Goodmorning House. My visa was granted this morning . 7.30am Abuja. And that of my son's F2.I was interviewed by the lady in window 7. She had denied everybody that went to her before I was granted. So it went like this.... VO: Passports and and I-20( she looks at her system then turns to me) VO: Why did you stay 4 months in your last visit? Me :I went to give birth to my 2nd child. VO: did you inform immigration about your plans? (gave me a stern look) Me: Yes I did. I landed at Chicago and told them specifically what I was there to do. ( plus my tummy was huge. No amount of jacket for hide am). VO: Can I see he's birth certificate?(gave her) VO: but it's written Elpaso, why did you say Chicago? Me: you asked about immigration. Not place of birth. Chicago was my Poe . Vo: Can I see your receipts? Gave her. Na so she see one discount talk say na charity o. Hmmm. I defended it with everything within me. Told her i don't know about charity, but i was told self pay patients get an authomatic discount.Regardless of whether you have the full amount. (She seemed satisfied). VO: so which schools did you apply to? Me: Brandeis university, Temple ,TAMU and UTA VO: (she seemed impressed with the schools) and you got into all these schools? Me: No. Got a rejection from TAMU VO : So why UTA Me: Amongst the schools I got admitted to,UTA is the most affordable. It met my budget. Additionally, the Public Administration program in UTA has my area of interest as a specialization, which is Economic Development and Sustainable Management. VO: What will you do after your Program? VO : I will come back to work in the public sector, especially the department of public development mgt within the CBN or the Ministry of women affairs and Social Development. VO: (gives me an awkward look) So is that were you work now? ME: No. I work with a commercial Bank. But my dream is to work with the CBN. VO: who is paying? ME: MY HUSBAND. He's a legal practitioner, and a .......with the .........And also the MD of .......... VO: So who looks after the kids while your in school, since your husband will be here? ME: MY mother inlaw has a visa, my mum will be coming to get hers. So they will take turns to come and spend time with us. VO: (nods her head in agreement) Oh that's a very good plan. VO: do you have family in Arlignton? ME: No but I have in Elpaso. VO: Ok I will be granting your visas. At that point I wasn't even listening to other things she kept saying. Only heard something about keep your hospital receipts for immigration. The truth is this, I'm really bold when I talk. But, I wasn't at my best.Articulate And confident, yes! But I could hear the nervousness in my voice. Plus my 3 year old son kept distracting me. I used the times she kept typing to put myself together and gather momentum. I posted this transcript basically for all the mamas planning to go study abroad. I was almost discouraged by some people that told me it would be difficult for me to get it, because I will need to show huge sums, and my hubby won't be regarded as a strong tie in Nigeria. I wasn't even asked to show statements, I didn't do well in my GRE so I was glad she didn't ask. But my TOEFL was fine. Guys, preparation is key. Not craming. Just let it flow naturally. Goodluck to those waiting for their interviews. |
Bussy123:Going to Arlington. |
Bussy123:I am going to UT Arlignton. |
Walspring:Electrical Engineering. He would do a pre masters, take leveling courses, after which he would go for the main degree. And they still gave him visa. Though he had to take some courses even after getting there, before he was allowed to register for classes. |
Holudarey01:Sir I did not conclude. I had done my research. usnews.com is free for all! |
dicapino:No College Station. Don't know about Kingsville. But they have more of Nigerians than College Station. |
Holudarey01:Lol. No disagree o. I have been to the both physically. I have family members living in both cities, and so I got to know. If you even see the structure of the schools, UTEP can't be compared with UTA. UTEP they make it easy because of the Latinos in elpaso. People from Mexico cross the border to attend school. Though they population is the school is high. But teust me, admission ain't that xompetive. I know someone that was admitted with an OND. |
Christian129:Ok. Most schools in Texas will ask you for TOEFL. That's the Texas school system. But for TAMU they waived TOEFL because I was speaking to them almost everyday...lol. So they concluded my English was perfect. Infact they said they didnt need it. Na my GRE finish me. I plan to transfer later to TAMU if it's possible. |
Christian129:UTEP is ok. Though UTA is of a better standard. Admission rate is 99%. So they always admit. Tution is about 18,000$. But I will try TAMU if I were you. You authomatically qualify to pay instate tuition which is 7000$ and it's well ranked. But I'm terms of cost of living, Elpaso is very affordable. |
borie4u:My score was lower than 301.Trust me. But my GPA was good. And I made sure my SOP n LOR we're really good. Plus I have about 6 years work experience. So that made up I guess. But that is not to say you should not try to make up to a higher GRE. |
Christian129:Hi. I got admitted to UTA, MPA too. I got a conditional admit though, because of my GRE. So take a clue from me, study hard for your GRE. 300-310 and your in! You will even be qualified to apply for GA/TA. It's a nice dept from what I have heard. I particularly like the Graduate advisor, she has helped me alot. You can also try Texas A &M TAMU. They have one of the best MPA and tuition is very affordable. But tou have ro score high in tour GRE. I applied but wasnt admitted. E pain me sha. Lol .Goodluck. (Modify) (Quote) (Report) (Share |

DeeTus:Ok. Noted. Honestly, I am not going to be there permanently. I actually plan on returning. I hope they are able to deduce that. Thanks alot. |
slystanley:Oh that's good to know. Have you gotten your visa ? |
Pls is there anyone going for visa interview with an f2 dependent visa? I have 2kids, one is a citizen and the 2nd is not. So the I-20 will be going with me for the interview. Pls is it advisable to also go with my other son that is a citizen, or leave him behind since I will still indicate him while filling my ds form. What are the chances of getting the visa. Pls house, I will really appreciate your inputs. |
Some VO will ask while some won't ask but some schools will write it on the I20 if its conditional admission.. I haven't gotten my I-20, so can't say if it's written or not. Hoping it's not. I have an f2 going with me, so I am trying to reduce any distraction. |
Holudarey01:Lol. A reach to laugh. Thanks alot. |
Is anybody studying Masters in Public Administration here pls? |
Holudarey01:Yes thank you. I changed from Mass Communication to MPA because I don't even have a single experience in my major. I have done more of NGO And banking. So going for a masters in communication won't cut it for me. Besides, I don't even want to be in that industry. Do you think it's an ok reason to give? |
sanramon:Lol. Lady not man. Hope to see you too. Pls will like to get your contact. What course are you studying? |
fizzile:University of Texas at Arlington. |
Conditional admission ![]() Are you changing discipline or you didn't meet up with some UG courses?[/quote I am going for MPA. Public admin. But I have a bachelor's degree in Mass Communication. They said I didn't meet their GRE passmark but I was very close. I have to maintain a 3.0 GPA in the 1st 2 semesters. Pls how will I explain to the VO why my admission is conditional? |
Hello house. I just found out that my admission is a probatory admission. Please will the VO frown at this? |
biikeys:Thank you so much. Please I tried to send you a pm. Pls try and reply my email. I need to get some information about UTA. |
Goodmorning house. Pls who attends UTA? I need to know how much a 2bedroom off campus housing cost. |
Mekurexx:Ok. Thanks alot. |
