Konquest:
Onnoghen: My life is under threat, says ex-Buhari aide, Dennis Aghanya
Published January 19, 2019

The Executive Secretary, Anti-Corruption and Research- Based Data Initiative, Dennis Aghanya, has raised the alarm over threats to his life following his petition against Onnoghen for failing to declare five bank accounts with about $3m.

The former media aide to President Muhammadu Buhari told Saturday PUNCH on Friday that a number of people have asked him to disown the petition against the CJN for a huge amount of money.

He said those behind the threats were “the people who are telling Nigerians that the petition does not have merit.”

He declined to identify the people making the threats.

Aghanya said, “Since this petition came to light, they have been sending friends and families to me and at the same time issuing threats. They are giving me two options: If I don’t accept, I would go down six feet. If I mention the amount they are offering, it is something a hungry man would accept, something they cannot resist, big money, as much as a billion naira.”

According to the activist, those faulting his action should instead encourage the CJN to defend himself at the Code of Conduct Tribunal.

He stated that the Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, did the right thing by ensuring the prosecution of Onnoghen for concealing five domiciliary accounts in Standard Chartered Bank.

He dismissed arguments that the petition did not follow due process, noting that Nigerians should be concerned with the facts and evidences presented on the case “instead of leaving substance to chase shadow.”

Aghanya again denied that the petition against Onnoghen was politically-motivated, noting that many other investigations were also being carried out by ARDI against other government officials whom he declined to identify.

When asked if he feared for his life, Aghanya said, “I’m human, but then, it is God that gives life. Because I am a good Christian, I don’t feel bothered. If I were to be killed, do you know the kind of enemies I have had to contend with since I was born? The enemies would come, they would rise, do all sorts of things, but if God is with you, all those things would be in vain.”

Photo- Juan Guaidó, Venezuela’s second President
The United States has taken an almost unprecedented step of officially declaring its support of an opposition candidate in Venezuela, following 35-year-old Juan Guaido’s public announcement that he is now the interim president.
The BBC reports that a number of South American nations, “including Brazil, Colombia and Peru, have also recognised Mr Guaido as Venezuela’s legitimate president”.
In a televised statement, US Vice President Mike Pence called on Venezuelan citizens to “make your voices heard” against President Nicolas Maduro, whom he called a “dictator with no legitimate claim to power,” Bloomberg says.
“The announcement came as thousands of Guaido backers took to the streets in a revitalized effort against Maduro, whose military response to the widespread demonstrations seemed more measured than in the past,” says CNN.
The BBC reports that under Manduro, “hyperinflation, power cuts and shortages of basic items have driven millions of people out of Venezuela”.
Maduro was sworn in for a second term earlier this month. However the election was marred by a boycott from opposition parties and widespread claims of vote rigging.
Maduro responded to the US calls to back Guaido by giving the US and its diplomatic staff 72 hours to leave the country. (Credit)

PoliticsRe: Army Inaugurates 63 Brigade, Flags Off Operation Python Dance In Asaba by madmohamed(m): 4:01pm On Jan 10, 2019
Osagyefo98:
The Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai, a lieutenant general, on Thursday inaugurated the 63 Brigade Nigerian Army and flaged-off operation Egwu Eke (Python Dance), in Asaba, Delta.
Mr Buratai, represented by Jamil Sarham, a major general and General Officer Commanding (GOC), 6 Division, said the brigade would ensure peace, security and promote commerce in Asaba and its environs.
“It is my great pleasure to inaugurate the 63 Brigade with its headquarters in Asaba, this is a demonstration of President Muhammadu Buhari’s desire to ensure security of lives and property across the country,” he said.
He said the essence was to checkmate the myriad of security challenges in the country.
He said the establishment of military formations required huge financial commitment, adding that while the various governments made provisions, other stakeholders would be required to support the project to ensure adequate security.
“I therefore call on the government and the good people of Delta to support the operations of the 63 brigade and the formations in Koko and Oleh.
“I am also in Delta to flag off the operation Egwu Eke 3 (Python Dance), at Km 11, Okpanam Road, Asaba,” he said.
Mr Buratai assured all law abiding people of the state that the Army would ensure adequate security and safety even as the nation approaches the 2019 general elections.
He said the Army would work in cooperation with other security agencies to ensure peace in the state.
The army chief said at the end of the python dance exercise,” the python must have swallowed all the hoodlums, bandits, kidnappers and militants among others in the country.
“The python will also address the issues of fake news by unpatriotic elements; it is necessary that we draw the attention of all well-meaning Nigerians that they must have at the back of their minds the importance of national security.
“Giving out official information or spreading fake news is inimical to national security.”
In his remarks, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa appreciated the Army for bringing the brigade to Asaba.

In his remarks, Governor Ifeanyi Okowa appreciated the Army for bringing the brigade to Asaba.

“We have just witnessed the inauguration of the 63 Brigade, Asaba and we give God all the glory and I want to appreciate the Chief of Army Staff for enabling this and thank the President for bringing it to Asaba.
“I am aware that the military, working with all other security agencies in the state, have done quite a lot to ensure peace.
“I also know that a lot have been done to secure our oil facilities in the state and in all, I appreciate our traditional rulers, the youths and various groups that have ensured that we have adequate information to ensure peace in our state.
“There is no doubt that with the 63 brigade being given birth to today, we will now have many more men to provide security in the state.
“We are a peaceful state, but criminals still abound just like they are in every part of nation.
“I believe that with combined efforts, all our security agencies will continue to maintain a peaceful disposition,” Mr Okowa said.
The governor assured that the state government would support and ensure the full take off of the brigade within the limits of its finances.
Earlier, the acting Brigade Commander, M.H.B. Manu in a welcome address, said that the command was committed to providing adequate security in Asaba.
He thanked the state government for providing the temporary headquarters for the 63 brigade and requested for more support to secure permanent site for the brigade and the battalions in Koko and Oleh.
He called on the people of the state to support the brigade and all its formations in the state, and reiterated that its establishment by the federal government was to guarantee the protection of lives and property.
The Asagba of Asaba, Chike Edozien, represented by Patrick Ndili, also lauded the establishment of the brigade.

PoliticsRe: Buhari Has Done Well For South East, South South–gov Obiano by madmohamed(m): 7:04am On Jan 10, 2019
lilian789:
South-East and South-South - The Anambra State Governor, Willie Obiano, has commended President Muhammadu Buhari for the progress of work on the construction of the second Niger Bridge.

He said the President had done well for the South-East and South-South geopolitical zones.

Obiano stated this during an inspection visit of the project in Onitsha, Anambra State.

He expressed satisfaction with the standard and pace of work on the project.

The governor said he was confident that the Federal Government under President Muhammadu Buhari would deliver on the job as scheduled.

He noted that the bridge, when completed, would not only boost the economic activities of the South-East and South-South but that of the country at large.

Obiano said, “I have no choice but to praise President Muhammadu Buhari for his determination in the implementation of other Federal Government’s projects in the state and other states in the geopolitical zone.”

Speaking, the Project Director of Julius Berger Construction Company,  Fredrick Wieser, said the construction would be in three phases, adding that the Federal Government had made an advance payment of N30bn as mobilization fee.

According to him, the bridge will be 1.6 km long, while the access road from the Asaba axis will be 3.3 km and 7km from Anambra respectively.

Wieser said, “Right now, we are doing the foundation work in the river which will be 50 meters deep. The pilling work in the river will be 15 meters above the water level to allow free flow of ships. With the determination of the present administration, the project will be delivered on or before February 28, 2022.”  South-East and South-South Enjoy!

Yoruba people say Ai si nile ologbo, ile di ile ekute.

Ipob left town soon as they spotted Python at Onitsha bridgehead.

In their absense see as MASSOB don become megida dey flex muscle.

Chineke God!

The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra, MASSOB, has said whether President Muhammadu Buhari wins or loses, an Igbo man would not be allowed to produce the next president of Nigeria in 2023.

MASSOB leader, Uche Madu, in a statement yesterday, also lashed out at the Secretary to the Federal Government of Nigeria, SGF, Boss Mustapha for saying that the only option for Igbo to have a shot at the presidency was to support President Muhammadu Buhari for re-election in next month’s elections.

Mustapha, had after a meeting involving Southeast governors, the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, and President Muhammadu Buhari advised the region to support Buhari to return to power in order to fulfill his plan for the Southeast.

He also said the Igbos could achieve 2023 presidency if they give Buhari total support in 2019.

The SGF’s advice sparked fresh controversies when Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo made a similar appeal and promise to the Southwest region.

Joining the discourse, the leader of MASSOB, Uchenna Madu, said: “The SGF should stop deceiving himself. Even if Buhari wins or loses, the Igbo man will not be president of Nigeria.”

He also condemned the visit of the South-East Governors’ Forum to President Buhari.

His words: “How can they visit Buhari and start thanking him and appreciating him for second Niger bridge? That is the only infrastructure Buhari has undertaken in the South-East zone.

“Buhari has done wonderfully well in the South-West and the North, have they visited Buhari to thank him for what he has done? This is because they believe it is their right that the president must develop their land. Why is it that our governors are making themselves so cheap?

“So, MASSOB, condemns Governor Dave Umahi, in particular. We condemn his cheap presentation. He should stop speaking for Ndigbo. Why would he say he is thanking Buhari for second Niger bridge? Rubbish!

“Has Umahi condemned the Operation Python Dance in the South-East zone? They have come again with Operation Python Dance, they are here to mesmerize and intimidate our people coming back for the Christmas.

“They are here to instil fear in our people who are coming back for Christmas. Umahi is supposed to condemn Buhari for Operation Python Dance 3 and not thanking him for second Niger bridge, what is second Niger bridge? As a matter of fact, from now to next few years, there will be no second Niger bridge.”
