The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed withdrawing the six policemen attached to the Chairman , Five Star Group, Emeka Okonkwo aka E-Money.

The Police Public Relations Officer , Bala Elkana, said this during an interview with The PUNCH on Tuesday .
He said, “ I can confirm that E-Money ’ s policemen have been withdrawn. We were ordered to do so and the directive has been complied with . I do not know the reason for the order at this time .

The PUNCH had exclusively reported that E-Money had become the subject of a police investigation for his flamboyant lifestyle and alleged misuse of orderlies .

E-Money, who is the brother to musician, Kingsley Okonkwo aka K -Cee , was said to have drawn the ire of the police boss for using policemen like domestic servants .
An order , it was learnt, was immediately issued to the Lagos State Police Command to withdraw the six policemen attached to E-Money.



The IG was surprised that policemen were attached to him in the first place and were being used as domestic servants, carrying umbrellas , opening doors and doing menial jobs for him.

The policemen were discovered to be attached to B Operations at the command headquarters and not MOPOL which is the usual practice . So, we have withdrawn his policemen and we are inviting him for questioning . The policemen will also be interrogated .

This is a step in the right direction.

There is absolutely nothing that an insane man who is hungry cannot do. He can kill just to have food on the table. He can set a house ablaze for a bottle of beer. He can do anything. But a sane man who is hungry can still resist evil and wait for when food would come the right way. Instead of sabotaging one's image for a plate of soup, he would rather choose to learn, prepare and wait fro when his luck would come.

The writer of the article captioned "Creeping Tyranny in the Land of Promise" must have been an insane man who is hungry. He has thrown away morality and professionalism to the dogs just to satisfy his belly. But come to think of it, is he really from Akwa Ibom? Methinks he is just one of those emergency hungry writers who shamelessly criticize to deceive the gullible.

For attempting to deceive the people even when the difference between the administration of Godswill Akpabio and the present one is outstandingly clear, let me remind him that he that must go for equity must go with clean hands.

Even our children can confidently testify to the fact that we can now sleep with our two eyes closed at night without fear of men of the underworld. It wasn't so in Akpabio's tenure. You can quote me anywhere.

Akwa Ibom then was seen as a den of social vices and immorality. People hardly travelled to the state for fear of being kidnapped. They would rather stay in Lagos or Abuja and asked people to stand in for them instead of taking such unholy risk of flying to the state.

What of politically motivated killings? This one is a no-go-area. We have even lost count of those killed during Akpabio's tenure. The children of Chief Ukpanah will never forgive whosoever that mastermindiled the gruesome murder of their father at his residence at Abak. And as if that was not enough, they also went after the man's only son, Odudu Ukpanah, to slaughter him like they did to the father. But thanks to God that the boy was flown out. Which one is the writer saying Akwa Ibom was the envy of all and sundry during Akpabio's tenure? Have we forgotten in a hurry how journalists were molested during his tenure? The case which involved Tomas Thomas of Global Concord is still fresh in our memory, and the hell that the fearless writer went through in Akpabio's hand. Maybe it's true that the State was the envy of all, but I think it's pertinent to ask, envy in what aspect?

When he talked about Akwa Ibom being a trail blazer in infrastructural development during Akpabio's tenure, I wonder what he really meant by that. I wonder whether the paid blackmailer had attempted to find out the allocation of the state as at then, the money from excess crude oil, and many other funds of unimaginable figures given to the state as at then. Akpabio enjoyed what his predecessor Arc. Obong Victor Attah fought for. If we compare the amount available during Akpabio's tenure and what he achieved, you will understand that Gov. Udom Emmanuel has done so much with paucity of funds than what Akpabio did in affluence.

Even at that, Akpabio left many projects abandoned. Four Point by Sheraton is a testimony to his people. Are we going to talk about Ibom Tropicana or the E-library? Let that one be for another day. Worse still, he left the state treasury empty. He raped the financial future of the state before he exited office and left huge debt for Gov. Udom Emmanuel. Yet, the governor looked beyond the myriad of problems his political "driver" kept for his "passenger", according to the blackmailer. Is this fair? Akpabio before leaving the State number one seat had used us as the collateral for his political ambition. He had mortgaged our common heritage. Please don't remind us of those days. Just let the sleeping dog lies.

The writer has shown the world his level of ignorance in terms of deciphering between blackmail and criticism. Gov. Emmanuel is the most insulted governor of all times, courtesy of his predecessor who has abandoned his supposed "national assignment" to sponsor blackmail on him. Yet, in his unassuming and dignified humility, he overlooked all the insults. Or, is the writer referring to George Udom and Kufre Carter's cases that he is calling the governor a tyrant? This is funny. The duo published fake stories that did not only misinform members of the public, but created panic of indescribable proportion, such that could have killed many, than the pandemic but not for the intervention of state actors. The law interpreted itself in those cases. Defamation of character is an offence punishable by law, just as offence against the security of a state. I think he would do more good to himself by going back to his elementary social studies textbooks if he had any. Or should we organize an online elementary education and orientation for him?

This is not time for "politics", but time for governance. The governor has stood his grounds to deliver on the overwhelming mandate that Akwa Ibom gave to him. He is one of the few governors openly applauded by the Nigeria Center for Disease Control(NCDC) for his excellent achievement in contact tracing. Most of the productive results recorded so far in the fight against covid-19 in Akwa Ibom are as a result of the pragmatic effort of the governor and the covid-19 incident management team. The 300-bed capacity isolation center at Ituk Mbang that is near completion is a landmark achievement of our visionary leader at a time when no one had prepared for it.

Let no one deceive the writer, Akwa Ibom is the most safest state in Nigeria. Journalists who know their onions are carrying out their profession without any form of intimidation. Before the pandemic, the number of investors that came into the state for business purposes is still a testimonial that is equal to none in recent memory.

I would rather advice the former senator to concentrate on his job as minister, which is even alleged to be laden with fraud and fake contracts, and stop distracting a governor who has surpassed him in terms of infrastructural development, honesty and transparency in managing funds and general governance.

The Nigerian Constitution has attempted to provide answers to almost all questions concerning the government and the governed, most importantly, insisting that nobody is above the law.

The recent case of defamation concerning one Kufre Carter is one that the Constitution has a strong voice against and the consequences are stated expressly. But what is of great concern to us is the manner by which the defendant's so called lawyer, Inibehe Effiong is making noise about the case. The young school leaver appears more energetic dragging his arguments and sentiments to the social media, with little or nothing left to be presented before their lordships.

A brilliant lawyer knows that judgements on the social media do not translate to judgements in the court. The court is only bound by the volume of evidences before it and not the quantity of paid insults and verbal abuses on the internet which have already pronounced victory for the accused. The misfirings by the attention seeking facebook lawyer, is a warning to sane minds, never to engage a lawyer who only knows how to make empty noise fused with insults. The accused, from indications may have hired a lawyer who is more interested, not in solving the matter, but flapping for recognition. Egoisitic lawyers only bury their clients in the deep waters and move on to look for other unsuspecting preys.

Cases are won through accurate presentation of facts. What is the essence of jumping into a case without proper preparation? How does a thousand insults hurled at the Governor of his state, help the case by Inibehe and his client? Is the trial judge on Facebook? What is the Twitter handle of the Chief Judge?



The law is the framework by which the system of government exists and no matter how much noise one makes in the media, it will not alter the operation of the law. Common sense demands that Inibehe Effiong should leave his quest for popularity as this case is beyond seeking sympathy from the media and other individuals who are guided by emotions. It is beyond converging emergency court sessions and making unnecessary press releases on Facebook and Twitter. Is Inibehe Effiong a social media lawyer?

Since the case was instituted, I have followed the defendant's lawyer with keen interest and come to realize that instead of following legal processes to see to the success of his case, he is showing a clear sign of ineptitude, gross incompetence with a recourse to playing to the gallery.

One attribute of good lawyers is that they give their clients good counsel. They seek possible ways of winning cases, and not to aggravate the situation. I make bold to say that if a smart lawyer was sought to mediate for Kufre Carter and not Inibehe Effiong, the case would have become history by now.

I am not a lawyer, but the application of common Sense would make one to understand that there is no way the SSS would release Kufre Carter without meeting his bail conditions. Again,the court was silent about where Kufre Carter should be kept, hence his stay in the custody of the SSS. Instead for the defendant's lawyer to see it in this light, he is abusing and insulting everyone.

Even the Honourable Minister of Information Lai Mohammed in his reaction had clearly affirmed that once someone is charged to court, there is nothing that can be done than plead for clemency or allow the rule of law take its course. This is the kind of lecture needed by textbook lawyers like the infant in this purview. Instead, he has chosen to blow his trumpet the way he feels and devised illegal and emotional means to facilitate the release of his clients. Winning election on the social media does not culminate to winning election at the polling unit. This is a lesson I have learnt over the years, and I had expected our brother and his cohorts to understand this much, if actually he is learned.

This brings us to the issue of a video by Mama Carter allegedly at the precinct of the Uyo State Security Headquarters. It is enough to appreciate that there must be that natural love of a mother who cherishes and has emotional attachments with her son. There is no mother that won't be emotional about her son who is incarcerated, but for a lawyer to use that as his strong argument is a display of incompetence. But is this part of the facts that Inibehe will present before the court tomorrow?

I am not saying that the mother should not visit her son, neither do I support that she be denied access, on the contrary, all suspects have the liberty of controlled visits by their counsel, relatives or concerned individuals. However, parents should see the opportunity of the freedom and uninterrupted access they have with their children to caution them against putting themselves on the wrong side of the law. Whether on the social media, regular media or ora media, the laws of defamation, sedition, obscenity and other violation of other people's rights, suffice.

We should not be oblivious, that those hurt in the course of the media onslaught are equally people with parents and families.

Since nobody is above the law, whoever is seeking equity, should first wash his hands clean.

In Biafra, under three years, they were making their own rockets and calculating its distances; distilling their own oil and making aviation fuel, creating in their Chemical and Biological laboratories, new cures for diseases like Cholera, shaping their own spare parts, and turning the entire East into a vast workshop, as Ojukwu put it.

At the end of the war, the Ukpabi Asika regime brought together these Biafran scientists and set up PRODA. The initiative led, in the first five years between 1970-1975 under the late Prof. Gordian Ezekwe and Mang Ndukwe, to designs of industrial machinery models and prototypes for the East Central State Industrial Masterplan, which remain undeveloped even today. The Murtala/Obasanjo regime took over PRODA in 1975 by decree, starved it of funds, and basically destroyed its aims.

Secondly, Federal government policies centralized all potentials for innovation and entrepreneurship. Before 1983, states had their Ministries of Trade and Industry. These were charged with local business registration, trade, and investment promotion, and so on. But today in Nigeria, if you wish to do any business, you'd have to go to Abuja (it used to be Lagos) to register under the Corporate Affairs Commission. It used to be that local business registration was state and municipal functions. The concentration of the leverage for trade utterly limited Igbo entrepreneurs, particularly in the era of import licensing, once your quota was exhausted, you could not do business.

This affected the old Igbo money in Aba and Onitsha, who were the arrow-heads of innovation and traditional partners in the advance of Igbo industrial economy. It is remarkable that as at 1985, a least by a book published by the Oxford Economist Tom Forrest in 1980, The Advance of African Capital, the Igbo had the highest investment in machine tools industries in all of Africa, and the highest depth of investment in rural, cottage industries. In his prediction in 1980, if that rate of investment continued, according to Forrest in 1980, the Igbo part of Africa would accomplish an industrial revolution by 1987. Now, by 1983/85, Federal government policies helped to dismantle the growth of indigenous Igbo Industry through its targeted national economic policies. As I have said, there is a corollary between industrial development and innovation.

Thirdly, the severe, strategic staunching of huge capital in-flow into the East starved Igbo businesses and institutions of the capacity to utilize or even expand their capacities. There were no strategic Federal Capital projects in the East. There were no huge infrastructural investments in the East. The last major Federal government investment in Igbo land was the Niger Bridge which was commissioned in 1966. Any region starved of government funds experiences catatony and attrition. Private capital is often not enough to create the kind of synergy necessary for innovation. Rather than invest in the East, from 1970 to date, the Federal government has strategically closed down every capacity for technological advancement in the East and stripped that region of its capacity.

By 1966, the Eastern Nigerian Gas masterplan had been completed under Okpara. But in its review of a Nigeria gas masterplan, the Federal government strategically circumvented the East. Oil and Gas are under Federal oversight. The Trans-Amadi to Aba Industrial Gas network/linkage had been completed in 1966, to pipe gas from Port-Harcourt to Aba. The Federal government let that go into abeyance and uprooted the already reticulated pipes. The East was denied access to energy with the destruction of the Power stations during the war.

The Mbakwe government sought to remedy this by embarking on two highly critical area of investment necessary for industrial life: the 5 Zonal water projects, which were 75 completed by 1983, and set for commissioning in 1984, which was to supply clean water for domestic and industrial use to all parts of the old Imo state, and the Amaraku and Izombe Power stations, under the Imo Rural Electrification Project. These were the first ever massive independent power projects ever carried out by any state government in Nigeria which would have made significant part of Igbo land energy independent today. The supply of daily electricity was possible in Imo as at 1984. The Amaraku station had come on stream, and the Izombe Gas station was underway, when Buhari and his men struck.
