OakPearl:
Groupon stock capitulated to $0.55 per share in March 2016 due to various reasons chief of which is poor performance without earning profit in the last two years.
If it continued to trade at that penny stock range of less than $1/share, the company stood the risk of being delisted from the NASDAQ.

The available option to avoid being delisted is the revers stock split which they have implemented. Reverse stock split of this nature simply means a stock that was selling for $1.00 per share will suddenly be selling for $20.00/share. There typically is no difference to the existing holders because their shares are split into 1 for every 20 shares held (If you had 20 shares, it will be replaced with 1 share only).

This was the case with Aurora Cannabis ACB before it rallied a while this year.

My advise?
Do not venture into Groupon now as they are not expected to be profitable in the next few years unless there is a news of takeover.
Great answer

Please can someone explain what's happening with groupon?

Groupon, Inc. (NASDAQ: GRPN) ("Groupon" or the "Company"wink announced today that the Company’s board of directors has approved a reverse stock split of the Company’s common stock at a ratio of 1-for-20, following approval of the reverse stock split by the Company’s stockholders at the Annual Meeting of Stockholders held on June 9, 2020.

The reverse stock split will become effective at 5:00 p.m. Eastern time on June 10, 2020. At the effective time, every 20 issued and outstanding shares of the Company’s common stock will be converted and combined into one share of the Company’s common stock, and a proportionate reduction will be made to the Company’s number of authorized shares of common stock.

Beginning with the opening of trading on June 11, 2020, the Company’s common stock will trade on the Nasdaq Global Select Market on a split-adjusted basis under a new CUSIP number, 399473206. The Company’s trading symbol will continue to be "GRPN."

The reverse stock split affects all stockholders uniformly and will not alter any stockholder’s percentage interest in the Company’s common stock, except for adjustments that may result from the treatment of fractional shares as described below.

No fractional shares will be issued as a result of the reverse stock split. Instead, the Company’s transfer agent will aggregate all fractional shares and sell them as soon as practicable after the effective time of the reverse stock split at the then-prevailing prices on the open market. Stockholders who would have been entitled to a fractional share as a result of the reverse stock split will receive a cash payment from the transfer agent in an amount equal to their respective pro rata share of the total proceeds of such sale

yes you're right......definitely not a rocket science......just need research time and staying informed....................
I'm glad i took the risk

Damn, look at that. Over 40% in just how long? That's no small feat and living proof you don't have to be an MBA degree holder to grow your money. I give you all the credit boss, you took a big leap and its paying off, congrats.
Honestly I love when people post their gains no matter how big or small, it will encourage many folks that have been on the sidelines. As Nigerians we can be suspicious at times but once we see more people reporting positive feedback, it encourages us to take a chance. Before I started, I used to have my bank invest low risk mutual funds and bonds, every year I will male like 4% and the bank will still keep 1%. But then a co worker of mine advised me to invest my money myself and it was around the same time I stumbled upon another nairaland thread about US stocks. It's really not rocket science, everyone can grow their money in stocks.
Congrats once more!!

Just an update to this thread and a big thank you to @saydfact for the wonderful estimation

So from your estimate, I realized it will cost around #3M - 3.5M for the 10 courses.... then I decided to kickstart it with #1M and see how far they will go with that as I'm not in the country at the moment....

So the job has been done and they were able to deliver 4 courses...this include #70k for digging and a few other settlements here and there....totalling around #50k....I believe another #1M will deliver 5 if not 6 courses as foundation wont be involved anymore.

Its single gated.....wider than a regular one,as we want to keep enough entrance for trucks when construction begins

Take note the person in charge is using direct labour and cutting the cost as he's experienced in this field.

@Saydfact, Do u think he had delivered enough with the first #1M? Because our estimation was 3k blocks but not sure if this is upto that.

Thanks for your time brother

Cheers

I have to throw my hat for the men here.....you guys are the real deal @ @oakpearl, Yeryer and many others...unfortunately many youth come on this forum just to abuse and gossip.....why some are making real cash ....

The word stock alone scares me....but this thread build my confident....been following quietly for some time now, although with my other moniker....

I usually invest in real estate, mutual funds and ETF...

After following this thread for nearly a month, I decided to do some trial and error.. learning from my mistakes with my hard cash...

But so far , in 3 weeks, I have turned $15k into $21k.....some days are red but the land is mostly green.

I think this thread will be my new tv ahahah.....it feels so good to watch ur money grow like grass....

I use Yahoo finance, fool.com and investors place for guidance and information......I dont know much but I always read their conversations instead of boring myself with too much.

Thank u guys

I did similar in Omi Adio but don’t have figured handy here. I know it was eye popping, for me.

To cut cost I only did one entry for now but the property is in a corner lot so another gate on the other street will be built in the future.

My advice is to do two gates eventually if not for anything but safety. Yuh don’t have to use the entry all the time.

Good luck.
great. .yea since its temporary, I'm gonna go with one big gate for now, then maybe another one in future....yea its eye popping.....not a tiny project

Thanks for your comment bro.

Can you get the coordinate of the land...
Use Google Map.

If it's not under government acquisition, family receipt MIGHT be enough for now.

If it's under acquistio then you'll need that Cof O and Governor's concert...

With the coordinate I might help you if it's acquired by government or free... I no promise but I shd be able
I dont think it's under government acquisition because the person in charge knows a alot about land and he's my dad.

I dont even know the address....I'm not around at the moment....but you've been very helpful brotherly....

Thanks also for the opportunity.

REMEMBER... if you decide to dig the foundation using 450mm ie 0.45m wide, just replace 0.675m with 0.45m in the equation to get a reduced quantity of cement needed. (ditto if its 600mm wide = 0.60m etc)

Also, if you're using 100mm (ie 0.10m) thick foundation, then replace 0.15m with 0.10m and the actual cement needed would reduce also.

Sand and granite need not change, since its a Bulk purchase.

Keep me updated, I'm always available.
Yes I will, but my confusion now is that, after going through a few thread I realised I may have to do more documentation ....because the person in charge only got a family receipt from the owner of the land......now I'm wondering if it's better to get C of O and any necessary documents before Investing such amounts on fencing....I'm new to real estate....so pardon my ignorance.

Morning.

It is always important to attach a sketch and dimensions of the plot.

See attached picture.

Plus, I assumed the plot to be 18x36. Everything changes if its 15x30.

Send a sketch and dimensions.

Note: the two arrangements gives different linear meters 252m and 288m, this means arrangement of plot affects price a lot. The difference is much.

Goodluck
thanks I have just confirmed the dimension.....its the first one in your diagram and its 18x36.

This is an amazing thread.....

Pls can anyone help with a rough estimate for fencing a 6 plots of land close to Abeokuta Ogun state....I'm considering 10 coaches including foundation
It's a flat and dry land. Estimation would include granite for any stone related job needed for the job if any.

Also, which is advisable between single and double gated fencing, considering the size of the land.

P.s I dont have any major plan for the land at the moment. But I want the fencing done asap after lockdown.

Thanks in advance

Most painful words said to me 11 years ago still echoes till today.
It was in a JAMB tutorial class, my closest friend said to me in public "ko ri tajé shè" meaning " I was so destitute ". Then I only had 2 trousers and a few shirts to go through the week.

But God listened and wiped my tears.....before the end of that year my story changed, he would beg for money whenever he visits.

11 yrs on, I've bought atleast 4 cars with my own money, and I've made millions while he's still worth less than 100k.

I bet he's forgotten..... but I will never forget.... what he said didn't affect our friendship till today.

Make peace with all men and Let God fight your battle .

I don't know if this counts as betrayal. Our first born knew there was a guy I really like and the guy was stylishly making passes at me but never went straight to the point.

That was when In 100 level. When I was I was in 2oo level my got the news that my sister was going to get married to the guy.

At a point I stylishly told my mum my sister was getting married to my boyfriend but no one said anything. It broke me and I am still angry whenever I see my sister with him. They even have kids now. It really changed my acts towards my family sha. Maybe someday I will heal
well, I don't think u were in a relationship with the guy as he never really asked u out.....it would have been a betrayal if he had left u to marry ur sister after you've established a relationship with him.

Hello OP.

Don't let a single indiscretion from your dad make you forget he has consistently cared for you since your were a kid.

Like someone said, call him up. And talk it out with him.

And if you have strong mind, tell him you still trust him and send him another money to build the fence. That's after you have found a way to conform the land is truly yours

Secondly, family can feel entitled to your wealth. It's wrong, but it doesn't make them bad.

Just be careful. Be stingy sometimes. And manage your family expectations from you

Life is people. Don't throw away the relationship with your father because of a one off incident.

Remember, he trained you right from birth. That counts for something
thanks for that ... that stingy is the key word now....

I don't even now how to comfort you. It must be painful. The part that pains me more is the fact that a father's pride or entitlement mentality won't let him apologize to his son.

Sometimes elderly/older people think it is ok to use age to bully their kids or younger ones. It is very wrong. We should not use culture or respect to cover what is not right.
how I wish some of those parents could see how kids in Western countries don't give a f***k about their parents once they move out....also see how they dump them at the Nursing homes once they aged.... only then will they appreciate what they have.

FamilyEver Been Betrayed By A Close Family Member? How Did You Get Over It. by Madisonsqua(op): 1:46pm On Jan 12, 2020
Please pardon the epistle, I'm a family guy who put my family first in all my decisions due to my upbringing and position in the family....my father single handedly provided and trained the 4 of us through school as my mum never had a job due to recurring illness......I moved overseas few years ago and settling down wasn't easy. But one thing my father kept telling me even before I got my first job was to invest back home.....after paying up all the loans I incurred from funding my travel, I saved hard and invested all my savings in a few plots of land running into millions. To secure the land I was advised to do the fencing just to mark my territory as Im not ready to develop it yet.

I respect and love my immediate family so much that I can't go a week without talking or skyping them. Dad is a senior pastor in one of the Pentecostal churches that preaches holiness and righteousness which was the basis of my trusting him....but he completely betrayed my trust when I sent some money to commence the fencing....

P.s I've not been selfish to my family. I spent close to a million on gift and their welfare that same year...and even promised to get them a car as soon as I can afford it...

Instead of commencing the project, he decided to spend the money on a car just because he couldn't wait. The worst part of it was that he warned my 3 younger siblings not to tell me about it until he's able to get back the money. Which they knew might never happen....But I got to know from an outsider after 6 months.

Whenever I asked my dad about the project, his excuse had always been the rain stopping them from commencing, not knowing the money was gone. When I confronted my siblings, they confessed he had warned them not to tell me. Then I confronted my mom who later confessed and apologized....till today my father hasn't call to explain anything to me. Instead he chose to be mad at his wife for confessing to it and even raised his voice when I questioned him.

Since that incident few months ago, the relationship between us has gone so cold and we barely talk anymore....he hardly call and I don't call him either....I had forgiven him but I can't forget. I'm so discouraged now that I don't see myself sending any more money in the nearest future. I don't even care about the land safety anymore...this is affecting me mentally, I wish to just let go but I can't....I feel taken advantage of by someone I trusted the most in this world.

Please for those who had been in this situation before what would u advise.......I feel like the strong and priceless connection I had with my parent is gone due to one person's decision.

Ok listen @Oyinyechiakata, I don’t know if u are the lady in question or not. But if u are, I will love to clear something for u and your lover. I don’t know u or your lover but I was once in his shoe. But now happily married to my partner for some years now.

Firstly this is a faceless forum and I will advise you to be a little bit more respectful of people’s opinions, either ‘good’ or ‘bad’ , not take critics too seriously and also generally direct your anger towards your lover if u have to do so.

People here don’t take side as u can see some have showed so much concern about you and even questioned his love for you. The question of if it’s ‘true’ or ‘not’ is between the two of you.

When it comes to making life decisions, people generally have worries and concerns. Some deal with this all by themselves while some seek for public opinions.

His concerns were more of money, life and migration. Ain’t saying this is right, but has bitter as this may sound, every intending migrant will ask about these three things before uprooting their own life for anyone. It’s not unusual for people in developed countries to quickly see themselves as the victims. So I will advise you stay calm for now.

think about it this way. he knows you are not rich but you are doing everything you could to have a better future. Which is the best thing and I must commend you for that.
In the course of this, you’ve incurred some personal debt and you still planning to have more. A potential partner is not wrong for having concerns about it. If anything, it shows he’s not planning to dump you so fast and he’s concerned that once you’re married, your problem becomes his. Which is generally true because you will end up sharing bills and other household expenses. And if u can’t afford a lot due to your repayment then he has to step up for you.

Nigerians are not so exposed to living on debt as we do in developed countries and our orientation about debt is completely different. Nigerians grow up being told to stay away from debts and we have no government or institutions financial support.
When I migrated myself, I will get mad at my partner for acquiring new loans or credit cards. I thought her about finances and how to live on a budget (not the easiest job anyway). But you know what? 2 years later I realised having debt is even a good thing for myself if I wanna go far in this countries. As long as they’re for the right reasons.

My Orientation changed even though I was still very careful with my finances. All over the world, Nigerians are making history and working their ass off to have a better life. Your partner is planning to migrate and also work his ass off but he’s concerned if he would be responsible for your loan. That’s for you to know he’s inexperience about how things works out there.

The same way your family is concerned about you falling in love with a scammer, he is also concerned about being used considering the news we’ve been told as African growing up that our men have been used and abused by foreign women just the same way some people around you think all Nigerians are scammers.

I’m not encouraging you to continue or end your relationship, but just telling you’ve got heaps to learn about each other if you truely wanna be together.
