What's up with us always wanting to defend crooks given they are our tribesmen or from our region down South? I don't see Muslims or Northerners going up in arms when Buhari goes after one if them over corruption related issues.

Imagine a Chief Justice saying he "forgot" to declare a bank account owned by him! How can anyone with a brain, even a retarded one, step up to defend this?

Aren't we simply telling ourselves "it is okay to be a thief as long as you're my brother"?

Senator Ayogu Eze, The All Progressive Congress, APC, Guber candidate for Enugu State today visited Parklane General Hospital, Enugu to empathize with the party members that were involved in an accident yesterday.

The affected party members were returning from Owerri yesterday after attending the Women and Youths Zonal rally for President Buhari and Osinbanjo reelection held at Dan Anyiam Stadium, Owerri, Imo State before the ugly incident occurred at Awgu axis.

The APC governorship candidate who was at the Accident and Emergency department of the hospital to get a first hand information on the degree of injury sustained by the party members thanked God that no live was lost. He also offered cash gift to the state Chairman of the Party, Barr Ben Nwoye to aid in settling the hospital bills of the victims.

He enjoined them to have absolute faith in God, stay strong and be of high spirit as nothing will happen to them .

Senator Eze also thanked the health workers, Nurses and Doctors on duty for their efforts in attending to the victims promptly.

The State party Chairman, Barr Ben Nwoye thanked the party’s flagbearer for his magnanimity and show of love.
He said that his action today has once again shown that indeed, Enugu State will be in safe hands when he takes over Lion Building as his humility and selflessness is second to know.

The State Women Leader of the APC, Chief Mrs. Oby Nwofor who couldn’t hide her joy for what Senator Ayogu did for the women who are the victims of the accident said the action of Senator Ayogu Eze has lifted their spirit to continue working for the party as it is evident that they are dealing with a leader that will always stand with them in good times and most importantly, in difficult times as he has shown today.

Some of the relatives of the victims who couldn’t hide their joy thanked Senator Ayogu Eze for his concern as this has once more restored their faith in the party as a family of brothers and sisters that doesn’t discriminate no matter your status.

One of Nigeria’s senior lawyers, Mike Ozekhome, has called for a total shutdown of courts across the country to protest President Muhammadu Buhari’s “onslaught against the judiciary.”

Mr. Ozekhome also urged Nigerians to defend the nation’s democracy, adding that a strong judiciary is one of the fundamental platforms for any meaningful constitutional government.

According to him, the Buhari administration is setting the stage to scuttle the nation’s democracy by using strong hand and brute force.

He argued that the government has been consistently intolerant of dissenting voices and had invaded the homes of judges, laid siege on the National Assembly and the residences of Senate president and his deputy.

“It is clear that this government, which protects its own members, however corrupt and despicable, has blown into full maximum dictatorship, totalitarianism and absolutism. Nigerians must say no to fascism,” Mr. Ozekhome stated.

“The latest onslaught is against the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Walter Nkanu Onnoghen, a man of great nobility, erudition and lucidity of thought.

“It has come to light that the government has hurriedly filed charges against Onnoghen, even with a motion (most curiously and unusually), that he should recuse himself from his Chief Justice-ship until the case filed against him is finally determined by the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT).

“This is to force him out of office. The phoney and ridiculous charges are that Onnoghen failed to declare his assets and that he also maintains domiciliary accounts, contrary to the provisions of the Code of Conduct Bureau Act,” Mr. Ozekhome said.

He insisted that the charges are political, and designed to intimidate the judiciary ahead of the 2019 presidential election and force out Justice Onnoghen, who, as the CJN, will constitute the Presidential Election Tribunal that will entertain disputes arising from the election.

According to him, many facts support the theory including that the petitioner, committed the Freudian slip by anchoring the petition on “bearing in mind the imminence of the 2019 general elections and the overwhelming role of the judicial arm both before and after…”

The second fact, he said is even after the recommendation of Mr. Onnoghen as CJN by the NJC on October 13, 2016, it took Vice President Yemi Osibanjo to appoint him as CJN on March 1, 2017.

He said the appointment followed outrage by a majority of Nigerians, and at a time the president was abroad on medical vacation.

The third fact is Justice Onnoghen became the first Southerner to be made CJN in 30 years, after the last Southerner, Justice Ayo Irikefe, occupied that exalted office in 1987.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, said the massive achievements of the Buhari Administration have rattled the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.

Reacting to the statement from Abubakar’s media aide, over the widely-circulated testimony series of the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture to showcase the Administration’s achievements, the Minister said the action of the PDP candidate amounts to an acknowledgement of the Administration’s impressive achievements.

He dismissed as ‘acute paranoia’ the allegation by the former Vice President that the APC-led federal government is using state resources for electioneering campaign.

Alhaji Mohammed however said, in a statement issued in Ilorin on Friday, that it is up to those who made the accusation on the use of
state resources for electioneering campaign to prove it, in line with the maxim that he who alleges must prove.

”In publicising the activities and achievements of the federal government, the Federal Ministry of Information and Culture is only
carrying out its statutory role. Long before the elections, the Ministry has used various platforms, including Town Hall Meetings, to
showcase the activities and achievements of the Administration.

”We understand that the PDP and the Atiku Campaign Organization have been rattled by the achievements as well as the effectiveness of the campaign to showcase them. We are sorry we can’t help them,” Alhaji Mohammed said.

He however expressed surprise that the PDP that said the Buhari Administration has not achieved anything has now turned around to
admit that the media is awash with video testimonies from Nigerians on the Administration’s achievements.

An unidentified middle-aged man was in the early hours of Saturday found hanging from a tree on Catholic Mission Road, opposite the Court of Appeal in Lagos Island.

The man, clad in Ankara native attire, was found hanging on a rope which looked like a braided long scarf, tied to a fruit tree.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) correspondent, who was at the scene of the suspected suicide, reports that the episode drew the attention of a mammoth crowd who stood in groups chatting and wondering what could have pushed the man to hang himself.

Policemen at the scene of the incident confirmed the happening, but told NAN that they were not allowed to comment on the issue yet until proper investigation was carried out.

They said they would not loosen the noose around the man’s neck or search his pockets for identification purposes until doctors arrived to confirm him officially dead.

Some of the people, who had gathered at the scene, busied themselves taking pictures, but no one could identify the man hanging from the tree.

Mr Ige Adedoja, a resident of the area, who was at the scene of the incident, said that traditional rites needed to be performed before anyone could loosen the noose from the man’s neck.

He said that he met many people at the scene and that no-one but doctors could confirm the actual time of death.

The man was still hanging as at press time.

Former SGF, Babachir David Lawal has said that the Presidential Candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar is no match for President Muhammadu Buhari in the upcoming 2019 elections.

PoliticsNGR gathered that Lawal, in a recent interview with Sun, described Atiku as a 'Facebook Politician', adding that President Buhari trumps him in all aspects including height, looks and integrity.

In his words;

"Atiku is a Facebook politician. He gets all these smart boys and gives them laptop or smart phone and they write. They write anything they like. And then you go back and say ah, I am very, very popular or they organise bogus survey. Look, those who vote don’t have smart phones, they don’t have TV, and they just have in their minds that it is Buhari they want. The voter does not watch television.

He doesn’t have time even if there is electricity in his village or even if there is GSM network in his village. He doesn’t have the money to buy data bundle. So, they are just deceiving people and just deceiving themselves, thinking that PDP has something and I think PDP, their campaign structure has disintegrated."

He stated further;

"Everywhere all over the country, if it is a matter of choice, you place Atiku side by side with Buhari, it is doubtful if anybody will pick Atiku. Is it experience? Buhari has more experience.

He was head of state, Atiku was only vice president. Is it height? Buhari is taller. Is it looking fine? Buhari looks a fine man. So, whatever it is. Is it integrity? Whatever! There is no comparison at all. That simplifies the issues for us, the fact that it is a straight-forward choice before the voter. It is a straight choice between Atiku and Buhari. So, there is no comparison at all. There is none."
