Hi everyone. It's been a while! I remember how my journey started in 2015. This forum was my training ground. Till date when anyone wants information from me on how to pursue their academic dreams in the US, I refer them back to this forum. All you need is patience. Congrats to everyone who got their Visas and good luck to those still in the process.
Between, any Nairalanders in Maryland/Washington, DC? I just moved from Texas and looking to make new friends! |

Your responses were too broad and vague. It lacked depth. However, I see that the VO kept cutting you off and wouldn't let you finish your statement. My guess is, based on your online visa application, she may have seen some discrepancies and wasn't just convinced. I always tell people to fill those forms really well. Also, when you're giving you responses, kindly do away with "It is because". Just go straight to the point. And telling the VO that the US education system is the best is so cliche. Trust me, they know those are rehearsed responses. Your "Why did you choose this school response", Try as much to start with a unique answer. For example, This course will give me the necessary skills to plan and coordinate patient services. I have a keen mind and a gift for organization and would like to apply blah blah in the service of humanity. Your response about wanting to save people's lives is a faux. You are not the caregiver. Just my thoughts. I may be wrong. Good luck on your next interview. Kaffyyet: Good morning house, please I'm new here, although I have been reading some posts on this forum. I was denied an f1 visa last week. Below is my transcript, kindly help me with corrections. I am planning to go again V. O - why do you want to study in the USA Me - it is because US system of education is the best across the globe and it has a high influence ...... V. O- cut me off, why do you choose this school? Me - it is because I would be able to graduate in as little as 2.5 years because of their accelerated education format V. O- how many schools do you applied to Me- 2 V. O - name them? Me- ecpi university and university of Houston V. O - do you write any test Me- no,it was waived by the school V. O- why do you choose this course Me - I have the passion to save people's live, to assist people to live a better live......... V. O - cuts me off , What will you specialize in Me- health care administration and management V. O - what will you specialize in..... He asked again Me - health care administrator V. O - are you married Me - yes V. O - do you have kids Me - yes V. O- how many Me - 2 V. O - who will be paying Me- my husband V. O - can I have his bank statement Me- sure.... as I passed it V. O - thank you for applying but you are not qualified this time
I also want to ask a question on the ds-160 form which says " your intended period of stay in the USA " should I still answer it by saying 2 years knowing fully well that my course will take me up to 2.5 years. As they say they only issue visa for 2 years. Please I need your opinion on this. Thanks |

Christian129: I'm really sorry for dropping this transcript very late. i have always dreamt of dropping a really long and juicy transcript, but i have noticed how impatient i get when reading lengthy transcripts therefore; i'd make this as laconic as possible. lets cut to the chase, here is the conversation between Christian and the cute V.O:
V.O: Good Morning. Pass me your passport and your sevis ID Me: Here(i dey try arrange the thing with confidence, but the VO come say "don't worry, just pass it " V.O: How did you find this school? Me: (i dey happy because of my rehearsed lines) i first heard about this school through my erstwhile lecturer and mentor, Prof Idowu. i then went further to check out the school through NASPPA research journal, and further streamlined my search using my research interest. V.O: what would this degree do for you? Me: It would give me the necessary skills needed to take up a lecturing job at the University of Ibadan, where I earned my B.Sc. I would also be able to consult for both the Federal and state government through the Nigerian Institute of Social and Economic Research (NISER). V.O: who is sponsoring you? Me: My dad V.O: what does he do? Me: He is a successful publisher and the CEO of Christain plc with 4 locations both in Lagos and Ibadan. he also deals in automobiles.
V.O: Brings out white paper... adebimpe and Professor Charles don give me and Valentine the virtual White paper so e no even strange , but i confirm wetin you guys dey always talk; i think i went deaf at that point. i just collected my paper and zoomed off, smiling.
i wont mention names any more, i'd just thank everyone at this point. i still remember my first post like it was yesterday. i remember Malory84 answering some of my first ever questions , as dumb as they were then. i love all of you mehn. i hope to hook up with some of you soon especially Bobority . the babe fine meeeeeehhhnnnn TO the ones going for interview soon, i say be VERYYYYYYYY confident. notice my stress. even if you are yearning dust, yearn am with confidence. stare back confidently at the VOs. they are humans like you. Finally and most importantly, PRAY like your life depends on it because in the end, it all boils down to favour and grace. A lot of people were denied mehn. infact, in my row, i was the only first timer. dem don deny almost those guys. i wish i could type more, but i would drop more hint later on sha.
Big congrats to you. Public Administration is a wonderful course. People think its not lucrative. Lol (I Laugh at them in french). My advice to you; you wont see alot of international students. You might be the only one. 90% whites. But thats fine. They can be very nice and approachable. Your professors will know you by name. Which will help you later. Especially if you always participate in discussing the readings.Class sizes are usually very small. Your course mates would be mostly matured peeps. So lectures are more like conversations. Try and chip in some lines to the convos. But it means studying your readings.(Those are the hardest i tell you. Its a whole lot).Sometimes they merge with PHD students. So it gets really intense. But the good thing is you can take advantage of it. Most of them work in very wonderful places. So just be nice and network well. I already have two people from my class ready to help me with internship in their departments. Just get along nicely, but don't force it. Goodluck! |

Hello @Abujaniv.
I recently got admitted to UT Arlignton. I got my visa last 2 weeks , with that of my son's F2. However, in the light of some recent happenings,I am thinking of defering my admission to either spring 2017 or Fall 2017. Pls what implication will this have on my visa? Will I get a new I 20 when I am ready to go and apply for a fresh visa? Or can I still use the F1 visa. Secondly, what is the possibilities of apply for a B1/B2 visa, while still having the stamped F1 visa even though I defered my admission. This is because my sister is getting married this Christmas in the US and I will like to attend. |
