to fulfill them.

Saudi Arabia’s head cutting specialist has revealed the chilling details of how he beheads Nigerians and other people sentenced to death for drug trafficking and other offences.

Muhammad Saad al-Beshi, a black man, stated this in a rare interview with Arab News, a Saudi Arabian newspaper.

According to the BBC, Al-Beshi is “Saudi Arabia’s leading executioner.” He leads a team of beheaders that execute prisoners from all countries including Nigeria.

Al-Beshi, who was born in 1961 (57 or 58 years old), claims to have executed 10 people in one day.

“It doesn’t matter to me: Two, four, 10 — As long as I’m doing God’s will, it doesn’t matter how many people I execute,” he once told a newspaper in another interview.

He started at a prison in the town of Taif, where his job was to handcuff and blindfold the prisoners before their execution. “Because of this background, I developed a desire to be an executioner,” he said.
He applied for the job and was accepted.

Al-Beshi performs executions using a sword. Occasionally he uses a gun. He also performs amputations of limbs when required under Saudi Arabia’s sharia law. He is married with seven children. He has been known to allow his children to help clean his sword.

“I deal with my family with kindness and love. They aren’t afraid when I come back from an execution. Sometimes they help me clean my sword.”
He added: “I successfully trained my son Musaed, 22, as an executioner and he was approved and chosen.”

Daily Advent reported yesterday that Saudi Arabia may behead 10 of the 23 Nigerian drug traffickers on death row in the country, on the same day, any time from now!

Al-Beshi cut off his first head with a sword in 1998.

A Nigerian woman, Kudirat Adeshola Afolabi, was beheaded about two weeks ago, although it was not stated whether she was executed by Al-Beshi.

Al-Beshi described his first execution in 1998.

He said: “The criminal was tied and blindfolded. With one stroke of the sword, I severed his head. It rolled metres away…People are amazed at how fast [the sword] can separate the head from the body.”

Al-Beshi also explained that in the case of someone convicted of murder, he visits the victim’s family before execution to seek forgiveness for the criminal.

If the family forgives the killer, it can lead to the criminal’s life being spared.
Once an execution goes ahead, his only conversation with the prisoner is to tell him or her to recite the Muslim declaration of belief, the Shahada.

He said the prisoners become weak out of fear before they are beheaded.
“When they get to the execution square, their strength drains away. Then I read the execution order, and at a signal, I cut the prisoner’s head off,” Al-Beshi said.

Public beheadings usually take place in Saudi Arabia around 9 am.
Deera Square in central Riyadh, the Saudi Arabian capital, is the location of public beheadings. The place is also known locally as “Chop-chop square” because it is where heads are “chopped off!”

The convicted person is walked into the square and kneels in front of the executioner. The executioner uses a sword known as a sulthan to remove the condemned person’s head from his or her body at the neck.
After the convicted person is pronounced dead, a police official announces the crimes committed by the beheaded alleged criminal and the process is complete.

The official might announce the same before the actual execution.

This is the most common method of execution in Saudi Arabia because it is specifically called for by Sharia law, which Saudi Arabia practices.
