Fellow Nairalanders, let’s talk about the biggest open secret in Lagos rentals: Why do landlords insist on "one year upfront or even more" even when tenants are clearly struggling? I used to think it was just greed—until I spoke to a property lawyer who dropped this truth bomb: "Landlords are scared. Scared of tenants who vanish after 3 months. Scared of Lagos’ broken eviction process. Scared because no system protects them either." But here’s the twist: Lagos govt has been quietly holding talks with within its administration also with proptech firms about rental reforms who have already started executing this model (monthly payment models, tenant-landlord mediation boards, etc.). New estates in Lekki/IKOYI are already testing flexible rent—with zero defaults so far. So, the real question is: Can Lagos realistically shift from yearly rent? *Would you pay 5-7% more monthly to avoid bulk yearly payments?* What’s stopping your landlord from trying it? Drop your thoughts below! (P.S. For more on how to negotiate monthly rent today—even without govt policies—check this out: [see more here]) |
Fellow Nairalanders, let’s talk about the "manage now, suffer later" cycle we’ve all fallen into. You know the drill: - That freezer that hums louder than a generator but barely cools. - The phone that restarts mid-call, yet you’ve "repaired" it 3 times this year. - The generator that drinks fuel like water but "just needs one more fix." We tell ourselves: "Let me manage it till next salary"—but here’s the painful truth: Managing is often MORE expensive than upgrading. 🔴 The Hidden Costs: Energy Waste: Old appliances = crazy PHCN bills. Time Loss: How many hours have you wasted troubleshooting? Stress: That anxiety when your fridge starts blinking again. 🔵 Why We Don’t Upgrade (Even When We Should) It’s not about wanting better—it’s about affording better. A ₦500k inverter or ₦700k fridge feels impossible when salaries haven’t kept up with prices. 🟢 A Smarter Way? What if you could: Pay just 35% down payment for that fridge/phone/inverter? Spread the rest over months WITHOUT interest? Ditch the repairman visits for good? (No, this isn’t a loan app. It’s called Fair by SmallSmall—made for Nigerians tired of the "manage" struggle.) Pls check the Playstore or Appstore to make your own findings. Question for the House: - Have you ever calculated how much "managing" costs you long-term? - Would you try a 35% upfront option if it meant finally upgrading? Let’s discuss! |
If you live and hustle in Lagos, you probably know the drill: That phone with the cracked screen, apps that freeze during Zoom calls, a gen that drinks fuel like it’s garri water… all in the name of “managing.” But what if I told you that this kind of managing is actually costing you more? 😩 Let’s break it down: 🔹 Constant repairs — ₦8,000 to ₦20,000 a pop 🔹 Power banks & adapters — ₦15,000+ a year 🔹 Fuel runs + gen maintenance — ₦40k to ₦60k every month 🔹 Missed deadlines, lost productivity — who even calculates the stress? Now here’s the kicker: Most of us spend over ₦100k every few months just trying to hold on to tech and appliances that should’ve been upgraded long ago. 😓 But guess what? You can upgrade smarter — not harder — with just 35% upfront using the Fair App. ✅ Get phones, laptops, inverters, and more ✅ Pay the rest little by little — no interest ✅ Ditch the fuel stress, fix cycles, and surprise costs 📌 Curious how it works? I broke it down here |
Lagos landlords don turn everybody to silent tenants. One year you’re paying ₦800k, next year na ₦1.3M. No warning, no conversation — just vibes and pressure. But the question is… Is it even legal? A lot of us don’t know our rights, and landlords use that to collect anything they like. But Lagos Tenancy Law actually has rules. Yes — rules. Here’s what you should know (real quick): ✔️ Your landlord is supposed to give notice before increasing rent ✔️ There are limits to how short or long that notice should be ✔️ You can challenge crazy increases (there’s a tribunal for that) ✔️ If you don’t have an agreement or lease, you’re more vulnerable I just read a blog post that breaks everything down clearly — even how to rent monthly and avoid all this sudden shege. It’s worth the read if you rent in Lagos or plan to soon. 🔗 Click here for full info... |
Lagos Rent Wahala: Can Your Landlord Just Increase Your Rent Like That? 😤 Lagos landlords don turn everybody to silent tenants. One year you’re paying ₦800k, next year na ₦1.3M. Well, first thing is self realization and I really appreciate the fact that you have call yourself to reality. I would advise you get on something that would put money in pocket more often so that if Front End Dev is still a passion, you can run it on the side but not as a major source of income. If you wanna reach out, just email me. |

Now, which is harder... I'd say Web Programming, as you really are in control of what you're doing, meaning you have to be really skilled in the art. Most profitable, this will depend on how you see it. If saving time equals profitability for you, then do WordPress, but if complexity of projects define profitability, then web programming. And yes, your desktop computer will do just good, but with time, you'd understand what you need based on your choices. Find courses online. Coursera, Edx, even YouTube..... Just pick one that works for you. If you're still schooling, it means you got time on hands. Now it's still left to you, cos it boils down to profitability. If you do one, it doesn't stop you from doing the other. So you can start with WordPress so you grasp what whole idea of user interface, then delve into proper backend development once you feel you can. Muchas gracias..... |
Now, both WordPress and Web Programming are modes of web design. WordPress deals more with plugging and templates which takes little to no time to understand and execute with little to no programming skills. Web Programming on the other hand is getting yourself versed in the art of using programming languages to build and develop web services, be it websites are web applications. So you choose your forte based on your capability. |

Another External hard disk connector sir. The one you're using might be defective. Or did the former hard drive fall? Or was kept beside a magnet, cos these can cause defective hard drives as well. |
