instead of diversifying the economy, Buhari is busy abusing his age by displaying hatred and bigotry.
The north is not a breeding ground for commerce. The north adds a featherweight to the Nigerian economy. The Nigerian economy is sustained by the south and the west. The north is a landlocked region. If you cessate the south and the west from the north, the north will look like chad in two weeks. All those infrastructures that you see in the north are built with cash generated from the south mostly. Yet, the ingratitude, the hatred, the bigotry, and tribal bias.

Buhari should have given priority to zones that have the capacity to enrich the economy and grow from there. The Ajaokuta Steel Mill should have been a start point. The Coal Mine in Enugu should have been a kickoff point. The refineries in Nigeria should have been expanded. The wharf in Warri and Port Harcourt should have been operational. Lagos is the hub of business in Nigeria and the hardest hit by this virus. Call your relatives in Lagos and ask how they survive. Call any micro-business in Lagos and ask how they cope in this emergency. Have you heard of any donation or relief going to the people in the south of the country? No!! They send soldiers to them. The average mentality of Northerners is "the southerners can die if they want". But the only operational zone in Nigeria right now is the south. On their oil blocks. That is the only place Buhari has allowed people to work. The oil and gas.

unfortunately, all the giving and sharing and preparation happens in the North. Lagos is overwhelmed already. They reside in the North but they send dead and contagious bodies to Lagos. Where is the hospital that Abba Kyari built? Buhari is friends with an extortionist caught on camera receiving a bribe. That man, Ganduje sits today to judge others and instill morality in a state.

Buhari rather built a dry port in the North. What for, exactly? Let it be known that the government has been borrowing money from other countries. selling the future of our children. These loans are in exchange for crude oil. So our crude is sold in advance. China will keep getting our crude until the loan is repaid. Variation and fluctuation are not implicit in this deal.

Sapele in Delta state used to produce humongous quantities of timbre and rubber, Osun produced timbre; Ogun, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Ekiti, Osun. Together these states along with Ondo are responsible for 60% of the cocoa production in Nigeria.
Benue produces yam but no focus on their health.

At this moment we shouldn't be dealing with ministers. We should be talking directly to the banks and to recipients. They have closed the ministries. So how did this minister disburse the cash to the beneficiaries? The government should stop this long train of corruption. A Nigerian sent a video of cash he received in Europe. The government did not send the video. Out of gratitude, the Nigerian made a video of himself. Why aren't Nigerians in Nigeria receiving this cash? They keep telling us that people received but who are the people?

Still, 150 people are dying in Kano of unknown diseases. The money you rob other Nigerians will be a curse on you in Kano.

Abba Kyari was still bleeding even at his funeral. he was still sharing hardcore diseases at his funeral. Someone who could have been cremated. his body was a contagion. When you rob poor people of their entitlements, you will bleed even at death.

my brother, I live abroad. Nigerians are wonder machines here. I can tell you, the past 3 companies that I have worked with, my bosses voice out that they do not want to let me go. They say, "if you want excellence and efficiency, get a Nigerian". Even Ghanaians and other African countries envy Nigerians due to our excellence and innovative mindsets. Nigerians are audacious and they fear no one when you give them operational powers.
But the same people you direct over here will be your bosses in Nigeria with military guards and luxury homes. The system in Nigeria is worse than a vagrant's poop.
gotnel:

God bless you. This our country is a major case study in institutional failure.
No sector of our entire system is working.
All our education in cambridge, Harvard, oxford and any other leading universities around the world are meaningless.
Outside Nigeria, you find Nigerians performing wonders.
But here in Nigeria, the bugs of lackadaisical attitude, pride and failure become the norm.
Where we suppose to look inward and provide solutions to our problems, we wait for the western world.
Our forefathers are better than our generation in the aspects of discovery of mental and intellectual property. This is even without them been educated in the western way.
We are too dependent on oyinbo's at the detriment of our own talent.
There is nothing stopping Nigeria to make available for the whole world, the cure for Corona virus. This is if we combine our heritage in herbal remedies with the western medicine and pharmaceutical education we have aquares around the world all these years.
Here we are waiting for a certain vaccine that we don't know the agenda of the people behind it.
Ordinary preparations for the evacuation of our stranded citizens is becoming a very herculean task to achieve.
Nothing is more showing that this country is being governed without the people as the primary reason for government than this season of lockdown.

Palliative support becomes so difficult to implement.
Testing for the virus infection is so slow that other smaller countries in Africa are ahead of Nigeria in numbers of people tested already.
Nothing is working in this country anymore.
People in government are just making money for themselves and their cronies.

You are absolutely right
seriously it pained me so much that tuface who claims to be a street breed would do such a silly thing.
10 million can feed a lot of mouths in this trying time. Just pay one bakery owner to produce bread of 10 million. People will survive at least until another person makes the move.
Davido is there, wizkid is there, don jazzy is there. all these guys earn cash in dollars. to many Nigerians, they are like family. they support them they fan them out. at least show love. others will follow.
It is sad.
hunger takes away fear and once fear is out of the equation, a man can do anything.
the earlier they step in, the better. At least to cushion the effect.
SirKomA:

The way celebrities are inactive in this trying time is so alarming. Almost everyone of them is mute and is not even ready to render a helping hands to the hungry. Most of the billions they gave to the government, I personally believe they did that to gain favor from the government when everything comes back to normal. For 2face to give 10 million naira to the government rather than giving out common face mask to the vulnerable is just something else. I mean how do you expect people that are hungry to buy face mask.
With the look of things, there will be more atrocities on a daily basis cos there is absolutely no crime that Hunger can't cause.

But the nation's treasury is bled now and they are not in power. So, who did it?
Buhari is taking loans from China and the world bank. Selling our economy and oil to China. Do you really know the terms of the loan he has been taken?
you are just a robot here to cause a kerfuffle and distort the truth from shining.
I know your type very well and I see clearer than you.
Buhari was taking loans when a barrel sold for over $70. Now, a barrel is $11. How will we ever repay the loan. They are selling our oil years ahead of your lifetime. That is what the loan is about. You are a fool and an ignorant slowpoke. Knowledge has eluded you.

You are the dumb one, sir
Those people have bills to pay.
They need to get back to work with plans. That is what they re saying.
People stayed home in Italy but the figures kept rising.
You will see how dumb you are by next month. Not everyone is as dumb as Nigeria. Work with good plans. People in the oil sector in Nigeria are still working. Workers in Aso rock are still on duty. why can't you work using the same safety method?
Even at the height of the Wuhan virus, people worked on hospitals, delivery people kept on working, food shop owners kept on working, cleanings kept on working, the security personnel kept on working. So, why can't you work with safe distancing as well?
For almost 3 weeks your country has shut down but look at the figures. Still rising. So, what is better for you? is it better to die of hunger and coronavirus at the same time?
In Nigeria people have bills and they have no connection to Aso rock money bags. They have to work.
I think the only issue is that you are in your momma's house eating free food and calling uncles for recharge cards that is why you sound this dumb.
Are you wiser than all those men there? Are you older than them for you to call them dumb? That is why I call you dumb

They will eventually run away from Nigeria after the coronavirus storm calms. The way they say these things as if things are better in Nigeria. What the government should be doing is stamping her foot on the ground against the indiscriminate treatment of Nigerians abroad. Not all about repatriation but building a face for Nigerians. The US consulate has issued a warning to all African-Americans not to go to China and cited the discrimination against blacks in China. The Nigerian consulate is docile and disposable. Anything Nigerian abroad is a magnet of cancer.

I keep saying it, at this point in time, men should be put to work. We need hospitals, we need infrastructures. People should be camped and given opportunities. If the operation in the Oil and Gas has is not halted, then you cannot shut down the economy of Nigeria when the majority of Nigerians are daily earners. Nigerian does not have more cases or deaths than the US but the US is opening, Italy is opening for business. Nigeria just shut everything down as if the economy is self-sustaining. People are poor. A country with a huge margin of disparity between the rich and the poor cannot shut down suddenly. There should be plans and arrangements. Buhari sits down in his Aso rock waiting for countries in the west to discover a vaccine to treat the people over which he presides. What happened to our virologist? How about our research centers? Is it not time to step up our game? The so-called treatment for this virus could be in the home of a herbalist right now. Why aren't we using our resources to the fullest? Chinese brought Tianshi and all those herbal drugs and called them supplements and Nigerians were stupidly buying it. This are the same herbs that you spit on when you go to your villages. Why is the government not using our herbs to full use? Why wait for westerners to breastfeed us? Those fools who saved their money in offshore accounts might just be disappointed soon.

Nigerians do not have hospitals. If you go to government hospitals, you will faint. I went there some years ago and pretended to be sick. I saw things that humans never saw on camera. The doctors show up at 10 am - 11 am and at noon to 2 pm they are out. patients rolling on the floor etc.
No X-ray machines, no blood testing machine (I mean I have this in my own house), when you have to go to do an X-ray, then go to a private specialist to translate the x-ray reading... As a health professional, I spit on the Nigerian health sector.

Speak up now for the government to create a stimulus plan because crime will be like it had never been. Some Nigerians with their servitude attitude. The crime rate will be absolutely unprecedented after this "stay home". People have bills to pay in May. Buhari should have asked Landlords to relax on rents for some months. The government should have consulted all registered businesses. The government should have enforced all top companies to pay their workers' salaries. Buhari should have consulted all state governments to reach out to the grassroots representatives to provide sustenance for daily earners.

Nothing stops the state government from liaising with bakeries to provide bread for people and have some people deliver it to homes. By this, the government can get concretized data.

I am very saddened that a Nigerian will give a fellow Nigerian indomie as relief in this period. Indomie?? What will that do to an adult male? I saw a family given two sachets of Indomie. wonders!!

Some people have a box of indomie for the entire occupants of a 6 flats building. This is sheer evil. Wickedness at its prime.

I see how repressive nairaland is. this is not a platform for free speech. they delete your comment at will. they only want to put out what they want you to know and dwell on. there is nothing different from this and the mainstream. I also notice that Buhari boys and some Muslims are paid to always be on the front page. They either come to denigrate Christians and their comments are not deleted. or they come to attack anyone speaking the truth about buhari. they always favor Buhari and make whatever he does seem okay and acceptable. the Muslims come to malign Christians while sandwiching Islam as a preferred alternative. the moderators will not claim to be unaware. to comment on the Muslim section you have to swear an oath while on the Christian section no one is made to do that. so are the moderators Muslims? is this is a Muslim forum? they should let us know so that the Christians can move on. how is this a forum when free speech is controlled by a set of men who claim to stand on higher moral ground and to have a higher IQ than you? It should have just been okay if they dropped the news and erase the comment section. Nigerians are not monolithic. there are diverse opinions and the mainstream cannot be heard at all times. this is the problem in this country.

Chris tried. so far so good, the Christians have turned out to be the most givers and the most non-biased givers in Nigeria.
Muslims are the richest. they have been in power for decades and controlled all the resources. Dangote is the wealthiest man in Africa. but Dangote is waiting to use the ventilator that Jack Ma donated to Nigeria. that is the same way he waited for Bill Gates to provide a Polio vaccine for his grandchildren and relations.

where are the billions stolen in the north? Ganduje was busy showing his muscles to the emir but he only managed to prepare burial grounds that he called isolation centers.
there is nothing like temporary isolation centers now. People should be put to work to build permanent hospitals in all states. do not keep grown men home. provide temporary shelters for them and let them work in camps to build. they are asking us to mourn Abba Kyari. For what? did he mourn my father? the old man should be thrown in the garbage. the thousands of Nigerians that committed suicide and died of poverty were denied basic welfare because he was busy looting. the money did not save him eventually. he and his family should rather be mourning the death of innocent Nigerians who die on daily bases as a result of their corrupt actions.

the 10 million that tuface donated just went down the toilet. tuface should have known better. acts like a lazy fool sometimes. Tonto Dike, I respect you. She did a million at the right time. Tuface, when you were selling your CD you went to people's homes and they bought them. Now, you are donating 10 Million and you gave it to the same crooks that embezzled our money in the first place. shame on you! what stopped tuface from purchasing the things he wanted to give and taking them to the streets himself? Tonto did not make a noise but we saw action. she did her best. Tuface where is the 10 millions that you promised your fans? they are hungry and fainting.

to Omotola and Genevieve and Funke Akindele, shame on all of you. Funke, Nigerians are hungry and you are holding a party. Funke, I remember when you started and the support you got from Nigerians on the streets. you cannot buy bread for your hungry fans. omotola you day show us yarsh since. give Nigerians food. they are hungry. your social media page has grown. they are mostly Nigerians supporting you. you cannot lend a voice. you said nothing on your page. omotola has done nothing to support the average Nigerian on the streets. Stella Damascus has voiced out her pains so many times. simple giving we no see.

when Christians share gifts, they give to both Muslims and traditionalists and Christians. but all the Muslims give only in the mosque. if you are not Muslim, you get nothing. is that truly a religion of love? yet they attack.
all the giving Dangote gave was only in the north. they want to make sure that southerners and easterners do not benefit from single giving.

even in this time of emergency, the evil in the hearts of all these people thrive.

he doesn't deserve this.
Some Nigerians are wicked oh. This boy did not fault the constitution of Nigeria.

women football players look like men.
in the bank women wear suit and women wear agbada.
why criminalize this young man for hustling in a legal way.
the only time I would have had a problem is if he had raped anyone in the family.
there are male maids in many people's homes. why is this one a problem? Is his dressing against the law?
see how them pull out fone to record the guy prick. Invasion of privacy for breaking no law.
never ever let yourself down to the mercy of your fellow man.

no work. many straight niccurs are turning gays. many women are turning prostitutes. all for money. times are hard. instead of addressing the issues that led this man to this act, they are mobbing him.

Kano is beautiful' is not by pictures of roads. Road is not the beauty of a state. What really goes on in Kano. Step down and you will see a bunch of people wearing dirty boubous. You will people will hole and tears in their heels. Look at the Sabon Gari market. Ask your grandmother and she will tell you that she knows the market. Since then until now the market is still as dirty as ever.
If you give Aba the population of Kano, you will produce more than China. Kano was the hub of business in Nigeria many years ago. They were merchants in outfits and all sorts of trades. Today, those merchants are politicians. Education is a stone-age idea for the people of Kano. The living quarters for the poor are sad to see.
The governor of Kano is a good friend of Buhari. The man was caught on camera receiving bribe but this same man is still in power and he had the guts to dethrone the emir of kano. This is a state that houses the cabal of Oligarchs. A state that breeds terrorists for Boko Haram. The airport in Kano is like the market in Onitsha. It looks so poor and lacks maintenance.
Kano is a very old state and a state that thrived in the past. All these billionaires do nothing for the humble people of Kano but push them to the masjid and farther away from getting the proper education.
Where are the industries in Kano? Where is the landmark of civilization in Kano? Why is there still high unemployment and poverty in Kano after decades of Northerner's hold in power?
Good thing that they constructed roads. They have about the best roads in the country. But these projects are from the previous dispensation. The current government did not build the roads in Kano.

silence is not golden in this case. word is powerful too. silence is only golden when it is needed. You cannot have a mute child and feel proud that he is mute. I wish muteness on everyone who upholds silence when words could have made the needed changes. The man has a right and he must exercise it. Fela said "animal won dash me human right".
Why should a mature man be silent when he has words to say?
You should be criticizing the Oligarchy, not the man for exercising his right. You are a part of the problem. always trying to subdue people and make them conform to your silly rules. Talk for your lives. Your silence has no bargaining power in the malls. Talk and negotiate. Your mouth is not a show room

This is turning into harassment and invasion oh.
People are hungry already. They promised to give them government grants and 20k and still, no honest man has gotten anything. They are building temporary isolation centers that look like cemetery and some fools are being grateful for it. Let them use those thieves that will soon begin to rob you to work. Nigeria has money. Nigeria is richer than many Arab countries. Let men work. Put them in camps and test them. If oil company workers can do it, let the construction companies do it. Buhari build hospitals and build the basic things that Nigerians lack. Going from house to house exposes those searchers to the virus itself. The reason the world cannot trust Nigeria is that we do not have a system to check or track people. Instead of tracking Lagos returnees only, also take this time to carry out a census since everyone is home and meet the requirements of the US and other civilized worlds. There is no reason why every Nigerian should not have a social Identity number.
To open a bank account they demand things that the ordinary Nigerians do not have. So establish these things for the common Nigerians and stop looting or funding looters.

Ghana with a population of 30 million has done more testing for coronavirus than Nigeria.

They are sharing Nigerian money in the north and still the northerners are tied down by their culture

Is the president above face mask? As a leader, he needs to lead by example. The idea of standing to take photographs is petty and ill in a situation like this. Photographs are usually taken during the meeting for the record. You men sit down and act your age. These men were full-blown adults when the British taught us class and decorum. What legacy are they passing down to the next generation? Is there no meeting room in Aso rock? The idea of sitting down in a place that looks like a living room to discuss serious matters show their lackadaisical attitude toward service. The meeting room serves a purpose. You cannot sit on a big couch during an epidemic.

People should wake up o because the crime rate will skyrocket after this lockdown. The government needs to start working well now oh. And those people who think those temporary isolation centers are a thing should reset their brains. At the end of the corona season, they will knock down those structures and sell those items. It means that your condition remains. Push for the government to build permanent hospitals and isolation centers. That way, you can benefit. Open your eyes. People should be working in the construction sector right now. They should do the same thing they do to those oil company workers. Test them for the virus, Isolate them in secluded accommodations during the incubation period, move them to the work accommodation and get them to work. I see no reason why grown men should be locked in when they do not have the virus. Send them out to build. If oil company workers can work, then use the same formula for other sectors that can be controlled like this.

One thought?? Why do Nigerians sound quarantine as quarantAYIN rather than quarantEEN undecided Even leaders in the government. And when did donation or food gift become palliatives undecided You cannot follow blind guides. People are on lockdown but they are not patients. Stop calling your donations palliatives. Give your palliatives to your sick relatives, not to able-bodied Nigerians who are in sound health and fit for work but under governmental restrictions. A simple word like donation or charity will do or you may look up synonyms for food gifts if you want to blow big grammar. Palliatives no work at all. That is an insult to the people who receive the donation from you.

Alright, thanks.
naptu2:

The word "palliative" is exactly the right word to use (depending on the intent of the user). Remember, a word can have several meanings and English is a living language. I recommend that you check the Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary.

https://www.oxfordlearnersdictionaries.com/definition/american_english/palliative

They could mean items that are meant to reduce the pain of the lock down, without actually removing the lock down. This is quite basic.

Furthermore, you can check the third definition in Merriam-Webster Dictionary. These are items that are meant to moderate the intensity of the suffering that is caused by the lock down.

https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/palliates

See also the Chambers Dictionary (the second screen shot below).

I will take the "infant" shade as a compliment. Nevertheless, palliative is not the right word to use. I am not here to denigrate you but to give a brother a 'hand up'. I am not trying to be a sage either. I am into this field and I can confirm that the word is utterly wrong. Next time, find a word or phrase out of the list below to use.

present, donation, offering, contribution, handout, presentation, bestowal, largesse, alms, charity, bonus, award, premium, bounty, boon, favour, bequest, grant, endowment, benediction, handout, aid, benefit, charity, subsidies, alms, dole, donations, food gifts, gift share, portion, modicum, quota, donation, parcel, welfare, almsgiving, pittance, philanthropy, dispensation, buroo, distribution, division, relief, subsistence, allotment, apportionment, trifle, mite, government benefit, public assistance, allowance, living relief assistance, social assistance
