Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says that the FA Cup semi-finals should not be played at Wembley. The winners of Sunday's tie at Anfield are guaranteed a trip to the famous stadium, which has hosted both semi-finals and the final since 2008. Rodgers said: "In many ways I wish semi- finals weren't at Wembley as I think it takes something away from it. Wembley should be just for the final." Liverpool have reached the semi-finals of the FA Cup on 23 occasions, most recently in 2012. Blackburn have reached 18 - most recently in 2007 - and manager Gary Bowyer believes his side have found a game plan to beat the Reds at Anfield. He said: "It's David versus Goliath. Nobody's giving us a chance outside of our dressing room. "I think they're the most impressive team in the Premier League at the moment and the football that they're playing is fantastic. Obviously full credit to the manager for the way he changed his formation. "We've studied the videos, we've come up with a game plan, and we've worked with the players on it. We'll go and take the challenge to Liverpool. "The mood's one of excitement and rightly so. The lads have earned the right to play at Anfield with the performances in the previous rounds." This is the 10th time these sides have been drawn together in the FA Cup, with Liverpool progressing five times and Blackburn four times previously. Blackburn won the last FA Cup meeting 1-0 at Anfield in the fourth round in 2000, with Nathan Blake scoring the only goal. Liverpool have won the FA Cup on seven occasions - most recently in 2006. This is only the second time that Liverpool have reached the sixth round since they won the trophy in 2006. They also reached this stage in 2012, when they beat Stoke 2-1 at Anfield before losing to Chelsea in the final. It is 131 years since Blackburn Rovers first won the FA Cup, in 1884. They have won the trophy on six occasions, but not since 1928. Blackburn have reached the sixth round for the second time in three seasons, also reaching this stage in 2013 when they lost to Millwall. http://m.bbc.com/sport/football/31680300 |
Those totals won't be added to this season, but second place is now certainly in the sights of both after losing just two league games between them since their December meeting in Manchester. United won that game 3-0, and it was the first of 24 successive matches in which Brendan Rodgers has selected the 3-4-2-1 formation that's been key in turning Liverpool's season around. Even in losing at Old Trafford, the Reds boss said that he'd seen enough "to show that we could get a result going forward". His instincts have been right to the tune of 13 results without a defeat in the Premier League since then, winning eight points more than Chelsea in the same period (although Chelsea have played one game fewer). It's also eight more than Manchester United have gathered, although the fact that Louis van Gaal's team has won as many points as the champions-elect in that time frame is telling. It's often said that winning games whilst not playing well is the sign of a good team, and United showed against Tottenham last weekend that they can be one, with their first win for a while that was more glorious than ground out. We've got two in-form teams and a match that could play a big part in one or the other missing out on a Champions League place next season. It's the game of the weekend. http://m.bbc.com/sport/football/31893202 |

Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard is back in training following a hamstring injury but is unlikely to be risked. Glen Johnson has overcome illness and Mamadou Sakho is nearing a return after a hip problem, but Jordon Ibe remains out with a knee injury. Burnley manager Sean Dyche has no new injury concerns and could once again name an unchanged starting line-up. Matthew Taylor is still out following Achilles surgery, while Dean Marney and Kevin Long are out for the season. Liverpool are the Premier League's only unbeaten side since the turn of the year and Saturday's excellent win over Manchester City served further notice of their intent as serious players in the race for Champions League football next season. This match will be a very different test for Brendan Rodgers' in-form team though. Whereas City came to play and take them on toe-to-toe, Burnley will look to deny time and space and, on their day, are more than capable of making life difficult for the top sides. They managed it only a couple of weeks ago with a 1-1 draw away to Chelsea and also took a point from the Etihad Stadium in a 2-2 draw with Manchester City just after Christmas. It's been quite some turnaround for Liverpool over the last two-and-a-half months or so and they go into the midweek fixtures just a couple of points behind fourth-placed Manchester United. The manager has found a tactical formula that works and Saturday's win was their sixth in the last seven league games. They are unbeaten in the last 11, a run stretching all the way back to the 3-0 defeat at Old Trafford in the middle of December. This game is the start of a really tough- looking run of fixtures for Burnley, who face teams from the top seven in each of their next five matches. The Clarets are only in the bottom three on goal difference at the moment, but will be anxious to still be in touch when they emerge from this sequence of games in the middle of next month. Their form somewhat mirrors their opponents, only in reverse. Sean Dyche's men have won just once in 11 league games dating back to mid-December, and the 2-1 victory at Stoke back in November remains their only success on the road all season. Head-to-head Liverpool have won all three Premier League meetings, scoring nine goals without reply. The Reds have won their last seven home meetings with Burnley in all competitions, keeping a clean sheet on each occasion. The Clarets' last league win over Liverpool was by 1-0 at Anfield in September 1974. Liverpool Liverpool are unbeaten in 11 league games, and have won six of their last seven. They are the Premier League's form team in 2015 with 20 points from eight matches (W6, D2). The Reds have drawn five of their home league games this season, more than any other side in the top half of the table. Brendan Rodgers' side have kept five clean sheets in their last seven Premier League games. Burnley Burnley have won just one of their last 11 league matches (D4, L6) and failed to keep a clean sheet in that period. The Clarets are winless in seven away matches. Their only away win this season was a 2-1 triumph at Stoke in November. They have conceded 45 league goals, the division's joint-worst tally with QPR. Sean Dyche's side have conceded 16 headed goals, the most in the Premier League this season. Reported Liverpool target Danny Ings has scored five goals in his last eight Premier League games. http://m.bbc.com/sport/football/31616985 |

http://www1.skysports.com/football/live/match/313650/preview Manchester City will look to close the gap on leaders Chelsea to two points when they travel to Liverpool on Super Sunday. With Jose Mourinho's side occupied with the Capital One Cup final, the champions can move to within touching distance of the Blues with victory at Anfield. City enter the game on the back of another disappointing performance in Europe, having lost 2-1 to Barcelona on Tuesday, and they will be looking for a positive response. Manuel Pellegrini's side almost saw their bid for a second title derailed on their last trip to Merseyside as Brendan Rodgers' side stormed to victory in April. Philippe Coutinho's second-half strike edged a pulsating encounter as the Reds moved within reach of a maiden Premier League crown. Ten months on and Liverpool find themselves ten points behind Sunday's opponents. Yet, while talk of the title may be misplaced, victory on Sunday would see the Reds strengthen their claim for a top-four finish. Similarly to City, Liverpool enter the tie on the back of European heartache having been dumped out of the Europa League at the hands of Besiktas. Team news Liverpool playmaker Coutinho will return to the side having been rested for their Europa League exit in Turkey. Midfielder Jordan Henderson was also left at home with an ankle problem and that will need to be assessed at the weekend. Defender Mamadou Sakho has resumed training this week after a hip injury while full- back Glen Johnson could be back after illness meant he missed the trip to Istanbul. Manchester City have a fully-fit squad for the trip to Anfield. Midfielder Yaya Toure is poised to return after missing Tuesday's Champions League loss to Barcelona through suspension. Striker Wilfried Bony, who has made two substitute appearances in the past week, could make his first start since his £25million move from Swansea. Opta facts Liverpool have won just two of the last 12 Premier League matches against Man City (W2 D6 L4). Manchester City have scored two or more goals in each of their last six Barclays Premier League games against Liverpool. Man City have won none of their last 11 Premier League trips to Anfield (W0 D4 L7). David Silva has scored nine Premier League goals in 2014-15; his best tally in a single Premier League season. Liverpool are unbeaten in their last 10 Premier League matches (W7 D3); the best record of any side over the last 10 games. Arsenal are the only team to prevent Manchester City from scoring in their last 23 Premier League matches. Merson's prediction I am just going for Liverpool here - they have really picked up of late, while Brendan Rodgers has rested a couple of players for the trip to Besiktas in Philippe Coutinho and Jordan Henderson, and for me this game on Sunday is bigger than the Besiktas match. Getting beaten by Barcelona on Tuesday will have really knocked the stuffing out of City. And I think that Liverpool are at home and are on a right roll at the moment, so I see them winning this game. PAUL PREDICTS: 2-1 |
This match is going to ve difficult for Chelsea |

Coutinho, Sakho, and Henderson to Miss Besiktas Match By Noel C @LFCOffside on Feb 25, 2015, 2:00p 45 Alex Livesey/Getty Images Adding to Liverpool’s existing injury woes comes news today that Jordan Henderson, Philippe Coutinho, and Mamadou Sakho have all been left off the traveling squad and will not face Besiktas. Besiktas may be busy hoping their two best players are fit to face Liverpool , but Liverpool are heading into the second leg of their Europa League round of 32 tie with a lengthy injury list of their own. Midfielders Lucas Leiva and Steven Gerrard will be missing of course, but with the pair having sat out the first leg due to their injuries and few expecting them to be ready for the second, that’s hardly news. What is is that Brendan Rodgers will be short two more midfielders on Thursday evening, as Jordan Henderson has been left off the traveling squad with an ankle injury and Philippe Coutinho , clearly suffering from fatigue in recent weeks, also left in Liverpool with an eye to an important league match against Manchester City on the weekend. Defender Mamadou Sakho will also miss the match on Thursday due to a hip injury, as will Glen Johnson through illness. The lengthy list of injured players meant a number of Academy youngsters had to be called up to train with the seniors before they left for Turkey, and it also means that Martin Skrtel will captain Liverpool when they head out onto the pitch at Ataturk Stadium. Around Skrtel, though, there seem to be nothing but question marks, and all of the injuries may mean Rodgers is be forced to move Emre Can into midfield alongside Joe Allen. More positively for Liverpool, Henderson and Coutinho are both expected to be fit to face City on Sunday, while Gerrard and Sakho are hopeful of at least being fit enough to make the bench for that match. http://liverpooloffside.sbnation.com/liverpool-fc-news-coverage/2015/2/25/8106835/liverpool-injury-crisis-besiktas-coutinho-jordan-henderson-mamadou-sakho |

Luis Suarez looks set to play his first match in England since leaving Liverpool to join Barcelona in the summer, in Tuesday's Champions League last-16 first leg at Manchester City. Barcelona boss Luis Enrique has an almost full squad to select from, with only defenders Douglas and Thomas Vermaelen missing. City striker Wilfried Bony could make his first start for the hosts. Yaya Toure is suspended but James Milner is fit after a knee injury. Barcelona are looking to reach an eighth- straight Champions League quarter-final as they bid for a repeat of last season's last-16 win over Manchester City. Manuel Pellegrini's men lost both legs at the same stage last time round to be defeated 4-1 on aggregate and are yet to progress to the last eight of the competition. "It is one of the games of the year, the most important until now," said Barcelona centre- back Gerard Pique. "They will try to attack us and that suits us. It has been proven over the past few months that we are better against teams that attack us because we can counter-attack." Before Saturday's 1-0 loss to Malaga, Barcelona had won 11 consecutive games in all competitions. The Spanish team eased into the knockout stage with a match to spare, while City squeezed through thanks to a late turnaround against Bayern Munich in their penultimate group game and then a 2-0 victory in a must- win match at Roma. The Premier League champions failed to advance from their Champions League groups in 2011-12 and 2012-13, but have progressed to this stage for two campaigns in a row. "This is a new game and we're not the same as we were last season and they aren't, either," Manchester City striker Sergio Aguero told the club website. "Both teams have had reinforcements that have improved the squad so we'll have to see what kind of game it is, but one thing I think I can say with confidence is that they are both going to be great games." http://m.bbc.com/sport/football/31590801 |

Philippe Coutinho scored a magnificent goal as Liverpool overcame Southampton 2-0 in a controversial game on Sunday to close to within two points of the Premier League's top four. Coutinho opened the scoring with a stunning 30-yard effort in the third minute and Raheem Sterling added a second goal towards the end, but it was the performance of referee Kevin Friend that was to prove the biggest talking point on a cold, squally evening at St Mary's. Sudoku Online www.sudoko-online.info The official turned down two strong penalty appeals from Southampton and was barracked by their supporters throughout, as Ronald Koeman's side went a third home game without finding the net. The result prevented Southampton from overtaking fourth-place Manchester United, who they trail by a point, and Liverpool are now just a point further back after extending their unbeaten run to 10 league games. Brendan Rodgers's in-form side are now within touching distance of the Champions League berths ahead of a pivotal week that sees them take a 1-0 lead to Besiktas in the Europa League before welcoming champions Manchester City to Anfield next weekend. Dejan Lovren, who replaced the injured Mamadou Sakho, and former Southampton captain Adam Lallana were both booed on their returns to St Mary's, but Coutinho sliced through the home fans' jeers with a sensational early goal. Collecting the ball 30 yards from goal, the Brazilian midfielder shifted it onto his right foot and let fly with a glorious, dipping shot towards the top-left corner that cannoned into the net via the crossbar. By then, Filip Djuricic, making his first Southampton start, had already had a penalty appeal turned down when he went down after getting goal-side of Emre Can, and he then saw an even stronger claim waved away. He was sent sprawling by a sliding challenge from Joe Allen, but Friend allowed play to continue and Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet had to block from Eljero Elia. - Sterling punishes Targett slip - The official further angered the home support when he failed to penalise Can for up-ending Nathaniel Clyne on the Southampton right, but he also allowed Jose Fonte to get away with a full-blooded sliding block on Sterling inside the hosts' area. There were also roars of disapproval when Mignolet raced from his box to repel an attempted lob from Elia, but replays showed the ball had struck the goalkeeper's chest and then ricocheted against his arm. Moments before half-time, amid pandaemonium in the Liverpool box, Mignolet parried from Djuricic. Both sides made changes at the break, Southampton sending on the fit-again Morgan Schneiderlin and Liverpool introducing Alberto Moreno for Lazar Markovic, while Sadio Mane entered the fray for the hosts shortly after. Graziano Pelle dragged wide and Martin Skrtel produced a good block to thwart Mane as Southampton pushed for an equaliser, but with 17 minutes to play, Liverpool's killer second arrived. Slipping on the greasy pitch, Matt Targett could only steer Moreno's left-wing cross as far as Sterling, who slammed home before celebrating jubilantly with the fans behind Fraser Forster's goal. It was Sterling's third goal in five games and validated Rodgers's decision to select the England forward instead of of Mario Balotelli, who remained on the bench. Thereafter, Mignolet saved a skidding free-kick from substitute Dusan Tadic and an overhead kick from Schneiderlin, but the game was already up. https://sg.sports.yahoo.com/news/football-coutinho-rocket-sinks-seething-southampton-181624053--sow.html |
