Guys, between Lexus Rx350 2014/2015 model and Toyota Highlander 2013 model, which one is better, or which one would you recommend for a first timer buyer of car or which is more easy to maintain in this country?

Maintenance would be almost the same on both vehicle, both vehicles share most part also
The Lexus would just have more expensive body part compared to the highlander.

Mechanic tearing down engine sounds like a disaster o. E no no get any other way around this ?

If giving to competent tech you have no need to worry it’ll work just fine. Because, at the end of the day if truly there isn’t any external leak you’d still have to open up the engine if it’s already wearing out or worse case get a replacement which isn’t cheap

Another question, that light that looks like Halogen light they put in the car or head lamp, does it shines brighter than head lamp bulb

Am contemplating putting it and remove the head lamp bulb

I feel like the car actually has a halogen bulb currently installed but you’re referring to all those newer led bulbs they sell right?
I have included some pictures below of original and the one you’re contemplating installing. If that’s the case, yeah the Leds shine brighter but they also run extremely hotter so pls buy the right size led bulb nothing bigger than what it can handle or else you risk burning headlight housing

You’ll have to visit a mechanic with such tool to be able to do that. If it’s up too spec, you might have to have your engine torn down to check for worn out component

Dear Friends

I imported a 2014 Toyota Camry SE edition sometime in December 2024. Every thing was going on well till i discovered the car is shorting oil and had to top up.

My mechanic scanned the vehicle and suggested we change the PCV Valve(Positive Crankcase ventilation Valve). The PCV valve has been changed and still i am experiencing the oil Shutting.

Mind you we have checked for Oil leakages every where and couldn't find any, and the Engine is not smoking.

I will appreciate any suggestions here to troubleshoot this. I am scared of having further encounter with a mechanic so that things dont get worse

How are the spark plugs like are they oily. You might need to do a compression test just to confirm state of the piston rings

The one you mentioned, where do you usually get it for your highlander

Another thing is I would suggest getting Mobil one of you would be using that specific brand ( preferably the one imported they are much more better compared to the ones sold at petrol stations

I get it from an associate who works with a company that is affiliated to the Liquimoly brand

The oil specification is 0W-20 or 5W-20 but I can't find it.
can I use 5W-30 or 5W-40 Mobil oil on it

You can use 5w30 for your Rav4, just try getting from a reputable brand.( make sure the mobil oil is legit there are a lot of fakes)
Also, there are reputable brands you can get 0w20 or 5w20, like this highlander, I used Liquimoly 0w20 because I’m getting it from a trusted source.

Thanks to everyone's input, I finally settled for a Honda accord 2010, bought it last week, very sweet ride at 4.7m in Abuja. So far, it's been a fantastic ride. The car is super smooth and sweet to drive, you could mistake it for a direct toks, it has a mileage of 84k

I just added cash to get something good that isn't too oldskool. I hate Toyota cars in general for their bland designs

well, I would have gone for the RX but it's too common in my state and it's usually associated with yahoo boys. Besides I already have the ES 350. I just want something classy and unique. You can also suggest a classy SUV apart from the ones I mentioned but not the RX please.

Get the Gx then, has the prestige you need and it’s also a nice reliable truck too

They are all great vehicles,
- in terms of reliability the rav4 takes the lead, that doesn’t mean the other two are bad they are great buys too ( from my personal experience with the Crv their starter kinda fails often, but that isn’t a big issue per say )
- in terms of economy the accord takes the lead. again this all depends on the current condition of the particular vehicle, a car with a bad air fuel sensor would obviously lead to bad gas mileage, so do your due diligence while purchasing
- the rav4 for a first timer would be easier to use, it’s a much simple cuv ( but owner has to be good with maintenance cause price of major part can be pricy)
Final verdict- they are all nice vehicle and I think for now it’s all depends on your preference
