NYSC / Re: Opinion: NYSC Has Outlived Its Usefulness by LuvsBeautifl: 1:43pm On Oct 11, 2023
True.

While I agree with the OP's submission, it is however important to note that not everyone is cut out for entrepreneurship. It may be safe to let the NYSC transform into graduate roles, both in the private and public sector. If young graduates know they have two years of their graduate program to give their best to an organisation, they would definitely give in their very best. If we can do this, it will take just six months for the country to begin to experience marked difference.

And importantly, the pay must be commensurate with the roles, not their current 33K fixed allawee.

Well, there is no one size fits all pattern. First thing is you both should be on the same page. As long as you're both ready then you can decide which should come first. However, ideally, you should ask her first, and when she agrees, you can move on to your parents, except you're having the reservation that your parents may not want her, making it easy for you to dissolve the relationship before it goes any further.

But if that is not the case, then na who get something or has the power over something (please I'm in no way objectifying the woman, just making an allegory) you want, na you need to ask their permission, not who needs to ne informed about your intention of wanting or needing the something.

Anyway, you guys do whatever works for you and good luck.

Globad:

You should have an idea of how it should be put especially if you want to give an opinion on the meaning of "AND"

If those who wrote that clause tell you that what you've written isn't what they meant, how would you have told them to write it?

There's a difference between:

A. 25% of 36 states AND FCT

B. 25% of 36 states AND 25% of FCT

Option B is what you guys have in mind

Well let those that made the law interpret it. All we saying in this article here, thesame interpretation used for OBJ VS BUHARI should be considered, because it's thesame law, thesame occurrence, but different persons.

Once again, whoever is favoured is not the thing here. We only want the law interpreted thesame way for every and anybody.

Let me ask you a question

How should the constitution put it if Abuja is to be considered as a state?

I don't know how it should be put in that case. All I'm saying is, the 'AND' brings a condition for both criteria where one cannot exist without the other.

Both needs to operate at thesame time irrespective of who will be favored.

The problem here is different interpretations has been given under different circumstances.

But the law uses "AND" FCT, which is very clear.

FCT in that clause is not regarded as one of the other states according to the electoral law.

Let's see how this plays out. But the world is watching.

28 people died in 2023 election but 800 in 2011: President-elect Tinubu
“The 2011 polls recorded 800 deaths, the 2015 polls recorded 100 deaths, and the 2019 polls recorded 150 deaths. However, the 2023 polls recorded no more than 28 deaths.”

PRESS RELEASE • APRIL 13, 2023

TEXT OF THE PARLEY HELD WITH THE INTERNATIONAL MEDIA AT THE NATIONAL PRESS CENTER, WASHINGTON D.C, UNITED STATES ON WEDNESDAY, APRIL 12TH, 2023 BY REPRESENTATIVES OF THE PRESIDENT-ELECT, SENATOR BOLA AHMED TINUBU – MR. FESTUS KEYAMO, SAN (CHIEF SPOKESPERSON AND MINISTER OF STATE, LABOUR); MR. SUNDAY DARE (MINISTER OF YOUTH AND SPORTS); MR. AJURI NGELALE (ASST. PRINCIPAL SPOKESPERSON).

PROTOCOLS

INTRODUCTION

(1) It is our pleasure and privilege to welcome you to the National Press Center in Washington D.C for this interactive session on Nigeria’s Presidential Election, 2023. We do not intend to make this a long-winding and boring session, so we shall go straight to the points we intend to make to clear some of the fallacies that have been peddled around the world by the sore losers at the said election.

PREPARATION FOR THE ELECTIONS: A LEVEL PLAYING FIELD

(2) The country’s out-going President, Muhammadu Buhari, signed into law a Bill that seeks to improve our electoral process by introducing technology as a means of accrediting voters at the polling units. This is known as the ELECTORAL ACT, 2022. The opposition and international observers hailed him on this.

(3) There was also complete non-interference in the political process by State institutions. There were no reports of deployment of security agents or State apparati in support of the candidate of the ruling party. In fact, in some instances, the opposition celebrated the fact that our candidate had no support of the Government. These led to well-published reports (albeit false) that the President was not in support of the candidate of his own party.

THE STATE OF THE LEADING PARTIES BEFORE THE ELECTIONS

(4) The ruling party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) controlled 21 out of the 36 States of the country and the FCT before the elections with elected Governors; whilst the main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) had 14 Governors and the All Progressives Grand Alliance had one Governor. The Labour Party had no single Governor or elected official at any level of Government.

(5) About eight months to the elections, the main opposition, the PDP, suffered some major set-backs. Its Vice-Presidential Candidate in 2019, Mr. Peter Obi moved to the Labour Party with his supporters, mainly from his region of origin, the South-East. Another of the Party’s main pillar of support in the North-West, Alhaji Musa Kwakwanso moved to the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), taking with him a chunk of the party’s supporters in that region. Five (5) out of the 14 Governors of the PDP, publicly announced they would not be campaigning for or supporting its Presidential Candidate (Alhaji Atiku Abubakar). Meanwhile, the ruling party remained one huge, indivisible entity with no departure of any of its elected officials or public dissent from them. It was in this state of affairs that all the parties went into the elections.

THE ELECTION OF FEBRUARY 25TH, 2023

(6) Contrary to the false outcry by the opposition, the main technological device, Bi-modal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS) did not fail on the election day. All the local and international observers scored the use of BVAS very high, with one local body called YIAGA, working in coalition with the EU and other International Observers, saying it recorded 88% success in all the polling units it monitored. The Nigeria Bar Association also issued its report saying only 8 percent of voters were not satisfied with the process on that day. The portal that the opposition made so much noise about, IREV, is just a viewing portal, which has nothing to do with accreditation or verification of voters or even the counting or recording of votes.

(7) Whilst we hold no brief for the Electoral Commission, it sufficiently explained to Nigerians the next day that the delay in uploading the results to the viewing portal was as a result of a technical glitch. And since the results have since been uploaded eventually, none of the parties have produced their own copies of the result sheets obtained at various polling units that substantially contradicts the results released and announced by the Electoral Commission. Even in their Election Petitions presently before the Court, no such alternative figures have been provided. So, what is all the fuss about?

(cool It is significant to note that some other elections into the Senate and House of Representatives held on the same day, at the same time and with the same personnel. The opposition candidates have since gleefully gone to collect their Certificates of Return for the various seats they won. Why did they not reject the outcome of those elections too and reject their Certificate of Return? This is hypocrisy taken too far.

THE RESULT OF THE ELECTION

(9) On Wednesday, the 1st of March, 2023, the Electoral Commission announced the results as follows:

§ APC – 8,794,726 (36.61%)

§ PDP – 6,984,520 (29.07%)

§ LP – 6,101,533 (25.40%)

§ NNPP – 1,496,687(6.23%)

Other smaller parties scored some negligible figures.

(10) The winner, Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu has since collected his Certificate of Return and the Transition Committees are working hard towards a smooth transition.

THE ANALYSES AND CREDIBILITY OF THE RESULTS

(11) Our Constitution requires a Presidential candidate to secure the highest number of votes and score at at least one-quarter of the votes in two-thirds of the States of the Federation which includes the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

Only Senator Bola Ahmed Tinubu met these requirements especially that of the spread (he scored 25 percent and above in 29 States), even though all 3 top candidates won 12 States each. The candidate of the PDP scored 25% and above in just 21 States, falling short of the 24 States required and the candidate of the Labour Party scored 25% and above in 15 States plus the Federal Capital Territory, making it 16 States. There was just no pathway to victory for these candidates who did not have the requisite national acceptability. So, how tenable is the claim of rigging the elections? We see none

(12) It is significant to note that the elections were so credible that it threw up some upsets in our otherwise settled demography. For the first time, 20 sitting Governors lost their States, mostly those of the ruling party. Seven Governors who sought elections into the Senate failed to scale through. This has never happened in the history of Nigeria. In addition, the President-Elect lost his home State (Lagos State); the sitting President lost his home State (Katsina State); the Director-General of the Campaign lost his home State (Plateau State); the ruling Party Chairman lost his home State (Nassarawa State); the Chairman of the ruling Party’s Governor Forum lost his home State (Kebbi State) and the ruling party lost some of its traditional strong holds like Yobe State, Kaduna State and Kano State. All these go to show that it was a keenly contested election and one of the most credible in our history.

(13) The reports of some irregularities and violence in some polling units could not have affected the overall outcome of the elections too. There are 176,974 polling units in Nigeria and infractions and violence were recorded in less than one percent of these units. How could these have affected the overall results of the elections? Whilst we look forward to an era when there would be no single casualty during elections in Nigeria, however, the statistics show that 2023 recorded the lowest casualty rates ever. During the 1964/65 elections about 200 deaths were recorded as a result of election violence; 1993 election recorded 100 deaths; 1999 election recorded 80 deaths; 2003 polls recorded 100 deaths and 2007 polls recorded 300 deaths. The 2011 polls recorded 800 deaths, the 2015 polls recorded 100 deaths and the 2019 polls recorded 150 deaths. However, the 2023 polls recorded no more than 28 deaths as a result of election violence. So, the claim that this is the “worst” election so far is totally unfounded.

(14) In conclusion, our laws have provided for settled means by which election disputes are resolved. The aggrieved parties have taken advantage of this remedy by filing their cases in Court. We urge them to have faith in our judicial system and desist from spreading false tales about our election across the world.

Meanwhile, arrangements for the handover ceremonies are in full gear. The President-Elect will take his Oath of Office as President of Nigeria on May 29th, 2023. You are all invited.

Thank you.

The same problem I am facing now. If I manage to resolve this problem I will never bank with opay again. Infact I will discourage many not to bank with them. There customer service is zero. Their app is not friendly and self directive

Well, I wouldn't totally fault OPay. I got to the very bottom of this one. OPay confirmed everytime I reached then, through all means that they delivered the money to the bank.

So I decided to email the bank (UBA). To get a faster response I copied CBN's complaint email address. It took some time but they replied me and said they have delivered the money to their customer.

I had to reach back to the person (who was still adamant they didn't get the money, despite confirming to them their bank confirmed the receipt of the money) to check their statement.

Someone dropped a screenshot of how to report. Just follow the procedure. I used it.

Goodluck.

Sports / Israel Adesanya: Nigeria Very Corrupt Place by LuvsBeautifl: 6:20pm On Apr 11, 2023
New Zealander-Nigerian mixed martial artist, Israel Adesanya has described Nigeria as “a very corrupt place”.

He said he loves Nigerians but there are a lot of red flags about the country.

The Last Stylebender was featured in the recent episode of the Hut Boxin’ audiovisual podcast.

Adesanya pointed out that the Nigerian leaders are desperate to loot public funds.

He said, “Nigeria is a very corrupt place. I love my people but it is just that the government; everyone trying to find a way to siphon money.”

Recall that Israel Adesanya donned the Nigerian flag as he defeated long-term foe Alex Pereira via knockout at UFC 287 on April 9, 2023, to reclaim his Middleweight title.

He was paid $3.18 million for his fight against the Brazilian, making him the third current highest-paid UFC Fighter, behind Conor McGregor and Jon Jones.

It is his highest-ever payout.

I will eventually take them seriously when they actually sanction these persons.

This is not the first time the US and the UK have promised/assured such penalties for electoral offences, but till date no action has been taken.

Let's see how this will unfold this time.

I doubt what happened in Libya was up to this when the "Democracy givers" stormed Libya and killed Gadaffi. Talk about hypocrisy.

Me I grow up for ghetto, no reason am o. But dad had a very tough and rough time growing. From a polygamous home. When he was doing his ND, sometimes he went to bed without food. It was very rough for him. So he promised himself his kids won't go through that. We didn't have so much, but the little my dad had, he well sacrificed for our comfort.

My father did not raise me as a woman child, but as his child. Gave me everything that I needed to succeed, including authority.

I am from the south south region, and a lot of times, women are not paid much attention because they say she'll end up in a man's kitchen.

Oh I now understand your predicament. It’s sad that OPay has few physical branches of not this would have been a walkover.

You will need to go to a uba bank branch near you and complain about what happened at their customer care desk. They will tell you to go to your bank and tell them to officially issue a notice to uba concerning the transaction but since it’s OPay you can try to convince them that OPay has no branch office and their customer care team is telling you that you should come to meet the uba representatives to handle this case.

I pray you find a solution. Good luck

Thanks.

In this case you will need to go to your own bank and inform them that the recipient of that particular transfer/transaction is claiming he/she didn’t receive it in their account.

Of course your bank will check and inform you that it indeed arrived/dropped into the designated account but then you will push them to flag that transaction because the owner of that other account is claiming that they haven’t received it.

Once your bank has been successfully pushed to flag that transaction the recipients bank will then freeze the persons account and notify the customer to come to bank to rectify the issue and possibly return the funds.

I believe by this stage the person should have started contacting you to say they have finally seen the cash grin

Okay. Now, this is where OPay comes in. It is now left for them to contact UBA to flag that payment, because the transfer was from my OPay account. We don't have OPay's physical office, except in Lagos and some very few states, if I'm not mistaken. OPay ought to contact UBA and resolve this. But they are pushing me to do that, and twice I have emailed UBA, even copying CBN once, but till today, they have not responded.

OPay is very easy to use. Whenever you have a failed pos or money transfer transaction (declined or other error) you do not need to call their customer care support or send mails.

Just fire open your OPay app and you can lodge your complaints via their customer support page right there on their app.

Pic 1: that’s the way to lodge complaints ’in app’

Pic 2: Report transfer dispute is for those bank to bank transfers that has issues. You will just highlight the failed/problematic transaction from your history and they will review it. Report card dispute is for those pos atm card transactions that either decline or fail but you still got debited. For this option you will need to have a copy of the receipt which you will snap and upload to them and they will review the transaction.

Pic 3: while using this method the transaction dispute/issue is usually resolved within 3 - 5 working days.

Pic 4: the only dispute transactions I have ever had while using OPay this emefiele period the circled is how to create a new dispute for resolution

Thanks for the input. This was my first call of action. They only told me that the beneficiary's bank has received it and that was all. However, the beneficiary confirmed they have not seen the transfer. This is a business woman. Now how do I go about and ask for her account statement? I really don't know how to get around this

Calling out their names like this is disgusting and very childish on your part...grow up fast, u can't continue like this

Sorry if you know them, my apologies, but I'm not taking down their names. It's because people feel their are no repercussions, it's why they do what they do.

What if that was my last card and I'm struggling to get food for my kids? Did that cross your mind.

If people cannot be held accountable for their actions, the. The cycle will continue.

Why would someone do that, queue for a long time and get their chat terminated just because someone needs to hit their target.

I don't get victimized easily. Hanhan.

And for someone that's very mature, quite amazing about the "disgust and childish" comments.

I'm not sure if this is the right section to post this, if it isn't I'd appreciate if the admin can move it to the right section.

I have made two transactions on OPay recently. The first is for over a week to UBA and the second is over 24 hours to FirstBank.

My OPay account has been debited for both transactions but the beneficiaries never received any money.

I contacted OPay support, which if I have to rate, I would give them a minus 1 star if possible.

The first support staff ELIJAH really was very unfair. He introduced himself, and after a while ended the chat after I provided him with the session ID of the transaction. I suspect he was trying to hit the complaint resolution target for the day, but that was very unfair and dubious.

The second chat support staff, LAUREL (according to OPay system), but she introduced herself as LAURETTA.

She tried to help but the resolution channel/advice is almost impossible. I was asked to provide the beneficiary account statement from that date to present for them to escalate. How do I walk up to someone and ask for their business account statement?

I have been advised to repay the monies, both, but it's really unfair.

I have called, emailed, tweeted. Done everything possible to no avail, and I thought of here. This is my last hope.

Please if you have any idea how I can resolve this please help.

Thanks.

This part here has me thinking "The court also struck out Asiya’s husband demand for document of properties which he claimed belongs to him."

Does it mean all the properties accrued during the years of the marriage, none came from the man?

Also, I didn't know Sharia court had the power to dis-annul a marriage.

Well...... I'm certainly learning.
