johnydon22: Hey bro am sure you just asked this question just like that... it is a common knowledge that every god(s) claim to be supreme and universal according to the various religion practising it... not all religion have a canonical book like Christianity, judaism and islam... Zeus is said to be the creator of humanity by the ancient greece and so is jupiter by romans, yahweh by jews, dagon by ancient philistians and allah by muslims...and it goes on and on... according to the canaanite pantheon EL is the supreme god and the husband of asherah and calling this two gods together will give you the plural ELohim... some ancient canaanite manuscript says el is the father of 70gods including yahweh while some ancient isrealite texts recognize yahweh as the god el and consort of asherah. science will support there claimed if it true, there are many scientific claimed the bible made that science did not discover until 100years later, this is things ONLY GOD COULD HAVE KNOWN read here https://www.nairaland.com/1305164/things-only-god-could-knownIf this religious people present there case the way bible present it own, everyone would have known the truth. |

jdilight: My point is all things were made by God. Evil, good, throne which can not be touched, dominion, ppprincipality, powers can not be touched but were created by God.
They all have their purpose.
Do you know why l stop writing here? It is only God that can draw man to himself. Logic cannot do it. Gods ways are not our ways, everything has its purpose in God I see your points, and am happy you are not an atheists. Read the thread again, I believe all what you need to know is in there. Thank you for your contribution. |

PastorAIO: Outside of a system such as, say, Mathematics, there cannot be definitive proof of anything.
By proof in this case I mean something that is demonstrable. A proof is demonstrated to someone else. You prove it to someone else.
Let me answer your question with a few questions and I hope you'll understand when you contemplate the question.
Do you believe that you have Consciousness? Do you have definitive proof of your Consciousness? If not, then what is the basis of your belief in your consciousness. How rational is it to believe that you have consciousness?
Actually, you know what... just in case you don't get and it becomes a long thing... I'll cut to the chase. The experience of Consciousness is totally Subjective. It cannot be demonstrated to another person, it cannot be proved, YET IT IS THE MOST CERTAIN THING THAT WE KNOW.
ergo... there is no connection between certainty of knowledge and proof.
Wake up!! I wasn't responding to a question. You said the bible doesn't contradict itself, and then I asked the question.
The question still stands. What time did Jesus Die? Did he die in the 3rd hour or did he die in the 6th hour?
In case you still don't get the point, 2 different gospels tell us different times. one says the 3rd hour and the other says the 6th hour. ergo... the bible contradicts itself. It is so pathetic that I have to do your thinking for you. all you had to do is take 10 seconds to consider the question and you would have got the answer. Or maybe not... you didn't even know where you were... you thought I was answering a question with a question. Did you know that there exists today nearly 25,000 hand-written copies of portions of the New Testament? As historians have compared these manuscripts, they have concluded that the New Testament we have today is at least 99.5% accurate to the original. No change. (The .5% differences refer to spelling, but no change in meaning.) all you have to do is to comperd the bible used 300 A.D and present day bible. |

johnydon22: FAITH: is a strong conviction, feeling or belief that something is true without having evidence of it... So according to the definition of faith as given by the dictionary, i think their is need for you to re-evaluate what you just posted. When it comes to matters of faith, it is purely based on belief cus their is no evidence for it... If for example you get to see God and perceive his existence in ur conscious self then you will no longer believe (have faith) that he exist but you will KNOW he exist...But as you said it is either their is God or not...which means you conviction is based purely on faith and their is nothing like evidential faith...#BeGoodBro yes that is what faith is, but the bible advice us to be certain of our belief.God wants us to know what we believe and why we believe it. We’re not called to numbly trust everything that might be taught in our world today, even if some Christian teacher is the source! We’re expected to be critical, skeptical and thoughtful: Do not quench the Spirit; do not despise prophetic utterances. But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good…( 1 Thessalonians 5:19-21) Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God; because many false prophets have gone out into the world. ( 1 John 4:1) And after we ask soo many question,God want us to be certain of our faith; Let each man be fully convinced in his own mind. ( Romans 14:5). Infacte,No other "holy" book tells its readers to actually put what it says to the test. |

davien: Your presupposition does not express the entirety of all possible events.... for example 1."gods" could exist 2."goddesses" could exist 3."a god/goddess" could exist 4.In the event that anyone exists it could be deistic 5.It could be a "personal god" 6.It could be an "anthropomorphic god" 7.It could be an alien life-form etc You just grabbed number 3 and 5 and applied a circular argument that either 3 is true or not...then moved on to say "jesus" is number 5...that sir is dishonest. And you haven't still answered my question...why can the devil have definitive proof of "god" and be free to reject "god" while we get faith alone?....why can't we have definitive proof? yes god could exist. But where are the claimed of this gods/godes? The way the bible teaches about God creative power, only a supreme God could have such. |

davien: Good....so if one can have definite proof of "god" and still be free to reject "god" like the devil(as you mentioned) then why can't we have definitive proof of "god" but have to rely on faith? is the devil more worthy to "god" that it requires evidence for "god" and still be free to reject "god"? first, you should know the definition of faith and know how Christianity teaches it. I made a coment about faith when I am chatting with pleatton, "Skepticism is important to the Christian faith; skepticism causes us to examine what we believe and search for the evidence that confirms our beliefs. Christians Are Called to be Convinced of What They Believe; Let each man be fully convinced in his own mind. ( Romans 14:5) Christians can be "case makers" precisely because the Christian faith is an evidential faith. When we, as Christians, argue for the truth of the Christian Worldview, we are not sharing an opinion. There either is a God, or there is not. Jesus is that God, or He is not. Salvation comes through Christ alone (as Jesus Himself maintained), or it does not. This is not a matter of opinion, personal preference or wishful thinking. The Christian faith is grounded in evidence that can be assessed and evaluated. The Christian faith is an evidential faith." Thank you. |
Christianity Etc › Re: The Question Most Christians Fail All The Time by malvisguy212: 4:30pm On Jan 11, 2015 |
PastorAIO: The answer is yes.
You could as well ask: Can someone have evidence of internal contradictions within the bible and still believe that the bible is inerrant? We see the answer to that question here all the time. The answer is Yes.
The next question might be: How is that possible?
Well, I think that when something doesn't suit a person's pre-conceived beliefs that person will likely contort everything around it so as to dismiss it because it is the preconceived belief that matters most. There is nothing that cannot be questioned. No Authority. Not even the Authority of the senses. Seeing is not necessarily Believing. Especially when we know that hallucinations can happen and are even common.
Since an Authority is something that is not questioned and any Authority can be questioned, even the authority of the senses, It follows that the op's question is unrealistic. There can be no such thing as 'definitive proof'. the bible never contradicts it's self. |
Christianity Etc › Re: The Question Most Christians Fail All The Time by malvisguy212: 4:24pm On Jan 11, 2015 |
plaetton: liar. From which bible are you reading from? Eve never rebelled against god. If we are to take the bible literally, then it is clear that she was simply naively misled into eating a fruit she was not supposed to eat. How does that translate into a rebellion against god.
There is no child that has not, at one time or another, been misled into disobeying his or her father. Good fathers don't disown their naive children on account of one small act of disobedience.
You are an expert at twisting the bible. I believe you are tired, that why you dints read my coment well. I never said eve rebels against God, I say "satan urged rebellions against God". God never disown his creation,God only punished them the way a father will punish his son if they did wrong. |

davien: The question is in two phases....can one have definitive proof of "god"?...be free to reject "god"? You've answered the second, can you answer the first? The question should scope how well you know the bible and reality yes. One can have definitive proof of God and still reject Him, that is exactly the trick satan use on eve, the woman know God is the creator but satan urged rebellion against God. Satan say to her, you will not die but you will be like God, that is exactly how atheists fell. The fell as god. |
