CrimeFather Gouged Letter W Into Son’s Scalp by LoverBwoy(op): 11:09pm On Mar 22, 2007
Crown Court heard how Osita Onwugbufor, aged 47, gouged a letter W into his eight-year-old son Mezie's scalp.
Onwugbufor beat the Down syndrome boy over the head with a belt and also beat one of his other sons.
Onwugbufor, of Church Manorway, Abbey Wood, was given a four-year jail sentence by Judge Hubert Dunn last Friday.

He had been found guilty of child neglect and two charges of common assault.
There is some suggestion the carving was done as part of a witchcraft ritual.

The judge told him: "Your son was a seriously disadvantaged child who was subjected to quite appalling treatment.
"In my judgment, the cruelty in this case was of a most serious nature."

Nigerian-born Onwugbufor had custody of his three sons, then aged eight, 10 and 11, but their divorced mother, Sade Gbadamosi, saw them regularly.

On June 19, 2004, when their mother arrived to collect her sons for the day, Onwugbufor refused to let them go.
A row began and both parents called the police.
When they arrived, an officer spoke to 10-year-old Ebele, who revealed his father had punched him and beat him with a stick the week before because he was late home from football.

The boy said the beating had broken the stick and left him with a bleeding mouth.
Police immediately arrested Onwugbufor, took the boys into protective custody and handed them to their mother for safekeeping.

Later the same day, she took her sons to the barber to have their hair trimmed.
As Mezie was having his hair cut, the barber found the injury to his scalp.
Onwugbufor, who was on police bail, subsequently tried to snatch the boys from their schools one afternoon but was stopped by police.
On evidence from Ebele, Onwugbufor was also charged with beating his Down syndrome child.

He consistently denied gouging the letter W into Mezie's head.
When he was sentenced last week, he again protested his innocence and claimed all three boys were in "fine health" when their mother collected them on June 19.

TravelRe: Most Africans Think Nigerians Are Arrogant by LoverBwoy(m): 5:47pm On Mar 22, 2007
adconline:
It depends on what you meant by arrogance. One thing is very certain of average Nigerian. I will not let use boss me around. I had a Kenyan friend who always called Nigerians arrogant , until I told him that their EX President- Arap Moi could not rule Nigeria past 8 years. I told him they were weak and afraid to confront him and he ruled them for 20 some years. Look at what is happening in Zimbabwe; nobody is ready to challenge Mugabe’s authority. Nigerians will never let you boss them. We will always be the first to speak out. This could be construed as arrogance.
erm IBB wasnt kicked out by the people, Abacha would probably still be there or passed on the touch to another dictator if not for death, more unfair elections to come. . .

Make una no mind them, them dey jealous us.
yea, thats the typical response

BusinessRe: Ethics In Capitalism by LoverBwoy(m): 1:08am On Mar 22, 2007
Seun:
No, I don't see the conflict. Ethics is a personal thing. What is ethical to me may not be ethical to you. Capitalism in a mostly free market system allows you to practice your own ethics and allows me to practice my own ethics.
This statement somehow doesn't sound right, afterall countries have different business law to limit what your ethics are
you just don't do thing "you" think is right/wrong- the societal interests are also taken into account

Seeing the way you have riped the discussion line by line and taken everyone opinion at face values, theres no room for understanding in here!
PhonesRe: Investment in telecoms sector hits $8b by LoverBwoy(m): 12:18am On Mar 22, 2007
Call me naive, but I don't think S.Africa would welcome such investments by Nigerian companies
Nigerian companies are not strong enough(or their managers are not smart enough) to buy out companies in other parts of the world! they need govt help wink

remember Nigeria is open for business its a good thing (except for defence)

I hv been vindicated by this development that this S/Africans will stop at nothin to kill and scuttle our dreams to be as great
oh pls, most nigerian companies cant operate without govt help-most of them are owned by officials anyways that why they never venture beyond nigeria!

BusinessRe: Obj Comissions Power Plant: Improved Electricity Supply? by LoverBwoy(m): 10:32pm On Mar 18, 2007
Considering some people are being paid N10,000 a month in Nigeria, I think that price is a bit high
some people are getting paid millions/month of course but on the whole Nigerians are paying through their noses on most things

@watchung
I don't think anyone is against privatisation but the infrastructures to be privatised should at least be there first.
British Rail was the sole failure out of hundreds of privatised British enterprises;British Steel,British Telecom,British Airways,British Gas,British Aerospace.e.t.c.
All these were initially owned/controlled by the govt and were in good working conditions before they were eventually privatised.
PoliticsRe: Sultan Of Sokoto: Inec Not Serious! by LoverBwoy(m): 9:00pm On Mar 18, 2007
The Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Mohammad Sa'ad Abubakar III, yesterday described the Independent National Electoral Comm-ission (INEC) as unserious and ill-prepared for the April 2007 general elections.
The Sultan added that it was wrong for INEC to carry on as if all was okay with the preparations for the polls when there are widespread discontentment by Nigerians over sundry issues pertaining to the April elections.
Addressing Northern traditional rulers at the Arewa House Kaduna at a summit incidentally organised by INEC for royal fathers from the region "On the 2007 Election and Role of Traditional Rulers," the Sultan, also warned the commission to abide by all court rulings regarding the April elections to avoid confusion, noting that the commission must not allow itself to be used as a launch-pad for any forms of violence.
I'm still wondering what the problem is?

INEC is really not prepared lets be honest, there are still cases in court, they only just managed to rush the voters i.d, they have not issued permanant voters I.D

And he advised them "to abide by all court rulings regarding the election. . . . ."
