I am not here to discourage anyone, I want you to know what you are signing up for.

TravelBeware Of Senseless Japa. by malali(op):
A LOT OF PEOPLE ARE SHOUTING AND PREACHING THE JAPA PHENOMENON

1-Average cost of rent $2500

2-Phone, electricity, gas, water $500

3-Food Cooking and not eating out 1 person $700

4-Healthcare/Dental, medications,(if not yours budget for your children) $500

5-Transportation (whether you own a car or public transport to work, Car inspections, car registration, fuel, sudden repairs,) $1000

6-Childcare (If you have young children) it can cost up to $1500. Sometimes its cheaper for one spouse to stay at home and tend the kids.

Approx. 10k is needed for 1 grown adult. Thats 15k gross salary. That amounts to $180k/year(before tax is removed)....Some USA doctors do not make this much e.g Pediatricians in university hospitals

These are basics, anyone JAPA-ING without a desirable degree in America e.g, Tech certifications, Nursing, Medical. Will need an American degree to make over 50k a year.
50K a year means 30k after taxes, social security, insurance and retirement. To be able to just live alone, you will need 2 jobs. American jobs are designed to be hectic enough for 1 person/ 1 job in 24hours. If you work 2 jobs a day......Its at the expense of your health/social relationships/family time etc...There is a cost !!!
Even the Tech, nurses, medical will have to pass exams, these exams and preparations could cost $20k with no guarantee of passing.

So the hard part is how can you survive with $40-50k/ year with a basic living cost requiring at least $180k/ year. If you go to school hear, the loans are crippling at 7-8% interests for government loans and even up to 20% for private loans.
Even if you work 2 jobs, which means you leave your house (8am-4pm) (4pm-12am)....This will be at the expense of your health, lifespan, social health. Its not really humanely possible.

Even if you come with a spouse, one of you has to work 2 jobs at the very least, if not both of you. If you work through winter months doing double shifts, you can actually go 4 months without seeing the sun, which results in a lot of mental health issues in Africans, because we were not built for that, and the awareness is not emphasized.

Dont get me wrong its hard in Nigeria, but dont forget, you are coming to a place where their ancestors use to come and kidnap people in Africa for free Labour in the USA as slaves. These mentality has only being finessed over time. However it still exists. Do not be fooled by the few successful JAPA stories. I guarantee you for every one successful JAPA, there are a thousand living from Hand to mouth, paying only bills and taxes around the clock.

I have attached snippets of a reddit column of Americans complaining about the cost of living. Mind you these people went to schools here, so they are better treated and paid in the Labour market. You being a JAPA will be systematically paid less than them most times.

TravelRe: 11 Reasons Why You Must Japa From Nigeria by malali:
1. For a bright future for you and your family, Japa is the only option you have. Future in Nigeria is looking bleak and cloudy at the moment, Japa now when you can.
Try to JAPA, maximum by 25 years of age, Relearning the whole system, is not as easy as you think. If not you will just be. a glorified slave paying taxes and watching people with means oppress you.

2. If you want to live a quality life, give sound education to your kids, have access to comprehensive health care and top-notch life security, Nigeria cannot offer you all these, you can only have access to all these when you Japa
Schools have levels, if your child can go to the top tier universities in Naija and do very well, He/She is still better than attending a community college here and saddled with huge loans only to end up working a minimum wage job. There are Americans working minimum wage jobs talkless of a Japa like you.

3. I am yet to see anybody that Japa from Nigeria and still remain poor. Poverty is only in Nigeria, once you leave Nigeria, you have bid farewell to Poverty for life. Confirm from all the people that have Japa, all of them are living in prosperity as i type this. Prosperity have levels, You buy a house on a loan, if you buy a $300k house now at 8% you will end up paying 1 million dollars by the time you finish paying. If you buy a $50k house in naija...you pay only $50k....So your prosperity abroad is actually paying the bank $700k in interests just to flex as a homeowner. Then when you are done paying after 30 years. You owe huge real estate taxes and home owners insurance. So much money you cant afford it in retirement. You will eventually be forced to sell the property.

4. Immediately you leave Nigeria, all life and spiritual problems are over, that's why you see that when many people japa from Nigeria, they don't go to church and mosque again, simply because they have no reason to. The Government in their new country of residence have provided everything they needed, so no need to disturb God again. Life problems and Spiritual problems are only in Nigeria, they can't be found elsewhere.
There were no spiritual problems from the beginning, all problems in Naija are man made.

5. Prosperity in Nigeria is by luck, not by hardwork, but elsewhere apart from Nigeria, if you are hardworking, you will surely reap the fruit of your hard work.
Not true, Prosperity is still hardwork and being smart, you have to learn to solve a problem, everybody else is ignoring. Nigerians are ready to wash toilet, drive taxis and wipe nyash in USA, but will never do it in Nigeria. They are busy looking for white collared jobs and government contracts

6. To Japa from Nigeria can be likened to going to paradise, As a Nigerian, Japa to us is our own paradise on earth, wouldn't you like to go to paradise?
This is not true, a lot of people suffer more abroad, dont let social media fool you. People work like slaves, they never enjoy the freedom back home.

7. Japa is what is Trending now, wouldn't you want to be a part of the new trend? Or you prefer to die inside trenches?
Before they came in ship, to badagry to capture slaves, now the slavery has been given a new name called "japa"..They use social media to entice Nigerians and then force them to slavery with jobs that pay $3000/ month meanwhile a decent 2 bedroom is atleast $2500/ month, Bills, food, phone, insurance, car, petrol, and other basic amenities, which you have to pay cost another $2000 per month. So if you salary is $2500 and your basic cost of living is $4500. where is the paradise ?? Unless you sleep on a bunk bed with a total stranger and pay $500 dollars a month in rent. Dont fall under the Japa pressure....Nothing dey here !!!

8. All your mates have all Japa, if you don't Japa like your mates too, Automatically you will be labelled a failure. Look around, how many of your school mates and childhood friends are still in Nigeria? All of them have all left and they are all enjoying themselves in their new country of residence.
Not true, If you dont have a plan, you will be worse when you get here. Make sure you come with a desired skill, Even Olosho doesnt sell here, because by the time you suffer to get your money, you will never give anyone for free.

9. Living anywhere else apart from Nigeria is better. Yes, you heard me right, When you are ready to Japa, ignore all those people saying "do your due diligence" doing due diligence is asking for too much. Anywhere you land yourself, even with your N500,000 savings, is a better place to live than Nigeria.
Not true, dont be deceived, if you have traveled abroad, you know this is not true, the bills here can kill you....if you lose your job for 2 months, you will spend all your life savings and be back to square 1, this is very common in immigrants communties, some people live for 15 years and still dont have $5000 total savings.

10. I don't think we still have up to 5 million people left in Nigeria, everybody don japa, do you want to be the only person left in Nigeria when the remaining people Japa?
There are Nigerians living as destitutes in America, dont be fooled.

11. When you Japa from Nigeria, you have Automatically add 30 years to your lifespan, mortality rate is high in Nigeria for obvious reasons, but elsewhere apart from Nigeria, life expectancy is very high.
Not true, Nigerians eat organic food, even the poor people, A lot of Americans eat processed GMO food, which is not good for your health, A lot of African Americans have diabetes and high blood pressure, a lot of them have no health insurance, because the jobs that dont give you health insurance pays 1 or 2 dollars more. Lack of exercise and sedentary lifestyle in the winter 4 months every year leads to a lot of bad health

[b]DO NOT JAPA BECAUSE PEOPLE ARE JAPA-ING.
JAPA ONLY IF YOU HAVE A SOLID PLAN.
PLAN-LESS JAPA CAN RESULT IN YOUR EARLY DEATH.
YES A FEW PEOPLE ARE SUCCESSFUL, BUT GUESS WHAT......A FEW PEOPLE ARE SUCCESSFUL IN NIGERIA AS WELL.
THERE IS A REASON THE TOP 100 RICHEST NIGERIANS DID NOT MAKE THEIR MONEY FROM JAPA.
IF JAPA MADE PEOPLE RICH AND SO COMFORTABLE, NAME A FEW NIGERIANS THAT MADE THEIR WEALTH FROM JAPA ??
JAPA IS WELL PACKAGED SLAVERY. EVEN THE SLAVE IS NOT AWARE, BUT THE SLAVE-MASTER KEEPS USING SOCIAL MEDIA AS BAIT.
ASK YOURSELF, WHY ARE THERE POOR AMERICANS, WHY ARE THERE HOMELESS AMERICANS.

ONE DOLLAR IS 1000 NAIRA, BUT DONT FORGET, THE CHEAPEST MCDONALD FOOD IS $13....YOU WILL HAVE TO EARN $21, PAY $7 TAX AND BE LEFT WITH $13 TO AFFORD A MEAL. AFTER PAYING TAX FROM YOUR SALARY, EVERYTHING YOU BUY IS ALSO TAXED.
IF YOU WANT TO LIVE AS A DECENT HUMAN BEING IN USA, YOU NEED $10000 AFTER TAX, THATS GROSS OF $15000 FOR A FAMILY OF 4. THAT IS ACHIEVABLE WITH 3 FULL-TIME JOBS. MEANING ONE OF THE COUPLE HAS TO WORK 2 JOBS. THIS SETS YOUR FAMILY UP FOR DIVORCE.
DAYCARE FOR 1 CHILD IS $30K DOLLARS, YOU WILL NEVER BREAK EVEN IN LESS THAN 20 YEARS....IF YOU WORK HARD EVERYDAY !!
TELL ME ONE PERSON WHO JAPA FOR 20 YEARS AND CAME BACK TO SET UP A VERY SUCCESSFUL BUSINESS ANYWHERE IN NIGERIA.
JAPA NA OYINBO FORMAT......ALL THAT YAHOO YAHOO MONEY YOUR BROTHERS HAVE CHOPPED, YOU WILL PAY IT BACK TO THEM IN TAXES !!

The looting in democracy is worse than that in military rule.

The countries that have practiced democracy successfully have zero tolerance for looting and misappropriation.

However now, its just a jamboree in Nigeria. Emefiele was arrested after Buhari left........was everybody blind, not to realize he was very inept ??

Not until a law is passed for every governor/minister or anyone with a significant budget allocation.

They should publish their total expenditure and allocation quarterly, send copies to senate, ICPC, EFCC, house of rep, and the general public and their constituencies that voted them.

Not until we have transparencies like these, we will never move forward from financial misappropriation from public officers.

Otilo beyen mehn..

Black women are in high demand for kidnappers in the western world. They use their bodies for sexual, psychological & scientific experiments.

And since black women are the first humans on planet earth from which men mutated from & the birther of all races of men, any experiment that works on her can work on all women of all races...

And since black men have been emasculated by this current system and cannot protect their women then other races can use her to enhance themselves economically, sexually, scientifically & genetically..

Can white women get kidnapped in any African country without Europe or America intervening?

Now you see

More kidnappings to come, no be today dem dey kidnap black women for west lol 😂..

As a matter of facts some cabals in the west kidnap black women for the sole purpose of rigorous sex & cannibalism.....They f*ck them to coma and then quarter they bodies for consumption

A lot of black women love the west cos of it's enticing systems, women-friendly laws & eye-catching structures but these are for the white women not for black women..so many black women are suffering from the illusion of inclusion.. you're not included but you trying hard to act & feel like you are ..and in doing so they use you against your own men lol ...

You see many black women in Europe & America who don't wanna associate with black men they wanna follow follow white guys everywhere giving they bodies to them cheaply...but play hard to get with black guys ..

Make them continuu... 😆

nairalanda1:
Actually, Abacha stole so much, we are still trying to locate his loot today, 25 years later. It was that bad. Its easy to blame the the dead, Tinubu had 2 private jets after just being governor of Lagos state, Alot of politicians have private jets as of today.......Abacha never had a private jet. I am no sympathizer of Abacha mind you.....But there are more thieves today than anytime before.

And the fact that the current political class is stealing does not mean I should clap my hands for Abacha stealing. He was a bad leader, he was even an oppressive leader, and his polices are part of the issue why we have problems today...including removal of subsidy.

The man not only kept subsidy, it was under him that the resultant loss led to the begining of the depreciation of our refineries. The problem with subsidy is that when you stop letting refineries run at a profit, or work for their profit, you invairably bring in sabotage, which was happening under his regime...because sabotage is a nice way to make extra money.

1.We have been removing fuel subsidy in phases for 40 years...which is why fuel does not cost 15 kobo as it did in 1981. At the end of the day, the problem remained..no profit, no money for upgrades, new refineries, no new investment in refineries for decades,

2.Yeah, we removed fertiliser subsides in 1993, and today we have at least several fertilizer manufacturers. Subsidising fertiliser is a nice way to kill off the industry. Companies need to make a profit to pay for a lot of things.

3. Subsidisng the petrol used in transport of food is good...but at the end, Nigerians will bastardise it.

4. Keeping subsidy was in the long run going to make us broke. The issue is, the cost of production keeps rising, and so long as it rises, so does the subsidy...and at the end we have to take money from other things to pay for it. To the point that the subsidy was going to totally eat our revenues, and then more than our revenue.

Iran has subsidy, and as a result their debt is worse than ours, and their subsidy costs eat their entire revenue, and then some.

Tinubu is begging for a coup......these policies will soon lead to civil unrest

Yeah, and it would be a good thing for me if there is a people's revolution that gets rid of the political class....I would for one welcome it. I'm tired of APC and PDP

But we cannot change the fact that things COST MONEY. I'll repeat that again...THINGS COST MONEY. And if we try to force things to be cheap...because we want the poor to breathe...we would be spending more and more of our monies on subsidy, which won't even cover the cost after some time...meaning we borrow more and borrow more.

Personally, I agree with you. The burden the poor are bearing is hard. But I have seen what happens in many other countries that keep on subsidies...at a point the cost of subsides overwhelms their budget....and they have nothing left, and then crisis results.

That's why as much as I want to shout at the APC government in anger over subsidy, I am biting my tongue and supporting subsidy removal...because I don't want to wake up one morning and find we have run out of money totally....and are about to be bondsmen and women to IMF.

Things cost money. I effing wish it was not true,....but things cost money. Whether it is growing selling or planting food, or refining petrol....things cost money. People want to be paid, even you.

Unless you want to be like North korea which subsidises everything, pays workers a very low salary, and suffers scarcity anyway...and has to be bailed out by the Chinese.(who do it because a unified Korea allied with the US, means US troops on their border. )
Things cost Things cost, we all know that. But you have to pay people livable wages. You cannot sell Fuel at #700 naira a litre 21 thousand for a 30 liter car which is #21000 naira and then pay some people #30000 a month and then have 80 % of the people unemployed. This is wickedness its not humane neither does it show compassion. I repeat this is absolutely the most idiotic policy ever. There has to be tested and trusted contingencies in place prior to making a move like that. You keep shouting things cost. A lot of people dont have jobs in Nigeria, These people need to eat. Tripling fuel cost will triple their poverty
PoliticsRe: Pictures Of President Tinubu Sleeping In Benin Republic. by malali: 7:00am On Aug 02, 2023
nairalanda1:
1.Abacha also stole billions, and did not diversify our economy, and food was still expensive then , by the by.

Nigeria has lost 10 times the billions Abacha stole since we returned to democracy in 1999..The post Abacha looting is even worse.

2.Also, subsidising food is a nice way to guarantee scarcity of food, and price hikes...and mass famine.

Essentially, you are asking food sellers to sell food at a loss, which means they cannot earn enough to pay the transporter of food, the wholesaler and by extension the farmer.

Subisdy in the matter of petrol is a big reason why we don't have refineries and why we are a net importer of fuel. You want the same thing to happen to food?

See, prices of food go up, because farmers, transporters of food, buyers and sellers of food HAVE TO MAKE A PROFIT...otherwise farmers won;t be able to pay for fertiliser, seeds, tools, even taxes and such like. Ditto everyone else across the food sale and supply chain.

Better stop asking for subsides for everything....in many ways, you are asking that the government robs other Nigerians to give you cheap food.

When i said subsidize food, i never meant selling for a loss, the cost of fertilizers, or petrol used to transport food should have been subsidized at the start and slowly phased out. These things are done in phases, you cannot just remove subsidy without back up plan...People are dying, Lagos is not the only state in Nigeria, there are states that cant feed themselves, and rely on these petrol subsidy to earn a living by doing different petrol dependent business, e.g taxi, shuttle, grinding machines, mills, all these have profit margin slashed to Zero, because their customers no longer have the earning power to purchase, you cannot increase the price of food by 300% without Increasing income.....its is a very idiotic policy.

Tinubu is begging for a coup......these policies will soon lead to civil unrest
PoliticsRe: Pictures Of President Tinubu Sleeping In Benin Republic. by malali:
This Tinubu's regime wont end well, he is already alienating the masses.

The removed subsidy from Petrol should have been transferred to food for at least 12 months.

The policy of removing oil subsidy with no ameliorating measure is the most idiotic policy ever made in Nigeria.

This mentioned palliative is also a rouse, the government cannot turn 300 million Nigeria's to beggars receiving alms.

The whole world is slowly coming back from Covid-19 and the government is making policies that will kill Nigerians.

Over 70% on Nigerians lived below the poverty line even before the subsidy was removed......You can only imagine the level of poverty and destitution in states with very low IGR

The government should subsidize movement of food and agricultural produce across the country, the tomatoes coming from the farm, should have subsidized petrol, the cows going to lagos should have subsidized petrol, you cannot overnight inflate the cost of food transportation.
This single policy was not well implemented, If care is not taken this is the beginning of the end of Tinubu's presidency.

He needs to subsidize food, Petrol cannot be expensive and food is also expensive all on the same salary without increments. Abacha was far better than this. FYI

Healthcare is one sector that cannot be deregulated and left at the whims of just anyone.

All hospitals should should undergo certification and reviews regularly........Things that can be done in a facility should tally with things they are qualified to do.

Every state should have a networked tertiary referral center.....referral should start prior to transfer to tertiary facility.

All hospitals should be mandated to have a functional ambulance 24/7,

This can only be financed effectively by an insurance system. Healthcare is expensive even for 1st world countries.........

He runs the biggest foundation in Africa. You guys are weird.
It is evident that the level of philanthropic contributions made by Dangote in proportion to his assets may be perceived as modest.
When genuine impact is felt by the people, the need to rely on the mention of a "foundation" becomes unnecessary.

Comparatively, the influence of MKO Abiola was widely experienced throughout Nigeria without the establishment of a foundation.
I understand and respect your stance but Dangote should consider expanding his philanthropic endeavors.

There is a majority belief that his current efforts may not fully fulfill his philanthropic responsibilities, irrespective of various perspectives on the matter.
BusinessRe: Forbes Index: Dangote Africa’s Richest For 12th Consecutive Year by malali:
May God bless MKO Abiola. I was a young boy in a small primary school located in a remote part of Nigeria. Our school needed funds for various projects.

Then we heard that MKO Abiola had generously donated 10 million Naira (several decades ago).

My issue with Dangote is that he should do more. Instead of just giving money, he should select five individuals from each state every five years and provide them with training in the business world.

Being great doesn't mean being friends with all the presidents. It means having a lot of money and being able to connect with ordinary people easily, even by the roadside.

Dangote should establish a team dedicated to humanitarian and philanthropic assistance.Despite his foundation. A lot of people are "talking" ............

But he should stop overwhelming us with his billions of dollars. When he passes away, all that will remain are white cloth and sand covering him. He should be generous now and teach people how to become self-sufficient instead of just giving them things.
