What a disappointment coming from hitherto good governor. Please retrace your steps Mr Obiano |

Fake news. This OP can lie |
Some people are actually jealous of this governor. He has done exceedingly well. I was at a wedding last month at mbaise, in Imo state. Work is ongoing almost everywhere, with many completed. One wonders if imo ever had a governor since 1999. What were they all doing, that almost all the infrastucture in an entire state is being put up now by one man? Haba. |
Cope1:That shows they respect Nigerians. Unlike previously. Keep it up Apc, and u ll sure win more votes in 2019. |
The federal Government of Nigeria has lamented that at least, 350 million illegal weapons are currently in the country. Minister of Interior, Abdulrahman Dambazau who stated this on Tuesday in Abuja at a meeting on proliferation of small arms and light weapons in Nigeria, said this situation may impact on the 2019 general elections negatively. While expressing dissatisfaction with proliferation of small arms and light weapons in the country, he stressed that 70 percent of the 500 million of such weapons in West Africa found their ways to Nigeria. "From records by the United Nations Centre for Peace and Disarmament, I understand that there are approximately 500 million assorted firearms in West Africa. "And out of these 500 million, 70 per cent, approximating 350 million of them are in Nigeria. And, of course, we know for a fact, that quite a large consignment of weapons are being smuggled, or have been smuggled from North Africa, in particular, Libya, as a consequence of the crisis in that country. "And, in addition to that, the insurgency in the North East, adds more of the problem. Because of the supplies of weapons to the insurgents and terrorists there. "Likewise, we have similar problems in the Niger Delta, where militants are supplied weapons, not only by trade-by-barter with (with stolen oil), but also politicians supply weapons, in order to carry out actions against opponents. "These are the issues that we hope to deal with, particularly that 2019 elections are coming up. And, quite a lot of movements of these weapons; people take advantage of that. So, it is very necessary for us to secure our country", Dambazau said. Dambazau blamed Nigeria's porous borders for the proliferation of the illegal weapons. He declared that the Federal Government was determined to end the trend before the 2019 elections. "Following the meeting we had with Governors two weeks back over the violent conflicts that took place in Benue and other places, between herders and farmers, one of the issues that came up in the communique, was the issue of the proliferation of small arms, and also the issue of drug trafficking and abuse. "And, we also found that these two issues are triggers to the violence taking place in this country. "Without the firearms, without the drugs being processed, the courage of those who partake in violence, we would not have the kind of violence with magnitude we have today. So, there is need to take very urgent action, in order to ensure that this situation is dealt with accordingly. "And, as a follow-up, I invited this meeting of experts so that we will be able to deal with the situation, examine and analyse it, and see how best we can approach it. Dambazau challenged the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies to ensure that the nation's borders are well manned. "Our borders are porous. With about 5,000 kilometres porous, there is need for us to look at these issues, because we must secure our country, we must secure our future. "But, with these weapons and drugs smuggled into this country, if we don't do something now, I am afraid things will be worse than it is now. "The herders/farmers' conflict, ethno/religious crisis, violent crimes of armed robbery, kidnapping, cultism, militancy, terrorism; all that have something to with weapons and drugs. So, we must deal with this issue." https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/350-million-illegal-weapons-in-nigeria-fg-laments.html |

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has said that President Muhammadu Buhari was under pressure at ‘some point in the past’ to declare a state of emergency in the state. The governor, who is a member of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, also said the lives of animals are treated better under the present administration. “When I went to see the President, he told me that he was under pressure to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State,” a Government House statement quoted Mr. Wike to have said on Friday when he received the Anglican Bishops of Niger Delta Province who visited him at the Government House. The governor did not, however, mention when, and why, the president made the remark. Apart from political tension caused by hotly contested elections which are oftentimes marred by violence and killings, Rivers has witnessed several cult-related violence and killings, the latest one being the gruesome killing of 17 people in Omoku on New Year Day. The opposition All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state is accusing the governor of “working with” cult kingpins and lacking the capacity to tackle insecurity in the state. Mr. Wike denies this. Mr. Wike told the Anglican bishops that his state ceased to be the focus of the APC-controlled federal government because of “mass insecurity across the country”. “Those things they planned to use in declaring a state of emergency in Rivers State fell on their own states and it became difficult to do so,” he said. “When you sit and plot evil against Rivers State, you will not know peace. If they don’t apologise for plotting and executing evil against Rivers State, they will never know peace.” The governor accused President Buhari of not showing interest on the recent killing in Benue State, saying that in some other countries the president would have visited the area to assess the situation even if the lives lost were fewer in number. “Human lives are not respected,” he said. “In fact, the lives of cows and chicken appear to be more important than human lives. “This has nothing to do with politics. Let us not trivialise the catastrophy that has befallen Nigeria,” he added. Mr. Wike, who said that his state survived by the prayers of the clerics and the church, urged the church to show interest in the nation’s politics. “If you don’t participate in what is happening through voting, the country will degenerate further. People should acquire their permanent voter’s card to enthrone the leadership they desire,” he said. Mr. Wike reiterated his administration’s plan to set up a Christian Trust Fund to cater for indigent clerics and told the bishops that a proposal to that effect was already in the 2018 budget of the state. The bishops, led by the Anglican Archbishop of Niger Delta Province, Ignatius Kattey, told the governor that they were in the Government House to thank him for his role in the success of the Anglican Synod. The bishops, who were accompanied by their wives, presented an award to the governor. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/top-news/256119-buhari-lives-cows-important-humans-wike.html |
Retired Civil Servants in Rivers State have issued two months ultimatum to the Rivers State government to pay off all the outstanding pensions in the state. The retired civil servants said failure on the part of Government to comply with the ultimatum would attract legal action. The State leadership of the Nigeria Union of Pensioners said this in reaction to alleged statement credited to Governor Wike at flag off of road construction at Isiokpo in Ikwerre Local Government on the 23rd December last year where the Governor denied that the state government was owning the pensioners. Rising from a state Congress of the Union, the State Chairman of Pensioners, Edward Festus-Abibo pointed out that for over fifteen years since the review of pension, salaries, incomes and wages commission had not been paid. He complained that every effort to draw the attention of the Governor to the plight of the pensioners had proved abortive. Abibo further lamented the untold hardships experienced by the pensioners just as called for review of the contributory pension scheme which he said was not favourable to pensioners. According to him, “Rivers State government is the only government that has refused to pay attention to the increase in pension rate since fifteen years now. “The Union is very much shocked with Governor Wike’s statement; we want to categorically state that the state government is owing pensioners of this state. “Respect they say is reciprocal, no matter the level one has attained in life, honour should be given to whom honour is due. “Some of us trained most of the political leaders, so it is injustice and inhuman for the senior citizens not to be paid their pension entitlements and be respected”, he said. https://www.today.ng/news/nigeria/63535/pensioners-protest-governor-wike-outstanding-pensions?utm_source=nnd.ng&utm_medium=twitter&utm_campaign=nigerianewsdesk |
Killers are known to always point accusing fingers at anyone but themselves |
The Secretary-General of the association, Usman Ngelzerma, said this during an interview with The PUNCH on Tuesday. Ngelzerma said, “I like the Benue State governor. He is a peace-loving person but is working on wrong advice. The approach he took is wrong. You cannot change the way of life of a people like the way you turn off a light switch. “We don’t wish for the crisis to continue but let us give it (the law) another look. We don’t like the killings; we will never condone the killing of people. Give the farmers their rights but consider the pastoralists too.” Ngelzerma, blamed a faction of the association for issuing threats before the latest attacks in Benue State. He fingered the Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, which endorsed the then President Goodluck Jonathan in the build-up to the 2015 election, as being at loggerheads with the Benue State Government. The secretary-general alleged that the livestock guards, employed by the state government to enforce the anti-open grazing law, were high-handed and were extorting money from the pastoralists. Ngelzerma claimed that the fighting between the herdsmen and the livestock guards led to the January 1 killings in five communities in the Guma and Logo Local Government Areas of the state in which over 20 persons were murdered. http://punchng.com/benue-must-modify-grazing-law-for-peace-to-reign-miyetti-allah/ |
