PoliticsWike Wants To Reconstruct Benue Roads. "There’s Plot To Disturb Contractor" Wike by maimalari(op): 6:00am On Mar 30, 2017
A PLOT to disturb the contractor hired by Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike to reconstruct two roads in Benue State may have been uncovered.

The Rivers State governor yesterday raised the alarm over the plot to scuttle the multi-billion project.

On Sunday, Wike said he decided to reconstruct the Makurdi-Naka-Adoka and the Aliade-Oju-Obarike-Ito-Otukpo roads in Benue State, as his contribution to alleviate the suffering of people of the state. He put the project cost at N4 billion.

Speaking yesterday, Wike alleged that some elements in the Benue State were planning to disturb contractor he had mobilised to the sites.

He said: “We have mobilised the contractor to site, to reconstruct the two roads in Benue. But information reaching us indicate that there is plan to disturb the work. We want to get the road done as quickly as possible, but the plan to disturb the contractor is giving us some worries.

“Those who are planning this should bear in mind that they are working against development. The people of Benue, who use these roads, are suffering and we want to bring an end to this by reconstructing the roads. Those against the job should not be enemies of progress.”

According to him, the recent protest of pensioners in the state confirmed his earlier claim that the welfare of the people in Benue State has not received adequate attention from the government.

“You must have heard that pensioners protested in Benue. They protested because they are being owed pension arrears. I have been vindicated. The Benue State government has failed in its duties,” he said.

Wike’s call for the imposition of a state of emergency in Benue State over what he described as the state government’s show of incapability in handling security matters drew the ire of his Benue counterpart, Samuel Ortom.

He also called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to probe Ortom over the use of Paris Club refund allocation.

On the Paris Club refunds, the governor said despite the amount of money disbursed to Benue, the state government has not done much for the people.

Wike said Benue people are suffering “because they don’t have dividends of democracy.”

PoliticsNupeng Suspends Strike by maimalari(op): 6:29am On Jan 12, 2017
The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers on Wednesday suspended its three-day nationwide warning strike after a meeting with officials of the Federal Government.

NUPENG commenced the strike on Wednesday morning over unresolved issues, including pay and job loss disputes with some International Oil Companies operating in the country, after a 21-day ultimatum given to the Federal Government to intervene and resolve the issues.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria similarly dropped its planned industrial action over similar complaints in the oil and gas sector. The association had issued a two-week ultimatum to the government to resolve the issues.

The two unions took the decision to shelve the industrial action after a five-hour meeting with the Federal Government’s delegation led by the Minister of Labour and employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, and representatives of multinational oil companies in Abuja on Wednesday.

“All issues have been addressed one after the other. We are very satisfied with the commitment shown,” the President, NUPENG, Mr. Igwe Achese, said after the talks.

Ahead of the meeting with the Federal Government, the Chairman, NUPENG, South-West zone, Alhaji Tokunbo Korodo, had told our correspondent, “All loading activities have been halted; so there is no fuel coming out of any depot. There is total compliance (with the directive to embark on a strike) by our members.”

NUPENG is one of several labour unions that have criticised oil companies for sacking workers in the last few months.

“Filling stations, petrol tankers and all NUPENG members are involved,” Reuters quoted the Warri Zonal Chairman of NUPENG, Mr. Cogent Ojobo, as saying.

The union had said the strike would last for three days and involve around 10,000 workers.

Ahead of the meeting with the government, Ojobo said, “If the issues at stake are resolved and a communiqué signed, the strike will be called off.”

He also said workers had gone on strike at seven crude oil flow stations in and around Oleh, a town in Delta State, which is in the Niger Delta.

“Seven flow stations belonging to Nigerian Petroleum Development Company were shut by the workers and they are still shut,” Ojobo said, adding that the workers, who are employed by contractors, had not been paid.

Nigeria has been hit hard by a slump in crude oil prices in the past two years, which helped to push the country into recession. A wave of militant attacks in the Niger Delta oil hub throughout 2016 hampered production.

The spokesman for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, Mr. Ndu Ughamadu, said checks were being made to establish whether the Niger Delta flow stations had been affected.

Last week, NUPENG held a strike at Total’s fuel depots in a protest over sackings, but it was suspended after one day after an agreement was reached.

The camp of Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, has finally crumbled in Rivers South East Senatorial Zone with barely two days to go to the December 10, 2016 rescheduled rerun parliamentary elections in the State.

This follows the decision of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) strongman, Chief Olaka Nwogu, to sacrifice his senatorial ambition and join forces with the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Senator Magnus Ngei Abe. Olaka Nwogu, who was the PDP candidate for the rerun election and in pursuant of this new goal have strategically refused to attend any of the shambolic rallies and deceitful projects flag-offs organized by Wike in the South East Senatorial District; tested the waters of dumping Wike by approving and mobilising his supporters to massively defect to APC by late November 2016 to prepare ground for his formal defection immediately after the December 10 rerun election stating that denying Abe the Senate slot at this time will be a great disservice to Rivers State.
To worsen Wike’s political woes, Engr Tele Ikuru erstwhile Deputy Governor to Chibuike Amaechi known in some quarters as Rivers State modern Judas Iscariot went into hiding when Senator Abe and his Team stormed Andoni the home Local Government Area of Chief Uche Secondus former PDP Acting National Chairman as his Chief Strategist, Mobilizer and strongman, Kingston Sylvanus defects to APC with over 600 PDP members. It is said that with this development both Ikuru, Secondus, Wike are now a little less better than orphans in the politics of Andonai not minding the decision of Chief Olaka to join forces with Abe. According to Hon. Sylvanus, “now that PDP has no candidate for the Senate slot for the district, what is the need to continue to stay in an obvious dead political party in the State?”
Senator Abe was visibly happy over this development as he received Kinston Sylvanus and the entire Tele Ikuru’s political structure emphasizing that nobody should rest until PDP and Wike are formally buried in Rivers State by ensuring that no PDP Candidate gets any vote during the rerun election ? while receiving the over 300 Nwogu’s supporters and members of PDP at Bua Zaakpon community in Khana Local Government Area and Akpajo community in Eleme Local Government Area, who have decamped to APC; Senator Abe commended the people of Rivers South East for resolving to resist the tyranny of Governor Wike.

PoliticsRe: How Amaechi Diverted Over N40 Billion Into Buhari’s Presidential Campaign by maimalari: 4:25pm On Oct 24, 2016
dukie25:
The immediate past governor of Rivers State and current Minister of Transport, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi illegally acquired and diverted not less than N40 billion of Rivers State funds into the presidential campaign of the All Progressives Congress (APC) which saw the emergence of Muhammadu Buhari as President, emerging details are revealing.

Funds running into billions of naira were unaccounted for in sleazy misappropriations allegedly facilitated and presided over by the former Rivers State governor. Sources informed about the shady deals under Amaechi availed SIGNAL, details that show how Rivers State’s treasury was emptied into private concerns of the former governor as well as the APC presidential campaign.

In October 2015, a Judicial Commission of Inquiry, set up to investigate the sale of state assets in Rivers State under Amaechi demanded the immediate prosecution of Amaechi and all his cronies involved in the illegal sale of Rivers State assets. According to the panel report, Amaechi misappropriated over N97 billion in the sale of the state valued assets.

“The commission recommends that the former governor of Rivers State, Rt. Hon. Rotimi Amaechi, along with his former commissioners for Finance and Power, Dr. Chamberlain Peterside and Augustine Nwokocha, respectively, should be held to account for their roles in the sales of the power generation assets of First Independent Power Limited and the disbursement of the proceeds therefrom.

“Government accepts this recommendation and directs the office of the Honorable Attorney-General and commissioner for Justice, to promptly set in motion the appropriate machinery for the recovery of the proceeds of the sale of the gas turbines from the former governor, Rotimi Amaechi, and every other persons implicated in the commission’s report,” the Commissioner of Housing in Rivers State, Emma Okah, who spoke on behalf of the State Government, said.

In August 2015, reports in the Nigerian media were awash with Amaechi’s ownership of several foreign accounts. In one of the reports, it was alleged that “the sum of over 757 million U.S. dollars was stacked by Amaechi in a foreign U.S. Bancorp/Minnesota account.”

In swift reaction, the Integrity Group, a non-governmental organization, sent a petition to President Buhari as well as the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission chairman to investigate Amaechi for the over N70 billion allegedly stolen from the Rivers State government.

According to investigative reports, backed with several documents attached to the Rivers State Judicial Commission of Inquiry report, this amount is separate from the N21 billion which the PDP claims Amaechi transferred from the Power Assets proceeds account of Access bank to the accounts of three private companies with a 25 Trans-Amadi Road, Port Harcourt address. Those companies are Advante Consulting and Management Company, Result Imports Experts Company, and Capital Ltd.

The PDP in Rivers State claim that there are many more instances of fraud and theft perpetrated by the former Governor, which is why they are asking President Buhari to probe Rotimi Amaechi’s past. But instead of probing Amaechi, his role as the benefactor of President Buhari’s campaign was fatly rewarded with a government appointment as Minister of Transport under Buhari.

Whereas it is in naija's best interest to investigate both apc and pdp, it is in naija interest that someone is being investigated for wrongdoing whichever political interest it serves at all.

His kinsmen want to kill him? Hmmm. That is why i must always say that charity begins at home. Jonathan wasted his opportunity to transform his kinsmen, rather he flaunts rangerovers and rollsroyces to their face. He will be safer in abuja cos he at least built some roads+almajiri schools for them. The northerners may protect him. But obviously he isnt safe in his home-state due to wicked negligence and intimidation that characterised his reign.

PoliticsAisha Buhari Arrives Washington DC by maimalari(op): 2:37am On Aug 04, 2016
Nigeria’s First Lady Aisha Buhari on Wednesday evening arrived in Washington DC on a weeklong visit. She is billed to attend a number of events in the area.

Sources at the Nigerian Embassy in Washington DC said Mrs. Buhari arrived on a British Airways flight from London.

Her visit is of tremendous interest in Nigeria where Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose alleged in June that Mrs. Buhari was involved in the infamous Halliburton scandal, and is the “Aisha Buhari” mentioned in related court documents.

Our investigations show that there is no “Aisha Buhari” mentioned in the Halliburton scandal. However, there is one mentioned in the case of former United States congressman William Jefferson, who was convicted on corruption charges in 2009, and to whom “Aisha Buhari” wired the sum of $170,000. It is to that matter the governor mistakenly appears to allude.

On several occasions, Governor Fayose asserted that Mrs. Buhari could not enter the US, suggesting she would be arrested, a bluff she has now called. Investigations by SaharaReporters and the New York Times have categorically stated that the Aisha Buhari mentioned in the court document in reference is not President Buhari's wife. Nonetheless, Mrs. Buhari has sued Governor Fayose concerning his allegations.

According to an official invitation letter to her, obtained by SaharaReporters, Mrs. Buhari was expected to have arrived in the United Stastes two days ago, but was held back by official delays in Nigeria.

Among others, she is expected during her visit to attend meetings at the George Mason University in Fairfax, Virginia. She will also be hosted by the United States Institute of Peace, in collaboration with Voice of America, and attend the 25th Anniversary celebration of Zumunta Association USA Inc.
