Going by the recent happenings in our dear country, the inter-tribal and religious violence, the bombings, the bribery, extortions, torture, murder and unwarranted intimidation and detentions all directly linked to the police without achieving its objective of securing our lives and our properties, it is high time we call for the scrapping of the force and empowering of the civil defence corps as they have recorded some successes without the use of rifles and all that. This is my candid opinion, as a lover of human life and Nigeria in general. |
A true prophet indeed. |
Good news for Imo people. Sure things are getting better. Kick out all the 419ners and those pdp imposed LG thieves. I wish am from that state. A bold leader I must say. Can't wait for u to be our President cos I believe u will kick out all our thieving Emirs, obj, anenih, danjuma, ibb and put them in kirikiri where they rightly belong. Kudos to a man of goodwill towards his people. Owelle for real. |
Imo State Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha yesterday sacked all the 27 local government chairmen in the state saying the system is characterised with corruption and indiscipline. Also dissolved are all local government development centers in the state. Okorocha, who made the declaration in his maiden broadcast to the people of the state said an audit committee would be constituted to review the activities all the local governments. The state governor stated that traditional rulers had left their stool to play politics, a situation that would not be tolerated by the state government. According to him, the state government would review the staff of office issued recently to the newly created autonomous communities by the immediate past governor, Chief Ikedi Ohakim. He, therefore, dissolved the state Council of Traditional Rulers headed by Eze Cletus Ilomuanya, saying the leadership no longer enjoyed the confidence of its members. “It is sad to note that some of our traditional rulers have left their stool to play politics. This will no longer be tolerated. We shall also review the staff of office issued to the recently created autonomous communities in the state during political campaigns for the purpose of politics and political gains. A committee is already being constituted for this purpose.” Governor Okorocha also announced the suspension of the Acting Vice Chancellor of the Imo State University (IMSU), Owerri, Prof. Osy Nwebo, pointing out that his appointment had affected the smooth running of the institution coupled with his unethetical behaviour. He said the university still remained the pride of the state regretting that the institution had been over politicised with appointments and court cases. He stated that his administration considered the increase in school fees in the Imo State University to about N150,000 as unjustifiable. Okorocha in the broadcast disclosed that the debt profile of the state stood at N100 billion including internal and external debts as well as outstanding contract bills. He said the state remained one of low-income states with about N2.2 billion monthly subvention and about N1.9 billion monthly wage bill. Okorocha, however, directed the suspension of 10,000 jobs, saying that government would in line with its commitment to job creations review the situation. Reacting, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Imo State chapter, described the dissolution of local government councils as illegal. The PDP state legal adviser, Chief C.O.C Akolisa said the state would be witnessing a regime of illegality founded on euphoria of mass support. He said he was yet to find any legal foundation of an elected governor to dissolve a properly constituted and elected third tier of government. http://sunnewsonline.com/webpages/news/national/2011/june/07/national-07-06-2011-009.html |
efisher:In addition, the Nigerian government knows those throwing those bombs here and there; the intelligent agencies know them, but they believe that touching them would cause problems, so no one is doing any thing, as long as they are bombing human beings and not pipelines. Any day these terrorists touches an oil pipeline, that would be the end of the group and their bombs. In Nigeria, a drop of oil is worth more than five liters of blood, because blood does not swell bank accounts of our corrupt politicians, who happened to steal themselves to power. If MEND changes plans today and starts bombing human beings instead of pipelines, JTF would die a natural death. Nigeria is not a country, it is a theater of macabre dance, where there are no rules, every body displays his/her skills in any style or form he/she is comfortable with. No restrictions no regulations. God bless and save poor Nigerian masses, whether in the north or south. |
The list sent to the Presidency include, former Chairman of the Niger Delta Development Commission, Chief Onyema Ugochukwu, Mr. Chinedu Orji (Governor’s son), and Prince Vincent Ogbulafor, former National Chairman of the PDP, all from Abia Central. Dangote Cement records N28b profit in first quarter May 10, 2011 Business By Providence Obuh Dangote Cement Plc (DCP) a member of the Dangote Group has posted a Profit Before Tax (PBT) of N27.90 billion for the first quarter ended March 31, 2010. This represents a growth of 4.5 per cent from N25.45 billion recorded in the corresponding period of 2010. The company in the financial period recorded a turnover of N54.51 billion compared to N49.87 billion in 2010. According to the unaudited interim financial report approved by the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE), Dangote Cement gross profit rose from N26.73 billion to N28.83 billion in the review period. Its operating profit also increased from N25.29 billion to N27.36 billion, while Profit After Tax (PAT) stood at N27.47 billion, a significant leap from N24.71 in 2010. In the full year ended December 31, 2010, the company reported a turnover of N202.565 billion, as against N189.6 billion recorded for the preceding year. While the company’s profit before tax rose by 58.9 per cent to N101.33 billion from the preceding year’s N63.8 billion, profit after tax increased by 73.7 per cent to N106.6 billion from N61.4 billion in 2009. President of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote assured the shareholders of good returns on their investments, stating that the significant contributions of the new line in Obajana and commencement of production of six million metric tons in Ibeshe plant later this year, will positively affect the company’s turnover and ultimately returns on shareholders investments. Special Adviser to the President Dangote Group, Eng. Joseph Makoju speaking on the result said “this impressive result for 2010 financial year when viewed against the background of the relatively stable environment of 2010 is not unexpected as the supply and cost of major input of cement manufacture such as natural gas, LPFO and diesel were relatively stable.” He commended The Federal Government for improved environment in the Niger Delta-the major source of energy driving the nation’s industrial sector adding that in the face of competition from cheap but low quality imports/products being dumped in our markets, “Nigerian manufacturers need predictable, stable and realistically priced supply of gas, fuel oil and diesel to keep their energy cost low and ultimately the end-product pricing competitive.” Dangote Cement Plc is currently the biggest quoted company in West Africa. The latest ranking of Africa’s Top 50 Companies released by IC Publications, publishers of London-based African Business magazine, recently, indicated that Dangote Cement had a total market value of $12.2 billion, as at mid-March 2011, making it the largest company in the entire West African sub-region. This confirmed an earlier report by Stakes 55, an international rating agency, which ranked Dangote Cement as the top quoted company in Nigeria out of a list of 55 companies, late last year. African Business further noted that Dangote Cement, a new entrant on the list, towered above Anglogold Ashanti of Ghana and Nigerian Breweries Plc, which placed second and third with market values of $6.0billion and $3.8billion, respectively, while Zenith Bank Plc, with market value of $3.1billion was rated the fourth biggest company in West Africa. First Bank of Nigeria Plc came fifth with $2.9billion. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2011/05/dangote-cement-records-n28-billion-profit-in-first-quarter/ |
I think if the state governors had been proactive considering the glaring outcome of the presidential elections, the violence would have been controlled. Intelligence gathering and investigations can be sponsored by the state government. The enforcement of the outcome can then be left for the federal police. That is my humble view. |
Because the primary responsibility of any governor in Nigeria is the security of life and property of its citizenry, I call on Jonathan to use his good office to effect the immediate removal of the affected governors and replace same with military administrators. This I believe will reduce loss of lives and a successful gubernatorial elections and eventual handover in may to elected governors. I lay blame for all the happenings on the governors whom have shown little or no effort to arrest the situation other than name-calling and dragging the presidency into state affairs. Your views will be appreciated. And pls don't derail by saying almajiri this, cpc that. Thank u. |
It is high-time the governors of these states to take responsibility for the deaths of especially the youth corpers. the governors should be made to vacate their sit if they cannot secure their people. Enough of cpc this, pdp that. |
I think professor Atahiru Jega should be arrested immediately and charged to court for; Willful deceit of Nigerians as regards to ddc machines. And announcement of manipulated presidential results. I believe one man should not keep trying to deceive millions of other Nigerians. He should be made to account for the billions pdp looted in the name of credible election "ddc machines" |
Buhari has since said that the elections were marred with irregularities and inflation of numbers and as such not a credible. We all should the ask the inec to release the real results as it is. Even without those inflation, gej may still win. So why inflate it? |
What amuses me most is the curfew in place during the day. These guys are masters in night attack. The Igbos who are always at the receiving end should flee for their safety as the government of Goodluck Jonathan is confirmed to be incompetent as regards internal security. The simplest solution to the problem is to announce results that only reflect the wishes of the electorate. Buhari won the election in all the northern states, whereas jonathan had same in the south-west and parts of south-south. Elections have never been held in the south-east since the commencement of the exercise. All the south-east figures are inflated. But the pdp has decided to set the nation on fire. I weep for my country. |
Nigeria’s ruling People’s Democratic Party (PDP) was losing the parliamentary election in an embarrassing fashion in places where yesterday’s National Assembly elections took place, according to preliminary election numbers obtained by SaharaReporters from Kaduna, Benue, Gombe, Katsina, Nassarawa and Lagos. From Gombe State, SaharaReporters obtained the following vote tally from Kofar Ajiya: PDP 10, ANPP 19 and CPC 121; Kofar Shetima: PDP 5 votes, ANNP 10 and CPCP 117; Kofar Sadauki: PDP 12 votes, CPC 132; and at Kofar Sarkin Dabe: PDP 1 vote and CPC with 48 votes. Of equal interest, in Kaduna State, in Vice- President Sambo's own neighborhood of 500 voters, the PDP received only 100, and in Suba LGA, Kaduna out of 10,000 votes PDP only managed to get 500. The elections were in progress before an unprecedented logistical collapse compelled the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to cancel them as the agency had failed to deliver voting materials to millions of voters across the nation on Saturday. Meanwhile, major opposition parties met in Abuja earlier today and plan to meet with INEC chairman, Mahmud Jega later to deliver a unanimous request that the election, now rescheduled for tomorrow, March 4, be cancelled by INEC and postponed for at least one week. |

President Goodluck Jonathan has wished Ibrahim Babangida good health and long life as the former military celebrated his 69th birthday on Tuesday. In a letter dated August 17th, a copy of which was made available to State House Correspondents yesterday, Mr. Jonathan said: “As you celebrate this day with family, friends and numerous well wishers, it is my prayer that Almighty God continues to guide, guard and bless you with robust health and His abiding provision in many years ahead. ” The president remarked that Mr. Babangida had done so much to uplift this country and therefore deserves to be celebrated. “I wish you a very happy sixty-nine birthday anniversary. Congratulations your Excellency and please accept the assurances of my highest consideration and esteem, ” he wrote. The President’s congratulatory message came on the heels of the presidential contest, for which Mr. Babangida has already declared his interest and which Mr. Jonathan is still to make a public declaration. Only last week, Mr. Babangida responded to a comment by Mr. Jonathan saying that for claiming that he was serving out the joint ticket he had with late Umaru Musa Yar ’Adua, the president was being intellectually dishonest. 234next.com/csp/cms/sites/Next/Home/5608560-146/jonathan_commends_babangida___.csp |

Tempers flared and tension mounted in Katsina yesterday over the arrest of the CPC gubernatorial candidate, Sen. Yakubu Lado. The arrest, which took place, ostensibly on the orders of the commissioner of police, generated rage among supporters of the CPC who took to the streets. A government press statement, which was subsequently withdrawn, revealed an arrest order. The protests started at about 10 a.m. when party leaders and supporters stormed the police headquarters in Katsina. The party stalwarts included officers and candidates led by the national party leader and chairman, Mamman Abubakar Dan Musa. The protests escalated to various parts of the town. By noon, there were many instances of bonfire, starting from the state party secretariat at IBB way while youths moved angrily from IBB way through Kofar Kaura and proceeded to Kofar Durbi in katsina. Other groups of protesters that took off from WTC road, passed through Hassan Usman Katsian road up to Government House and moved towards Kofar Durbi. The police had a Herculean task, as they were taken on by the protesters who threw stones at the security forces in order to open paths of protest. The police countered with tear gas in various parts of the town. One of the main victims of the police brutality, Hajiya Mairo Tafida, former President Umar Musa Yar ’adua’s elder sister who joined CPC with his younger brother Abdulaziz Musa Yar’adua, was man handled during the arrest of Yakubu Lado. Yar’Adua’s elder sister, who has asthma, was sprayed with tear gas and she collapsed at the scene before other supporters came to her rescue. While speaking to The Nation on the police brutality against her, she said, “the police sprayed tear gas on me until I fell down outside there before my people came and took me aside and revived me. They told them I was asthmatic yet, they still sprayed me ”. Sources said the state government had made good its threat to arrest the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) gubernatorial candidate, Senator Yakubu Lado yesterday. Sen. Yakubu Garba Lado, the CPC gubernatorial candidate, was forcibly arrested in his Liyafa Hotel room in Katsina. The arrest was carried out amidst police shooting and release of tear gas on morning at about 3.30 am yesterday. Reliable sources informed The Nation that the police numbering over twenty who arrested Sen . Yakubu Lado failed in its attempt on his running mate, Col. Abdullaziz Musa Yar ’adua (Rtd) from the hotel after hours of surveillance that lasted till about 1.30 am. It was after this botched attempt that they descended on Lado and his supporters immediately on arrival at the hotel. CPC gubernatorial running mate to Yakubu Lado, Abdullaziz Musa Yar ’adua, former president Umar Musa Yar’adua’s younger brother, who spoke to The Nation gave the graphic details, but expressed shock at what he described as irresponsible display of power by the state government. “After we finished our meeting with CPC state executives in respect of the party rally due to hold today (yesterday) at Daura zone, we came back with our CPC gubernatorial candidate, Sen. Yakubu Lado to our lodge in Liyafa hotel to sleep. “Ten minutes after we arrived, mobile police men numbering over 20, well armed and led by one Mohammed Sani in charge of Katsina Government House Security, led his men and forced his way into our residence in our apartment ”. “They forced their way in to the bed room where our gubernatorial candidate was lying in down in studio 1 room, while I was in other another apartment studio 2 room trying to sleep when Lado ’s Aide came in that the have some unusual situation with them”. thenationonlineng.net/web3/mobile/news/29967.html |
I used to think Jonathan supporters are eligible voters, The reality of things, Jonathan has virtual supporters that are liabilities to his ambition. A rude shock awaits him. While his southern tribal supporters are facebook-praising/nairaland-praising him, we Northerners went to register. INEC list has more northerners than southerners, We know where we will vote. |
'IBB is like a father to me, I used to consult him for advice when I was a governor' (GEJ). No wonder he looted Bayelsa to coma. With a Father Like IBB, a Party Like PDP, a Mentor Like OBJ, a Mediator/desperado like Mr Fix It, Who Needs A President Like Ebele Jonathan? |
During the pre-primaries, we virtually begged igbos to support us against greedy gej. But u chose to ditch zoning and supported a man who cares less about your welfare. How can u people in your right senses talk about zoning. For your information, the igbos are irrelevant, dubious and inconsistent. In modern day nigeria, there will never be one igbo in federal governance. Your governors(except chime and amaechi) are clueless and empty,so what do u expect. Msheew. |
