I keep wondering what could have led to NwaAmaikpe been ban this long...not surprising, NL mods keep acting like demigods and Seun on his own part is not even helping matters. I'd suggest you guys tell yourselves the truth and stop these sortings on this great platform. Good morning guys I agree with you on the strong reliability of nairaland’s news and post as far back as when you quoted unlike now. Again, members of those days whom I feel have moved on were so informed and comments intelligently. |

Intelligent and purposeful unintelligent comments, the serious and unserious commenters, the straight forward fellas and the comedians make up this forum. NwaAmaikpe possesses a touch of all and it is well known that he is undoubtedly intelligent and well informed on matters concerning Nigeria and beyond. What exactly is his offense to be serving this long ban? The traffic on Nairaland is caused by so many factors. As far as a couple of us rely on news and informations from here from genuine sources, some others come for comic relief and we know the monikers to look out for. Please unban NwaAmaikpe.

Politics › Nigeria Is Only African Country Barred From 2022 US Visa Lottery by Magic1(op): 11:00am On Oct 16, 2020 |
Nigeria is only African country barred from 2022 US visa lottery
Nigerians have been barred from participating in the United States’ visa lottery in 2022.
This was disclosed in a document titled ‘Instructions for the 2022 diversity immigrant visa program (dv-2022)’ obtained from the US’ website on Thursday, October 15.
"In Africa, natives of Nigeria are not eligible for this year’s Diversity Visa program," the document stated.
It stated that Nigeria was barred because more than 50,000 of its citizens immigrated to the United States in the previous five years.
Citizens of other African countries are eligible to apply, but "persons born in the areas administered prior to June 1967 by Israel, Jordan, Syria, and Egypt are chargeable,
respectively, to Israel, Jordan, Syria, and Egypt. Persons born in the Gaza Strip are chargeable to Egypt; persons born in the West Bank are chargeable to Jordan; persons born in the Golan Heights are chargeable to Syria."
The document reads in part, "Applicants who are selected in the program (selectees) must meet simple but strict eligibility requirements to qualify for a diversity visa. The Department of State determines selectees through a randomized computer drawing. The Department of State distributes diversity visas among six geographic regions, and no single country may receive more than seven percent of the available DVs in any one year.
"For DV-2022, persons born in the following countries are not eligible to apply, because more than 50,000 natives of these countries immigrated to the United States in the previous five years: Bangladesh, Brazil, Canada, China (including Hong Kong SAR), Colombia, Dominican
Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, India, Jamaica, Mexico, Nigeria, Pakistan, Philippines, South Korea, United Kingdom (except Northern Ireland) and its dependent territories, and Vietnam.
"Persons born in Macau SAR and Taiwan are eligible." |

Jones4190: PDP is a fraud. Multiplier effect of corruption 1. A young man works for one of the state ministries. His salary is 120K. He makes 15,000 everyday on this desk (N75k a week) engaging in corrupt practices. As a result, he spends the daily cash as he cares. Living large and far above his legitimate income. 2. He visits the local joint every evening and buys drinks for friends, and area boys. They hail him. He is married, but has two girlfriends. His "income" is enough to take care of them. The Asun seller at his favorite joint is happy, the joint owner is happy. 3. Everyone was benefiting from his "income". Friends, family, area boys, joint owner, Asun seller, girlfriends, wife and his church. Life was good. 4. Then suddenly the ministry implemented the Treasury Single Account (TSA) at the beginning of PMB administration. His extra "income" disappeared and he had to adjust to the reality of event and live within his real income. That wasn't easy. 5. Initially he reduced his daily visit to the joint to 3 days a week and stopped buying drinks for everyone. He reduced the plates of Asun. The Asun seller started to find it hard to sell a full goat each day and resorted to buying half. 6. The young man's girlfriends started to feel the heat too. No more iPhone 10. The joint owner noticed a drop in sales. The young man finally stopped visiting the joint after a month. The area boys started feeling his absence. The effect cascaded down. 7. The young man started spending more time at home with his wife and kids. The family had to readjust to the reality of the new normal. His hair stylist noticed the young man suddenly stopped tipping. He will even wait for his N200 change after haircut. 8. Things are different. Times are hard, they all cry. The young man is blaming Buhari, his wife is blaming Buhari, the area boys are blaming Buhari, the girlfriends are saying Buhari must go, the joint owner is saying Buhari killed the "economy" 9. The Asun seller is cursing Buhari, the hair stylist is insisting Buhari is too old to rule. This is the story of our nation where corruption fuels the "economy". Those who are not engaging in it are benefiting from it. 10. This tread is not about Buhari's achievement or failure, but rather about the "multiplier" effect of corruption and how we have built a system largely driven by corruption. It's about policy implication (good or bad). It's about the choices we have made. Finally, the young man had to withdraw his kids from what he called expensive primary school his kids attend. He added:"what are they teaching them there sef " Obasanjo didn't go to a private school. I just laughed . So what is the government doing with the excess monies recovered from the implementation of TSA because despite that, we have also witnessed dramatic increment in almost everything ranging from Pump price, electricity tariff, VAT and the market woman has also increased price of garri. So what exactly is the effect of this write up. I’m not condoling nor encouraging corruption though. |

post=93552426: This is not the time to increase fuel price in our darling nation at all.
Not with all that is going on around the world, pandemic et al, When people are finding it difficult to survive.
This is the same reason we voted out the party of thieves and criminals.
This is not the change we voted for.
The same way we sane, honest and hardworking Nigerians praised this government when they reduced fuel price sometimes ago, we should make sure we put our voice together to castigate and talk against this.
That is the voice the government will listen to, Not the voice of children of hate, frustration and perdition that have never seen any good thing in our country, That all they do is to wail continously in life. They even wailed when the price was reduced. They have been wailing since PMB won the election, even before swearing in! They are not wailing for the common man like (Omotola) and all other sane and honest people are doing, but they are wailing in pain that the corrupt money being shared to them by the losers they support is not forthcoming anymore. They have been so used to corruption, they see it as a way of life. That is what we stand against.
Sane, honest and hardworking Nigerians, Let us come together to Say no to this fuel increase, We need no increament at this time and please ignore enemies of the country that want the evil politicians they voted for to remain in power together.
This is not the change we voted for. Something must be done about this NOW! God bless Nigeria.
If you are a genuine Nigerian against this increase like us, Signify and let us take it from here, We have the Voice and the Power as citizens. And if you are an enemy of the nation, aka, children of hate and perdition, aka swines, and dare quote this post to wail, May the suffering of the masses go to your heads and the heads of your looters you support a 100 folds. May you be strike down with the hatred for our country that has consumed you from day one. Quote, let us know who will be struck rn!

Having exhausted the three different soups and stew she stocked in the freezer prior leaving for promotion course with the kids, I have been eating out but decided to cook today. I made Ogbono mixed with Okro and stew separately to last me another one month or so. I used small quantity of beef, goat meat, assorted (towel & intestine) and stuck fish. I blended the Ogbono with crayfish while I added hot leaf to produce that sweet smelling aroma. The soup was served with garri(eba). Come join me if you care. Never been a fan of the kitchen. Kudos to our girls, sisters, wives and mothers for dishing out different foods from the kitchen day in, day out.

pocohantas: I will never understand that part. The other one is “bankers are useless outside the bank”.
Is a doctor useful outside the hospital? Or is a lawyer useful outside legal duties? Except they work in a designated unit in another sector. This is where some “bankers“ have an edge. Why would anyone be useful outside the bank because they can count money or fill account opening forms?
Someone said a HR is not a “banker“, but a HR can have opportunities to function in HR units across sectors. Same way a core staff can jump from one bank to another. The ones with meaningful experience or skills enter some private organizations to assume supervisory roles. Ex-bankers should stop demonizing the industry that gave majority of them hope and money to buy their first set of good-looking clothes and cars. God bless you left and right. |

truthsayer009: Thanks for this detailed explanation. It was until this year that I discovered that most Software Engineers in Banks are employed by big tech vendors who have signed agreements with the bank, so the employees are directly under those vendors on contract. Quite weird, that alone is a red flag for me.
I also found out recently from a GTB staff that you get promoted every 4 years as GTB staff. Maybe she was lying, maybe not.
All in all, 360k-380k is a good income if growth is allowed, but promotion twice in 10 years feels like Israelites in the land of Egypt. For market facing staff (marketers), you can even earn promotion every year (very rare these days) but it’s guaranteed 2-3years upon excellent performance. Please note that some spend years on same grade and that’s because they performed below expectations. To avoid remaining on same grade for too long, Banks then introduced “notch”, this way, a staff can move along the notch line (steps) but still on same grade but salary keeps increasing minimally until normal promotion comes. One can get an outright promotion without necessarily moving along the notch line but it’s based on excellent performance. It’s also easier for marketers to move from one bank to the other and such movement comes with next level which is the same as promotion but in a different bank but be rest assured of pressure to deliver on set target. Growth is easier for marketers while the back office staff (operations, internal control/compliance, IT staff etc) can remain on same grades for years. I know of a bank where the operations manager spent 13 years on same grade. She was not alone. So many others experienced that. |

FellaG: Thanks I appreciate.. My position wasn't contract. I and my peers had just 2 promotions in 10yrs.am comfortable but career dead Your position wasn’t contract, then what? As a full staff of Executive Trainee position, your take home is about 170k. You mentioned your colleague who got promoted twice in 10 years and if it’s a proper promotion (without notch), that means he/she was promoted to ABO/ABE/SE (all second level depending on the bank) or BO/BE (3rd level) and the salary of an ABO/ABE/SE is between 360k-380k depending on the bank and for BO/BE, about 400k-420k. So tell me, how are bankers not well paid. Any banking salary less than 100k is contract. Some banks have made it appear like it’s not contract whereas they are not directly employed by the bank, rather vendors. The contract marketers earn salary plus commission on deposit. |

homeboy205: You should have done this research first before going to that local quack mechanic...
Please learn from this in case of next time, the internet is at your hand all day any day....
It’s a simple fix and nothing is meant to be done in the acceleration pedal.
It’s all about your throttle body, I bet it’s too dirty with a lot of build up. That is what cause the low idle after battery change.
You can dIY throttle body cleaning for the year of your car, just watch some videos. But if you can’t, take it back to the mechanic and tell them to clean the throttle body(PLs note: they won’t understand the throttle body English, so just tell them injector mouth)
As for the adjusted throttle pedal, the manufacturer already set that and it’s not meant to be touched.
It’s not a big deal Thanks. Is injector mouth the same as injector nozzle? |
Car Talk › Change In Engine Rave After Battery Replacement by Magic1(op): 10:09am On Jul 11, 2020 |
I got a new 75Ah battery for my 03/04 Camry few days back and realized that my engine sound goes low when engaged in drive with the AC on. You could only feel air coming from the AC vent without chill except when the car moves, then you can feel the chill. I took it to my local mechanic and he adjusted something on the accelerator pedal and I could notice the engine sound came up. I became happy and drove off but then, I realized that the engine trips when transmitting between gears. I went back and he did adjust the acceleration pedal again but this, it went low again.
I feel this is the best he can do as the initial problem has returned. This particular problem started after I changed battery.
Car experts and car owners that has experienced this should please assist with possible solution as I wouldn’t want to gamble between mechanics. I need the engine to return to the usual peaceful rave. Please note that it’s a V6 engine.
Mods please help move this to front page for wider audience and assistance. |
