when an African power house plays against any top ranking European opponent forget the FIFA ranking status. Cameroon did it, Senegal did it, Ghana at some point proved it, and Nigeria keeps on doing such. forget the ranking if you are a good footballing nation you can beat any team. not forgetting Costa Rica at the last world cup, a team from no where proving a point and didn't loose a match in 90 mins. until they met the Dutch side. Give it to them also for standing against high ranking sides like Italy, Uruguay and England

Joel's experience beautiful
ighalo's experience noticeable.
Gk Uzoho's experience is way below what we should experiment with. fair enough he has played 90 mins without conceding. But let's not bank on such stats to be objective. we need one of those GK's from israel pronto!!

Talented Midfielder Released By Tottenham After Pledging International Future To Nigeria

English Premier League side Tottenham Hotspur have parted company with talented Nigerian midfielder Moroyin Omolabi.
According to the English Football Association’s official website, Omolabi's registration with Tottenham Hotspur has been cancelled by mutual consent, paving the way for him to try his luck elsewhere.
Championship outfit Reading are believed to be in pole position for the services of the versatile midfielder.
The 18-year-old has been training with the Royals for more than one month and figured for their U18 team in their 6-2 loss to Arsenal in the U18 Premier League and was an unused substitute for the U23s against Aston Villa in the Premier League 2 Division Two just five days ago.
Omolabi celebrated his maiden competitive goal in the colours of Tottenham Hotspur against West Ham in October 2017.
That same month, he committed his international future to Nigeria, and sources close to the player informed
allnigeriasoccer.com that he was queried by Spurs for choosing the African powerhouse ahead of his country of birth.
Before this official announcement, Moroyin Omolabi had planned to depart Tottenham Hotspur as he had fallen out of favour with the powers that be after making a big career decision without consulting the club and last represented the U18s five months ago.

No Group D Team Will Win 3 Games

Speaking to reporters at a press conference on Friday, March 16, Iceland coach Heimir Hallgrímsson has predicted that no team in Group D at the World Cup will win all their three group matches.
The Nordic country, who are set to appear in their first World Cup, will do battle with Argentina, Nigeria and Croatia.
''These are strong opponents, everyone knows. We are convinced that there will be no team in this group that wins all the games and there will be no team in this group losing all the games, " said Heimir.
"We think our potential is fine. If we have a good performance in Russia, we have a good chance of getting out of the group. ''
He added : ''Another advantage of a strong group is that if we get out of it, the next opponents who are waiting for us are no stronger than our team.
"The biggest challenge is to get out of the group, there's no point to stop us.''
To prepare Iceland for their World Cup fixture against Nigeria, the Football Association of Iceland have organized a friendly with Ghana on June 7, fifteen days before they tackle the Super Eagles in Volgograd.

Akpeyi fires back at critics, targets World Cup
Published February 23, 2018
Festus Abu

Super Eagles goalkeeper Daniel Akpeyi has said he is not bothered by any criticism but determined to push for his place in Nigeria coach Gernot Rohr ’ s 23 - man squad for the Russia 2018 World Cup .
The South Africa - based keeper has been the subject of intense criticism after his blunders against South Africa in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier – which Bafana Bafana won 2 - 0 in Uyo on June 10 – and in the friendly game against Argentina in Russia November 14 won 4 - 2 by Nigeria .
Reports claim Akpeyi ’ s World Cup place could be under threat after Rohr was impressed by Dele Ajiboye’ s performance at the 2018 African Nations Championship in Morocco .
Ajiboye made some brave saves to help Nigeria reach the CHAN final after coming on for first choice goalkeeper Ikechukwu Ezenwa, who was injured in the semifinal against Sudan .
Rohr is facing goalkeeping crisis with first choice keeper Carl Ikeme firmly out of the World Cup as he is undergoing treatment for acute leukaemia after being diagnosed with the illness in July.
Reports claim Akpeyi does not feature prominently in the German manager ’ s World Cup plans as he is said to be focusing on Ezenwa, Deportivo La Coruna keeper Francis Uzoho and Ajiboye for the World Cup .
However , Akpeyi , 31 , insists he has been working hard for a place in Rohr ’ s Russia 2018 squad , saying he is not discouraged by criticsm .
“I am not competing with any goalkeeper in the team, ” the Chippa United custodian was quoted by
scorenigeria . com as saying on Thursday .
“I am grateful to the coach for inviting me and also giving me an opportunity to play .
“ Nigeria have good keepers waiting for this opportunity ; if anyone deserves it let him play and let’ s support him so that we can have a formidable team for the World Cup and come back with a good result. ”
The former Warri Wolves keeper said he would not criticise any player in a bid to make the trip to Russia .
He said , “You don ’ t have talk me down with stories or lie against me on the pages of newspapers because you need to promote someone .
“ I didn ’ t come this far in my career by a mistake , even though I wasn ’ t given a chance to get here . But I was positive about myself and I worked hard for it and with God ’ s grace I reached the level I am today .
“ I haven ’ t reached my mark yet . Yes , I made some mistakes; some of the world ’ s best goalkeepers have made worst slip - ups , but they didn ’ t quit because they were criticised and condemned , they fought through it to become the best they are today . I will keep fighting . ”

SPORTS Why I love fanstastic Mikel Obi –Siasia
Published February 23, 2018

Former Super Eagles forward Samson Siasia has hailed Nigeria captain Mikel Obi labelling him a “ fantastic lad ” .
Siasia made the assertion when he spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria on Thursday .
He said , “ There is nothing special between me and Mikel ; it’ s only that I so much like him as a player. You can ’ t take it away from him that he is one of the greatest exports of Nigerian football.
“ Mikel started playing for top clubs at an early stage in his life and has won virtually everything he wants and above all, he is a good and committed player.
“ You can also see his contribution to the national team, so , who will not like such a player. He is a fantastic lad and always playing at the top .
“ If you have such a player in your team, then , you can have the support of others, to me he is a great export and an ambassador . ’’
The Tunisia ’ 94 Africa Cup of Nations winner , who represented Nigeria at the USA ’ 94 World Cup , said the China - based midfielder had done creditably well both at the club level and the national team.
Siasia selected Mikel for the Holland 2005 FIFA U20 World Cup where the former Chelsea star won the Silver Ball behind Lionel Messi . Argentina beat Nigeria 2 - 1 in the final at Galgenwaard Stadion , Utrecht . Messi scored the South Americans ’ goals while Chinedu Ogbuke scored for Nigeria .
UEFA Champions League (2012 ) and UEFA Europa League ( 2013 ) winner Mikel also helped Nigeria win bronze at the Rio 2016 Olympic Games with Siasia the coach of the team.
Mikel left Chelsea for Chinese Super League club Tianjin TEDA after the expiration of his contract in January 2017 .

Liverpool Striker Wants To Represent Nigeria At World Cup, Praises Everton's Onyekuru
Published: February 23, 2018

Liverpool striker Taiwo Awoniyi is keen to represent Nigeria at this summer's football festival in Russia, but has declared that he has not been contacted by the Nigerian Federation ahead of next month's friendly matches in Europe.
In addition, the former Golden Eaglets, Flying Eagles and Dream Team VI star admitted that Anderlecht were on his case before he was acquired by Liverpool in the summer of 2015.
''I heard that Anderlecht had already followed me in Nigeria, but I never received confirmation from them, I especially know Henry Onyekuru and I hope he will be fit again soon, he's a great player and very important for Nigeria,'' Awoniyi told La Capitale, according to Voetbal Belgie.
''I do not know if I will go to the World Cup, I do not know if the national team coach will call me for the upcoming friendly international matches.''
This season, Awoniyi has tallied seven goals with six assists in all competitions for Royal Excel Mouscron, his best return since his move to Europe.
The 20-year-old previously enjoyed loan spells at FSV Frankfurt and NEC.

Dele Aiyenugba still got it. I remember when I first watched him play, it was for Eyimba against Austin Ejide's Esperance or so in the CAF finals.. He had been brought on to replace Vincent Enyeama whom the coach knew was not good at penalty saves. Dele came in and did his thing saving 2 penalties that day, and Eyimba won the champions league...

He had been a third choice goal keeper after Enyeama and Ejide all along but I think his sojourn in the Israeli league made one forget him, as this made a spot for other local league goalies to be third choice, the likes of akpeyi, agbim and theophelius afelohki coming in.

having spent so much playing with Enyeama, I want to believe he is capable of offering something. though for him, unlike Enyeama, I fear his age factor might influence his efficiency. I hope his reflexes are still sharp because I didn't see any reflex save as such, this is something the young goalies would have in their kitty.

finally, what is the connection between these set of keepers plying their trade in Israel, I mean Enyeama to Ejide and Dele. Not until Enyeama left for France and at some point rumors of Wenger interest in him.

Nobody knows it all. Freedom must be given to all to state even nonsensical ideas. Yes! That's their privilege as human beings and no one has the right to stamp on their persons in the name of 'we must only make sensible statements backed with facts and figures(yes because there's a way a man's opinion or viewpoint is attacked and he feels it is himself that is being attacked). You are a science oriented guy. Isn't hypothesis an opinion? Some hypothesis are right, some are wrong. In the face of wrong opinions correction is what is needed. But to say that only correct
ideas are welcome here is to my mind setting up a creed which will make us attack with religious ferocity those who have ideas and opinions that seem incorrect to us
Are we going to have only white here and no black? Even a regime of sensible ideas backed with facts and figures is abhorrent to my soul.

Even if one cannot stomach 'nonsensical' opinions (mind you what is nonsensical to you might be sensible to another person just as it is often said that one man's rebel is another man's freedom fighter) then one can as well challenge it but how we challenge bollocks matters. It is not until a man is told 'wakaa' that he'd feel insulted

Iheanacho is not a god. I heartily support him. In fact I get pricked when he's criticised but I do not subscribe to our creating a gang mentality where everybody must have the same opinion. That is fundamentalism, that is totalitarianism, that is how terrorism begins. Even in the face of facts people are entitled to their opinions because interpretation of facts differ from person to person. Our fingerprints differ, our brain patterns differ, our voices differ. So also our views and opinions. Let's loosen our grip on the need to be right and be seen as right to the extent that we cannot tolerate other people's opinions.

And its not correct to say that those who queried Sir Icon4s' intervention are people who hate Nacho. I understand what Icon4s said but at the same time the undercurrent sounded like he was giving approval to the way liedetector was hounded.

We should not say welcome to people when we cannot welcome them in totality particularly since this is a faceless impersonal online forum. What sort of welcome is this: I welcome you but I do not welcome your absurd opinions. If there's no liberty for them to state their opinions whether backed by facts and figures or not how can we discuss, how can those with wrong ideas be corrected? Congo4ka is one weird guy but I like the way he was corrected yesterday. But you will note that others still said they liked him. That's how life is.

We've all been guilty of attacking each other here but I have soft spot for newcomers. They should be handled with more sensitivity. Only God knows the many number of persons who can richly contribute to this thread that we have chased away. Would it not be better if sometimes we ask people the reason for their 'absurd' opinions and try and engage them?

And even if an opinion is wrong it won't hurt if we endeavour to correct it with the patience and the wisdom of those 'who know'. Elyte89 reaction is typical. He doesn't hate Nacho. He hates the sacred opinions, viewpoints and facts surrounding Nacho and he's decided to desacralize those ideas and facts just to infuriate those who are intolerably Pro Nacho. In a sense elyte89 wants to save Nacho and free him from the consequences of dangerous love.

I should not be misinterpreted as saying that I approve absurd ideas. What I am saying is that we cannot dictate to people the ideas and opinions they should state. I state my own. That's my freedom. You are permitted to disagree, you are permitted to interrogate my opinions, to challenge them. You are even permitted to state your own contrary views. That's your freedom. Igbos have a beautiful proverb which underlies their republican nature: let the Eagle perch, let the vulture (note that the vulture is a clumsy, gruffy, ugly, absurd looking bird) also perch. The one that says taaaa to the other, let his wings be broken.

I am pro Nacho but anti - siege mentality. I will end by giving this short anecdote which ends with one of my favourite quotes: Jean Jacques Rousseau was writing dangerous books, espousing ideas that threatened government, the social order and many cultural norms in 17 century France. He was wanted by the government. All over France he was a wanted man. He had no where to run to. Finally he decided to run to Voltaire. Upon knocking the door Voltaire welcomed him with the following words which have become immortal: I do not approve of the things you say but I will defend to my death your right to say it.

Cheers and love to you all.

The power of hindsight.... wink

Well, I get you but sadly Shehu could not discern the future so he couldn't have known that Brahimi would come back to cause that penalty.
Funny thing is when the whistle went, Brahimi thought it was against him thus raising his hands slightly in frustration with that expression of "not again" on his face only to turn and find out the decision was for him and was a penalty. Even he was not convinced about the penalty call... But who bloody cares? He just stepped up and buried it. grin

Hope we learn from that going into the mundial.
yes boss, hope we learn from such instance like that. I believe our style of play would frustrate many teams, this is because of our tireless marking and runnings. this should make opponent who are not having a good day commit several fouls like that of Brahimi. we just need to take advantage of such.

Not only Mikel. Several players should have raised alarm immediately. Someone like Lehmann would have run out from his post.

Look at the reaction of Fabregas and Gallas when Ramsey got injured. The outrage alone was enough for the red card.

The 2014 team lacked that kind of character.

See the way, Balogun wanted to break one Algerian head in the second leg. You need characters like that in a team.
just the same way shehu could have rushed to the ground after the Algerian Brahimi head-butted him, his inexperienced instinct was to rush back at Brahimi... should he have gone down rolling on the floor, the penalty Brahimi created and scored with shehu again being the culprit could have been averted.

if it is actually our jersey, then it is fresh for me.

this looks like it would generate much sales especially for Nike...

the naija or Nigeria debate, I hear it has even been an issue at the national assembly on how to address "Nigeria" it was concluded that we are to be called Nigeria and not Naija...but who asked them, na dat one we send dem go do.
I know there is huge probability the "Naija" is removed, but however I prefer the naija thing for me.

today they hammered us 26 shots scoring four times..this is not a way to end a tournament. this is something we will have to take home!!
