Bros, pardon my ignorance, but you are still confusing me. This video still didn't clarify things. Yes, I agree you do not have ECT 2 and I already mentioned that 03-04 have fan switch and not ECT on the radiator. But my question is very simple, do you have anything on your radiator? If yes, what is it?
Bola4boy: Also, my car no get catalyst. Should I get the spacer or buy China catalyst.? My fuel consumption is about 4km per liter for city drive. Sometimes less than that
Conner44: Okay good. Now I know why my own fan switch never threw any code when it's wires were cut off by an overzealous mechanic before.
So if I had the ect2 sensor I would have had a check engine light?
Exactly. If your car is 03-04, you will not have a code. But if it's 05-07, you will get a code. Those kazeems are fond of cutting that wire to short them to make the fan permanently on.
Cryomancer: Abeg how do you guys measure this fuel consumption and MPG whatever??
I'm terrible at mathematics, maybe that's where my problem is even coming from. Because the last time I checked, you have to calculate Trip A and B whatever whatever, omo na so I just run oo. I use my weekly usage to calculate my fuel consumption now🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I've explained this here on nairaland before. Fill up your tank to the brim and reset your trip counter. Drive the car till your fuel is about to finish and not how many miles you have driven. Fill it up again and note how many litres it took to fill up to the brim the second. This will give you how many MILES you drove with that amount of fuel. Dividing the miles with the litres of fuel gives you how many miles you drove with each litre. Most trip counters are in miles and not kilometers. So be sure what you have. If yours is in kilometers, you will have how many kilometers you drove per liter. If this calculation is too much for you, just drop the numbers and we will do the calculation for you.
Conner44: It's like he is no longer interested in educating us.
Well, his lack of an explanation concerning this issue points to either of the below 2 options
1. He has no thermostat in his engine
2. He has a thermostat but his cooling fans run directly via ignition
I see no other reason why he reacted the way he did apart from the options above (which are normal in nigeria today by the way)
Oh well, maybe some other time he will indulge us. For now let me be happy I have found out the differences in those 2 switches which are mounted on the exact spot in all 2003 - 2007 4cyl honda accord vehicles
Macmilla thanks for sharing 👍🏾
Yes, they are mounted on the exact same spot. But if you noticed from the picture I posted, their thread size is not the same. What that means is that a radiator that came with a fan switch (2003-2004 radiator) can NOT accept an ECT switch cos it won't fit. So it will not work on 05-07. Their plugs are also not compatible The radiator meant for ECT sensor (05-07) will also not take a fan switch. So it will not work for 03-04. I learnt this the hard way. While the v6 radiator doesn't have anything at all.
A lot of kazeems do not know this. So sometimes they buy v6 radiator for i4 and end up not connected the ECT wire. Or they buy the radiator with fan switch for a car that needs ECT. And when the connection doesn't fit, they just hide the wire away and tell you "it doesn't do anything.
Macmilla: No. ECT sensor and fan switch are not the same. They don't even look alike. And they do different jobs.
Fan switch is an on-off switch. It just closes a circuit at a particular temperature, thereby switching on the fan at that particular temperature. In cars that have fan switch, the brain box does not receive input from the switch and the brain box does not control the fan.
ECT sensor is exactly what it is called, a sensor. It senses the temperature of the coolant in the radiator and sends the information to the ECU. The ECU uses this information to determine the status of the engine and then know when to turn on or off the fan.
I hope this is clear.
If you short the two wires going to the FAN SWITCH, your fan will be on permanently and your ecu won't even notice until something else goes wrong. But any short on the wires to the ECT sensor will throw a code instantly.
The ECT 2 SENSOR and FAN SWITCH are one and the same part.
Please keep this in mind as our discussion progresses 👍🏾
I'm still waiting for the location of your own fan switch.
No. ECT sensor and fan switch are not the same. They don't even look alike. And they do different jobs.

jceesquare: From experience working on 7th gen Accord (especially the ones without MAF) that downstream oxygen sensor does more than emission job and also contributes in the fuel trim. Do you want video evidence for this as well?
Please do well to show us the video where it was explained. I want to learn.
jceesquare: I will indulge you this once. Pic 1 is a 2003 Honda Accord with a V6 engine and without an ECT 2 sensor on the radiator. Pic 2 is a 2003 Honda accord with an i4 engine and with the ECT 2 sensor on the radiator. Pic 3 is also another 2003 Honda Accord with an i4 engine and without an ECT 2 sensor on the radiator. Those cars came that way and and not modified in anyway as confirmed from a live data stream. The fact that you've not seen it does not mean it does not exist. Get your fact right and stop misleading the public. Abi you go argue say not all of them comes with a MAF sensor as well?
Bros be calming down. All 7the gen accord with v6 engine do not have any sensor on the radiator. Both ECtlT sensor 1 and 2 are on the engine. (Picture 1) All 7the gen accord with i4 engine has either Fan switch (04-05) or ECT sensor 2 (05-06) on the radiator. (Picture 2) If your i4 7th gen has nothing on the radiator, then it is either Honda is hiding something or you need to know your car better. If your car is actually a i4 with nothing on the radiator, then educate us (with evidence) on how the car is controlling the fan.
jceesquare: Change your downstream oxygen sensor and get the ECT 2 connected. The downstream oxygen sensor for your car does more than just monitoring the oxygen level in the exhaust.
Please can you tell us what else the secondary (downstream) HO2 sensor does. Evidence will be appreciated. In all the research I've done on Honda, all evidence point to the sec HO2 sensor being purely for emissions control. It monitors the efficiency of the catalytic converter and nothing more. The primary (upstream) HO2 sensor, more appropriately called Air fuel ratio sensor, is what actually monitors and adjust air-fuel mixture in the engine. Please if you have a contrary opinion, give us your source, so we see for ourselves. ...
jceesquare: Your car has been abused electrically, get a competent rewire to look at it. Also get another radiator for your car that comes with the space for a secondary ECT and get it connected.
Tiliphoto123: My Honda DC battery runs down overnight and refused to start next morning. but if I remove the terminal head it will start the next morning and works well throughout.
Pls what is causing this and what's the solution?
Presently I remove the terminal head every night and the battery works fine.
remi4ever: Hello guys. My car runs fine, no check engine light.
But sometime I ago I noticed that the car vibrates during reverse so after cleaning the throttle body it runs well now, the issue was caused by the pipe in the image below spitting small dirty oil into the air flow box, so i had to remove it and cover it with a paper temporarily, is this safe?
When will Nigerians learn that any manipulation on a car that stops it working the way it was meant to work is just a destroying the car. When will you learn this. Please find out what is wrong with your car and fix it. Stop cutting corners.
Cryomancer: Acura is more sophisticated in terms of performance, build, components. However this comes with a deep pocket for maintenance and the fact that TSX isn't really too noticeable on the Nigerian roads, the parts are mostly available especially in Lagos but the parts are definitely not scarce.
Civic in the other hand is a mid and common car with parts readily available anywhere you are, it can be described as the Corolla of Honda because of its fuel economy.
Depends on what you look out for in vehicles, if you love performance, balance and aesthetics, then go for the Acura. But if you just need a car to move you from point A to point B, then go for the Civic.
If you decide to settle for Acura, try to get the 2010/2011 version. I advise later years of a new product because most times, new designs of cars released in the first year are prone to recalls for few corrections, and these corrections are always perfected in the later years of production for same vehicles.
In all of this, if you don't have a good maintenance culture and attention to details, please stay away from Honda/Acura vehicles because it will m3ss you up and you might end up joining the group of people who say "Honda vehicles are not reliable"
The 2009/10 Acura TSX V6 with the technology package
Or
2009 Honda civic.
Which of them is a good buy?
These are completely different cars. I don't understand the confusion. Do you want luxury, comfort, speed and finesse? Or do you want fuel economy, and low maintenance cost?
Bola4boy: The radiator has a sensor called ect sensor 2. Macmillia will understand me cos he has encountered same issue. Just that I don't have the expertise to do what he did to resolve the issue that's why I'm thinking of just getting a new radiator with the follow come sensor.
Another issue I have is the unstable rpm I experience. But once i detach the cold start sensor, the rpm will stabilize. I don't know if anyone has encountered such issue before
Please what exactly are you calling "cold start sensor". I'm very sure there's nothing with such name on Honda.
jceesquare: Not all Accord of that generation comes with the ECT 2 sensor. I also have a 7th gen Accord without the ECT 2 sensor. If yours comes with it, then I'd suggest you get a radiator that's compatible with it as that sensor helps with regulating your fans speed. For the cold start, I assume you're referring to the ECT 1. Scan the car for possible code related to it or test the resistance of the sensor with a multimeter.
2003 and 2004 Honda Accord has a fan switch on the radiator. 2005 - 2007 has an ECT sensor on the radiator. If yours does not have ECT sensor, then it must be 2003 or 2004, or kazeem has made love to your car.
Bola4boy: I'm putting every effort to reduce the fuel consumption in my 2005 eod. 1) my radiator isn't follow come so it has no ect sensor 2. ( pls should I just change the radiator or I work in the sensor? ) 2) I'm at crossroads in-between getting a China catalyst or getter a spacer. ( pls which one is better as per consumption? )
Without a functional ECT sensor on your 2005 accord, your car is literally slowly dying. Please do everything you can to get it fixed, even if it means replacing the radiator with the correct one. Your ecu uses the information from the ECT to make adjustments to the running of the engine. There's something called closed loop and open loop. Your car will permanently be on open loop, which means dumping fuel in ur engine.
Your current radiator should have fan switch in place of the ECT. The problem is that the ECT will not fit into the hole for the fan switch. So it is either you replace the whole radiator, or you find a way to convert the thread hole for the fan switch to fit the ECT. I had same problem a while ago and I actually converted the thread. I won't advice you to do what I did cos I can only trust myself to do such work well since a leaking radiator is equally a death sentence for your engine. Just replace your radiator ASAP for peace of mind.
Instead of arguing, let's talk about catalyt8c converter. - What is catalytic converter? - functions and benefits - does it conserve fuel? - can you drive without it with no consequences? - Is there any benefits to decat your car? - what is the best way to decat and avoid check light? - Is decatting allowed in Nigeria?
Let us argue/discuss this till someone with an actual issue comes.
Cryomancer: This page is dedicated to Honda enthusiasts around Nigeria to create a community where solutions and ideas can be shared based on over the years experience of using an Honda vehicle.
As at date, I'm aware of the Volvo and Lexus community here on nairaland which has also metamorphosed into a bigger and more interactive community on Whatsapp which I was once part of. It would be a great idea if same can be replicated for Honda users as well.
The floor is open to both current users and intending users of Honda to rob minds and also educate people about the amazing machine we are opportuned to own.
Welcome.
Luvinhubby Jceesquare Macmilla
Thanks I'm ready to offer my little knowledge to whoever needs it.
Cryomancer: For the AUX, just get the picture below from AliExpress, you won't regret it. I installed it on my EOD and it gives me the perfect and clear sound quality, better than those rubbish plug and play Bluetooth that works with radio frequency.
kelvinmnet: I asked based on your statement on this line: After replacing the ATF twice without much improvement, I decided to rebuild it. Why would I throw something away without first trying to fix it? That is not me. Call me cheap, I don't care. After putting the tranny back in the car and filling with oil, first start, tranny no gree shift. Second start, car no gree enter drive. I was already sweating from my nyash. Infact, almost the whole day, tranny was severely acting up. But by some magic, after several tests, tranny started behaving. Now, 3mths later, tranny is still as smooth as butter. Victory!
But I'm not the one that did the actual rebuild. I gave it to a professional in that field and paid him for parts and services. I didn't go asking him the names of what he changed.
nurd: I followed you. I have always wanted to be hands on with cars and learn their in and out through trials and creativity and I find your profile fit the best personality that can guide me. Thanks so much for your contributions.
kelvinmnet: Nice write up. I use same car, 2007 accord with navigation but its totally useless just like u said. I would like to set up the reverse camera and the aux if possible. can you help?
I eventually installed a Bluetooth device that also worked so well. So I didn't have need for aux.
noobody: WXL on the beat again ooo, what a sad update!!
Please what is with the wxl? After 12days in custom clearance, now I have this wxl. Please what exactly does it entail? From your comment, it doesn't sound good.
Macmilla: Mine have been on custom clearance since 19th August. That's 10days now on custom clearance. It's just annoying, but patience is all we can have for now.
For the past 7 days. And I already received others that came to Nigeria together
Mine have been on custom clearance since 19th August. That's 10days now on custom clearance. It's just annoying, but patience is all we can have for now.
