basdow101: Hi Loverencha,

how u doin? please can i get some information from you, can u tell me how you went through the Authentication process at the ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Legalization process at the Embassy. Did u submit all your documentation for Legalization before you got your admission letter or after u got your admission letter? How did you go about the Travel Insurance and accomodation requirement?

Thanks.
I'm good... All you need to know about legalization is on this thread. Follow the thread. I also wrote a lot on the thread:

www.nairaland.com/566958/authenticity-documents-ministry-foreign-affairs

As for insurance, you need to make that at an insurance company in Europe and for accommodation, I will be living with a relative in Europe, so I submitted to the embassy the documents of my relative's house in Europe.

Hi, Sorry need some information from you, How did you go through the Legalization process at the Austrian Embassy. did u have to do the legalization before you got your admission letter or after you got your admission letter?

Thanks.
The school I will be attending in Austria did not need legalization of my documents before issuing admission letter. But most of the schools in Austria demand for legalization of your documents before issuing admission letters, especially the german speaking schools in Austria. You can check your school in Austria to find out exactly what they want. But in the end, all students who want to study in Austria must legalize their documents because the Austrian embassy will only accept legalized documents for visa/residence permit applications. No exceptions.

Please, does anyone know how long it takes the Austrian ministry in Austria to finish processing applications for residence permit? The Austrian embassy already sent my application for residence permit to the Austrian ministry in Austria and I have not heard from them, this is one month now... Please, who knows how long this takes for residence permit application? This Austrian application stuff is soooo long and complicated, from foreign affairs, to ministry of education to legalization to lawyer to verification..(I've done them all) I don tire... I think I am beginning to grow white hair(lol) and I hope I don't get hypertension or high blood pressure!! haha.. I hope my efforts have not been in vein ohh!! Because I already did all the embassy asked for.. But why is it taking so long time to get answer from the Austrian ministry if my residence permit has been granted or not. Anybody with useful information should please contribute. Thanks in advance

Kind regards

Please can you do me a favour by sending step to step of how you submitted your application the austria school to the legalization of document at abuja and other details to me on kindly assists, while I wish you luck in your expected result/news
@tolyem, thank you for good wishes..

I made application to a private school in Austria. The language of instruction in the private school is English Language. The school did not need legalization of my school documents to grant me admission but of course, Austrian embassy asked for this according to Austrian Law

I made application for admission by sending scanned documents (school results/documents, cv, motivation letter e.t.c.) by e-mail to the private school in Austria. Then the school made a phone interview with me after reviewing my documents and gave me admission letter. They sent this original admission letter to my home address here in Nigeria. Then, I took this admission letter to the Austrian embassy at Maitama in Abuja with all other of my documents.

I applied for a Student residence permit and not a Student visa, because for Austria, when u want to study for more than 6months u av to apply 4 a residence permit and not visa.

The first step to take is to get an admission letter from a school in Austria

Next...

You prepare your documents

School documents, including Waec result, transcripts, birth certificate, police character certificate (to be gotten at Alagbon), photocopy of data page of international passport, passport size photograph, certificate of state of origin, affidavit of bachelor hood/spinster hood, attestation of birth, sworn declaration of age, filled application forms (student residence permit application form about 9pages, to be filled in German language, filled Questionnaire form, about 10pages: to be filled in English)-you get these two forms on the website of Austrian embassy or by email when u write d embassy, financial documents, bank statement and document stating where you will reside in Austria.

You will also legalize your documents at the Ministry of foreign affairs in Abuja before you can submit them to the embassy because Austrian embassy will never accept documents that are not first legalized at Ministry of foreign affairs, Abuja.

Then you get 120,000naira ready

You book an appointment by phone with the Austrian embassy, they will give u an appointment date in a month's time when u should come in person to the Austrian Embassy in Abuja to submit your documents and they will collect the 120,000naira from you, this is lawyer's fee and u get a receipt at the counter during your interview.

After the day of your first appointment, you will go back home to await phone call from a lawyer from Austrian embassy. The lawyer will come to your house to make interview with you and your mother or father. The lawyer will ask you questions about your documents, school documents, when u finished school and all that... Then he will ask also your parent; (these answers you give lawyer have to rhyme because he will write them down on a notebook which is his report) Then you have to sign, the lawyer will compare your signature with the signature on the documents you submitted to Austrian embassy at the time of your first application, also your parent will sign. The lawyer will even go as far as asking you to show him your neighbours house so that he can ask them questions about you. Then after this, the lawyer will go to all your schools and confirm all the school documents you submitted to the embassy, the lawyer will take photocopies of all these documents and show to the people in charge of your results in your school, he will only ask them if your school documents/results are genuine or fake and if you really attended/graduated from that school. Your school councelor or principal have to prove to the lawyer that your school documents are genuine and he/she has to sign to approve your school documents which the lawyer will take along with him to submit to Austrian embassy. If you attended 2 or 3 secondary schools, the lawyer will go to ALL these schools to confirm your result also if you attended a university here in Nigeria, the lawyer will go to the Faculty/department to confirm your school documents and if the lawyer sees any fake document, that is the END of your application, the embassy will CANCEL your application and all your efforts and money will b WASTED! So, do NOT submit Fake documents. The Lawyer will write a report about you and go to embassy to submit this report. The lawyer will also go to the courts and notary offices where you got your other documents to confirm its authenticity and also the lawyer will go to Alagbon to confirm your police character certificate, even to the office where your birth certificate was issued, He WILL CONFIRM ALL, nothing will be left out. When the lawyer finishes with these investigations, he will go back to the Austrian embassy in Abuja to submit his report about you and your documents.. Aha, the lawyer will also collect about 2 or 3 of your pictures and your siblings pics and parents pics, he will submit these to embassy but this will be given back to you later.

Then, after lawyer submits his report about you, the Austrian embassy will review all and then make a decision, if d report from lawyer is good, you will receive a phone call from the Austrian embassy to continue your application to the next step which will be to go again to Abuja to pay your verification fee and application fee, this should be between 40,000naira and 60,000naira, depending on how many documents you submitted.

When you pay this, embassy will then legalize your documents and send to Austrian ministry in Austria. It is the Austrian ministry that will grant the residence permit. It takes some months for them to make a decision whether to grant u d residence permit or not, they will write u and let you know of their decision, if granted, you will receive a phone call from Austrian embassy to come to Abuja for 3rd time but this time, with your international passport, so that they will give you a visa so you can travel to Austria, immediately you get to Austria, you don't waste time, you go to the Austrian ministry to collect your residence permit card - (Austrian residence permit card looks like a credit card/Atm card)

I think this residence permit card is starting from 1year, then before it expires, about 3months before it expires, you apply for an extension of the residence permit when you are there in Austria

And... That's it...

N/B : It takes about 4-6months for processing your application for Austrian residence permit.

Good luck in advance to all those who are processing Visa/residence permit to Austria.

If your stay in Austria is more than 6months, (your master's program, if it is more than 6months) you need to apply for Student residence permit. But if it is not up to 6months, you need to apply for a visa, there are different types of visa, to be sure of the type of visa you need to apply for, contact the Austrian embassy, Abuja:

joie12: Hello guys, am kinda getting fustrated here, am in France and i needed to get some documents legalised in Nigeria, my documents were sent to the Ministry Of Foreign Affairs in Abuja and it was legalised, well so they said. And the legalisation was done or showed A LIGHT WHITE STAMP writing '' MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS LEGAL DIVISION SERVICE; It was written round the Nigeria flag logo and a blue pen SIGNATURE at the back of each documents. Now here in France i was told that wasn't enough that, It wasn't written '' LEGALISED'' on the documents and there should be a STAMP, showing '' LEGALISED on each documents with a signature of whoever that legalised the documents. IS THAT TRUE?

I WISH I COULD SEE A SAMPLE OF HOW A DOCUMENTS IS GENUINELY LEGALISED IN NIGERIA. Thank you.
@joie 12

Awww, sorry about the challenges you are facing...

With d explanation u gave here, I can say that I think your documents were legalized genuinely. I av done this before and yes, the legalized documents have the light white stamp, in a circular form, with the Nigerian coat of arms inside (at the middle of the stamp) just as you described yours and also there is a signature on top of the stamp and a "DATE".

There isn't any other stamp on the document stating "Legalized" on the document; it isn't done this way here, the French people over there, maybe that is how they do theirs in their country when legalizing documents but here in Nigeria we also have our method of doing things, they should consider that. (And not thinking they know too much and suspecting every document as fake coming from Nigeria, sorry to add this but this is what most of these foreign people think and it makes me sick, Urghhh) We can't have the same method of doing things.. They shouldn't stress you, they should do their jobs to find out if it is original or not, they can go through that stress to confirm that themselves..

I don't av any other thing to say, all I think is that your document was genuinely legalized... That's it! You just have to find a way to convince them and tell them this is how it is done here or maybe find a way to get an official letter from Ministry of foreign affairs stating that your document is genuinely legalized, with signature of who did this legalization at MFA but this wouldn't be easy.. (I think, but you can try) This is the only solution I can think of...

Paywole: pls how much does it cost to authenticate waec and birth certificate
WAEC certificates cost 3,000naira each for authentication at the Ministry of Education, go with ur WAEC scratch card

Birth Certificates are not authenticated by Ministry of Education cos it isn't a school result.. You only need to legalize ur birth certificate at Ministry of Foreign affairs, which goes for about 500naira per page(u get within one week), but if u r getting it done that same day for collection(express), it is 1,100naira per page

bunmi284: have diplomma statement of result with me and i want the ministry of foreign affairs to authenticate and legalise it in abuja..Will the ministry of foreign affairs legalise my result if it's being notarise by NOTARY PUBLIC SOLICITOR?or Is it compulsory to authenticate it at the ministry of education before going to ministry of foreign affairs?
@bunmi284

Yes, the ministry of foreign affairs will legalize your statement of result even if it is being Notarized by a Notary Public... Also Affidavits that are notarized by notary publics, the ministry of foreign affairs legalizes such documents.

As for d authentication of your statement of result @ ministry of education before taking it to d ministry of foreign affairs, it all depends on the kind of statement of result u want to legalize, if it is just a high school statement of result, you do not need to take it first to ministry of education for authentication, you just need to go ahead with the legalization @ foreign affairs. Also, I think I had a similar situation as yours, I also have a diploma statement of result from unilag, and a diploma certificate; when I got there @ Abuja, I was told to authenticate the diploma certificate at Ministry of education, but for the diploma statement, It was just legalized only at ministry of foreign affairs..(So, u should know what to do) smiley

I am aware that certificates are to be authenticated at the ministry of education before taking them to the Ministry of foreign affairs for legalization, e.g: WAEC certificates, GCE certificates, Diploma certificates, or any university certificates and so on.......

Information concerning the legalization of documents at the Ministry of Foreign affairs.

Some weeks ago, I legalized my documents at the Ministry of Foreign affairs.

I got to the foreign ministry as early as 8:00am and I was told there that the normal process of legalizing documents at the foreign ministry is 300Naira per page. Even if you have 100pages to legalize, you have to pay 300naira per page and you have to submit originals and photocopies of your documents because they have to check if it is original before they can legalize it. AND I was told that it takes 5days - 1week to process it, so one is to come back for the documents after5days to 1week.

But if u want your documents legalized urgently and you want to get them that same day, u have to pay 1,100naira per page for the urgent legalization.

This information is very recent, so anyone who intends legalizing his or her documents in future @ the Ministry of foreign affairs should be there as early as possible in the morning. There isn't a problem or big deal getting your documents legalized.. Best regards.

OMG! @Love angel, this means u need to be in Austria 4 ur exam in April? The first step u need to take is book an appointment at the Austrian embassy on their phone number +234-(0)8034338778 btw 9am and 10am. I think Mondays-Thursdays, then u av to wait for ur appointment day, they might give u an appointment date in March if u call this month, so u don't av enough time. Well, u can try to plead for an earlier appointment date maybe u cud be lucky because ur exam date is so near, so as to give enough time for the embassy to process ur application...

You also have to write an email to d Austrian embassy: (abuja-ob@bmeia.gv.at) and ask them what are the required documents u need to submit for ur application, they will tell you what documents u need to submit. Also tell them about ur Masters exam and the date u will be taking d exam in Austria

So, start moving cos applications at Austrian embassy take so much time for processing.... Best of luck..
