CBN alerts banks on terrorist attack Collins Nweze and Nduka Chiejina, Lagos ALL banks in the country have been thrown into very high security alert following the advise of the National Security Adviser that banks have been targeted by terrorist. A private and confidential letter to all bank chief executives in the country by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) warned all bank chiefs that the apex bank has "received security alert from the office of the National Security Adviser (NSA) indicating the possibility of planned attacks on banks operating in some parts of the country. The letter identified the terrorists as "a group that has been involved in recent spate of bombings and violent confrontations with security agencies". The letter to the bank CEOs dated January 12, 2011 and signed by one Ahmad Abdullahi on behalf of the Director, banking supervision of the CBN, said, "according to security alert, the threat profile is an indication that the group is in dire need of funds for a major operation". The NSA through the CBN then warned that there is "the possibility that banks’ buildings and bullion vans used for cash movement particularly in the Northeast or Abuja could be targeted through the use of Improvised Explosive Devices (IED) and suicide bombings". The NSA and the CBN noted that they learnt that "the planned offensive is to enable the group acquire funds for the operations as well as embarrass the Federal Government". Based on these threats, the NSA urged all banks "to take note, be vigilant and put in place adequate security measures to neutralise such threats or forestall any attack". In addition "all suspicious persons, movements and unidentified or concealed parcels or bags are to be reported to the relevant security agencies for appropriate action". |

Seriously, why should the man be laughing knowing fully well that Nigerians are languishing in poverty and unemployment. As an ex-leader(dictator), he ought to be sober and sorry at all times for the mayhem he unleashed on me,my friends and Nigerians. God pls punish this man. Amen. |
A man that should be in jail for bad governance for more than eight years keeps laughing at every instance. A man that took over OTA FARM built by the federal government to actualize its program "OPERATION FEED THE NATION", why is he laughing? These crooks are lucky that the likes of hamza almustapha is still in jail, cos he would have caged and summarily executed all of those pdp theives/idiots at eagle square. PDP(poverty development party). |
na_so:Point of correction,am not an atiku supporter neither am I a gej supporter. Both are birds of same feather as they've been flocking together. Pdp is an occult and led by lucifer/devil himself. And God must triumph over satan, so it is clear that pdp has lost because the devil which they represent will continue to lose. I made an observation which u ought to contribute positively or u just ignore the thread like u didn't see it. Am sick of people trying to "gej or atiku" almost every comment on nairaland. Abeg free me. Fimile. |
For me, the level of insecurity in the country was demonstrated at the eagle square during the PDP national convention. It is alarming to provide a staggering 40000 personnel in and around the eagle square for the security of about 3500 pdp delegates. This indices means a ratio of approximately 12 security personnel to one delegate. Those comprising the security personnel include but not limited to 17000 police, 5000 soldiers, 5000 road safety officials,3500 manOwar, 2500 SSS and about 7000 civil defence corps. What this means is that for 150millions nigerians to be really secure, about 2.0 billion security personnel ought to be in place. This sounds sooooo ridiculous. |
Dampening the growing enthusiasm over Jonathan’s presidential campaign is the new revelation of the PDP Chairman’s subtle switch on the zoning issue having to do with his intimate connections to one of the PDP presidential aspirants, Atiku. As gathered through a letter written to the Independent National Electoral Commission [INEC] on April 19th 2007 by the National Administrative Secretary [Alhaji Abubakar Suleiman] of the then Action Congress subtitled “INTRODUCING FIVE MAN DELEGATION TO THE NATIONAL ELECTION RESULT COLLATION CENTER”. The letter placed Nwodo, the current PDP chairman as one of the trusted Atiku men during the 2007 election against the Late Yar’Adua/Jonathan campaign. The letter reads in part “This is to introduce to you five man delegation that will represent our Party Action Congress [AC] at the National Election Result Collation Center [INEC]. They are: 1. Chief Tom Ikimi – leader of delegation 2. Bashsir Dalhatu 3. Chief Yomi Edu 4. Dr. Okwesilieze Nwodo 5. Lai Mohammed Please accept the assurances of our highest esteem. Alhaji Abubakar Suleiman, National Administrative Secretary - for National Secretary” |
Nwodo was atiku's returning officer under the action congress in the 2007 presidential elections. |
ola olabiy:The interest of that company in Nigeria has all to do with danjuma. Remember they partnered with danjuma in his oil block. |
I used to know petrobras as a company belonging to General T.Y Danjuma(rtd). These people should stop deceiving us. |
semidaraeb:Ok understood. But should I say his response is clueless and senseless. Not his person. |
I know petrobras as Theophilus Danjuma's company. Chei, these people have built refineries abroad instead of in Nigeria, thereby denying jobs to Nigerians and exporting our cash. Now they want to start exporting our crude oil for free. This nation is heading for doom. |

The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is to begin marketing of refined oil to the United States(U.S), Brazil and other parts of the world to boost the revenue base of the corporation. Its Group Managing Director Mr Austen Oniwon, stated this in Brasilia on Wednesday. He said the corporation, which hitherto had been exporting crude oil to the U.S., had concluded arrangements with Brazil’s Oil company, Petrobras, toward the realisation of this objective. He said the NNPC had since indicated its interest to invest in Petrobras’s plan to expand its refinery in Texas, U.S., from 100,000 barrels to 200,000 barrels per day. "We indicated to them our interest to partner with the company to have an outlet into American market instead of exporting just crude to the American market. "We can take Nigerian crude, which is also going into American market anyway, into this refinery, process and sell as value added product into the American market. "This is something that is going to be beneficial to NNPC and Nigeria as a country," he said. Oniwon told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the NNPC and Petrobras had concluded discussion to enter into a relationship in the areas of oil exploration and production, refining and petro- chemical, oil marketing and trading, gas and power development as well as research and development. He said officials of Petrobras would be coming to Nigeria in February to sign a Memoranda of Understanding (MOU) with the NNPC for the take off of the partnership. "They (Petrobras) hope that we will be able to jointly explore the vast hydro carbon deposit in Nigeria especially in the deep offshore since the MOU is going to embrace worldwide operations. "As partners, we will be able to join Petrobas to operate in their businesses and share their assets outside Nigeria," he added. The GMD said he hoped that the MoU would also enable Nigeria to develop its gas sector for the smooth operation of the various power plants being constructed in the country. According to him, President Goodluck Jonathan has focused on the development of power plants in Nigeria and most of these would be driven by gas. He, therefore, stressed the need for Nigeria to develop its gas sub-sector, primarily for domestic consumption to power the power sector. Oniwon also said he was optimistic that the MoU would address the challenges of infrastructural deficiencies in the nation’s oil and gas sector. "We need partners because the infrastructure that is going to deliver this gas to the various power plants is inadequate at the moment and their provision is going to cost a lot of money. "But with the new government policy whereby the cost of power has been reviewed upward, it has made business and investments in gas project very lucrative "We believe that Petrobras will be eager to join with NNPC to develop the gas resources primarily for domestic use and for export because they are also short of gas in Brazil," he said. |
This jonathan of a man is completely clueless and senseless. This long script is a deliberate move to confuse Nigerians, but I refuse to be confused. What is this man borrowing borrowing borrowing for?!!!!HABA. |
Goodthief Jonathan's goodwill message/dollars indeed. This woman is accepting bribe on behalf of her husband. Jonathan's goodwill message we all know is 10 million dollars cash. Keep sharing the money goodthief jonathan, but u and ur cohorts Atiku won't get our vote. |
What would have been the response of nairalanders and nigerians if the message was from the later. Let's assume some northern youth association threathens war if atiku is denied power come 2011. Like fellow nairalanders,I laugh loudly in fulani. ![]() |
