Romance / Funny Ways Lovers Communicated In Relationships Before The Advent Of GSM by lukaino(m): 8:33am On May 12, 2015
Before GSM came to Nigeria, we had a life. We had our ways of sending and receiving messages which made communication possible.
Some of them are listed below: You can add yours.

1. Love letters- we wrote special letters for toasting- I remember the first love letter i sent to a girl in my class, she invited all her friends to go read it together & that brought me so much guilt and shame.(her friends told her to say NO), 'missing you' letters to a lover through post office( remember NIPOST?) grin

2. Sending emissaries-(Messenger of Love)- for those of us who lived/Schooled in the northern parts of Nigeria, you know that Guys are not allowed into female hostels so, the only way to call your girl is to stand by the hostel entrance and send any girl going inside the hostel to help you. There are no guarantees with this method as you may never get a feedback.

3. Using Coded Signs-Dating a girl whose father is a no nonsense disciplinarian or a Military man who does not welcome boys to their home, we come around to such homes and alert the girl to come out by whistling or throwing a stone on their roof or by sending a child to go call her. that way, we get to see her(you see how difficult life was before GSM?)
4. We Fix date for our next date on our last date- This way you may not talk to her until you see her on the agreed date.

The lack of GSM brought about a lot of clashes. E.g, another girl can just show up unannounced during your date leading to serious GBEGEH! grin
we took care of such issues by ensuring that your guy(s) outside to divert such intruding characters.

Car Talk / Re: Do You Remember This Car? by lukaino(m): 3:59pm On May 05, 2015
I saw this car at ikoyi, three weeks ago. it was immaculate white in colour and was driven by a prosperously looking neat man(probably in his forties). the car was very new and had this customized number plate(CJ).
i hailed him as we drove through the traffic through Osborne en route 3rd mainland bridge, he smiled when he saw that i was full of admiration for the car he he was driving. I was amazed by three things, one is beauty of the car, secondly, the car was mechanically sound and thirdly, the person driving it did not looking any inch a poor man.I couldn't match him for speed on the 3rd mainland bridge as i watched him zoom off, leaving me far behind.

I have a profound likeness/love for Lions because i was raised in a community where they are adored to date.(somewhere in Edo state)

Thank you very much for this enlightenment. i experienced overheating on my chevrolet Optra three months back. The solution which kazeem preferred was to connect the connection of the fans to run directly. i have been having series of issues which i now know results from that connection. I am going back to them to have that connection reversed back to factory setting. Ignorance is a very bad thing.

This is not unexpected in a democracy as we have seen instances where America's president Obama had such issues with Fox news and some other media house. Are they not our Democracy model?
Going forward, the media should endeavor to be balanced in their work rather than being clearly partisan and one-sided.

I personally think the failure to give such a highly populated area good attention in terms of provision of infrastructure and other dividends of democracy is a big political miscalculation on the part of the APC led state govt.
PDP, has been campaigning a great deal with this flop and it looks like the people might just be ready to try them out.

Governments must always try never to take the people for granted as this has a way of turning the people on a collision course with government.
I live in that area, so i can tell that the people were left largely on their own by government.

Politics / After Four Years, Lagos State Starts Palliative Work On Ayobo- Ipaja Road by lukaino(m): 12:49pm On Apr 09, 2015
Source: Vanguard

WITH less than one-week to the April 11 Governorship Election, the Lagos State Government, last weekend resumed palliative work on the seven-kilometre Ayobo-Ipaja road, in Alimosho Local Government Area of the state, which has been undergoing construction for over four years. The administration of Governor Babatunde Fashola, awarded the reconstruction of the dual-carriage road to an indigenous construction firm, Plycon Construction Company, in May 2011, and the project was initially billed to last for 18 months, thus to be completed in November 2012.

The only access road into Ayobo-Ipaja, which links 10 communities in the area, also links Ogun State, through the Idiroko out-skirt, as well as Cotonou, the largest city and economic centre of Benin Republic, through Aiyetoro Itele. This road is also the fastest link to Ikotun-Igando community, but owing to lack of motorable concrete bridge across the canal, residents make use of a wooden bridge made by them to have easy passage. While pedestrians are said to pay N30 to access this wooden bridge, motorists pay between N200 and N300.
Four years down the line, with this project yet to be completed, it has become a source of worry to motorists and other road users, as countless re-assurances by the state government that the project will be completed soonest has met brick-wall. When Vanguard visited the area, on Sunday, some workers were seen laying large stones and rubbles on the road, as a palliative measure .

Some of the residents who spoke to Vanguard, apparently described the state government's action as coming too late, adding that it is a fire-brigade approach made in order to capture the area's votes. At least two million residents, the highest number of electorate in the state use the road.

Failed promises: In what has been described as failed promises, sometime in June 2013, two years after the commencement of the project, residents of the community thought respite had come their way, when the current Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat, gave government's commitment to deliver the project in November 2013. According to Hamzat, the government was committed to delivering a standard road at the end of the day, saying "the situation has attracted the attention of Governor Babatunde Fashola who is interested in early completion of the project".
At that time, Fashola, paid an unscheduled inspection visit to the project site, giving an ultimatum to the contractor to deliver. This saw the contractor mobilised more personnel and equipment to the site in apparent response to the executive order even amid the rains.

On his part, the Project Manager, Mr. Leke Adeniji, who assured that the project would be completed by the new November 2013 deadline, said: "This month represents the 18 months of construction of the road project. We have completed 60 percent of the median, 90 percent of the drains and 65 percent of the walkways. From this section of the road, Ipaja Road, what we will be doing next is the paving work."
"Most incredibly is the amount of rainfall experienced yearly in the community. The rain posed a serious challenge for road construction.. From Baruwa to Megida Bus stop, we have completed 90 percent of the drains which represent the most challenging aspect of the project.
"What we are doing now is to raise the carriage way up to the required level before we commence the grading of the surface. We have been able to more or less complete that. And we have opened the section of the road, from Ayobo to Megida Bus stop. However, from this section of the road-Oluwaga, to Megida Bus stop, this is where we have a Herculean task. It required utmost concentration," he disclosed.

Blame-game: Apparently worried by the barrage of criticisms poured against the State government for failure to complete the project three years after, a lawmaker representing Alimosho 1 constituency at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Bisi Yusuf, in July 2014, accused the federal government for the delay in the completion of the project.
According to Yusuf, the construction of the road, has been stalled from the Abesan Gate point to the entrance into Gowon Estate allegedly because of a demand by the federal government that the contractor working on the road should pay the sum of N290 million to protect the pipeline in the area.
Yusuf said, "The situation on that road is really bad; some people might not know the politics that is involved. The federal government is using the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) to stall work on the road; they are saying that the contractor should pay N290 million for that very small portion of the road to protect the pipeline there and that is why today, only that portion of the road is left, while all other parts have been completed."

Lamenting the situation, a resident, Olujimi Ojo said: "The government has really tried and the road is improving but I don t know why it's taking so long to complete the road, especially the Abesan estate gate which is the major route for anybody going in and out of Ayobo- Ipaja. "The estate gate road has become so bad that vehicles going in and out of Ayobo to Iyana-Ipaja divert before getting to gate and either go through the estate or command road just to avoid it.
Motorists, not minding the stress, prefer to merry-go-round through Command axis and coming out at Abule Egba. The worst part is that there is always a chaotic traffic gridlock on this same road. You can be there for hours, because of potholes which motorists find difficult to manoeuvre.
This chaotic gridlock causes confusion along the road, so I am pleading on behalf of Ayobo residents that the state government should change our status and quickly complete this project." Meanwhile, efforts to get the Commissioner for Works and Infrastructure, Mr. Obafemi Hamzat to react to the issue proved futile, as several calls put across to his phone rang without him picking up

Politics / Must Nigerian Politicians Use Thugs? by lukaino(m): 2:44pm On Mar 25, 2015
Young people are recruited by politicians and their parties. These are usually hot blooded undergraduates who are mostly cultists. These guys are armed by politicians for the purpose attacking political opponents.

We have seen cases where people peceived as political rivals are killed, properties destroyed and they are used to snatch ballot boxes on election days for election manipulation amongst others.
The disturbing thing is that most (if not all) political parties in Nigeria have & use thugs.
Budgets are created for purpose of arming them.
If thuggery is an integral part of party structure in Nigeria, why do politicians always want to make us believe that they do not suppport violence or preach peace during politicking.

Are they trying to tell us that it is not possible to play clean, violence free politics in Nigeria?
Politics / Re: Oshiomhole Is Being Exposed Live On NTA! by lukaino(m): 6:35pm On Mar 24, 2015
The only Edo citizens who will take this cheap propaganda serious are the ones with very short memories who have forgotten what 8years of P DP rule meant for them.
I still remember vividly what those years were like and i dare say pdp and apc are world apart as far as quality governance and development is concerned.

Go to the people of Okpekpe and show them propaganda against a governor who constructed for them a road which was blacklisted by the pdp as impossible to construct.

Schools that used to look like poultry farms were upgraded to a point that many people(myself included) find it difficult to recognise the primary and secondary schools we attended in those days.
Its a pity that Edo pdp as shameless as they can be, still embark on these smear campaigns.

Never again, shall we be ruled by mediocres!
