Calculia: The east has oil, with indigenous companies at the processing stage. Orient comes to mind. They have a manufacturing base,Innoson comes to mind, fertile land for agriculture and excellent service sector, onitsha comes to mind and the knowledge based economy in Enugu.Quite the opposite, you have said what every IBO man would , the little oil in the east , the factories in the east and dwindling agricultural land (we all know there is no land in the east, lands does not just sit in the east like other regions in Nigeria. Going back to your statement of production levels in the east. A basic lesson in supply and demand will educate on the need for a market who is willing to buy your goods at a certain price. The east produces nothing China India or Ghana can't do for a fraction of the cost , with the appropriate incentive. To Niger-delta (core oil producing states), we are yet to receive any formal statement or recognition of the entity entity Biafra from them , pls point me to it, if any exist. And, if my memory serves me the SS never did support the Biafra entity back then, why start now. The real question on easterners mind should be how they will survive on their own without other oil producing states. |
Let's assume the east, is granted Biafra. How do Easterners intend to survive and grow economically, taking into consideration the fact that the Niger-Delta and core oil producing states have not indicated interest or any formal recognition of the east purported struggle for freedom and autonomy. How's will biafran states survive and can we have a clear definition of the entity "Biafra". May you grow wiser as you contribute. |
semitunde: Let's assume what you predict becomes a reality. You think after the separation, everyone would go their way and live happily ever after right? Don't be naive, this is real life not a story book. Unless Biafra forges some sort of alliance, it will either be run over or be the victim of consistent power show by its neighbours, including south south. The real issue, is that the east will suffer most, and will need to continuously beg the international community for aid. Biafra is least prepared for a break away. They dont have the market size to sell goods, as Lagos will grow economically the north as well due to access via road and water ways and proximity to other economically viable entities, such as Togo Cotonou Ghana Niger Sudan and tchad via land. Nigeria barely feeds itself let alone the east. Most of the food and livestock can be grown in mass quantities only in the north. The niger-delta will be happy to sell crude to dangote oil refinery , which wont be the only refinery for obvious reasons. As for security, the north will rarely have issues cos it rarely had any in the past, except for religious unrest which will be brought to a minimum. Northeners both muslim and Christian northerners alike - that God did not create all men as equals hence not all men will be wealthy or enjoy great prosperity: they believe strongly in pre-destined circumstances. The east in particular different, the low level of trust and loyalty remains a threat to the east unison they so dream off - I don't need to expand on this as we all have read the gory and inhumane st EBories from the east. The nigerdelta has grown wise, amnesty and the nddc have shown them, truly oil money flows like a river. And with their experience in combat and all. It would quite easy for the SS to eliminate any opposition or attempt to control resources from easterners. Remember they never supported Biafra. |

I had the privilege of reading a post by one "evergreeen123" here in the politics section on Nairaland. And, the poster made an attempt to drive the 'carved' truth as I like to put it - that the north dominates the oil fields/blocks ownership lists. It's quite unfortunate, our children have refused to spend a few minutes on the internet to dig into matter's that interest or concern them and it seems this ailment is only ever present when it comes to politics of north and south. It would be morally wrong and a travesty to allow such "carved" truth remain undebated or considered, hence this thread. Here are a few points to note: 1. The north does not control 83% of the oil wells in this country. 2. Multinational companies, as well as the NNPC own over 80% of the oil wells in this country. 3. The list which holds the names of oil well owners has as many Yoruba, Hausa and Igbo names on it. Evergreeen123: Gej is the one playing the game the Niger deltans cant win. He has placated all the northern PDP big wigs with the promise of oil blocs in other to garner their support against his re-election ambition.Liar , Liar Pants on Fire.... I sincerely hope you are not referring to the 'carved' list of oil block owners in Nigeria present by Sen. Ita Enang. We all know he 'carved' the list to suit his purpose - like you have done in the unfounded and baseless statement above. Contrary to widespread half truths - several ibo men own oil blocks in the Niger-Delta and with Diezani on the reign's - the east should have a much more significant proportion. Names like elumelu, offor, oliseh , ojei, Joseph ikechukwu, arthur eze, uzoigwe, anyaoku,Ezenna, Ndi Onyiuke and others litter the list of oil bloc owners in this country. NgeneUkwenu: Thank you my sister! Some people are too naive to think by impeaching some governors or PDP wining some Nothern /Western States automatically means Jonathan wining the electorates in those states. When it comes governorship stable, the average Northerner is indifferent, cos they assume all the candidates are their brothers, so qualms! However when it comes to the main One which is the Presidency, they the Northerners are resolute and agreement that it their turn. It does not matter the party the candidate is from. (PDP or APC).If ur really a girl all I can say is sexybrains |

berem: if anyone is going to get a ministerial post from Anambra state,Peter Obi is the only favoured candidate I see due to his closeness to Jonathan. Osita does not come any close. But personally, for political reasons,I think Kwara will get the slot.Peter Obi is not on that list, neither is Anambra. Jonathan has no reason to give peter Obi or Anambra anything. pDP owns Anambra. apga is a department in the pDP headquarters . It should be easy to garner the support of the east with or without Obi but Kwara as you said would be make a better ally. But who, would it go to. Who is still powerful and influential in Kwara state and had a strong family name, not just some man with money - but inherited clout. |

OrlandoOwoh: Just this week robbers entered the government house of Anambra State at night unnoticed because of power outage which was made worse because of the inability to fuel the power generating sets by the government. What do you expect when the governor stupidly carried 30 men along on a trip to the states. Did I hear somebody say, gay sex orgy. It's the only thing I can think of. Not one babe.... |
relchange: ok make i compare amExcellent , with this we have irrefutable evidence that this thread was started by easterners to be-little Bayelsa, misguide readers into believing that Ijaws, of which the president (whom the easterners 'claim' they support solidly) is one and the Niger-delta as a whole, is inhabited by nincompoops. .. |
customized07: lol, coming from a conehead, you people lick northern ass directly.Ur mistaken were not fighting to remain in the north or become a governor, chairman or senator in the west. These regions are strongly affiliated with the northern politicians (the real McCoy when it comes to politics). And as long as the east desire more than just commercial freedom - they gotta lick the norths ar.se indirectly and continue to remain ruled indirectly. Just like peter obi kissing Jonathan's ar.se who still takes orders and directives from ibb, Gowon, shonekan, obj . The only things he does with the east is and will forever remain commercial activities. Look closely no easterner is in a position of true power . Only that fat man, who sleeps his way through meetings and never knows what's happening. Okonjo had to travel to Chibok to save whatever remains of her smelly international reputation , the Emir of Kano tore to shreds. And you come here comparing state cut off marks with people whom have less infrastructure and amenities nor access to roads or health to the east . Why not compare the a state in the east to the west. |
ibo folks are really low lifes. ![]() I guess this is the reason you will continue to lick the norths ass indirectly. You know what I mean .... ![]() |
Gracyel: Really?. .And why haven't we heard any story about it yet unlike what we hear of the same topic by northerners. My dear, if you don't know something or aren't sure, its better to keep your mouth shut instead of disgracing yourself. Are you stable ? ![]() |
delishpot: Sir, I understand your point and I duly accept all you said. If you noticed I stand against forcing a child or any one at that to get married to soneone they clearly dont want. Now, you may show me Miss A and say do you like her, I would like if you marry her and if she says to me, sir, I really dont want to marry you, I should be wise enough to drop her not insist that she be my bride. Yes I am not saying she should love me at first but she should like me and see the possibility of loving me in furure. But if I am shown Miss B and she doesnt mind having me as her Mr right and I also like her then by all means its ok. As long as she isnt forced to marry me nor I forced to marry her. Its different if both parties are willing to enter the union. And each one should have the support of family and society to guide them in the right path. I am not against poligamy as long as all parties involved are for it.Good points, points noted ! Understand my argument does not support early marriages or forced marriages but an attempt to enlighten others that early marriage is Legal (may not be popular, but is LEGAL and ACCEPTABLE) in both religions (Christianity and Islam). I also pointed out that - we have not heard Wasila's side of the story , how come she killed 4 individuals and Why. Did plan to eliminate 1, the others collateral damage ? By the way, if its in your culture for family to take your late dads property after his demise and an uncle take your mom or if she refuses to marry again out of grief they push her out. If people come to fight for her right will you say haba no my fellow nigerians its our culture and that is how women have been treated and we have been living like that since.I have little to say about this but i do know such incidents still occur in the eastern part of Nigeria and nothing is been done about it. (another case of unpopular but legal and acceptable) though i have not studied such cases or met anyone who has experienced such. |
delishpot: Clap for yourself. Are both men the same? Did she tell you she wouldnt have acted the same if she was put in the same situation? Do you know if she was married to a younger man? Do you know if she liked the man she married? Do you know if he was kind to her? Do you know if she had family support? Do you know the gatemans daughter? Clap for ya self, many men were enslaved in those days, and many became old, does thar mean we should blame 100% the ones that fought for their freedom? Do we say hell no, many men like you were slaves and most of them are old and mature now in slavery, so why the hell did you kill your master?.if a man comes to say sir, I will work for you, I will be your slave or soldier or nanny,ir househelp its his own will, his own desire to be told what you want him to do and he knows he has a choice to leave when ge is fed up. but when you capture a man against his will, no mater how kind you are to him, he will find a way to set himself free cos he has no desire to be controlled. In the catholic church (the oldest christian faction) , from the code of canon law - boys can get married at 16 and girls 14. So Islam is not the only religion or religious faction where early marriage is Legal , it may not be popular but it is Legal all the same. See http://www.vatican.va/archive/ENG1104/_P3Y.HTM In Islam, a woman can demand for a divorce and such a request will be granted if she can prove her allegations. see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Divorce_in_Islam The question, one need to ask or may i say the answer the community needs to seek is how this girl hatched such a plan. To kill four individuals, two of whom are younger than she is. She could have used a knife to stab her husband during intimacy but she chose to poison 4 people at a blow. Did she accept ? Did she poison, them ? If she denies this, there should be further investigation but if she accepted - finito. But, we still have not heard Wasila's side of the story. Such an act, is not just a result of hatred or a strong feeling of injustice but an act of evil - you cannot compare being married of as a child bride to committing multiple pre-meditated homicide's. Note, that this is culture and acceptable , it is also legal ; you may try to argue that early marriage is in-humane and only muslims practise this. You will be very wrong if you choose to argue so, as there are many christian factions who encourage and support early marriage, polygamy as well. Nigeria is a diverse country, and we need to learn to tolerate one another's culture and traditions not call them barbaric or foolish. If you are really concerned with such issue's and have a sincere desire to correct or ameliorate the situation, you must start by studying it in-depth and not draw out conclusions from mere hearsay and emotional deductions. |

cbrass: If we look at it this way, nairaland can't even be blame for the attack but their host, once you hack the host what else remains.Nairaland does not have a host. It sit's on a dedicated server, for the statement nairaland is protected by cloudflare everybody and their grandmother knows cloudflare is used by hackers, pirates, terrorist's and their like to hide their true identity. I really doubt nairaland got hit by a ddos , the server crashed and suen and co - where not making daily or hourly backups hence the loss of data. You only loose data when your server crashes and you have no backups, ddos do not cause data loss servers, they only swallow the available bandwith on the servers link or IP. A simple solution is to move to a better data center with 100gbps ddos protection - that should keep em crooks scratching their heads. Another solution to ddos, it to block all originating countries but that would also chew alot of system resources - which take us back to the upstream protection from the data center and not the server. To the question about ddos protection (if you own a server) - their very little you can do, if the attacker can eat your entire bandwith but if it's minor attack. You can protect your server with mod_evasive, fail2ban, CSF or much dedicated and less crowded cdn providers such as incapsula - whom made an excellent presentation on TTFB (time to first byte) and search engine rankings - another area cloudflare fails. Other CDN include - amazon , cdn77 just to name a few. Dump cloudflare if you use it. Nairaland.com IP: 173.208.175.234 Provider: WholeSale Internet ![]() |
