EVERTON VS. LEICESTER CITY: MARTINEZ LAUDS INSPIRATIONAL PREMIER LEAGUE LEADERS By Tom Webber Everton boss Roberto Martinez says Premier League leader Leicester City is "capable of achieving anything this season". Roberto Martinez considers Leicester City an inspiration as he prepares his Everton side for the visit of the Premier League leader on Saturday. Claudio Ranieri's team returned to the summit with an impressive 2-1 victory over defending champion Chelsea on Monday. Jamie Vardy took his Premier League tally this season to 15 with the opening goal, while Riyad Mahrez – who has been involved in 18 top-flight goals this season – also hit the back of the net as Leicester extended their unbeaten run to nine matches by winning what proved to be Jose Mourinho’s last game as Chelsea boss. Everton manager Martinez thinks seeing a team with a smaller budget exceed expectations on a consistent basis proves to others there is always a chance of pulling off a surprise. "Leicester deserve to be top of the league and are a team who have been really, really dynamic," said the Spaniard. "When you develop that momentum it can be very, very powerful. They are capable of achieving anything this season. "They are refreshing for modern football because we all know that finances dictate a lot and normally in any competition at the end of the season the expected sides more or less are always there. "When you see teams like Leicester and the nature of this year's competition, I think it's an inspiration and is something that you want every footballer to believe – that you can achieve something that you're probably not predicted to achieve." Ranieri is keen for his players to put Monday's win behind them and focus on overcoming Everton. "We understood to beat the champions was not easy. Now it's important the players clear their minds," he said. "When other teams play against us, maybe we think twice. For us, it's not important what they think, but how we play. "It is important to maintain this friendly group. In every match they help each other. I love it." Everton is unbeaten in eight matches in all competitions, but has only taken all three points in just two of its last six Premier League games. Historically, Leicester has struggled against Everton, winning just one of the previous 20 top-flight clashes. However, it is unbeaten in its last 11 Premier League away games, winning seven in the process. Jeffrey Schlupp (hamstring) is sidelined for up to six weeks while Danny Drinkwater will miss out after limping off against Chelsea. Martinez confirmed John Stones will be fit to feature despite going off against Norwich City through injury, while Romelu Lukaku will be looking to extend his run of scoring in each of the last six Premier League games. James McCarthy, Phil Jagielka and Steven Pienaar are all nearing comebacks, though only the former has a chance of featuring on Saturday. Key Opta stats: - Of all fixtures that have been played at least five times in the Premier League, Everton versus Leicester City has the highest percentage of draws (72%). - Steven Naismith has scored in both of his Premier League appearances against Leicester City. - If Leicester City win this match, they'll be top of the league on Christmas Day. Five of the last six teams to have been leading the league on December 25 have gone on to win the title, with the exception in this period being Liverpool in 2013-14. - Since Lukaku’s Premier League debut for Everton in September 2013, only Sergio Aguero (49) has more goals in the competition than the Belgian (37). - Only Borussia Dortmund’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (18) has netted more goals in Europe’s top five leagues this season than Jamie Vardy (15) coming into this weekend. Newcastle v Liverpool Sunday, 6th December 2015, 16:00pm GMT St. James’ Park Premier League Referee: Andre Marriner After reaching the League Cup semi-finals, Jurgen Klopp’s Reds turn their attention back to continuing their positive Premier League form against Steve McClaren’s Magpies. Liverpool have responded perfectly to the only defeat suffered under the German against Crystal Palace, winning all four games since including back-to-back league wins, totally transforming the season in the process. Maintaining the building momentum will be the aim of the afternoon in the north east for Klopp’s men, who look to close the gap on the top-four positions once more as they move themselves into the chase for a Champions League place. (Photo by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda) Liverpool face Newcastle for the 170th time on Sunday at St James’ Park. The Reds have a poor recent record on Tyneside, with one win, one draw, and three defeats to show from their previous five visits. But Liverpool have lost only one of their last six meetings with the Magpies, that coming last season with Brendan Rodgers‘ men slumping to a miserable 1-0 defeat. A poor showing for large parts of the contest was eventually punished by Ayoze Perez’s 73rd-minute strike, with the Spaniard smashing past Simon Mignolet from 12 yards after Alberto Moreno had failed to clear his lines in the box. NEWCASTLE-UPON-TYNE, ENGLAND - Saturday, November 1, 2014: Liverpool's goalkeeper Simon Mignolet and Alberto Moreno look dejected as Newcastle United score the first goal during the Premier League match at St. James' Park. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda) Liverpool’s last win at St James’ Park came back in 2012/13 season, when Rodgers’ men hammered the Geordies 6-0. Braces apiece that day from Daniel Sturridge and Jordan Henderson, and strikes from Daniel Agger and Fabio Borini, fired the Reds to their biggest Premier League away win for a decade. Though Klopp’s men will do well to hit six for a second successive match, three points and a similarly enjoyable afternoon will be the order of the day from the German. Form MANCHESTER, ENGLAND - Saturday, October 3, 2015: Newcastle United's head coach Steve McClaren on the pitch after the Premier League match against Manchester City at the City of Manchester Stadium. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda) Newcastle have endured a terrible season to date, sitting 19th in the Premier League table. McClaren’s men – who have scored just twice in their last five matches – will be looking to respond to successive defeats and last week’s humiliating 5-1 loss against Palace, meaning Klopp’s side will have to wary of a potential backlash. The Geordies have won only once at home this season though – a 6-2 success over Norwich – and have conceded the highest amount of goals in the league, along with Bournemouth, who Newcastle’s only other league win this season came against. In stark contrast, the Reds arrive full of confidence and in brilliant form having won seven of their last eight in all competitions and three of the last four in the league. The Reds are unbeaten away from home under Klopp – winning two of three tough league away trips – and arrive with increased belief that they can add to their strong form following their dismantling of Southampton on Wednesday. Form Guide (Last 10 league games) Newcastle: L-L-D-L-W-L-D-W-L-L Liverpool: L-D-W-D-D-D-W-L-W-W Odds A fifth win in a row for Klopp’s men on Tyneside is priced at 4/7, with a return to winning ways for the home side valued at 9/2 and a draw available at 10/3. Opposition LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Monday, April 13, 2015: Newcastle United's Gabriel Obertan is tackled by Alberto Moreno and Dejan Lovren during the Premier League match at Anfield. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda) At a time when he can ill afford one, McClaren finds himself with an injury crisis on his hands. The Magpies boss is without first-choice ‘keeper Tim Krul, as well as defenders Steven Taylor, Massadio Haidara and Jamal Lascelles. Midfield options Cheick Tiote, Rolando Aarons and Gabriel Obertan will also miss the Reds’ visit, as will striker Emmanuel Riviere, leaving McClaren with just 18 players available – including a couple of the club’s youngsters. That squad could be boosted to 19 with the potential return of centre-back Mike Williamson, who has been recalled from a loan spell at Wolves but is touch-and-go after picking up a hamstring problem. LIVERPOOL, ENGLAND - Monday, April 13, 2015: Newcastle United's Moussa Sissoko in action against Liverpool during the Premier League match at Anfield. (Pic by David Rawcliffe/Propaganda) Positively for McClaren, Moussa Sissoko, Georginio Wijnaldum, and Perez are all fit to feature – three men Klopp’s side must pay close attention to. Playing at a high tempo with fluid movement in the final third, attacking the suspect Geordies’ defence from the off, could be key on the day for Klopp’s side, who could also find scoring the first goal proves vital to enjoying a productive afternoon against McClaren’s fragile team. What the Managers say Before his first trip to St James’ Park as Reds boss, Klopp said: “People expect us to win this game – we expect to win it too. We always do, but that doesn’t mean we don’t have respect for the opponent. “I had seven years in Dortmund and seven years in Mainz – stability is very important. I know Steve McClaren and his quality and experience. “We can’t start like we did against Southampton. We need to be concentrated from the first seconds. We must be prepared.” The under-pressure Magpies manager said ahead of Liverpool’s visit: “The mood is focussed and determined, and we know that we can turn it around with one result because we have good players. “Jurgen Klopp is a quality coach who I know from Germany. I can see what [Borussia] Dortmund had in the Liverpool team. It’s coming.” http://www.thisisanfield.com/2015/12/reds-look-make-five-wins-row-newcastle-vs-liverpool-preview/ |

The Britannia stadium has always been a nightmare for city, hope they survive this. |
This is a mout watering match. Front page mod STOKE CITY VS. MANCHESTER CITY: WALTERS FIRED UP AHEAD OF LUNCHTIME CLASH By Sam Williams Stoke City hosts Manchester City on Saturday, with Jonathan Walters fired up for the visit of the Premier League leader. Jonathan Walters is relishing the opportunity for Stoke City to put a dent in Manchester City's Premier League title aspirations on Saturday. Manuel Pellegrini's side sits top of the table on goal difference ahead of its trip to Stoke, but the Britannia Stadium has not been a happy hunting ground for City since Stoke's promotion to the top flight in 2008. City has taken three points just once from its seven Premier League fixtures at the Britannia, and although that victory came in its most recent visit - a 4-1 win back in February - forward Walters is bullish about this weekend. "I think we always fancy our chances against anyone and we've proved over the years that there is no fear at the Britannia," the Republic of Ireland international told the Stoke Sentinel. "These kinds of games really get the stadium rocking, they generate a great atmosphere. It's one to look forward to." Despite issues for City at the back, Walters believes the overall talent of the squad will make it a difficult test for Stoke. "Some people might criticize their defence but they've got a great squad and their players are not at a team like Man City for no reason. They're top quality players, some of the best in the world," he said. "It will be a difficult game but on the back of the [League Cup] quarterfinal we're full of confidence and can't wait for the weekend." Saturday's meeting could prove to be a dress rehearsal for the League Cup final after both Stoke and City came through their midweek quarterfinals before being handed last-four ties with Liverpool and Everton respectively. Stoke's 2-0 victory over Sheffield Wednesday saw it bounce back impressively after last weekend's defeat at struggling Sunderland - just the club's second loss in its last nine Premier League outings. Only four points separate Mark Hughes' 12th- placed team from Liverpool in sixth, and Walters is determined to put their Stadium of Light disappointment behind them. "We were on a great run before the Sunderland away game when we didn't get the result we wanted," the 32-year-old told talkSPORT. "It's a very tight division this year. It's a strange old league. Hopefully we can go on a similar run now and get back up the league." Stoke's misery at Sunderland was compounded by the dismissal of captain Ryan Shawcross, although the center back is available this weekend after serving his suspension against Wednesday. Striker Peter Crouch limped off with a hamstring injury in midweek and is a doubt, but Mame Biram Diouf is set to return after missing the Wednesday game to attend the birth of his child. City, meanwhile, has responded in style to back-to-back defeats to Liverpool and Juventus by comfortably beating Southampton and Hull City. Pellegrini was boosted by the return of David Silva against Hull, but captain Vincent Kompany (calf) and Pablo Zabaleta (knee) are out of Saturday's game and it remains to be seen whether Sergio Aguero (heel) and Joe Hart (hamstring) are risked. Eliaquim Mangala is banned, with Fernando (knock) and Jesus Navas (ankle) doubtful. Key Opta stats: - Stoke has won just two of their 14 Premier League meetings with Manchester City (D5 L7), and just one of the last 12. - Sergio Aguero has bagged five goals in his five Premier League appearances against Stoke. - Stoke has netted just seven goals in their 14 Premier League games against Manchester City. - Manchester City has only managed two clean sheets in their last nine Premier League games after keeping six in a row directly before that. http://m.goal.com/s/en-us/match/stoke-city-vs-manchester-city/2043209/preview |

The positive impact of Jurgen Klopp's arrival on Merseyside shows little sign of abating, with Liverpool having beaten Manchester City, Bordeaux and Swansea City in consecutive matches. Those three victories – which followed a defeat to Crystal Palace that interrupted another three-match winning run – ensured a place in the Europa League knockout stage while moving Klopp's men sixth in the Premier League. The latter of those wins – a hard-fought 1-0 success against Swansea – saw the return of captain Jordan Henderson and striker Daniel Sturridge, who featured off the bench for the first time since Klopp's appointment in October. With confidence high at Anfield and playmaker Philippe Coutinho likely to be fit for their midweek cup assignment after a hamstring problem, Ibe says Liverpool will travel to the south coast full of confidence. "It was a big lift having the two of them back out there," Ibe told the Liverpool Echo. "Jordan and Daniel are big figures in the team and hopefully they will get back to form. We all know how important they can be for us on the pitch. "We've got good players coming back in and also Philippe Coutinho is close to being back as well, so hopefully we will climb even higher. "Anything is possible right now. We will take it game by game and try to do it again on Wednesday." In the sides' previous meeting this season, the points were shared after Saido Mane cancelled out Christian Benteke's opener on Merseyside. Ronald Koeman's side head into the match on the back of a 3-1 defeat at Manchester City and Liverpool have won on their last two visits to St Mary's. But Shane Long, Southampton's goalscorer on Saturday, feels the hosts have the strength in depth to exceed last season's quarter-final effort, when a surprise loss to Sheffield United halted their progress. "It was nice being back up front again and to give the gaffer a different option," Long told the club's official website. "We'll see what happens next week. I feel good how I'm playing at the moment and hopefully I'm giving a bit of a headache to put me in the starting XI. "We've got a big enough squad now to deal with a good cup run and that's what we want to do." |

By Shane Callaghan , Reporter Filed: Friday, November 27, 2015 at 19:33 UK Last Updated: Friday, November 27, 2015 at 19:33 UK Liverpool host struggling Swansea City at Anfield on Sunday hoping to kick on from their 4-1 demolition of Manchester City last weekend in what was arguably Jurgen Klopp 's finest moment so far. As one manager settles into the hot seat, Swansea's Garry Monk sits uncomfortable in his and defeat on Merseyside could yet spell the end of his stint with City. Liverpool Whether it is a watershed moment in the Klopp era or a false dawn, one thing is certain: Liverpool, on their day, can be exceptional and their obliteration of Manchester City proved that. The Reds, to a man, were superb last Saturday evening as a wonderful high-energy pressing tactic for the entire 90 minutes saw them demolish the title challengers. It was 4-1 but it could and should have been far more emphatic. It was a victory made all the more remarkable given that Klopp's side had lost 2-1 to Crystal Palace at Anfield in the previous game. They may be a bit Jekyll and Hyde, but few can cope with them at their monstrous best. Klopp was brash in his first press conference, predicting that he would deliver at least one Premier League title before he leaves Merseyside - the words of a manager with an unflinching belief in his own ability. With two Bundesliga crowns on his CV, why not? Given that he has already masterminded comfortable wins away to champions Chelsea and City with a team assembled by his predecessor Brendan Rodgers , it is difficult not to believe his title promise. This season, though, Champions League qualification is the aim. As it stands, Liverpool sit six points adrift of the top four. Their home form remains suspect, with Klopp drawing one and losing one of his first two league games at Anfield, but surely that will fall into place. Sunday is good a day as any to open his account at home. Recent form: DDDWLW Recent form (all competitions): WWWLWW Swansea City Last weekend's 2-2 draw at home to top- flight new boys Bournemouth will have done little to help Monk's cause. With just one victory since August, it can be no surprise to learn that Monk is odds-on favourite to be the next sacked Premier League manager. "I think one result or one good performance can change your whole mentality," the 36- year-old was quoted as saying by Wales Online during the week. He certainly needs one of those at Anfield on Sunday evening. However, the manner of the point against Bournemouth last week has given rise to suggestions that Swansea are not hanging their young manager out to dry just yet. City, whose last victory came against bottom- of-the-table Aston Villa in October, found themselves 2-0 behind with 26 minutes played at the Liberty Stadium, but Andre Ayew reduced the arrears, before Jonjo Shelvey equalised from the penalty spot on 39 minutes. Under the circumstances, it will have certainly felt like one point earned rather than two dropped, but it was also a sign that perhaps he has not lost the support of his players. He cannot afford to. Visiting Liverpool is the first in a trilogy of tricky fixtures for the Swans, who host top-of- the-table Leicester City next week, before then facing Manchester City on December 12. Five points separate Swansea from the relegation zone as it stands. Monk, for the first time in his blossoming managerial career, needs that big result he referred to during the week. Anything less and it could be the beginning of the end for him in South Wales. Recent form: DLWLLD Team News Sturridge is unlikely to figure on Sunday after suffering a setback as his long-awaited first game under Klopp looks poised to go on, while captain Jordan Henderson is still a bit away from first-team action. Lucas Leiva has been one of Liverpool's most impressive players under the German so far, but suspension means that Joe Allen is likely to displace him in the first XI. Martin Skrtel sat out the 2-1 Europa League win over Bordeaux through illness, and Kolo Toure could continue alongside Dejan Lovren - who has deputised for the injured Mamadou Sakho - in the middle of defence. Meanwhile, Swansea City midfielder Shelvey will miss the visit to his former club as he also serves out a one-game ban this weekend. Up front, Monk must decide whether to stick with Eder or bring back Bafetimbi Gomis , who has not scored since August. Liverpool possible starting lineup: Mignolet; Clyne, Toure, Lovren, Moreno; Allen, Can, Milner; Lallana, Coutinho, Firmino Swansea City possible starting lineup: Fabianski; Naughton, Bartley, Williams, Taylor; Ki, Britton; Ayew, Cork, Routledge; Eder Head To Head Ominously, Swansea City have lost five of their last six meetings with Liverpool in all competitions, with the only exception being a 2-2 draw in South Wales over two years ago. Furthermore, the Swans have shipped no fewer than 13 goals in their previous three Premier League visits to Anfield. Interestingly, Monk played for Swansea in their last away win over the Reds - a 3-1 League Cup victory in October 2012. They have never beaten them in league competition. http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/liverpool/preview/preview-liverpool-vs-swansea-city_259475.html |
Striker Daniel Sturridge could be fit enough to feature against former club Manchester City on Saturday, says Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp. Sturridge has not played under Klopp and has managed 242 minutes all season because of hip and knee injuries. Klopp said: "He is as fit as he can be after a long break. Of course he is not at 100% and we have to see. "But because he is that skilled maybe we should [include him]. As a striker sometimes five minutes are enough." The England international scored 24 times as Liverpool came close to the Premier League title in 2013-14 but has scored just six league goals since after a succession of injuries. Klopp has warned the 26-year-old that he now needs a lengthy spell of training to return to full fitness. Joe Hart is challenged by Jordan Henderson "For four-and-a-half weeks he has not trained; no cycling, running, nothing," he said. "Everyone wants to see more of Daniel on the pitch so you have to train but we have to find the right balance. "His quality is outstanding, we don't have to talk about this, but everyone needs training." Captain Jordan Henderson, who has been out since mid-August with a heel problem and then a broken bone in his foot, is expected back in training next week. And Klopp revealed that defender Mamadou Sakho, who sustained medial ligament damage against Crystal Palace, is not as seriously hurt as first thought. MATCH FACTS Head-to-head Liverpool are winless in their last six Premier League games away to Manchester City (drew two, lost four). Their most recent win at the Etihad Stadium was a 3-2 victory in 2008. That is their only victory in their last nine league games away to City (drew four, lost four). There have been at least three goals in each of the last six Premier League games between these sides - with a total of 23 goals scored. Manchester City City have drawn two of their last three league games 0-0 after a run of 60 matches without a goalless draw. Sergio Aguero has scored in all three of his Premier League appearances against Liverpool at the Etihad Stadium. They have allowed their opponents just 28 shots on target this season, while registering 83 efforts on target themselves. Both figures are the best in the Premier League this season. City have won 12 of their last 13 Premier League home games. Liverpool Victory would see Liverpool win back-to-back away games in the top flight for the first time since March. The Reds' tally of 13 goals from their opening 12 matches is their joint-lowest at this stage of a Premier League season. Philippe Coutinho has scored three goals in four Premier League appearances against Man City. Simon Mignolet has kept 13 Premier League clean sheets in 2015 - which is bettered only by Joe Hart's tally of 14. |

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew believes his side will meet a Liverpool squad that has the quality to comfortably finish in the Barclays Premier League's top four when they head to Anfield on Sunday. Jurgen Klopp has won three and drawn three in his first six fixtures after replacing Brendan Rodgers but Pardew says the ability in his opposition's squad is already there. Pardew's side have picked up one point from their past three league outings, as well as suffering a 5-1 defeat at Manchester City in the League Cup and Pardew anticipates another tough examination. "I thought in the summer that they have a top-four squad and that has not changed despite the change in manager," he said. "They are Liverpool and they should be top four. I think Christian Benteke is a terrific player and Klopp has arrived with great players there. "Benteke is a different kind of threat to what they have had before and a great signing. There is a higher press under Klopp's management and we know that is coming - we can cope with that. "But they carry great players and great players can change games - Roberto Firmino did that at Stoke. We have to focus on what they are not good at and defending is an issue at the club so we will look to exploit that. "We have come up against everyone in form, we are having one of those runs. But our performance against Manchester United, we must take great heart form that because only one team deserved to win it and that was us." Liverpool goalkeeper Simon Mignolet is in confident mood after he did not have a single shot to save in the Europa League win over Rubin Kazan on Thursday, his side's third straight victory in all competitions. "Three wins in a row have been great for our confidence but we need to look forward," Mignolet told the Liverpool Echo. "We need to recover as quickly as we can for the game on Sunday. With all the travelling we don’t have much time. "After the 3-1 win at Chelsea, the next day we were thinking about what we could improve and that is how we have to look at it again. We need to improve again for what will be a very tough fixture against Crystal Palace." Klopp will have to make do with a number of key players including Daniel Sturridge (knee), Kolo Toure (hamstring), Jordan Henderson (foot) as well as long-term absentees Joe Gomez, Danny Ings and Jon Flanagan. Connor Wickham and Marouane Chamakh are both back in training for Palace, although Pardew believes the Anfield game could come too soon for them. Dwight Gayle is also a major doubt having suffered a setback in training. Eighth-place Liverpool sit four points adrift of the top four and one clear of 10th-place Palace going into the weekend's action. CHELSEA - LIVERPOOL PREVIEW:
EMBATTLED MOURINHO READY
FOR KLOPP VISIT
By Sam Williams
The Blues need a boost on the end of a
torrid week, but their Portuguese boss
insists the struggling Premier League
champions are not short of confidence
Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool travel to face
Chelsea this Saturday, aware they can pile
more misery on Jose Mourinho's men.
Mourinho saw his beleaguered Blues lose
again in midweek - but the Portuguese
insists his players will be ready for the
visit of Liverpool at the weekend.
The Premier League champions have
endured a nightmare start to the season
and relinquished their grip on the League
Cup - which they won in March - with a
fourth-round penalty-shootout defeat at
Stoke City on Tuesday.
Mourinho's side, who sit 15th in the
Premier League, have won just one of their
last seven games in all competitions and
reports suggest that a loss to Jurgen
Klopp's Liverpool could spell the end of
the Portuguese's second reign at Stamford
Bridge.
However, while admitting that lifting his
squad for the weekend will be tough,
Mourinho feels Chelsea's stars can take
heart from their performance at the
Britannia Stadium.
"It's difficult - but it's more difficult when
you play very badly and lose, than playing
well and losing," the former Real Madrid
boss said.
"They go home with sadness but with a
positive feeling. How can [Eden] Hazard, or
Oscar, or [John-Obi] Mikel, or John Terry,
to say some names - I could say everyone
- how can they go home with a lack of
confidence?
"They played well, they didn't make many
mistakes. They participated in the game a
lot."
By contrast, Mourinho's opposite number
Klopp heads into Saturday's match riding
the crest of the wave of positivity
surrounding his appointment at Anfield.
Klopp oversaw his first win in charge of
Liverpool on Wednesday - a 1-0 League
Cup victory over AFC Bournemouth -
following three successive draws since
replacing Brendan Rodgers.
And the German was thrilled to finally get
off the mark.
"I feel much better than after a draw,"
Klopp said. "But I don't think the other
games were so much worse than today - of
course, the result is the biggest difference
and we did well tonight.
"I saw minute by minute we were better in
the game, we closed the spaces better and
the whole 90 minutes we played football
and created our chances.
"We didn't have any real experience
together, so I'm really satisfied - the boys
did really well."
Christian Benteke missed the Bournemouth
tie with a knee issue, but Klopp expects
the Belgian - who came off the bench to
score the opener in Liverpool's 1-1 draw
with Southampton last week - to be fit for
Saturday.
Daniel Sturridge continues to struggle with
a knee injury of his own and remains

Liverpool will be without strikers Christian Benteke and Daniel Sturridge for the visit of Premier League rivals Bournemouth in the League Cup. Both have knee injuries, with Benteke picking his up in Sunday's draw with Southampton, while James Milner is banned after earning five bookings. Bournemouth will assess some minor injuries after the 5-1 loss at Spurs. Tommy Elphick (ankle), Callum Wilson, Tyrone Mings and Max Gradel (all knee) are out with long-term injuries. The Reds are ninth in the Premier League table following Sunday's home draw against Southampton - their seventh 1-1 draw in nine matches. Bournemouth, who have suffered successive 5-1 defeats against Tottenham and Manchester City, have dropped to 17th after a four-match winless run. Klopp has 'big faith' in Reds Liverpool are searching for their first victory under new boss Jurgen Klopp, who replaced Brendan Rodgers earlier this month. But Klopp insists he is happy with his side's progress in the three matches of his reign. "Everybody can see we need the results," said the German. "We had results, not the most satisfying in the world. We didn't have the easiest opponents to play against. "If you are new in a club, normally you have more time, but if you don't you have to accept that the way is hard. "My faith in this team is really big. It's a really good working atmosphere in this squad." 'Firmino best in Bundesliga last year' Roberto Firmino has yet to score for Liverpool in nine appearances Injuries to Benteke and Sturridge mean Klopp is short of striker options - and with Divock Origi replaced at half-time by Benteke against Southampton, Roberto Firmino could be in contention for a place up front. Former Borussia Dortmund boss Klopp said of the former Hoffenheim player, who cost Liverpool £29m: "One year ago he was for a few months for sure the best player in the Bundesliga. "Everybody could see he can be a very, very good player. When I heard Liverpool took him I thought, 'good choice'. "He was injured but when he came in you could see he's strong, he's fast in a good football way. He's an important player for us and I hope he can play." http://m.bbc.com/sport/football/34589602 |

Match Preview Jurgen Klopp says he is well aware of Southampton's strengths and weaknesses as he goes in search of his first Liverpool win at Anfield this weekend. Amid much excitement around his appointment, the former Borussia Dortmund coach has overseen a pair of draws so far - 0-0 at Tottenham Hotspur in the Barclays Premier League and 1-1 on his Anfield bow against 10-man Rubin Kazan in the UEFA Europa League. Liverpool have shown signs of promise under Klopp but welcome a Southampton side unbeaten in four across all competitions. Saints’ last away trip brought maximum points against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and Ronald Koeman's men could face a Liverpool side without Daniel Sturridge (knee). Roberto Firmino and Christian Benteke are fit and available after their cameos in midweek following fitness problems. "We have to look at how the players are after a very intensive game," Klopp told reporters. “We'll see what we can do for Sunday "It's obvious what their strength is. They are well organised, they try to press high with six players and four stay a little bit deeper. “You have to play football if you can, you have to fight for first balls, you have to fight for second balls - that's what they do. "They want to play if you let them. If not, they have [Graziano] Pelle. It's a good thing to give him the ball because he's very physical and technical, a really good striker. "They have [Sadio] Mane around him - big speed, a big talent, a really good player. And [Dusan] Tadic on the left wing; I heard he had the most crosses in the Premier League. "They are in good shape and they have seven points from the last three games. They are a good team and it's not an easy game. But we are at home and that's what we want to show." Southampton have lost their last three BPL meetings with Liverpool, scoring just once courtesy of Nathaniel Clyne - who is likely to start against them on Sunday following his switch to Anfield in July. Steven Davis, Victor Wanyama and Jay Rodriguez are expected to feature for the visitors despite fitness concerns although Shane Long (ankle) remains ruled out. Of Klopp's arrival, Koeman commented: "[It got] a lot of attention in the press but it isn't easy because as a new manager you need time. "I was surprised how [well] they played the first 30 minutes against Tottenham - it was like a different Liverpool. High pressing, yesterday [against Rubin] was different but that's normal. "You need time to put everything you want as a new manager in place but there's a lot of speculation as it's Liverpool, one of the biggest teams in the Premier League. "New managers bring new details for the team and the system will be changed, maybe some players get opportunities, but it's not so easy that you see in one or two weeks a big difference." CHELSEA - LIVERPOOL PREVIEW: EMBATTLED MOURINHO READY FOR KLOPP VISIT By Sam Williams The Blues need a boost on the end of a torrid week, but their Portuguese boss insists the struggling Premier League champions are not short of confidence Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool travel to face Chelsea this Saturday, aware they can pile more misery on Jose Mourinho's men. Mourinho saw his beleaguered Blues lose again in midweek - but the Portuguese insists his players will be ready for the visit of Liverpool at the weekend. The Premier League champions have endured a nightmare start to the season and relinquished their grip on the League Cup - which they won in March - with a fourth-round penalty-shootout defeat at Stoke City on Tuesday. Mourinho's side, who sit 15th in the Premier League, have won just one of their last seven games in all competitions and reports suggest that a loss to Jurgen Klopp's Liverpool could spell the end of the Portuguese's second reign at Stamford Bridge. However, while admitting that lifting his squad for the weekend will be tough, Mourinho feels Chelsea's stars can take heart from their performance at the Britannia Stadium. "It's difficult - but it's more difficult when you play very badly and lose, than playing well and losing," the former Real Madrid boss said. "They go home with sadness but with a positive feeling. How can [Eden] Hazard, or Oscar, or [John-Obi] Mikel, or John Terry, to say some names - I could say everyone - how can they go home with a lack of confidence? "They played well, they didn't make many mistakes. They participated in the game a lot." By contrast, Mourinho's opposite number Klopp heads into Saturday's match riding the crest of the wave of positivity surrounding his appointment at Anfield. Klopp oversaw his first win in charge of Liverpool on Wednesday - a 1-0 League Cup victory over AFC Bournemouth - following three successive draws since replacing Brendan Rodgers. And the German was thrilled to finally get off the mark. "I feel much better than after a draw," Klopp said. "But I don't think the other games were so much worse than today - of course, the result is the biggest difference and we did well tonight. "I saw minute by minute we were better in the game, we closed the spaces better and the whole 90 minutes we played football and created our chances. "We didn't have any real experience together, so I'm really satisfied - the boys did really well." Christian Benteke missed the Bournemouth tie with a knee issue, but Klopp expects the Belgian - who came off the bench to score the opener in Liverpool's 1-1 draw with Southampton last week - to be fit for Saturday. Daniel Sturridge continues to struggle with a knee injury of his own and remains doubtful, but James Milner is available after suspension. Mourinho also faces a headache up front, with Diego Costa suffering a rib injury at Stoke, leaving the Spain frontman's status for the weekend in question. Branislav Ivanovic (hamstring) is likely to miss out for Chelsea, while Pedro is also a doubt. http://m.goal.com/s/en-ng/match/chelsea-vs-liverpool/2043149/preview |

Tottenham Draw Liverpool FOOTBALL By Barney Corkhill, Staff Reporter Filed: Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 18:00 UK Last Updated: Thursday, October 15, 2015 at 18:00 UK All eyes will be on the away dugout on Saturday lunchtime as Jurgen Klopp takes charge of his first match as Liverpool manager at White Hart Lane. Hosts Tottenham Hotspur will look to spoil their party in the opening Premier League game of the weekend, with just one point separating the two sides in the table. Tottenham Spurs will play second fiddle to the Klopp show in North London this weekend, but in terms of matters on the field, they will be confident of extending their unbeaten run in the league to eight matches. content continues after the advert Mauricio Pochettino's side are the only team to still be unbeaten since the opening day of the season, and there is a sense that they are moving in the right direction after what was a slow start to the campaign. No wins and just three points from their opening four games raised questions, but they have since picked up 10 from the next 12 available, including a memorable 4-1 triumph over Manchester City. Indeed, another win this weekend could see them climb as high as second in the table for a few hours at least, with Arsenal and Manchester United not playing until later on the Saturday. That would require a return to winning ways, however, after Tottenham were twice forced to come from behind to rescue a draw with Swansea City before the international break, Christian Eriksen getting both of his side's goals from direct free kicks at the Liberty Stadium. Harry Kane was also on the scoresheet in that game, although the striker netted at the wrong end to match his scoring tally in opposition goals so far this season - the England international's strike against Manchester City remains his solitary one for Spurs since May. For the team as a whole, though, it will be a welcome return to home comforts. They remain unbeaten in front of their own fans in the league this season, while their last outing at White Hart Lane was that drubbing of Man City. Indeed, despite Spurs struggling at times in front of their own fans in recent seasons, their last five Premier League home defeats have been by just one goal - the last visiting team to win by more in the top flight was Liverpool themselves in August 2014. Recent form: DDWWWD Recent form (all competitions): wWLWDD Liverpool For a man unwilling to be the centre of attention, Klopp will need to get used to the spotlight during the first few weeks of his Liverpool tenure in particular. content continues after the advert The German was understood to be coveted by a number of top clubs following his work with Borussia Dortmund, whom he transformed from a bottom-half Bundesliga side into two- time title winners and Champions League finalists. The situation at Liverpool is not quite as dire as the job he inherited at Dortmund, but the expectation levels are higher and a significant rebuild is still required if the Reds are to return to the top. It looked for one season at least as though Brendan Rodgers could be the man to fulfil that role on Merseyside, but the Luis Suarez - inspired Premier League near miss proved to be the highlight of the Northern Irishman's trophyless three years at the helm. Serious questions have been raised over Rodgers's transfer record at Anfield, but ultimately it was results that proved to be his undoing - a sixth-placed finish last season followed by just one league win in six this time around was not deemed good enough and his spell in charge was ended shortly after a 1-1 draw with local rivals Everton before the international break. A point at Goodison Park was certainly not the worst result of his tenure, but needing penalties to overcome League Two side Carlisle United, defeats to West Ham United and Manchester United, and draws with Norwich City and Sion were damning enough. Klopp, who is just the second German manager to ever be appointed in the English top flight, now has the task of restoring the feelgood factor to the club, and he has already promised to bring more aggression, bravery and fun to the squad. A win over expected European rivals Spurs would be a fine start, but Gerard Houllier is the only Liverpool manager to have won his first Premier League match in charge of the club, doing so in 1998 when in joint control with Roy Evans. Goals will be high on the agenda for Klopp, with Liverpool having managed just eight all season so far - only Watford, West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle United have found the net fewer times in the top flight. Away form is another issue that needs addressing, as Liverpool's opening-day victory at Stoke City remains their solitary win in their last nine league games on the road - a run that stretches back to March. Klopp has been dubbed 'The Normal One' since his arrival at the club, but Liverpool fans will be hoping that he is the man to bring the special times back to Anfield. Recent form: DLLDWD Recent form (all competitions): DDWWDD Team News Klopp's opening week or so at Liverpool has not been without incident, and he has already lost two players to season-ending injuries. Danny Ings suffered an anterior cruciate ligament injury in training on Wednesday, with that news being confirmed less than a day after Joe Gomez was also ruled out for the remainder of the campaign with the same problem. Aside from that, Klopp will also be without Christian Benteke (hamstring), Jordan Henderson (foot) and Roberto Firmino (back), but Philippe Coutinho (groin) and Dejan Lovren (ankle) could be fit for selection. The new manager has promised that there won't be wholesale changes to the team, but the likes of Adam Lallana, Joe Allen and Jordon Ibe will be hoping for a recall to the starting XI. Spurs are also without a number of players, with their main problems coming in midfield. Eric Dier, who has impressed in that role so far this season, is suspended having picked up five yellow cards already, while Nabil Bentaleb, Ryan Mason and Alex Pritchard are also sidelined. Son Heung-min is expected to miss the rest of the month with a foot injury, but Spurs will have Dele Alli available fresh from making his first appearances for England during the international break. Tottenham possible starting lineup: Lloris; Walker, Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Davies; Alli, Dembele; Lamela, Eriksen, Chadli; Kane Liverpool possible starting lineup: Mignolet; Clyne, Skrtel, Sakho, Moreno; Lucas, Can, Milner, Coutinho, Lallana; Sturridge Head To Head Liverpool have dominated this fixture in recent times, winning the last five league meetings between the two sides - the first time they have achieved that feat since 1976. Neither side has ever won six in a row. Indeed, Spurs haven't lost six in a row against any side since Newcastle United between 2006-08, although they have shipped 18 goals in the previous five meetings, scoring just four themselves. The Reds have won 5-0 and 3-0 on their last two visits to White Hart Lane, but the latest clash between these two was a much closer affair as Mario Balotelli 's only league goal for Liverpool handed them a 3-2 win in February. None of Liverpool's goalscorers in that match are still with the club, though. We say: Tottenham 2-2 Liverpool It is always tough to make a prediction with a new man at the helm, but there is little doubt that Liverpool will be boosted by the arrival of Klopp. Even so, it is not an easy one for him to start off with, and Spurs have established themselves as a very hard team to beat this season. There are usually goals between these two sides, but unlike recent meetings, we think that they will be shared evenly on this occasion. http://www.sportsmole.co.uk/football/liverpool/preview/preview-tottenham-vs-liverpool_252503.html |
