Music/RadioNew Music: Modenine – I’m Back by LTVersati(op): 7:38am On Jun 01, 2011
http://korrectnation.com/?p=9195

Modenine is without a doubt the most respected hip-hop act in Nigeria. With about seven mixtapes and four albums, who can stand toe-to-toe with the punchline king? Your guess is as good as mine – Nobody.

Modenine who recently returned to the country in anticipation of the release of his fifth studio Lp ‘Commercial Break‘ has dropped the official single coincidentally titled ‘I’m Back‘. Fans and followers of the hip-hop icon will pleased to know that their ‘King’ has returned.

‘I’m back’ surprisingly is an up-beat tune but Modey holds the track by the neck as he rides along the beat comfortably. He rhymes about his return and what he intends to accomplish. With lines like ‘The mice all play when the cat is out/I own this building, back out!, you know Nigel Benn is not joking.

Listen up and enjoy

Culture15-year-old Nigerian Girl Gets Accepted Into Harvard University [video] by LTVersati(op): 9:21pm On May 07, 2011
http://korrectnation.com/?p=7838

Saheela Ibraheem, of Edison, N.J., is every college’s dream. She plays soccer, softball, the trombone. She scored an almost perfect SAT. And she’s a nice, humble, normal girl.

“I want to study neuroscience, neurobiology,” Saheela said. “It comes down to the support I’ve had at home, from my parents and brother, every step of the way.

Saheela applied to 14 colleges. She got into Harvard, M.I.T., Princeton, Columbia, Penn, Stanford, Williams, Washington University, Brown, Cornell, University of Chicago, University of North Carolina, and Cal Tech. The only rejection was from Yale. No one is quite sure why.

“I don’t know!” she said.

But what might be most amazing about Saheela — she is 15.

“Most of the time, they say I’m mature for my age,” Saheela said. “I guess that Age isn’t everything.”

Her mom knew Saheela was something special at an early age.

“When you teach her 1, 2, 3 but she want more,” said Shakirat Ibraheem, the proud mother. “When you teach her 1 through 5, she’d say how about this.”

Saheela skipped the sixth and ninth grades. By high school, she’d switched from public to private. Her Edison school feels lucky to have her.

“She has it all. She’s the whole package,” said Susan Swenson of the Wardlaw-Hartridge School. “She really is.”

CultureElephants Tusks Coming To Lagos Intercepted In Kenya by LTVersati(op): 9:17pm On May 07, 2011
http://korrectnation.com/?p=7832

Kenyan police on Thursday seized ivory weighing up to 1.4 tons at Nairobi’s Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.

Speaking to the media, Eunice Kihiko, the deputy commander of the airport, said Friday they discovered the elephant tusks after sniffer dogs were used in a deserted metal container that had no customs documents. Inside the container were 115 tusks, which were valued at US$1.3 million.

“We highly suspect this is a major syndicate and collusion between clearing agents here at the airport. The fact that this cargo was found at the import section and not export section is enough to show that something unusual was being done here,” she said.

She reported no arrests were made, but said the smugglers killed many elephants. The shipment was enroute to Lagos, Nigeria.

Christianity EtcMembers Leave Latter Rain Church Over Pastor Bakare’s Failed Political Ambition by LTVersati(op): 7:46pm On May 06, 2011
According to City People Magazine, there is a great unrest in pastor Tunde Bakare’s Latter Rain Church as many members have deserted the church saying they can no longer follow the doctrine of a man who joined forces with a man (General Buhari) perceived by many, even Northerners, as an Islamic fundamentalist, who told his northern follows never to vote for anyone who was not a Muslim.

Pastor Bakare in the perspective of some of his congregation may have flouted the biblical injunction which says ‘Do not be unequally yoked to an unbeliever’.

Also according to one member of his church, he clearly went against a declaration he made in 2006 in a popular Nigerian Daily where he declared this “Let me tell you the truth by the spirit of God, neither Obasanjo, Atiku, IBB, Buhari, are part of the new. They are part of the old that is decaying. That old is passing away. The new is emerging and these ones are not part of the new.”

So it irked some of his members that he could eat his words and join forces with the ‘old’. They say despite his ability to hear God’s voice, he still took the plunge and latched unto a man that had been divinely rejected by God, making it daunting that the pastor got a revelation from God and then blatantly acted against it
