That’s why he is contesting against his benefactor. The electorates will see that he has demonstrated his moral bankruptcy twice now. That’s enough to nail him. Cannot win the primary. subsidywise18: Okay, if you were selling shoes at N30000 after buying them at N28000 a pair, and government forced you to sell them at N20000 a pair, and paid you a subsidy that did not cover the resulting N10000 loss, would you be happy?
Plus, GSM has never been subsidsed in this country. As a result it made enough of a profit to plant all the antenna you see, and to expand services even to rural areas.
If you want a subsidy, then fund it as do other countries via taxes...and that means taxing eveyrone from the farmer, the cattle rearer, the hawker and the rich elite...to pay for it. Not using oil revenue like we do here. I'm not in support of subsidy but I'm saying that Nigerian Elite is sabotaging Nigerians. Take away subsidy and they will sabotage the country. The point is why do we have to subsidize fuel if we have a function Refinery? The impact of the fall on naira is one of the major driving force of inflation. Do you know how much forex goes to fuel importation? To run an economy is not about looking from one end(focus on subsidy) It has to be tackled from all ends. |
Politics › Re: Amid Fuel Scarcity, Group Picks APC Presidential Forms For Timipre Sylva by loswhite(m): 6:31am On May 10, 2022 |
subsidywise18: If you want fuel scarcity to go, then the subsidy has to go and fuel has to be sold at market prices.
That is the solution. Minister Sylva is an opportunistic politician, but even he knows that that is the solution.
The thing is, if marketers and NNPC are not allowed to import fuel at a profit, scarcity results. NNPC cannot make a profit for over 20 years because bringing in fuel that costs over N200 and selling it at N160, and then getting paid a subsidy that comes from the government's expenditure...and that rises due to rising prices of crude oil......is not the way forward.
And yes, the corruption is a side effect of the subsidy regimen. Deny someone the ability to make a profit and you will see wonders.
If countries like Niger, Benin, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Ghana, who are at our level or lower can pay higher for fuel, and if most fuel producers can pay higher than we do for fuel...then why are we decieving ourselves.?
Also, if we refine fuel at home, will we sell it below the cost of refining it, and pay a subsidy that does not cover the resulting loss because we must have cheap fuel.?
Has our economy grown after over 40 years of cheap fuel?
We better wake up and face reality.
ADDENDUM
You want to quote me? Then read this first. Do countries like Ghana use petrol to run Business? An elite that is bent on sabotaging this country will still sabotage it. You don't need subsidy to steal money as politicians. A country can openly tell you dey spend billions on refinery and yet it is still not working..lol. They openly tell you they spend billions on power and yet no light..lol. my brother the country is sabotage by the elite. |

Politics › Re: Petrol Queues Resurface In Abuja by loswhite(m): 8:23pm On May 08, 2022 |
subsidywise18: Nowhere awful
This is happening because Nigerians insist on selling something at N165 , which costs N300 and above to refine. (even if we refined all our petrol at home, even if Dangote started refining).
NNPC gets paid something called a subsidy to keep it from collapsing under the contradiction. That subsidy has been hard to maintain for over 30 years now, because, unlike other countries, we pay for it from oil revenue (and thanks to higher crude prices, and higher prices of petrol as a result, the subsidy has grown so large that it is eating into government revenues.).
We have been told, several times, since 1993 , and even earlier to remove this thing called a subsidy. But since most of us think that it is better, it remains, and it drains our economy. It is also a big reason why domestic refining, until recently...is in a bad state here.
All this will end if subsidy goes. But because it means that fuel would cost above N350....and since we are too 'poor' to pay it, we keep on keeping it. At our expense.
Modified
Bloomberg has a report on one of the negative aspects of subsidy'. For those quoting me, I suggest you Google for it. Go and advise your foolish Government. Majority of the consumption is to power Generators. Bloomberg should advise them to fix the power sector |

subsidywise18: Because they cannot charge enough to make enough profit to pay for meters and that stuff.
By law, they operate at a loss. Operate at a loss, and then providing enough power becomes difficult. Where they operating at a loss when they bought in 2014? Do you remember the payment of service charges in 2014? 750 for single phase monthly in respective of you having light or not. 750* just a million house will give you 750 million for distributing zero electricity. Did they complain about selling at a loss? Did they metre the customers then? Please there is no one that will borrow money to run a company at a loss so they should come and tell us what we don't know. Finally what do you think should be the right amount for us to pay for them to be profitable? And if we do pay that amount will they give you a good voltage that will not make you to incur cost on stabilizers? Stabilizers are over a 150k now. |
Politics › Re: We Haven’t Approved New Electricity Tariff – NERC by loswhite(m): 12:15pm On May 07, 2022 |
subsidywise18: Well, they will have to.
1.Cost of business is rising due to the international rise in oil prices...which also affects gas.
2.Power companies are running at a loss, and even with government subsides (supposedly discontinued this year, but still around, IMHO), they still lose at least N1 trillion a year, because it is NERC, not the sector, that sets tarrifs.
3.The value of the naira is falling because we run an economy based just on the cost of crude oil...and right now , even with the rise in oil prices, we have to pay off debts, plus feed the subsidy monster...which means ....not enough forex to keep the value of the naira up.(We still have to save something too).
Ye cannot pay for power less than the cost it takes to produce power, and expect to have power 24/7. Ye have GSM because you pay for their service at the cost the GSM companies set.
Below: Page from the PwC report on power. Solving the liquidity crisis in the Nigerian power sector. The big question should be, how can a private company that is unable to metre customers for after 8 years distribute electricity? We can pay for a cost reflective tariffs but it cannot be base on estimated billing. Why are the disco so happy to sit on estimated billing? |
